Thomas Aaron Thompson
Mr. Thomas Aaron Thompson, age 74, of Holleman Road, Jonesville, passed away on December 3, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Thompson was born on August 10, 1928, in Surry County to Benjamin Horton and Emma Cockerham Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was retired from Bahnson Company and was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Thompson Wingfield; a brother, Ralph Thompson; a half-brother, Horton Thompson; and a half-sister, Mary Thompson Spainhour.
Survivors include Naomi Simmons Thompson, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Chris (Brenda) Thompson of Yadkinville; one brother, Ray K. Thompson, of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Alice Thompson Umhau, of Winston-Salem; one grandson, Andrew Christian Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Tim Nelson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Annie Lee Byrd
Ms. Annie Lee Byrd, age 87, of Greenhorn Road, Roaring River, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Ms. Byrd was born on July 18, 1915, in Wilkes County to Thomas Franklin and Annie Rebecca Tharpe Byrd.
Ms. Byrd was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Byrd.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas Hood Byrd, of the home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kent Wood and Rev. Kenneth Jordan. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Jerry M. Swaim
Mr. Jerry M. Swaim, 62, of Kernersville, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Swaim was born on August 18, 1940, in Iredell County to Richard Wesley and Maggie Sprinkle Swaim. He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees. He was the current treasurer of the J.C. Grose Sunday school class.
He retired from Stroh’s Brewing Company after 23 years of service as assistant plant controller. He was a graduate of Guilford College. He also was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served as a Marine Security Guard at the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy F. Swaim, of the home; one son, Jeffrey M. Swaim, and wife, Renee, of Concord; one daughter, Juli Fitzgerald, and husband, Curt, of Kernersville; his mother, Maggie Swaim, of Yadkinville; two brothers, Roger Swaim and wife, Lucy, of Hamptonville and Ricky Swaim and wife, Barbara, of Yadkinville; two grandchildren, Makayla Swaim and Jeffrey N. Swaim; and two very special aunts, Mary Lee Swaim and Janette Stoneman.
The family received friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel, Kernersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church General Endowment Fund, 306 S. Main St., Kernersville, N.C., 27284.

Hallie Cheek Gilley
Mrs. Hallie Cheek Gilley, 82, of Swan Creek Road, Jonesville, passed away Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home.
She was born May 2, 1920, in Wilkes County to the late Thomas Clinton and Mary Belle Osborne Cheek.
Mrs. Gilley was a faithful loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She was a faithful member of Swan Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed her Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Danny Ray Gilley; six brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel L. Gilley; four children, Brenda (Larry) Byrd, Lewisville; Linda (Jim) Bone, Asheboro; Tommy (Karen) Gilley, Pfafftown; Steve (Sue) Gilley, Wayne, Michigan; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Swan Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Tim White and Rev. Frank Casstevens. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Surry/Yadkin County, 1326 North Main Street, Elkin, N.C. 28621.
Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the family.

Janet Elaine Wingler
Mrs. Janet Elaine Wingler, age 47, of Beaumont Poplar Street, North Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wingler was born Aug. 3, 1956, in Surry County to William David and Annie Lee Holloway Tharpe.
Mrs. Wingler was retired from Lowe’s Companies and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. Janet was a 1974 graduate of East Wilkes High School where she was the class Valedictorian and she was a member of the "Who’s Who in Junior Community Colleges."
She is survived by her husband, Douglas L. Wingler of the home; her father and mother, William David and Annie Lee Tharpe of Ronda; a sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Harley Settle of Roaring Gap; a nephew, David Lawrence Settle and his wife, Diane; a niece, Amanda Grai Settle and her husband Jon; two greatnieces, Courtney Settle and Trinity Settle.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wingler will be Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hays by Rev. Julius Blevins, Rev. Sam Childs, Rev. Bill Pardue and Rev. Joel Blevins. Burial will follow at Mountlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Wingler will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family received friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

John Leonard Bray
Mr. John Leonard Bray, Jr., 79, of Olin, passed away, Wednesday, Oct, 1, 2003, at Yadkin Nursing Center.
He was born Jan. 25, 1924, to the late John Sr. and Lela Finney Bray.
Mr. Bray was retired as a supervisor of the Flue-Cured Tobacco Stabilization Coop. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, was a Navy veteran who served in WWII, and a member of the American Legion Post. Mr. Bray also served as a tobacco auctioneer and businessman. After he retired he enjoyed his cattle farm and raising his Angus cattle.
In addtion to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Holland Bray on Sept. 9, 1994; one son, Joel Leonard Bray in July 1967; and three sisters, Alma Haynes, Edna Reece and Ruby Canipe; three brothers, Raymond Bray, Dick Bray and Charles Bray.
Survivors include his son, Eric (Sharon) Bray of Jonesville; grandchildren Austin and Dillon Bray; a sister, Melissa Paulson, of Elkin; a special friend, Edith Holland of Olin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr, Bray will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Jonesville United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. by Rev. Cynthia Arnold and Rev. Spencer King. Mr. Bray will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Olin United Methodist Church in Olin.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mountain Road in Jonesville.

Frances Elizabeth Reavis
Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Harmon Reavis, 85, of Yadkinville died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Reavis was born August 8, 1919, in Greenwood, S.C. to Hiram Talmadge “Tal” and Pearlie Mae Jackson St., Yadkinville. The Reavis family would like to express their appreciation for the professional and loving care shown to our mother by Hugh Chatham and Hoots memorial hospitals and their entire staffs. Also the Reavis Family wishes to encourage the residents of Yadkin County to use and support the excellent services of our local hospital, Hoots Memorial. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Ann Evans and staff of Foothills Family Practice.
