Funeral service will be 1 p .m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ronald Hester and the Rev. Bill Dennis officiating.

He was a fourth-grade honor student at Grays Chapel Elementary and attended Clearview Baptist Church.

Surviving are parents, Tim and Tonya Hogan of the home; sister, Tiffany Amber Hogan of the home; brother, Daniel Tyler Hogan of the home; grandparents, James and Dian Lineberry, Donald and Nancy VonCannon Falk, all of Franklinville; great-grandparents, Marshal and Lois Lineberry of Grays Chapel.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Charles W. Green
Charles William Green, 75, of 769 William Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at West Asheboro Church of God, where he was a member, with the Rev. Scott Daniel, the Rev. Tommy Fuquay, the Rev. Thurman Jenkins, the Rev. Lawrence Leonhardt and the Rev. C.L. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and attended Sunrise Church of God.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy Boykin Green of Asheboro; daughters, Carolyn G. Jones of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Teresa G. Daniel of Asheboro; sister, Nora G. Ponton of Williamsburg, Va.; brother, Clifford Green of Lexington; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Hoyt E. Gragg
ARCHDALE - Hoyt E. Gragg, 67, of 511 Playground Road, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home, High Point, with Elder Steven Nichols officiating. Burial was in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Blue Ridge, Ga., a Korean War U.S. Army veteran, a retired paint contractor and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Clodfelter Gragg of the home; daughters, Teresa Pollard of Asheboro, Debbie Gragg of Laplata, Md.; brothers, Frank Gragg of Archdale, Ralph Gragg of Sewell, N.J.; sister, Rena Stacey of Rutherfordton.

Edward M. Jeffries
ROBBINS - Edward Monroe Jeffries, 49, of 240 E. Elm St., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Robbins, a Vietnam War U.S. Marines veteran and formerly employed with Klaussner Furniture Industries.

Surviving are mother, Arlene M. Jeffries of the home; son, Brian Jeffries of the home; sisters, Carol J. Chriscoe of Seagrove, Linda J. Jerrell of Gastonia, Brenda J. Allred of Robbins; brothers, Jerry Jeffries of Raeford, Bobby Jeffries of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

John McNair
John McNair, 86, of Passaic, N.J., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in Passaic.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Melita Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dexter Trogdon Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Shepherd Cemetery.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a former member of Melita Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Bessie Edwards, Donell Truesdale, both of Passaic, N.J., Mae Hutchinson of Patterson, N.J.; sisters, Gertrude McAllister of Laurinburg, Mary Williams, Margaret Douglas, Blanche McNair, Minnie Strickland, Catherine Walls, all of Passaic, N.J.; brothers, Green C. McNair of Asheboro, Willard McNair of Troy; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Monday, other times at 5890 U.S. 64 West, Asheboro.

Louise S. Merritt
Louise Smith Merritt, 91, formerly of 2001 Dellwood Drive, Greensboro, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Sunrise Care Center, Asheboro.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro.

She was a native of Davidson College, attended St. Hildah's Hall, Charlestown, W. Va., and Randolph Macon College, Lynchburg, Va. She was a homemaker, a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church, the Greensboro Legal Auxiliary, former Wednesday Afternoon Book Club member and a tutor for dyslexia.

Surviving are husband, Robert A. Merritt of Asheboro; sons, Robert L. Merritt of Asheboro, Dr. Frank S. Merritt of Glen Ellyn, Ill., brother, Dr. O. Norris Smith of Greensboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the memorial service.

TROY - Bill Zip Howell Sr., 73, of 925 N. Main St., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe officiating. Burial was in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, retired from C & A Textiles and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are wife, Kathleen Dennis Howell of the home; son, Bill Howell Jr. of Troy; sisters, Mitchell Howell, Bert Cochrane, both of Troy; brother, B. S. Howell Jr. of Fuquay Varina; two granddaughters.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired logger and a World War II veteran.

Surviving are wife, Pauline Corbett Mullinix of the home; son, Donnie Mullinix of Troy; daughter, Deanna Saunders of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters, Merlene Dennis of Troy, Betty Burnside of Clinton, S.C., Eunice Childress of Belmont, Judy Talbert of Pasadena, Calif; six grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

She was a native of Lee County and the widow of Eston Egbert Craven Sr. and Marvin Kennedy.

Egbert Craven Jr. of Lexington, Thomas Craven of Nashville, Tenn., Richard Craven, Eugene Craven, both of Carthage; sisters, Evelyn Gunter of Lillington, Dorothy Higgins of Sayre, Pa.; brothers, George McDuffie of Carthage, Hayden McDuffie of Sanford, Herman McDuffie of Winston-Salem, Tommie McDuffie of Salisbury Mills, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, a Korean War veteran and a retired district manager with Woodman of the World.

Surviving are wife, Fedalla R. Routh of North Highlands, Calif.; sons, Joseph L. Routh Jr., David L. Routh, Tony Routh, Terry Routh, all of North Highlands, Calif.; mother, Patsy Key of Asheboro; sisters, Margaret McCann of Winston-Salem, Carolyn R. Radcliff of Randleman; several grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

SEAGROVE - Sherman Ray Hussey, 61, of 9254 Riverside Road, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Needham's Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Cockram, the Rev. D.L. Hussey and the Rev. Leonard Moore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired construction foreman for International Steel, a cattle farmer and a member of West Asheboro Baptist Church. He was an Honorary Member of 1st Division Special Forces, U.S. Army and awarded the Outstanding Civilian Medal for civilian service for 1976-1998. He was a charter member and director of the Tri-County Ruritan Club where he was recently awarded honorary membership status for outstanding service.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Dunlap Hussey of the home; daughter, Vickie H. Stone of Asheboro; son, Tony Hussey of Asheboro; sisters, Carolyn Webb of Greensboro, Betty Dunlap of Robbins, Shirley Jarrell of Asheboro; brothers, Bobby Hussey of Blacksburg, Va., Jerry Hussey of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Charles B. Garner
SEAGROVE - Charles Buren Garner, 86, of 159 South N.C. 705, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Ron Wachs and the Rev. Bennie Maness officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites.

He was a native of Moore County, attended Farm Life School, was a farmer, sawmill operator, a member of Elise Masonic Lodge #555 A.F. & A.M. and of the Seagrove Grange.

Surviving are wife, Wanda Fritts Garner of the home; sister, Estelle G. Ptaszynski of Troy.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

SILER CITY - Ferbie Hopkins Stanton, 85, of 203 N. 6th Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Sunrise Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Andrews officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Louis A. Stanton.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Ann Self, Velma Sadler, both of Siler City, Carolyn Lemons of Apex; sisters, Lillian Sadler, Jo Ann Spain, both of Hobucken; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Liberty and a homemaker.

Thomas H. Abernethy
Thomas Hilliard "Tom" Abernethy, 57, of 1031 S. Cox St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at West Bend United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David C. Noyes and the Rev. Keys Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Catawba County, currently employed with Klaussner Furniture Industries and operated Tom Abernethy Mobile D.J. and Tom Abernethy Country Crafts. He was a disk jockey for WGWR radio in the late 50's and early 60's and was the leader of the band, "The Invaders," during the 1960's.

Surviving are wife, Martha Marion Abernethy of the home; sons, Lee Abernethy of Asheboro, Joseph Scott "Joey" Abernethy of the home; brother, Joseph Guy Abernethy of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Earl F. Sibbett Sr.
RANDLEMAN - Rev. Earl Francis Sibbett Sr., 76, of 310 E. Brown St., died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Avenue Church of God, Asheboro, with Dr. Mike L. Baker, the Rev. Boyd F. Byerly, the Rev. Rodney S. Vickers and the Rev. Phillip King officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was in the Church of God ministry for 43 years, pastor of the Randleman Church of God for 28 years and served in pastorates in several other North Carolina towns. He served on the Church of God architectural committee, built churches in at least eight North Carolina towns including Randleman and was a builder and foreman for construction of Western North Carolina State Executive Offices and East Coast Bible College.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Sibbett of Randleman; daughters, Linda Laughlin of Cedar Falls, Sharon Baker of Cleveland, Tenn.; son, Dickie Sibbett of Randleman; sister, Virginia Barnes of Randleman; brother, Major Sibbett of Randleman; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
