ROBBINS - Losie Cockman Barber, 90, of St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center, Southern Pines, formerly of Robbins, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at the Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cross Roads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield, the Rev. Bennie Maness and the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Ted Barber of Star, Arthur Barber, Mack Barber, both of Carthage; daughters, Betty B. Dunlap of Robbins, Judy B. Oldham of Bear Creek; sisters, Ocie Brown of Carthage, Ressie McDaniel of Central Falls, Tessie Kennedy, Mabel Glenn, both of Robbins; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Betty Dunlap, 5048 N.C. 705 North, Robbins.

Jacob W. Dixon
GULF - Jacob William "Bill" Dixon, 74, of 1342 Murchison Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Goldston United Methodist Church, Goldston, with the Rev. Susan Cafferty and the Rev. David Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Goldston Cemetery.

He was a member of Goldston Baptist Church, retired from Miller Heating and Air Conditioning Co., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Goldston American Legion Post #292.

Surviving are daughter, Candyce Dixon of Goldston; wife, Dorothy Castleberry Dixon of Sanford; sister, Hazel D. Gilchrist of Charlotte; brother, Hugh Dixon of Goldston; Ernestine Seagroves of the home.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 65 Windsor St., Goldston.

Joseph B. Goldston Jr.
GOLDSTON - Joseph Baxter Goldston Jr., 70, of 1291 Goldston-Glendon Road, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Goldston Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Goldston Cemetery.

He attended Oak Ridge Military Academy in Greensboro and Campbell College and was in the farming business.

Surviving are wife, Lilly Beth Goldston of Goldston; sons, Joseph Baxter Goldston III of Chatham County, David Carl Goldston of Cary; daughter, Katherine Lynn Goldston of Cary; sisters, Virginia White of Vadalia, Ga., Martha Kirkpatrick of Way Cross, Ga., Mary Jordan of Fayetteville; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

DeBernie R. Murray
EVANS MILLS, N.Y. - DeBernie Rice Murray, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls, N.Y.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, with Major Terry Edward, Salvation Army, officiating.

He was a native of Burlington, a graduate of Williams High School, Burlington and an honors graduate of Alamance Community College with an Associate degree. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam, where he recieved a Bronze Medal from each, a member of American Legion Post 61 and V.F.W. Post 1400 in Watertown, N.Y., retired from the Civil Service after 20 years and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are sons, George Franlklin Murray of Little Falls, N.Y., James Phillip Murray of Watertown, N.Y.; brothers, William Murray of Asheboro, Bobby Murray of Burlington; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Sylvia M. Reynolds
CARTHAGE - Sylvia Mae Reynolds, 53, of 1441 Ring Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Home Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and employed with St. Joseph of the Pines.

Surviving are daughter, Sandra Donathan of Carthage; son, Danny Reynolds of Carthage; sisters, Loreen Key, Lela Reynolds, both of Carthage, Naomi Gibbons of Aberdeen, Etta Dyson of Reidsville; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Wayne and Loreen Key, 1057 Shaw Road, Carthage.

Raymond B. Collins
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Raymond Bernard Collins, 71, of 2408 Hilton Lane, formerly of Asheboro died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Johnson City, Tenn., where he was a member, with the Rev. James W. Nipper officiating.

He was a native of Rockingham, the widower of Dorothy Caroline Anklam Collins, retired plant manager from Burlington Industries, Johnson City, after 20 years, a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, a member of Unaka Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are daughter, Susan Barnhardt of Morehead City; sons, Mike Collins of Raleigh, David Collins of Asheboro, Brian Collins, Keith Collins, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; sister, Lois Black of Thomasville; brother, Vernon Collins of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home, Johnson City, Tenn., is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie N. Fleming
HAMPTONVILLE - Elsie Nelson Fleming, 79, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Clemmons.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Flat Rock Baptist Church, Hamptonville, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tim Cannon, the Rev. Dewey Hobbs and the Rev. David Baxter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Hartford, Conn., a 1936 graduate of John Fitch High School and the widow of Dr. Frank R. Fleming.

Surviving are daughters, Kathryn F. Cook of Clemmons, Elizabeth F. Pugh of Asheboro; son, Frank R. Fleming Jr. of Hamptonville; sister, Linnea N. Dooley of Windsor, Conn.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Jonesville, 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Walter L. Link
SALISBURY - Walter Lee Link, 95, of Camelot Manor Retirement Home, Granite Falls, formerly of Salisbury, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, with the Rev. Randi Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Salisbury, the widower of Oralene J. Link, attended Salisbury schools, was a member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Cone Mills Co.

Surviving are sons, Bob Link of Salisbury, Bill Link of Drexel, Charles Link of Asheboro; daughter, June Peeler of Monroe; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Bob Link, 255 Neita Drive, Salisbury.

James C. Lavinder
James C. Lavinder, 58, of Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Mexico.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Henderson and employed with the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are wife, Jane Carter Lavinder; daughter, Jennifer L. Coleman; son, James Lavinder; father, C.L. Lavinder Sr. of Henderson; sisters, Ellen Williams, Judy Stinner, both of Raleigh; brother, Carlton Lavinder of Virginia Beach, Va.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-9 p.m. Friday.

Patricia A. Lambe
Patricia Arthur Lambe, 59, of 1252 Copperhead Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

No services will be held.

She was a native of Lowell, Mass., and a private duty nurse.

Surviving are husband, Clifton P. Lambe; sons, Robert Joyce of Boston, Mass., Barry Lambe of Ramseur, Franklin Lambe of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Susan Joyce of Lowell, Mass., Eugenia Savage of Ramseur, Cynthia Michaelidis of Stonehan, Mass.; brother, Gerald Arthur of Hudson, N.H.; sisters, Helen Jarrett of Salem, N.H., Leona Winters, Sandra Lones of Nashua, N.H.; 10 grandchildren.

Robert H. Lepper
Robert Howard Lepper, 62, of 7064 Old U.S. 64, Trinity, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Private services are planned for a later date.

He was a native of Crawfordville, Ind., a U.S. Air Force veteran and of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are daughter, Bobbie Hughes of Asheboro; son, Bill Lepper of Trinity; sisters, Dorothy Ellis, Virginia Lepper, Jeanie Weathers, all of Indiana; brother, Ron Lepper of Michigan; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, 658 Dawson Miller Road, Asheboro.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Aubrey W. Rich
Aubrey W. Rich, 72, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a World War II U.S. Air Corps veteran, a former building contractor, retired from contractor sales at Lowes Hardware and was a member of New Zion Church.

Surviving are wife, Virgie Morton Rich; son, Dannie Rich of Asheboro; sister, Mildred Millikan of Sophia; two stepgrandsons; four great-granddaughters.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

RANDLEMAN - Bobby Wayne Hiatt Sr., 51, of 6538 Hyatt Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Burlie E. Langley
STALEY - Burlie Edward Langley, 89, of 1817 Shady Grove Church Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at White's Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. David Edinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Bertie Kirkman Langley; sons, B. Eugene "Gene" Langley of Liberty, Thomas "Tommy" E. Langley of Staley; daughters, Hilda L. McMasters, Marie L. Meacham, Peggy L. Burke, Linda L. McManus, all of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 20 stepchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

DENTON - Jessie Kearns Crouse, 87, of Crousetown Road, Lexington, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Community General Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Cluis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Reece Crouse, a member of First United Methodist Church and Silver Valley Extension Homemaker Club, a former 4-H Club leader, a homemaker and formerly employed with Denton Little Store and the school cafeteria.

Surviving are daughters, Carolyn C. Register of Pinehurst, Nancy C. Jeffries of Raleigh; brother, Charlie Kearns of Forest City; sister, Mozelle K. Hardy of High Point; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Friday.

Bobby W. Hiatt Sr.
RANDLEMAN - Bobby Wayne Hiatt Sr., 51, of 6538 Hyatt Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Level Cross Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Mills officiating. Burial will be in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a self-employed plumber and carpenter and a member of B.A.S.S.

Surviving are wife, Sandra Julian Hiatt of Randleman; daughter, Sandra H. Michael of Randleman; sons, Bobby Wayne Hiatt Jr., William Lee Hiatt, both of Level Cross; mother, Margaret Hyatt of Level Cross; brothers, Walter Lee Hyatt, Frank Hyatt, both of Sophia, Johnny Hyatt, Charlie Hyatt, both of Randleman, Jimmy Hyatt, Tommy Hyatt, both of Liberty; sisters, Marie Williams, Joyce Hiatt, both of Sophia, JoAnn Gerringer of Greensboro, Darlene Shoaf of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren.

TRINITY - Oscar Henry Hunt, 73, of 2391 Ross Wood Road, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Elder Ted Morton, Elder Vance Jones and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired maintenance supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 43 years, a cattle farmer and member of North Carolina Cattleman's Association and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Catherine Summey Hunt of the home; sons, Billy Darrel Hunt of Winston-Salem, Tom Hunt of Trinity; daughter, Brenda H. Lanier of Denton; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

She was a native of Alamance County, the widow of James Harvey Glass and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth G. Stephens, DeLoris G. Sands, both of Liberty, Pauline G. Lloyd, Catherine G. Perry, both of Graham; sons, William G. Glass of Siler City, Joe Glass of Liberty; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

LIBERTY - Grady Floyd Highfill, 59, of 360 Flint Road, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Staley Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Lindsay officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Madison.

He was a native of Pleasant Garden, a deacon at Staley Baptist Church, former member of Liberty Masonic Lodge 714, employed with Greensboro Auto Auction and formerly employed with Traders Chevrolet in Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Deann Hutching Highfill of the home; son, Danny Floyd Highfill of Albany, Ga.; stepsons, Mark Tuttle, Phillip Tuttle, both of Greensboro; brothers, Charles Highfill of Columbia, S.C., Bobby Highfill of Franklinville; sister, Lola Baines of Regalwood; seven grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely, the Rev. Darrell Coble and the Rev. Robert Doby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Smitherman Cotton Mill.

Surviving are two grandchildren.
