Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. David C. Noyes officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Whitley Construction Co.

Surviving are wife, Lena Gordon Kearns of the home; daughters, Brenda Brigman, Linda Richardson, both of Asheboro; son, Charles Kearns of Asheboro; sister, Edna Kearns Coltrane of Asheboro; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Marvin Eugene Williams, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Stanly Manor Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wadeville Baptist Church, with the Rev. C. Gary Long and the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired deputy sheriff and a former security guard for McRae Industries of Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are wife, Martha Cleo Petrea Williams of the home; daughter, Faye W. Kearns of Mt. Gilead; stepson, Gerald Stallings of Mt. Pleasants; stepdaughter Barbara Ann Lambert of Mt. Pleasants; brothers, Lock Williams, Lloyd William, both of Mt. Gilead; sister, Lois Dennis of Albemarle; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

J. Clyde Sides

ALBEMARLE - J. Clyde Sides, 71, of 718 Love St., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, with the Rev. Wyman Bolin officiating. Burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory.

He was a native of Stanly County, the widower of Charlotte Colleen Barker Sides, a member of North Albemarle Baptist Church, a retired service station manager with 40 years of service for Service Distributing Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are sons, Clyde Edwin Sides of Albemarle, Timothy Sides of Oakboro; daughters, Janice S. Greene, Debbie S. Allen, both of Albemarle; sisters, Ruby S. Osteen, Gladys Sides, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday and other times at the home.

LEXINGTON - Sid Edward Harris, 66, of 3095 Old N.C. 109, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Silver Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Little officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, retired employee of Brayton International, High Point, and attended Silver Valley Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Madglene Cross Harris of the home; son, Danny Harris of Lexington; sister, Louise Patterson of Lexington; one grandchild.

CARTHAGE - Roland M. Boyte, 66, of 115 Wave Road, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Surviving are wife, Faye Miller Boyte; daughter, Lynn Gould of Gouverneur, N.Y.; son, Kenneth Boyte of Harrisburg; stepdaughters, Diana Paschal of Carthage, Edna Vredenberg of Pinehurst; stepson, James B. Goins of Carthage; sister, Carolyn Lamm of Sanford; brothers, C.G. Boyte Jr. of Southern Pines, Odell Boyte of Blythewood, S.C.; seven grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Nancy H. Jennings

LONG BEACH - Nancy Heath Jennings, 62, of 3604 E. Oak Island Drive, formerly of Ramseur, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.

She was a native of Stokes County and a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, William C. Jennings of the home; daughters, Eva Jennngs Cehan of Greensboro, Julianne Shanklin of Wilton, N.H.; sisters, Dolly Jean Heritage, Christina Heath, both of Matthews; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home, Southport, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lee J. Stone
Lee Jay Stone, 91, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Church of The Good Shepherd, Asheboro, where he was a member. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Frackville, Pa., a graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a B.S. in economics, and Columbia University with a master's of Business Administration. He was a coach and in education for 31 years and coached at Appalachian State Teachers College, Trenton State Teachers College, Trenton, N.J., Lee Edwards High School, Asheville, Broughton High School, Raleigh and Asheboro High School.

His achievements were North Carolina State AAA Championship at Broughton High; Western N.C. High School Activities Association championships at Asheboro High in 1950, l958 and 1965; 29 consecutive years without a losing season; twice head coach in the N.C. Shrine Bowl; coach the West team in the East-West All Star Game; past president of N.C. Coaches Association and inducted into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame and the N.C. High School Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Asheboro City Schools Board, held numerous other civic positions, ran twice for the N.C. State House of Representatives and was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are daughters, Frances Stone Sechler of Asheboro, Susan Lynn Stone of Asheville; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, other times at the home of Frances and Joseph Sechler, 903 Back Creek Road, Asheboro.

Joseph D. Brown

Joseph Dwight "J.D." Brown, 55, of 1006 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Clapp's Nursing Home, Asheboro.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with Dr. Ron Hamilton officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and a former general contractor.

Surviving are son, Jeff Brown of Ramseur; daughter, Shari Brown-Hartzog of Ramseur; fiancee, Julia Ferguson of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday other times at the home.

Joshua Keith Medley, infant son of Brian and Darlene Rose Holt Medley of 961 Redwood Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dewey J. Cheek officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his parents are sisters, Laura Renee Medley of Franklinville, Rebecca Rose Medley of Asheboro; brother, Justin Lawrence Medley of Asheboro; grandparents, Nancy and William McIntosh of Franklinville, Bobby and Glenda Medley of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Helen C. Hamilton

Helen Lee Cranford Hamilton, 56, of 522 Turner St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at her home.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Kenneth Darrell Hamilton of the home; daughter, Debra Hughes of Asheboro; sister, Barbara Faulkner of Ramseur; brothers, Jack Cranford of Whitsett, Bill Cranford of Asheboro; one grandchild.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Clark G. Langley, attended Staley Wesleyan Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Emma L. Castelloe of Asheboro, Magdalene L. Wright of Staley, Martha L. Shelby of Bowie, Md., Katie L. Stone of Greensboro; sons, W. Floyd Langley, Paul R. Langley, Gattis C. Langley, Joe C. Langley, John D. Langley, all of Staley; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Cleo Denny Reitzel, 95, of 900 W. Dolphin St., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Country Forest Manor.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siler City Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Thomas Sweeley and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Graniteville, S.C., attended Winthrop College, was a former secretary to the vice president at Duke University and secretary to the Dean of Engineering at Clemson University and was retired from Chatham Insurance & Realty of Siler City. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Carroll Sunday School class and the Mary Beth Group, was an American Red Cross volunteer and a member of Chatham Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are son, Baxter P. Reitzel Jr. of Siler City; brothers, John Denny of Florence, S.C., Robert Denny of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; sisters, Margaret Denny of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Patty Denny of Columbia, S.C., Marian Hevner of Media, Pa.; two grandsons.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Assembly of God, where she was a member, with Pastor Glenn Sauls and the Rev. David Roudabush officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Colfax.

She was a native of Guilford County and the widow of William W. Hawkins.

Surviving are sons, Dave Hawkins of Asheboro, Joel Hawkins of Norman, Okla., Stephen Hawkins of Rocky Mount; daughters, Barbara Beal of Oak Ridge, Carolyn McClure of Trinity, Dianne Roudabush of Asheboro; sisters, Blanche Blackwelder of Burlington, Mildred Clement of Asheville; brother, Dewey Stafford of Joshua Tree, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
