Clifford Opperude, 84, Minot, formerly of Ambrose, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in a Garrison nursing home. Funeral services were held May 11 at Thomas Family Funeral Home with interment in Rosehill Memorial Park, both Minot.

Bernie Van Iverson, 69, Amenia, formerly of the Columbus-Lignite area, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo. Funeral services were held June 10 at West Funeral Home Chapel, Casselton, with burial in Mabel Lutheran Cemetery, Sutton. Rev. Paula Mehmel officiated.

William B. "Bud" Hanmer, 83, Hibbing, Minn., formerly of Crosby, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at the University Medical Center-Mesabi. Funeral services were held June 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing with Rev. Brian Birk officiating.

Wayne Ralph Opperude, 54, Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Crosby, died June 4, 2000. A private memorial service was held June 10 at the home of Ronald Opperude. Wayne was born in Crosby to Oscar and Lucille Opperude and was raised there.

Curtis Allen Sorbo, 83, former Crosby resident, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 16, in University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery there.

Alice Jacobs, 89, Noonan, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at the Noonan Good Samaritan Center where she had resided since January of 1997. Her funeral mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Noonan, with Rev. Norman Dukart and Rev. Kenneth Wald as celebrants. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.

Florence M. Moore, 97, Crosby, former longtime resident of Westby, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 18, at 1:30 p.m. CDT at the Center with Rev. Ron Dahle officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. MDT at the Westby Cemetery, Westby, Mont. Visitation will be at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Raymond Fenster, 93, died Aug. 12, 2000, at his home in Auburn, Wash. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at White River Presbyterian Church there.

Laura Josephine Fenster, 95, formerly of Lignite, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in a Minot medical center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Noonan, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 8:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.

Wilma Flora Nygaard, 92, former Divide County resident, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in the Kenmare Baptist Home. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.

Milo G. Scherer, 78, formerly of Wildrose, died Sept. 7, 2000, at the University Hospital in Oklahoma City. Services were held Sept. 9 in Oklahoma at Cowley-Krien Chapel with Rev. Randy Chapman officiating. Interment will be in the Wildrose Cemetery.

Russell B. Iverson, 87, a former lifelong farmer in the Larson area who more recently had moved to 800 16th Ave. SE, #51, Minot, died Sunday, November 26, 2000, in a Minot medical center. Funeral services are being held today, November 29, at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus. Rev. Phyllis Scroggins will officiate. Burial rites will be at 3:30 Wednesday at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Glen Ferguson, 90, one of the last railway mail clerks riding Soo Line trains through Crosby, died November 14, 2000, at his home in Apple Valley, Minn. A mass of Christian Burial was held November 17 at Church of the Risen Savior in Apple Valley.

Albinus "Al" Wentz, 70, Rugby, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby. Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Little Flower Catholic Church there with Rev. Augustine Alilonu officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Al was married to Ann Lodahl Hewitt, a former Crosby resident.

Sarah Frances Zimmell, 83, formerly of Crosby and Lignite, more recently of the Noonan Good Samaritan Center, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Crosby. Her funeral mass was held Feb. 27 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Crosby, with Rev. Norman Dukart as celebrant. A prayer service was held Feb. 26 at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Lignite, in the spring.

Maynard C. Paulson, 74, former Ambrose and Fortuna area resident, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital near Sturgis, S.D. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor James B. Olson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Gladys Gilbertson, 83, formerly of rural Larson, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center where she had resided for the past 10 years. Services are tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby.

Alma Anna Tweet Mader, 80, formerly of Columbus and Stanton, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Funeral services were held April 3 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanton, with Rev. Marvin Mutzenberger officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Dennis Lee Wehrman, 59, Fortuna, died of cancer Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, Williston. Funeral services were held April 3 at Faith Lutheran Church in Fortuna. Interment followed at the Fortuna Cemetery.

LeRoy Sorensen, 82, formerly of Grenora, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Plentywood. Funeral services were April 3 at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Grenora. Pastors Scott Chinburg and David Curtright officiated. Cremation followed. Private interment will be in the Grenora cemetery later this summer.

Catherine Dukart, 91, Dickinson, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center there. Funeral mass was April 2 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Norman J. Dukart of Crosby as celebrant.

Beatrice Bervig Wendt, formerly of Alkabo and Fortuna are a died March 27, 2001. Funeral services were held March 31 at Central Lutheran Church in Elk River, Minn. Burial was in Orono Cemetery, Elk RiverAlfred John Bley, 77, Columbus, formerly of rural Portal, died March 28, 2001, at Trinity Hospital in Minot. Recitation of the Rosary was April 1, and Mass of the Christian burial was April 2 at St. John The Baptist Church in Portal. Father Berchmans Konnully was celebrant, and burial followed at the Portal Cemetery.

Arne I. Torgerson, 73, Williston, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Trinity Hospital in Minot. His funeral service was June 18 at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with Rev. Dean Larson and Rev. Joel Westby officiating. Interment was in Hillside Memory Gardens with military rites by the Ross E. French V.F.W. Post #2328.

Bertha Benson, 88, Crosby, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center where she had resided for the past month. Memorial services were held June 19 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Grace Rostad Hinds, 83, Alkabo native and longtime resident of McLean, Va., died March 6, 2001, at Caton Merchant House, an assisted living facility in Manassas, Va.

Julius Halvorson, 87, Crosby, died Tuesday, June 18, 2001, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center. Services will be held Friday, June 22, 2 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Crosby. Rev. Norman Dukart and Rev. Ron Dahle will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.Dorothy Espeseth, 83, Crosby, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center, Williston. Services are pending. Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Christensen, 87, will be buried near the place of his birth in Daneville Township on Saturday. Clarence died at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center Monday, August 6, 2001. His funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby, and the burial will follow at Daneville Lutheran Cemetery near Westby.

Borghild Bervig, 91, who was born and reared in western Divide County, died at Hearthstone Nursing Home in Medford, Oregon, Thursday, June 28, 2001. Following a private memorial service in Moorhead, she was buried in the Hamar Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rothsay, MN.

Ernest Sorlie, 89, a former resident of the Columbus community, died at Post Falls, Idaho, July 19. His body was cremated and a memorial service is pending.

Margaret Howard, 94, a resident of the Crosby Good Samaritan Center for the past seven years and a former resident of the Wildrose community, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at the Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 4, at 3 p.m. at the Alliance Chapel in Wildrose with Rev. Gregg Knopp officiating. Burial followed in the Wildrose Cemetery.

Inez Anderson, 83, Crosby, former longtime rural Alamo resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Crosby. Funeral services were held Nov. 9 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Herman Cemetery, Burg Township.

Sylvia Ellingson Thedin, 82, Fargo, formerly of Alamo, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in a Fargo nursing home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. Burial will be Friday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Herman Cemetery in Burg Township.

Elsie Viola Barden, 89, Minot, formerly of McGregor and Noonan, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at a Minot medical center. Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial was at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Noonan.
