JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Dorothy Caroline Anklam Collins, 71, of 2408 Hilton Lane, formerly of Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Johnson City, Tenn., where she was a member, with the Rev. James W. Nipper officiating.

She was a native of Detroit, Mich., a member of the Women of ELCA, the ELCA Morning Circle, the Cover Girls Quilt Makers and on the newsletter staff. She was in the Altar Guild, a Vacation Bible School teacher, building committee secretary, Nursing Home visitor and Door Greeter, all at her church, and was a Salvation Army volunteer.

Surviving are husband, Raymond Collins of the home; daughter, Susan Barnhardt of Moorehead City; sons, Mike Collins of Raleigh, David Collins of Asheboro, Brian Collins, Keith Collins, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Swaney of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Jeannette Miailovich of Sonoma, Calif.; brothers, Delbert Anklam of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Wilbur Anklam of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday

Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home, Johnson City, Tenn., is in charge of the arrangements.

Edsel W. Sholar
Edsel Wimberly Sholar, 68, of 505 S. Cox St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Kenneth C. Gillikin officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.

He was a native of Rocky Mount, a graduate of East Carolina University, attended Wake Forest University, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and an engineer with the U.S. Maritime Service for 29 years.

Surviving are wife, Peggy York Sholar; sons, Greg Sholar of Manteo, Marc Sholar of Morganton; sisters, Evelyn Carter of Virginia Beach, Va., Edna Marlowe of Hampton, Va., Lois Downing of Newport News, Va., Ruth Medley of Durham; brother, Colin Sholar of Coinjock; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

LIBERTY - Nuebert Milton "Petey" Phillips Jr., 36, of 2823 Springside Road, Lot 12, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty.

Marie D. Gamber
V. Marie Duvall Gamber, 72, of 976 Burney Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall.

She was a native of Carroll County, Md.

Surviving are husband, Hamilton O. Gamber of the home; sisters, Jacqueline Cutsail of Seagrove, Joan Hood of Chico, Calif.; four step-grandchildren.

Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh, is in charge of the arrangements.

SILER CITY - James Basil Perry, 71, of 1635 Woody Store Road, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at South Fork Friends Church, Snow Camp, with the Rev. Jon Reece officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving is sister, Bartialette Lindley of Siler City.

CARTHAGE - Herbert R. Garner, 76, of 301 Old Garner Place Road, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Taylor and the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Patsy S. Garner; daughters, Sylvia Walker of Aberdeen, Dale Caddell of West End; son, Wade Garner of Raeford; sisters, Frances Martindale of Highfalls, Dorothy Childress of Carthage; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Katherine T. Robbins
Katherine Irene Trogdon Robbins, 84, of 1637 Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Brunswick Community Hospital, Supply.

Phillip "Ratt" Jennings, 83, of 115 Northridge Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emanuel United Holiness Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a deacon at his church.

Surviving are daughters, Manie Lee Jennings of the home, Betty Jean Jennings of Fort Mill, S.C.; son, Ricky Cheek of Portland, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Max Morton
FRANKLINVILLE - Max Morton, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998.

A private service was held.

Surviving are son, Phillip Morton of Greensboro; daughters, Loretta Morton, Sharon Heldreth, both of Greensboro, Barbara Ann Scates of Parson, Tenn., Bonnie Glascock of Topping, Va.; brother, Harold Morton of Mt. Gilead; sister, Yolanda Jackson of Chicago, Ill; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Cremation Services Inc., Winston-Salem, was in charge of the arrangements.

DENTON - J. Grant Varner, 66, of Bringle Ferry Road, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Harley Boggan
MT. GILEAD - Harley Boggan, 84, of 715 Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond, Va.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomasville Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, where he was a member, with the Rev. Louis Blakney officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Mt. Gilead.

Surviving are wife, Irene Lilly Boggan of the home; daughter, Tina Boggan-Camara of Maryland; brothers, George T. Boggan, Leroy Boggan, both of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Vera Jones of Bronx, N.Y., Bertha Davis of Alexandria, Va., Eula Jones of Queens, N.Y.; two grandchildren.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, was in charge of the arrangements.

Flora R. Blue
TROY - Flora "Bobbie" Roberts Blue, 62, of 167 Morris St., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. A. T. Robertson Jr. and the Rev. Lee Church officiating. Burial will be in the McRae Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, James C. Blue of the home; son, Jimmy Blue of Troy; daughter, Karen Moore of Troy; sisters, Eunice Moore, Edna Batten, Mary Lee Bruton, all of Troy, Maxine Robinson of Albemarle; brothers, John Roberts of Silver Springs, Md., J.D. Roberts of Mt. Gilead; three grandchildren.

PITTSBORO - Julia Elizabeth Riddle White, 93, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Laurels of Chatham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanks Chapel UCC, Pittsboro.

Surviving are sons, Gerald Milton White of Raleigh, Samuel Wade White of Pittsboro; sisters, Elsie White, Ida Riddle, Foy Mann, all of Pittsboro; brothers, Ralph Riddle, L.J. Riddle Jr., both of Pittsboro; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Griffin Funeral Home, Pittsboro, 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Richard Sulon "Dicky" Tysinger, 46, of 1893 Foxfield Road, Sophia, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Charlotte United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodney Purcel officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro, a self-employed brick mason for 20 years and employed with First South Utility Construction of Statesville.

Surviving are wife, Kathy Robbins Tysinger of the home; sisters, Janet Clayton of Asheboro, Paget Lassiter of Greensboro; brother, Johnny Tysinger of Asheboro.

Katherine T. Robbins

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday and at the home 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.

He was a native of High Point, a U.S. Navy veteran, attended West Asheboro Church of God and was employed with Technimark.

Parrish, Ray Parrish, both of Asheboro, Max Parrish of Seagrove; half sisters, Esther Cox, Hilda Robbins, both of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Sommerville, Mass., attended Abbot Hall School, bred and showed German shepherds and was an American Kennel Club judge.

Surviving are sons, Benjamin F. Sands Jr. of North Reading, Mass., Loring Burns Sands of Danville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
