ROBBINS - Redell Brower, 88, of 371 Dan Road, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Zion A.M.E. Church with the Rev. A.C. Winfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Oak Church of God cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Bear Creek Congregational Church and a retired brickmason.

Surviving are sisters, Reillie Shamburger and Lissie Searles, both of Robbins.

The family will be at the church 6-7 p.m. Sunday.

Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins is in charge of arrangements.

Asia N. Bullins
SEAGROVE - Asia Nykole Brigman Bullins, infant daughter of Micah Lynn Bullins and Eddie Alexander Brigman Jr., both of Seagrove, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Brenner Children's Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Asbury Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Clay Davis officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Mike and Janice Bullins and Eddie and Julie Brigman, all of Seagrove; great-grandparents, Wade and Rosa Davis of Seagrove.

Memorials may be made to Asbury Baptist Church, 395 Asbury Church Road, Seagrove, N.C. 27341.

Corman M. Criscoe
ARCHDALE - Corman Marston "Criss" Criscoe, 78, of 6412 Canter Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cumby Mortuary Archdale Chapel with the Rev. Frank L. Gribble officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Seagrove, a former board member of the Guil-Rand Fire Department and retired after 45 years from Dallas Furniture Store.

Surviving are wife, Edith Fields Criscoe of the home; son, Billy Gene Criscoe of Archdale; brother, David Lee Criscoe of High Point; sisters, Neta Hines of Wesleyan Arms and Wilma Jump of Greensboro; one granddaughter; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Arlie L. Haywood
TROY - Arlie Lee Haywood, 81, of 992 Pekin Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Parsons Grove United Methodist Church in Candor, where he was a member, with the Rev. Peggy Duncanwood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Pinehurst Furniture.

Surviving are wife, Elaine Parsons Haywood of the home; daughter, Arlaine Goforth of Troy; son, Colvin Haywood of Greensboro; sister, Brownie Deberry of Troy; brothers, Clayton Haywood and G.T. Haywood, both of Mt. Gilead, and Everette Haywood of Troy; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Parsons Grove UMC, c/o Sarah Harris, 213 Pine Lake Drive, Candor, N.C. 27229.

Minnie S. Hicks
BENNETT - Minnie Stanley Hicks, 90, of 277 Lane Mill Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Sunrise Care Facilities in Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Brush Creek Baptist Church in Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dwight Jenkins and Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Claude Hicks.

Surviving are son, Lewis "Chunk" Hicks of Siler City; daughter, Louise H. Overman of Ramseur; sisters, Margaret S. Brown of Siler City, Decie S. Murphy of High Point and Evie S. Light of Ramseur; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City 7-9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of Lewis Hicks, 511 Elk Lane, Siler City.

Coley E. Horner
ROBBINS - Coley Edward Horner, 83, of 104 Marley Road, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Heritage Care in Seven Lakes.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Acorn Ride Baptist Church with the Rev. John Williamson and Rev. Bennie Maness officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, an Army veteran of World War II and retired from Burlington Industries in Ramseur.

Surviving are sons, Eugene Horner of Riverview, Fla., and Paul Horner and Jerry Horner, both of Robbins; sister, Mozelle H. McCaskill of Robbins; brother, Dewey Horner of Robbins; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.

SOPHIA - Charles Blaine Linthicum, 69, of 6223 Flint Hill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Caraway Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jim Honeycutt, Rev. Bill Barnes and Rev. Paul Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Navy veteran, secretary and treasure of the Men's Bible Class and on the Building Committee at his church and retired from Edward Farrell Ltd.

Surviving are wife, Betty Key Linthicum of the home; daughter, Diane Saintsing of Randleman; son, Terry Blaine Linthicum of Sophia; brothers, Samuel Lee Linthicum of Sophia and Warren Linthicum and Jack Linthicum, both of Randleman; sister, Beatrice Trotter of Sophia; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Cumby Mortuary in Archdale is in charge of arrangements.

James P. Pugh
FRANKLINVILLE - James Phillmore Pugh, 65, of 2988 Hall Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bart W. Milleson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and owner/operator of Pugh Metal Finishings for 22 years.

Surviving are wife, Judy Owens Pugh; daughters, Linda Pugh Adams and Marcia Pugh, both of Franklinville, and Lorrie Pugh Duke of the home; sons, Jimmy Brower Pugh of Franklinville and Dwayne Phillmore Pugh of the home; brother, Worth Brower Pugh of Franklinville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Vondleen Scarlett
MT. GILEAD - Vondleen Hulin Scarlett, 86, of 526 Haithcock Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home Chapel in Troy. Burial will be in Jackson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Denton.

She was a native of Randolph County, a former employee of Gilead Manufacturing and the widow of Henry Scarlett.

Surviving are sons, Bennie Scarlett of Mt. Gilead and Albert Scarlett of the home; brother, Jim Hulin of Denton; one stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Margaret S. Staley
LIBERTY - Margaret S. Staley, of 1006 S. Kirkman St., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen A.M.E. Church in Liberty. Burial will be in Amos Grove Cemetery.

Surviving is a sister, Diley Sparger of Neptune, N.J.

Iro T. Swaim
SOPHIA - Iro Trueblood Swaim, 90, of 1706 Will Coltrane Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Christian Home in High Point.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Old Union United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Lanny Lancaster officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County a former home health care provider and teacher at Piney Grove and Sophia Schools and a member of Old Union Methodist Church, where she served as trustee, steward and Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are sister, Eula Coggins of High Point; brother, Cleo Swaim of High Point.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home Randleman 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Odessa L. Thompson
SEAGROVE - Odessa Lee Thompson, 59, of 6910 Bennett Road, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Pentecostal Church in Asheboro, where she was a member. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Seagrove.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are spouse, Herman Thompson; daughter, Gwendolyn L. Morehead of Seagrove; sons, Keith Louris of St. Louis, Mo., Quinton Louris of Seagrove and Mark Louris of Asheboro; stepsons, Sylvester Thompson, Travis Thompson and Christopher Thompson, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Wayne Thompson of West End; stepdaughters, Vanessa T. Spencer of Southern Pines and Nadine Womble of Robbins; sister, Irmagene Pearson of Seagrove; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the church 6-8 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of Irmagene Pearson.

CARTHAGE - Ursula Wolter Wicker, 59, of 435 Brown Road, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hancock and Rev. Joe Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are husband, Franklin M. Wicker; daughters, Patricia Arrington, Linda Bean and Jennifer Lovette, all of Carthage, Angela Waller of Woodbridge, Va., and Deborah Wicker of Durham; son, Franklin M. Wicker Jr. of Crowley, Texas; sister, Marianne Ladneu of Gautier, Miss.; brothers, Klaus Wolter and Willie Wolter, both of Germany; 15 grandchildren.

Clarence McKinney of 602 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his home.

Cline Bickett King, 75, of 434 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Mark Beane, the Rev. A.J. Kendrick and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Burlington Industries, a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are wife, Edna Burroughs King of the home; son, Darrell King; sisters, Janetta Wright, Eldora Robbins, both of Asheboro, Nieda Sanford of Gainesville, Fla., Chelsea Needham of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

ROBBINS - Leecy Barber Britt, 85, of 361 Virginia St., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Care, Southern Pines.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Burial will be in Brown's Chapel Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Marlboro County, S.C., the widow of Herbert Britt and retired from Klopman Mills.

Surviving are daughter, Bunnie Britt Garner of Robbins; sisters, Thelma Horner Williams, Katie Barber Jordon, both of Robbins; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Opal V. Whited
CARTHAGE - Opal Vera Whited of 801 Pinehurst Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Pinelake Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Carthage.

A private graveside service was Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She was a native of Canoy County, W.Va., and owner and operator of The Household Store in Southern Pines for many years.

Surviving are son, William H. "Bill" Samples of Whispering Pines; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, was in charge of the arrangements.

Avohn Matthews
SEAGROVE - Avohn Matthews, 52, of Farmstead Road, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Fred Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, attended Randolph County public schools and was employed with Pugh Lumber Co.

Surviving are mother, Mary M. Matthews of Asheboro; daughter, Michelle Matthews of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Charlotte Spinks of Ramseur, Sadie Roper, Fern Pullen, both of Asheboro; brothers, Lonnie Matthews of Ramseur, Henry Samuel Matthews, Vestal Matthews, both of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

The family will be at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Sadie Roper, Asheboro.

Clarence McKinney
Clarence McKinney, 83, of 602 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a retired longshoreman and the widower of Selma Weathers McKinney.

Surviving is stepson, Monroe McKinney of New York; niece, Martha McNeill, with whom he had lived.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30-2 p.m. Thursday.

Elvie B. McNeill
Elvie Burkhart McNeill, 81, of 232 West St., Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sisters, Alma Lassiter of Mocksville, Vella Mabry of Randleman.

The family will be at the funeral home 11-12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Samuel L. Fine
DENTON - Samuel Lee Fine, 89, of 4438 N.C. 49, New London, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Peter McGuire and the Rev. Wayne Wegwart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County and a broommaker who owned and operated Fine Broom Co. for 55 years.

Surviving are wife, Ocie Loflin Fine of the home; sons, James Allen Fine of Chapel Hill, David L. Fine of Denton; sisters, Helen F. Snider, Gladys F. Surratt, both of Denton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ROBBINS - Marvin June Chalflinch, 66, of 439 Lindale, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elise Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dawes Graybeal and Dr. Jerry Vuncannon officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a former deacon and a member of the Adult Sunday School class at his church, a retired machinist and author.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Nelson Chalflinch; daughters, Terri Brooks, Carmen Halloran, both of Asheboro, Cindi Agee of Johnsonville, Lisa Roche of Deep Gap; brother, C.P. Chalflinch of Robbins; sister, Dollie C. Nipper of McClenny, Fla.; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.
