MT. GILEAD - Peggy Orene Beane McKinnon, 61, of 410 Wadesboro Blvd., died Friday, May 9, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Family Worship Ministries, Taft Street, Troy, where she was a member, with the Rev. Harold Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 590 Hydro Road, Mt. Gilead.

She was a Montgomery County native and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Gary McKinnon of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Kathy Chappell of Ellerbe; brother, Terrell "Junior" Beane of Mt. Gilead; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Thelma B. Overman
ASHEBORO - Thelma Bondurant Overman, 89, of Asheboro, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore and the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington.

She was a homemaker, a former REALTOR in Burlington, a member of the Battle of Alamance Chapter # 256, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Carole O. Davis of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Doris L. Nixon
RANDLEMAN - Doris Leigh Nixon, 77, of 731 S. Main St., died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at her home

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Country Holiness Cemetery, with the Rev. Ronald Robbins and the Rev. Ben Stowe officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, a former hairdresser, a former employee of Bost Neckwear and she attended Bible Holiness Church.

Surviving are son, Larry Nixon of Asheboro; daughter, Shelia N. Hauser of Franklinville; one grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Alan R. Cooper
MILTON, Wis. - Alan Robert Cooper, 87, of 8431 E. L-J Townline Road, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Ft. Atkinson Health Care Center, Ft. Atkinson, Wis.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton, Wis., with the Rev. Mike Orsted officiating. Burial will be in Milton West Cemetery.

He was a native of Whitewater, Wis., a 1932 graduate of Whitewater High School and a farmer. He was a director of Badger-land Corp. of Whitewater, a former employee of Badger-land in Milton, Wis., and a volunteer for Rock Haven. He delivered Meals on Wheels in Rock County, was a member of P.M.P. and P.M.A. Milk Association and an usher for North Lima Church.

Surviving are wife, Helen Messmer Cooper; sons, Richard Cooper of Asheboro, Robert Cooper of Janesville, Wis.; brothers, Walter Cooper of Whitewater, Wis., Maurice Cooper of Deforest, Wis.; sisters, Lucile Cooper of Manitowoc, Wis., Elizabeth Messmer of Jefferson, Wis.; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday.

Vance C. Trogdon Sr.
ASHEBORO - Vance Calvin Trogdon Sr., 76, of 125 Claude Holden Road, Randleman, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. J.D. Wall and the Rev. Frank Gribble officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a former Virginia State Trooper and a former Auxiliary member of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department. He retired from Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company after 31 years, was currently employed as a greeter with Wal-Mart in Randleman, a member of Gospel Baptist Church, Archdale, and a former member of Faith Temple Baptist Church, where he was an assistant choir director.

Surviving are wife, Peggy P. Trogdon; daughters, Deborah T. Barefoot of Dunn, Charlene T. Cromer of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Vance C. Trogdon Jr. of Kernersville, John T. Trogdon of Asheboro, Alan L. Trogdon of Winston-Salem, Tony Laughlin of Lincolnton; brother, Ted Trogdon of Abilene, Texas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

RANDLEMAN - Dennie Clarence Taylor, 58, of 127 E. River Drive, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Guilford Memorial Park, with the Rev. Rosser Clapp officiating.

He was a native of Hertford County and a former employee of Tarheel Paving in High Point.

Surviving are wife, Ann Taylor; daughter, Venee Mahala of Lexington; stepson, Joseph E. LaRue of Asheboro; brother, J.T. Taylor of Eure; sisters, Nannie Miller of Randleman, Ruby Lassiter of Rich Square, Elsie Moore of Edenton; one grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fayne Hill
DENTON - Walter Fayne Hill, 81, of Piedmont School Road, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Lineberry United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dan McClure and the Rev. Randy Lucas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, a trustee and a choir member at his church. He was on the Board of Directors and a past president of the Farm Bureau, a volunteer with the Threshers Reunion and a graduate of Denton School.

Surviving are wife, Etta Johnson Hill of the home; daughters, Faye Hill of Denton, Sandra H. Hopkins of New Hope, Patricia H. Miller of Concord, Mary Sue Hill of Denton; foster daughter, Carolyn Hill; mother, Lula Viola Hill Templeton of Asheboro; brother, Kent Cook of Sumter, S.C.; sister, Iris Allen of Asheboro; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

PITTSBORO - William Joseph "Joe" Clark, 70, of 7395 U.S. 64 West, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Emmaus Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a cattle and poultry farmer and a member of the county and state Cattlemen Association.

Surviving are wife, Linda Foust Clark of Pittsboro; daughter, Julie Clark of the home; son, Mark T. Clark of Pittsboro; stepmother, Ruth Roberson Clark of Pittsboro; brother, Mack Clark of Garner; sister, Peggy C. Camp of Mooresville; two grandsons.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Clara Gatlin Brewer, 85, of 8344 N.C. 705, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at the home of her sister, Nellie Freeman, 6231 Old Troy Road, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Browns Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan and the Rev. Dawes Graybeal officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Lacy Brewer, a member of Bensalem Presbyterian Church and Circle # 1 at her church. She was a retired employee of Robbins Mills and Brewers Grocery and Repair Shop.

Surviving are sisters, Nellie Freeman of Asheboro, Pauline Bowman of Biscoe; brothers, Lester Gatlin of Asheboro, Charles Gatlin of Bennett, Ernest Gatlin of Seagrove.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Nellie Freeman, 6231 Old Troy Road, Asheboro.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Harry S. "Skeeter" Sams, 58, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Baptist Church of Park Glen, Fort Worth, Texas, where he was a member.

He was a native of Sheridan, Wyo., a former Controller/Accountant for Los Angeles Freightliner and for Parks Chevrolet of Greensboro. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW and Car Modelers Association of Fort Worth, a former Scoutmaster in Hacienda Heights, Calif., and a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society of Fort Worth.

Surviving are wife, Laura Sams; son, Daniel Sams of Chapel Hill; mother, Virginia Sams of Sheridan, Wyo.; brothers, James Sams of Recluse, Wyo., Bill Buckendahl of Arroyo Grand, Calif., Mike Bates of Wiggins, Colo.

Forest Ridge Funeral Home, Hurst Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Dorothy Russell Cox, 82, of Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., formerly of Shamrock Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Franke at Seaside.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of the New Hope Community and the widow of Hobart C. "Corky" Cox.

Surviving are daughter, Lisa Irvin of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; son, Mike Cox of Ijamsville, Md.; brothers, Lloyd Russell and Ernest Russell, both of Asheboro; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

RANDLEMAN - Faye Cooley Gaster, 59, of 106 Shaw St., died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a life long resident of Randleman, a graduate of Randleman High School and attended East Carolina University. She was Miss Randolph County in 1962.

Surviving are daughters, Kim G. Poteate of Harrisburg and Kristy G. Leung of Greensboro; mother, Mildred Blackmon Cooley of Randleman; sister, Luanne C. Reeder of Randleman; two grandchildren.

She was a Moore County native, the widow of Dewey G. Wallace, a member of the Sunday School Class and W.M.U at her church, and was retired from Pride-Trimble Company.

Surviving are son, Dewey R. Wallace of Seven Valleys, Pa.; daughter, Janet W. Brewer of the home; sisters, Agnes H. Stutts of Carthage and Margaret H. Dalrymple of Sanford; six grandchildren; four-great-grandchildren.

She was a Rowan County native, a homemaker, a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and the W.M.U. at her church.

Surviving are husband, Walter R. Frank of the home; daughters, Paulette Frank and Brenda Parks, both of Denton; son, Robert Frank of Thomasville; sister, Ruby Carrick of Lexington; four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dan McClure and the Rev. Mike McClellan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Fred Cook, a 1932 graduate of Denton School, a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher and a charter member of the United Methodist Women at her church. She was a volunteer at Mountain Vista Health Park and a member of the Homemakers Extension Club.

Surviving are son, Ralph L. Cook of Lexington; daughter, Pearl C. Miller of Denton; half brother, Rex Luther of Denton; sister, Carmol Smith of Denton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the daughter, 910 Cook Road.
