STOKESDALE - Mack McKinley "Kenny" Bennett, 82, of 7700 N.C. 158, Stokesdale, and formerly of 3009 N.C. 134, Asheboro, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Countryside Retirement Center, Stokesdale.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Wayne Vuncannon and the Rev. Steve Welborn officiating. Burial will be in Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a native of Stokesdale and attended Huldah Baptist Church, Asheboro.

Surviving are sister, Ruby B. Reeder of Summerfield; brother, Joseph Bennett of Pilot Mountain.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at 3009 N.C. 134, Asheboro.

Emily S. Garner
Emily Maxine Singletary Garner, 52, of 2392 Fairview Farm Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Richland Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Bladen County and a second grade teacher with the Asheboro City Schools for 30 years.

Surviving are husband, Everette Garner; daughter, Rachel Garner of the home; son, Matthew Garner of the home; brothers, Issac B. Singletary and Dawson Singletary, both of Bladenboro, Henry M. Singletary of Apex; Carolyn S. Craig of Warner Robins, Ga.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

James Ward
James Ward, 89, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Cross Roads Retirement Village, Alzheimer's Unit, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

He attended the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, was a farm worker for 20 years with the Cain and Flinchum families and worked for Cone Mills Corporation for 28 years.

Surviving are wife, Edith Flinchum Ward; daughter, Susie Frazier of Randleman; sons, Melvin Ward and Boyd Ward, both of Greensboro; brother, Lindo Ward of Star; sister, Frannie McQueen of Ramseur; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Mildred C. Welch
TRINITY - Mildred Cross Welch, 82, of 3785 Rhonda Drive, formerly of Brentwood Street, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Roy Grant officiating. Entombment will be at Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum.

She was a native of Anson County, the widow of Joseph G. Welch, retired from High Point Box Company and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Melba Potts of Trinity, Sue Kirk of Thomasville; sons, John R. Welch of High Point, William Michael "Mike" Welch of Archdale; brothers, John Bain Cross of Kingston, Tenn., Ray Cross of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Sherry S. Miller
ROBBINS - Sherry Simpson Miller, 34, of N.C. 24/27, died Saturday, April 17,1999.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Robbins Crossroads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are son, Stephen Shane Miller of Robbins; mother, Shirley Jackson Saunders of Robbins; brother, Jimmy Michael Simpson of Robbins; half brother, William Andrew Berry of Robbins; half sister, Angela Beasley of Robbins; grandparents, Grace Jackson of Robbins and Wesley Simpson of Albemarle.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of her mother, N.C. 24/27 East.

Erlene L. Pollard
CANDOR - Erlene Ledbetter Pollard, 84, of Candor, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Graveside service will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Candor Town Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating.

She was a native of Talladega, Ala., a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Biscoe.

Surviving are husband, Edwin E. Pollard of the home; son, Edwin E. Pollard Jr. of Candor; daughter, Diane P. LeBlanc of Charlotte; brother, Tom G. Ledbetter of Birmingham Ala.; sister, Macy Atkins of Birmingham Ala.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Evie B. Pugh
Evie Ellen Brady Pugh, 77, of 514 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, April 19,1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Frank Cordrey officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Richard Pugh, a member of Balfour Baptist Church and was retired from Randolph Mall.

Surviving are sisters, Delia Holland of Asheboro, Letha Nelms of Lubbock, Texas, Mary Frances Waddell of Paragould, Ark.; brother, Pate Carter of Eden.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Delia Holland, 3716 Mechanic Road, Asheboro.

RANDLEMAN - Marjorie Lynn Belo Royal, 56, of 252 St. Peter Church Road, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the home of her daughter.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Charles Tyson officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of William Penn High School and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are husband, James Royal of the home; daughter, Marcia Hopper of Greensboro; son, Jeffrey Royal of Randleman; sisters, Carolyn Hicks, Hilda Battle, both of High Point; brothers, Philiph Belo of Randleman, James Belo of Greensboro, Robert Belo of Trinity, Harold Belo of Glenola; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Anita H. Curtis
GREENSBORO - Anita Louise Holliman Curtis, 59, of 302 Apartment A, North Swing Road, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

She was a native of Rockingham County, the widow of Wayne Curtis and a charter member of Community Baptist Church in Graham.

Surviving are daughters, Bonita Gayle Curtis of the home, Sharon Louise CIark of Reidsville; son, Larry Bayne Curtis of Greensboro; sisters, Merle Martin of Graham, Rosemary Johnson of Burlington; brother, John Allen Martin Jr. of Graham; mother-in-law, Jessie J. Curtis of the home; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Kester O. Williams
STAR - Kester O. Williams, 79, formerly of 155 Center St., died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Nelson Chambers and the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery.

He was a former deacon at First Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, former fire chief of the Star V.F.D., former Recorders Court Judge and a retired insurance agent and oil distributor.

Surviving are wife, Frances Bennett Williams of the home; daughters, Jill Eason of Holden Beach, Krystal Williams of the home; son, Bobby Williams of Blountville, Ala.; sister, Aileen Barber of Raleigh; brother, Kyle Williams of Albuquerque, N.M.; step-mother, Mary Williams of Virginia Beach, Va.; step-sister, Jean Ingold of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

W. Bascom Ritter
ROBBINS - Willie Bascom Ritter, 61, of 1104 Needham Grove Road, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Needham Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James E. Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired supervisor at Klopman Mills.

Surviving are wife, Minnie Burns Ritter; daughters, Andrea R. Baker of Lambese, France, Heather A. Ritter of Asheboro, Wilhemina Ritter of the home; mother, Myrtle Hussey Ritter of Robbins; sister, Betty R. Davis of Trinity; brother, Boyd Ritter of Robbins; four grandchildren.

James R. Evers Sr.
EAGLE SPRINGS - James Richard Evers Sr., 58, of 147 Evers Road, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ernest Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Robeson County and a vocational teacher at North Moore High School.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Sessoms Evers of the home; son, James Richard Evers Jr. of Robbins; daughter, Melissa E. Oakley of Cameron; mother, Dessie Hickman Lamb of Red Springs; sister, Joyce Prevatte of McCormick, S.C.

She was retired from Washington Mills Company and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Dewey Ray Holland of the home; daughters, Doris Swaim of Asheboro, Alene Hall, Irene Brown, Helen Hatcher, all of Stoneville, Louise Lendermen of Statesville, Marie Fox, Liz Wilkins, both of Madison; brothers, Pete Chaney, Jack Chaney, both of Stoneville; sister, Emma Chaney of Madison, eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Guilford County, formerly worked with Petty Enterprises and later worked for 27 years as a photographer for The Courier-Tribune.

Surviving are wife, Jesse Baker of the home; daughters, Jeanine B. Wilson of Asheboro, Ronda B. Shortridge of Graham; mother, Julia Sherrill Baker of Greensboro; brothers, Wayne Baker of Rehobeth, Del., Roger Baker of Mayodan; three grandsons.

She was a native of Mountain City, Tenn., and a homemaker.

HIGH POINT - Agnes "Peggy" Taylor Odom, 82, of 2134-D Chester Ridge Drive, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at the Human Service Alliance in Winston-Salem.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Clinton City Cemetery in Clinton, with the Rev. Tom Supplee officiating.

She was a native of Surry County, a self-employed hairdresser and a member of the Cosmetologist Association where she had served on the Board of Directors. She was a member of Kenner United Methodist Church in Clinton and of the Women's Group at the church.

Surviving are husband, Thomas Edwin Odom of the home; sisters, Buffy Ciavarelli of Altaloma, Calif., Doris Moore of Trinity, Lillian Johnson of Tacoma, Wash., Mary Myers of Lexington.

The family will be at Cumby Mortuary, Eastchester Drive, High Point, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

She was a native of Kentucky and a retired knitter with Bear Creek Hosiery.

STAR - Thomas "Tom" Beane, 94, of 1148 Blackankle Road, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at FirstHealth Family Care.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Big Oak Church of God, with the Rev. Earl Ward officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a farmer and a logger.

Surviving are sons, Ralph Beane, Hobert Beane, Mitchell Beane, Gurney Beane, all of Star; daughters, Hazel Saunders of Asheboro, Frances Dunn of Star; brother, John Beane of Asheboro; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
