PINEHURST - Sara Jane Cottle Joyner, 53, of 1600 Morganton Road R-4, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pinelawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating.

She was a native of Raleigh, a graduate of St. Mary's High School and of Salem College, a volunteer for Brenner Children's Hospital and a member of the Junior League of Winston-Salem, the Little Greens Garden Club, the N.C. Museum of History Associates, the Wake Forest University Club and Centenary United Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, George William Joyner Jr.; son, George William Joyner III of Charlotte; daughter, Sara Peyton Cottle Joyner of Raleigh; mother, Mrs. Oran J. Cottle of Raleigh; sister, Sally Cottle Arnold of Raleigh.

Memorials may made to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem.

RANDLEMAN - Glenn Eason Tyson, 66, of 104 Presnell St., died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh Funeral Home Randleman.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Buddy Smith officiating.

He was a native of Anson County.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Jackson Tyson of Randleman; daughter, Gail T. Gray of Charlotte; sons, Randall Glenn Tyson of Stokesdale, J. Kenneth Tyson of Polkton; brothers, Charles B. Tyson of Polkton, Albert E. "Smokey" Tyson Jr. of Wadesboro; sisters, Mary Luther, Dorothy Fitton, both of Norwood, Nancy McMillan of Manning, S.C., Betty Funderburk of Wadesboro, Janie Randall of Polkton; nine grandchildren.

Mattie S. Culbreth

TRINITY - Mattie Lee Smitherman Culbreth, 62, of 5515 Rockford Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Pell Care Nursing Home, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Miller Carter and the Rev. Johnny Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.

She was a native of West End, an usher and a communion steward at her church and a member of United Methodist Women.

Surviving are daughters, Deborah Barber, Linda Hemphill, Kimberly Culbreth, all of High Point, Sandra Wheeler of Trinity, Evangelist Donna Canty of Thomasville; brother, Jesse Smitherman of High Point; sister, Lula Mae Keeton of the home; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, 7-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Velna C. Cheek

GREENSBORO - Velna Lillian Cox Cheek, 85, of 2805 Dellwood Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 22,1998, at Moses Cone Extended Care.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired self-employed seamstress and a member of the Craft Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving are husband, Troy V. Cheek of the home; daughter, Judy Montgomery of Greensboro; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

Lee R. Lomax Sr.

DENTON - Lee Roy Lomax Sr., 73, of 241 Sula Smith Road, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Chris Smith and the Rev. Daniel Downing officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Denton High School and a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Dewey Culp Lomax of the home; sons, Lee Roy Lomax Jr., William Eric Lomax, both of Denton, David Ray Lomax Sr. of Thomasville; sister, Carrie L. Cook of Denton; one grandchild; one stepgrandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Eva W. Truell

LEXINGTON - Eva Mae White Truell, 69, of Broadview Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1998, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, with the Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

She was a native of Forsyth County, the widow of Archie W. Truell, a homemaker and a member of North Lexington Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Jimmy Truell of the home; brother, Bill White of Asheboro; one grandson; one stepgranddaughter.

Franklin D. Saunders

TROY - Franklin Dee Saunders, 61, of 1100 Pekin Road, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McCallum Cemetery, Candor.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are wife, Linda Saunders of the home; sons, William Arnold Saunders, Oliver Wayne Saunders, both of Candor, Gary Franklin Saunders of Biscoe, Jay Dee Saunders of Troy; step-son, Durwood Jay Criscoe of Troy; brothers, W.J. Saunders of Eagle Springs, Bobby E. Saunders of Bayminette, Ala.; sisters, Carleen Hicks of Biscoe, Allie Key of Candor; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

GOLDSTON - Doris Maxine Binkley Caudle, 72, of 411 S. Church St., died Thursday, Oct. 22,1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bear Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Hicks and the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a member of Goldston Baptist Church and of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are son, Jack Caudle of Goldston; sisters, Lillian B. Vest of Bonlee, Melrose B. Fields of Bear Creek; two granddaughters.

SOUTHERN PINES - Thomas Sumner Craven, 75, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at his home.

Surviving are wife, Betty Ridge Craven; sons William E. Craven of Southern Pines, Thomas F. Craven of Raleigh; sisters, Margaret Craven, Etta Lee Trexler, both of Asheboro, Marie C. Waynick of Greensboro; four grandchildren.

MARSHVILLE - Frank Dewitt Lee, 88, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Union Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Son Funeral Home, Marshville, with the Rev. Joe Sutterlin officiating. Burial will be in Marshville City Cemetery.

He was a native of Union County and a retired self-employed farmer.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Mills Lee; sons, Ralph Lee of Nashville, Charles Lee of Asheboro, Wilson Lee of Marshville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

James T. Holyfield Sr.

PLYMOUTH - James Taylor Holyfield Sr., 83, of Plumblee Nursing Center, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County, the widower of Bertha Leona Evans Holyfield and Elizabeth Davenport Holyfield, was employed with Sam Mordecai and J.D. Parker Farms in the Plymouth area and a member of Plymouth Church of Christ.

Surviving are sons, James T. Holyfield Jr. of Roper, Paul E. Holyfield of Plymouth, Franklin E. Holyfield of Biscoe; stepson, C. J. Davenport of Roper; daughters, Sally Respess, Ruby Jackson, both of Plymouth, Lisa Green of Fayetteville; stepdaughters, Valerie Hassell of Plymouth, Sandra Davenport of Roper; two sisters; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Horner-Walker Funeral Home, Plymouth, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Ira R. Cox, a homemaker and a cosmetologist.

Surviving are sisters, Clara Neal, Margaret Wright, both of Asheboro.

Lois Bolen Moser, 75, of 233 Worth St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating.

She was the widow of Thaddeus T. Moser, a retired registered nurse, a graduate of Mt. Airy Hospital Nursing School, a volunteer with the local chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara M. Gallimore of Asheboro; sons, Dean B. Moser of Pittsboro, Marcus C. Moser of Greensboro; brothers, Dale Bolen of Fancy Gap, Va., Joe Bolen of Pickens, S.C.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the home Wednesday evening.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Lowell Allen Henson and retired from Jockey International.

Surviving are sons, Johnny Henson of Asheboro, Bobby Henson of Franklinville; daughters, Cynthia Henson, Brenda Agner, both of Asheboro; mother, Ruby Kivett Kimrey of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Bobby Henson, 647 Andrew Hunter Road, Franklinville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Elise Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dawes Graybeal and the Rev. James McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Robbins, town clerk for the Town of Robbins for 20 years and was the dispatcher for the Robbins Police Department.

Surviving are daughter, Theresa M. Dunlap of Seagrove; son, Jim McDermott of Robbins; sister, Marsha B. Garner of Highfalls; five grandchildren.
