Mildred Marie McFarlane, 77, Towner, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Manor Care Health Services in Minot. Funeral services were held Feb. 15 at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, and burial followed in Union Cemetery. Pastor Charles Johnson officiated. Mildred was the mother of Barb McFarlane of Crosby.

Gene L. Trulson, 71, Crosby, formerly of Grenora, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Crosby. Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Military rites were conducted by the William Perry Makee American Legion Post #75 of Crosby. Burial will take place at a later date.

Borghild N. Gunderson, 88, Minot, a former resident of Burke County, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in a Minot hospital. Her funeral service was held Saturday at Assembly of God Church, Powers Lake, with Rev. Wilfred Roset officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Columbus.

Carl Petersen, 94, Westby, died at his farm home Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002. Funeral services were held August 17 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastors Barb Westhoff and David Curtright officiated. Burial was in Emmaus Cemetery near Westby.

Clinton S. Christianson, 80, Helena, Mont., former Divide County resident, died at his home Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helena with Pastor Douglas R. Vold officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date.

Arne H. Haugen, 86, of Plentywood and Phoenix, formerly of Westby, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood due to complications from pneumonia. A memorial service was held November 9 at the Congregational Church in Plentywood. A memorial service will be held in Phoenix at a later date.

Lloyd W. Christianson, 82, Crosby, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held November 12 at Ambrose Lutheran Church, Ambrose, with Pastor Ron Dahle officiating. Burial followed at Twin Butte Cemetery, rural Colgan, with military rites conducted by the William Perry Makee American Legion Post #75.

Hazel Christina Bergstrom, 95, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, Minn. A family directed memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite.Another memorial service was held Nov. 12 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Mabel Schmidt, 93, former Noonan resident, died October 14, 2002, in Salem, Ore. She had resided at a senior housing and nursing facility, or the past 12 years.

Phyllis (Stageberg) Kwiatkowski, 70, former Westby resident, died Dec. 16, 2002, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Elenor "Ellie" Irene Malnaa, 81, died Jan. 23, 2003, in Glendale, Calif., as the result of a a heart attack. A memorial service will be held later.

Lila Odelia Shambach, 70, Minot, formerly of Noonan, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, in a Minot hospital. Her funeral service was held Feb. 3 at North Hill Baptist Church, Minot.

Hazel T. Nygaard, 84, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. Funeral services were held April 3 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, Williston, with Pastor Morris Kirchhof officiating. Burial was at Rudser Cemetery, rural Zahl.

Sister Eileen Dietz, OSB, of Sacred Heart Monastery, Richardton and former worker at St. Luke’s Hospital in Crosby, died at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck on April 1, 2003. A wake service was held at the monastery chapel April 3 and the funeral Mass was held, April 4. She was buried in the Sacred Heart Monastery cemetery.

Charles Ernest Opperud, 74, Topeka, Kans., died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, of cancer at a Topeka hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Topeka. Burial will at Ambrose at a later date.

Tilda "Tillie" (Kloster) Isaacson, 92, former Crosby area resident, died May 8, 2003, in Bellingham, Wash. Funeral services were held May 13 at Central Lutheran Church with private family burial at Bayview Cemetery.

Gerald Oien, 69, Yuba City, Calif., died at his home May 24. 2003. Cremation has taken place and graveside rites will be at 11 a.m. June 9 at Wildrose Cemetery. Gerald was born and raised in Wildrose.Alice Olson, 90, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Columbus, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center where she had resided for a short time. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, with Lay Pastor Dan Hysjulien officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, south of Columbus.

Rubbena Christina Berosik, 89, who spent her life in this community, died Wed., July 23, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston. Her funeral was held Tuesday at Stakston-Martin Funeral Chapel in Crosby with Rev. Norman Anderson of Williston officiating. Burial followed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Crosby.

Nelsie Kihle, 99, who lived most of her life in the Columbus community, died Wed., July 23, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston. A resident of Williston since 1990, she died less than four months prior to her 100th birthday. Funeral Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. Presiding were Rev. Morris Kirchof and Nelsie’s nephew, Danny Hysjulien. Burial was at Pleasant Priairie Cemetery of rural Larson.

Park Stompro, 80, who was reared in Columbus, died July 12, 2003, in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Cora Herland, 97, who lived most of her life in the Corinth (Alamo) community, died Thursday, July 17, at the Tioga Medical Center. Her funeral was held Friday, July 25, at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby.

Kenneth Gunlock, 90, died July 10, 2003, at his home in Ronan, Mont. Memorial services were held on his 91st birthday at Faith Lutheran Church in Ronan, and the body was cremated.

Pauline H. Fagerland, 76, formerly Crosby, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in a Minot nursing home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Melvin "Mel" Strand, 86, Crosby, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating.

Elvin Lee, 87, Williston, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Williston.

Vilgard Irene Sorgen, 94, former Crosby resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead. Her funeral service was held Nov. 8 in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, both Moorhead.

Kenneth James Ostroot, 89, Brookings, S.D., former Crosby resident, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at Ascension Lutheran Church with burial and military rites at First Lutheran Cemetery, both Brookings.

Selmer E. Johnson, 81, Concordia, Kansas, formerly of Crosby, died November 7, 2003. His funeral service was held Nov. 11 at New Horizon Community Church.

Florence Anderson, 86, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood.. Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westby with interment in Westby Cemetery. Pastor Barbara Westhoff officiated.

Hans John Lindseth, 88, Williston, formerly of Wildrose, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Williston. Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial in Riverview Cemetery, both Williston. Father John Guthrie officiated.

Thelma Westby Kurtz, 83, Yorba Linda, Calif., formerly of Crosby, died Dec. 12, 2003, in Fullerton, Calif. Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Interment followed at Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton.

John E. Storseth, 87, Williston, a former Grenora area resident, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Minot. Funeral services were held April 10 at First Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Norm Anderson officiated and burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Ardith Donna Larson, 63, Warren, Minn., former Crosby resident, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with interment at Calvary Cemetery, both Warren.

Eloise Bergt, 85, Williston, former Wildrose area resident, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Home. Rev. Betty Czubay will officiate and interment will be in Bethel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, southwest of Wildrose.

Sophia Wenstad, 97, Crosby, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center where she had resided since May of 1996. Funeral services were held June 11 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Crosby, with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Shirley Joan Pedersen, 75, Bismarck, former Grenora area resident, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Medcenter One. Services will be held today, June 16, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Harvey M. Jacobson, 68, Williston, former Crosby area resident, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, in the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, Mont. His funeral was held Oct. 1 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston. Rev. Lee Herberg officiated. Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors.

Alfred Moe, 93, Williston, former Divide County resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston. His funeral was held Oct. 2 at the Chapel at Bethel Lutheran Home. Rev. Betty Czubay officiated and interment followed in Twin Butte Cemetery in Divide County.

Harold B. Lee, 92, Greeley, Colo., former Divide County resident, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley. A memorial service will be held today, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Bonell Good Samaritan Center chapel. Cremation has been conducted and inurnment will be at a later date.

Leif Lundby, 92, Williston, formerly of Grenora, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston. Funeral services were held Jan. 29 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Grenora, with Rev. Betty Czubay officiating. Burial was in Grenora Cemetery.

Valerie Ann Burtman, 33, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at her home at the State Development Center in Grafton, from complications of pneumonia. A memorial service is pending and will be held at the chapel on the campus of the State Development Center, Grafton. Cremation has taken place.

Lt. Col. Arthur H. Lahlum, 87, former Colgan area resident, died Dec. 30, 2004, at his military retirement home in Riverside, Calif., where he had lived since his wife died about 10 years ago.
