ASHEBORO - Flora Mae Maness Hurley, 78, of 3913 U.S. 64 East, Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Robbins and a machine operator at Bossong Hosiery Mill. She was the widow of Dewey Hurley.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Sumner, Kaye McDowell and Ann Beane, all of Asheboro; sons, Samuel Clark of Scottsville, Kent and Dewey L. Hurley Jr. of Southmont; brothers, Ellis R. Maness of Franklinville, Howard E. Maness of Seagrove, Nolen H. Maness, Harvey L. Maness, Hurley Maness and Cecil Maness, all of Asheboro; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Margaret C. Marley
LIBERTY - Margaret Caviness Marley, 75, of 616 Hodgin Valley Road, Pleasant Garden, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at Centre Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. Rusty Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Meeting cemetery.

She was a Guilford County native and a member of the Women's Circle Number 1 at her Meeting. She was a former bus driver with Guilford County Schools.

Surviving are husband, Branson Marley; daughters, Katrine East, Edith Routh, Sharon Marley, Belinda Marley and Melody Marley; sons, James Marley and Timothy Marley; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Irene B. Mendenhall
SILER CITY - Martha Irene Brewer Mendenhall, 90, of 186 Bish Road, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at Siler City Chapel, where she was a member, with the Dr. Tommy Steele and Pat Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

She was a Chatham County native, a homemaker and a former Sunday School teacher at her church. She was the widow of Junius C. Mendenhall Sr.

Surviving are daughter, Betty M. Terry of Siler City; son, J.C. Mendenhall Jr. of Greensboro; brothers, Leonard Brewer of Greensboro, Bunn Brewer of Bennett; sisters, Fonnie Watson of Kernersville, Audrey Craven of Ramseur; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday; other times at the home of daughter Betty Terry, 519 S. Second Ave., Siler City.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Albert C. Jester
TRINITY -Albert Carless Jester, 69, of Thayer Road, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at his home.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Trinity.

He was a Randolph County native and retired from Thomas Manufacturing. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at his church.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Hulin Jester of the home; daughter, Phyllis Walker of Trinity; sons, Travis Jester of Trinity and Curtis Jester of Thomasville; sisters, Bertha Russell and Bernice Cockerham, both of Asheboro, Betty Snyder of Sophia; brothers, John Dallas Jester and Fred Jester, both of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service; other times at the home.

Lucille B. Kivett
ASHEBORO - Lucille Brown Kivett, 90, formerly of Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Concord.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Holder officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native, retired from sales at Belk-Yates department store and was the widow of Vance Kivett. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Women's Circle.

Surviving are son, Henry V. Kivett Jr. of Concord; daughter, Barbara K. Willis of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of donor's choice.

Louise F. Davis
SOPHIA - Louise Foust Davis, 77, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sophia Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

She was a Guilford County native and the widow of Sidney Leo Davis. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Kathy Davis Hunt and Sharon Davis McAden, both of Randleman, and Lisa Davis Hildreth of Sophia; sisters, Shelby Jean Swaim of Winston-Salem and Peggy Hunsucker of Sophia; brother, Donald Foust of Rowland; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Edna M. Patterson
SILER CITY - Edna Maness Patterson, 90, of 18430 U.S. 64 West, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City, where she was a member, with the Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Chatham County native, retired from Kellwood Company and was the widow of Joe C. Patterson. She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class at her church and a member of Siler City Eastern Star #9 where she had served as past Worthy Matron.

Surviving are sons, Joseph Eugene Patterson of Raleigh, Larry Patterson of Ramseur, Clyde Patterson of Wilson, Wrenn Patterson of Cary and Benton Patterson of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday; other times at the family home.

Steve E. Bowman
ASHEBORO - Steve E. Bowman, 55, of 5248 Rush Mountain Road Ext., Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and he attended Calvary Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Oliver Rubber and Glass Unlimited of High Point.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy Elizabeth "Liz" Bowman; daughters, Lisa Harrington of Thomasville, Tammy Curell of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Gladys Archer of Asheboro; brother, David Archer of Asheboro; sisters, Vickie Bowman of Asheboro, Barbara Yow of Siler City; three grandchildren.

Charles B. Lockhart
RANDLEMAN - Charles Ballard "Chuck" Lockhart, 44, of 3332 Wesleyan Road, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Ellerbe Cemetery, Ellerbe.

He was a native of Ellerbe, an employee in sales with Lewis Boiler Supply in Greensboro, a graduate of Richmond Technical College and a student at Ansonville Theological Seminary. He was a deacon at his church and in the process of being ordained as a minister.

Surviving are wife, Debbie Dunn Lockhart of Randleman; daughter, Christina Nicole Hale of Randleman; mother, Jewell Lockhart of Randleman; sister, Maria Talbert of West End.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mildred L. Lukens
GREENSBORO - Mildred Marie Lippard Lukens, 91, of the Beverly Health Care of Carolina, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Liberty, where she was a member, with the Rev. Sam Shores officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro.

She was a native of Rowan County, the widow of George Lukens and a member of W.E.L.C.A.

Surviving are sister, Adele Ward of Greensboro.

Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, is in charge of arrangements.

Onnie H. Morgan
STAR - Onnie Hancock Morgan, 90, of 3855 Spies Road, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Hubert McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Browns Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Robbins.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Joyce Morgan of Troy; sons, Philip Morgan and Roger W. Morgan, both of Star; sister, Helen Powell of Fuquay Varina; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

David G. Councilman
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - David Gray Councilman, 27, of 37 Somersett Drive, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Spartanburg, S.C.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Siler City, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial will be in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

He was a native of Chatham County, a 1994 graduate of Chatham Central High School and a 1998 graduate of East Carolina University where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a 2002 graduate of the South Carolina Police Academy, a Spartanburg City Police officer and a member of the South Carolina Police Benevolent Association.

Surviving are wife, Laurin Maness Councilman of Spartanburg, S.C.; son, Jackson Gray Councilman of Spartanburg, S.C.; father and stepmother, Larry L. Councilman and Toma Councilman of Ashburn, Va.; mother and stepfather, Trudy Paschal Walters and Bennie Walters of Bear Creek; grandmother, Virginia Huddleston Paschal of Siler City; stepgrandfather, George M. Walters of Siler City; stepbrother, Jason B. Walters of Siler City; half brother, Ross A. Councilman of New Bern; stepsister, Ivey N. Walters of Greenville, N.C.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Kaylee Marie Harvel, infant daughter of Kenneth and Melissa Lambirth Harvel, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Memorial Gardens, Asheboro, with the Rev. Martin Davis officiating.

Surviving, in addition to parents, are brother, Dylan Harvel, of the home; grandparents, Michael and Brenda Lambirth and Kenneth and Sylvia Harvel, all of Asheboro; great-grandparents, Hugh Lambirth and Nina Harvel, both of Asheboro, Martin and Alice Davis of Seagrove; great-great-grandmother, Flora Lambirth of Mooresville.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Otis S. Boger
ASHEBORO - Otis Smith Boger, 76, of 3823 Spinks Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at East Side Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Roy Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Clinton, S.C., the widow of Paul N. Boger and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Wayne Boger of South Boston, Va.; daughters, Charlene Spivey and Vickie Blanks, both of Asheboro; sisters, Lake Morgan and Nell Gambrell, both of Woodruff, S.C., Alice Iddings of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Willie H. Parker
ASHEBORO - Willie Hudson "Pete" Parker, 75, of 625 Cascade Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Graveside service, with military honors, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Cheraw, S.C., the widower of Dora Lee Parker, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of Woodell Paint and Drywall.

Surviving are sons, Tim Parker of Burlington, Curtis Parker of Asheboro, Dale Parker of Franklinville; daughters, Judy Gray of Wilmington, Sandra Foy of Greer, S.C., Sherrie Duggins of Raleigh, Norma Jean Lanier of Denton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Dale Parker, 2644 Cedar Falls Road, Franklinville.

RANDLEMAN - Anthony Wayne "Tony" Routh, 39, of 385 Bowers Lane, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Danny Jarrell officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native and formerly employed with Tire Components in Randleman.

Surviving are parents, Dean and Helen Jessup Dixon of Randleman; sister, Jacquelyn Routh Davis of Randleman; brother, Willie Routh of Randleman.

The family will be at the funeral home, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday; other times at the home of his parents.

Jerry B. Nance
GREENSBORO - Jerry Brian Nance, 37, of 10903 Sunburst Lane, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mark Walters officiating.

He was a Randolph County native, formerly employed with Butler Trailer in Level Cross and attended Randleman High School.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Jolene Nance of Greensboro; daughters, Ashley Nance and Heather Nance, both of the home, and Brittany Nance of Randleman; parents, John and Shirley Jordan of Randleman; sister, Tina Scott of Randleman; brother, Todd Jordan of Randleman; grandmother, Doris Tiner of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday; other times at the home of his parents, Brennan Place Mobile Home Park #3, Randleman.

MT. GILEAD - Paul Andrew Cooke, 72, of 533 Shoe Factory Road, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall Mt. Gilead Jehovah's Witness, where he was a member.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired employee of Collins & Aikman.

Surviving are wife, Carolyn Watkins Cooke of the home; daughters, Avis Cooke and Rhoda C. Goode, both of Mt. Gilead, Paula C. Butler of Greensboro, Barbara C. Benjamin of Norwood; sons, Dallas Cooke and Fernando Cooke, both of Mt. Gilead, Paul A. Cooke Jr. of Charlotte, Bobby Cooke of Ellerbe, Larry Watkins of Durham; brother, Alonzo Cooke of Mt. Gilead; sister, Pauline Willmore of Mt. Gilead; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Peter M. Hadley
ASHEBORO - Peter Melton Hadley, 79, of 230 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving is brother, Estel Hadley of Asheboro.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Ingram
MT. GILEAD - Robert Lee Ingram, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Evans Rest Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Howard Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a Korean War veteran and a member of American Legion Post #358. He was a member of the Missionary Society and a Sunday School steward at his church and a former lab technician.

Surviving are sons, Steven Craig Ingram of New Haven, Conn., Minister David Wooley of Mt. Gilead; daughters, Glenda Jacobs and Gwendolyn Sasser, both of New Haven, Conn.; brother, Roosevelt Ingram of Mt. Gilead; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of the brother, N.C. 109 South, Mt. Gilead.

Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of arrangements.
