John G. Shelton, 46, son of Frances (Tiny Ryan) Brown of Spokane, WA died April 14, 2000 at his home in Spokane. He was born Oct. 31, 1953 at Albany, NY. He served four years in the Army in Germany. Later he worked as a self-employed auto mechanic. A memorial prayer service was held April 19, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spokane. Cremated interment will be in St. Philip Neri Catholic cemetery of Napoleon.

Keith L. Shafer
Keith L. Shafer, 50, Glen Ullin, died April 23, 2000 in his home. The funeral was April 26 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Glen Ullin. Keith was born Nov. 5, 1949 at Bismarck, son of Russell and Okley (Witham) Shafer. He was raised on the family farm and attended elementary school in Tell Township near Kintyre. He graduated from Napoleon High School.

Ella Weispfenning
Ella Weispfenning, 69, West Fargo, died April 25, 2000, at Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo. Ella Fuchs was born May 13, 1930 at Fredonia, where she grew up and attended schools. She moved to Jamestown in 1945. She married Clarence Weispfenning June 13, 1948 at Fredonia.

Ernest Grenz
Ernest Grenz was born to Fred and Christina (Schnaidt) Grenz, Sr. at the family farm, Napoleon on May 11, 1913. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines and remained on active duty for six years and four months.

Mathilda Dockter
Mathilda Dockter, 105, Streeter, died late Thursday evening, March 29, 2001 at the Ashley Medical Center. Mathilda Schlenker was born July 31, 1895 at Klositz Bessarabia, South Russia, the daughter of John and Christina (Schlag) Schlenker. In 1902 at the age of 7 she came to the United States with her parents, seven brothers and sisters. The two youngest children became ill and passed away in New York. The family settled in the Gackle area where she attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education. She and August M. Dockter were married Jan. 19, 1915 at the Neudorf Lutheran Church west of Gackle. They made their home on his parents farm for a number of years. In 1953 they moved into Streeter for their retirement and following the death of her husband January 7, 1954, she continued to reside in Streeter.

Milton Vossler
Milton Vossler, 71, Wishek, died March 28, 2001 at his home. Milton Jacob Vossler was born Dec. 13, 1929 in Zeeland, the son of Jacob and Eva (Becker) Vossler. At a young age both his parents passed away and he and his brother moved to Wishek with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs, Christ Vossler.

Hulda Schlenker
Hulda Schlenker, 87, Jamestown, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Jamestown Hospital. Hulda Muller was born March 28, 1914 in Neudorf Township near Gackle, the daughter of Jacob and Kathrina (Adam) Muller. She and Edward Schlenker were married March 19, 1936 at Gackle. They began farming 4 miles southwest of Gackle, then moved to a farm three miles south of Gackle until 1947 when they moved into Gackle. In 1949 they moved to a farm 6 miles northwest of Gackle until they retired in 1971 and moved back into Gackle.

Mary Lou Rader
The funeral for Mary Lou "Sissy" Rader of Wahpeton was Thursday, March 29 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Burial was at Napoleon City Cemetery. Mary Lou, 62 passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. Mary Lou Rader, daughter of Harold E. and Magdalena (Gunsch) Rader was born December 25, 1938 at Stevensville, MT. As a young girl, she lived in the Seattle, WA area until 1945 when she moved with her family to Napoleon. Mary Lou grew up there and remained with her family due to illness. In 1978 she moved with her parents to the Wishek Nursing Home, where she lived until 1986.

Clarence Krein
Funeral services for Clarence Krein, 77, Wishek, were held March 28 at the United Church of Christ, Wishek. He died March 25, 2001 at the Wishek Home for the Aged. Clarence was born May 20, 1923, the son of Ferdinand and Magdalena (Vossler) Krein. He married Erma I. Sayler on June 15, 1947. In 1948 they moved to a farm 11 miles southwest of Wishek where they lived until 1984, when they semi-retired.

William Fetch
William Fetch, 86, of Beulah, died March 31, 2001 at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Services will be held April 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beulah. William Fetch was born August 16, 1914 on a farm south of Beulah, the son of Michale and Katherina (Heier) Fetch. He married Barbara Jacob on Nov. 7, 1938, at Napoleon. The couple farmed south of Beulah until retiring from farming in 1976.

Faith N. Aberle
Faith N. Aberle, infant daughter of Ronald and Melissa Aberle, LaMoure, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Faith M. Aberle was born July 16, 2000 in Oakes. She is survived by her parents; grandparents, Scott and Cheryl Ellis, LaMoure, Angie (Brian) Monsebrotten, Grand Forks, John (Ardis) Aberle Jr., LaMoure, great grandparents, Norman and Virginia Ellis, LaMoure, Arnold and Opel Nelson, Lisbon, Ann Zimmerman, Gackle, Ed Holmstrom, LaMoure; and her great-great grandmother, Saddie Holmstrom, Gackle.

Ernest Johnson
Ernest "Mike" Johnson, 75, Steele, died July 15, 2001 at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele. Mike was born Feb. 4, 1926 at Kintyre, the son of Stewart and Anna Johnson. He grew up and attended rural school near Kintyre. He served in the U.S. Army and after his discharge he farmed with his brothers south of Kintyre until he met Vivian Remme. He and Vivian were married and settled on a farm east of Kintyre until 1957 when they purchased a farm 10 miles south of Steele. They farmed there until 1974 when arthritis forced Mike to retire from the farm and move to Steele.

Rick A. Kaseman, 52, Lakota, died March 8, 2002 at his home in Lakota. Rick was born Dec. 1. 1949 at Bismarck, the son of Adam and Lorraine (Meidinger) Kaseman. He received his elementary education and graduated from Kulm High School in 1967.

Leonard Poykko
Leonard Poykko, 83, Gackle, died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Leonard Poykko was born March 18, 1918 at Gackle, the son of Charlie and Leena (Karjalainen) Poykko.

Cecilia Skars
Cecilia Draeger Skars, 72, died May 18, 2002 in Mbeya, Tanzania, East Africa where she was doing missionary work with Grace Ministries International of Grand Rapids, MI. Cecilia was born to Pete and Dorothy (Hauck) Draeger near Burnstad on July 20, 1929.

Marie Strobel, 61, Napoleon Care Center, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at the SCCI Hospital in Mandan. Marie Gohner was born Sept. 13, 1940 in LaMoure County near Jud, the daughter of John and Amelia (Suko) Gohner. She and Clarence Seefried were married May 3, 1970 at Alfred.

Alfred Mickelson
Alfred Mickelson of Oregon City, OR passed away July 25, 2002 after suffering a massive stroke. He was married to Della Bruns and they were former Burnstad residents.

Herdis Svanes
Herdis Svanes, 87, Steele, died July 29, 2002 in a Bismarck hospital. Herdis Svanes was born May 8, 1915 at Sandnes Norway to Lars K. and Martha J. (Knudson) Larsen. She was raised and educated in Norway. Herdis was married to Olaf H. Svanes on May 4, 1940.

Delmar "Gene" Graf, age 75, Fargo, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at MeritCare Hopsital in Fargo. Gene was born October 19, 1927 in Dawson, the son of Fredrick and Anna (Hoffer) Graf. He grew up and attended school in Napoleon.

Esther M. Graf
Esther M. Graf, 85, Streeter, died Mon., Oct. 6, 2003 at a Bismarck hospital. Esther was born on Feb 19, 1918 at Streeter, the daughter of Andrew and Sophia (Brunner) Perman. She was raised and educated in Streeter. On April 24, 1938 Esther married Theodore 'Ted' Graf in Streeter.

William "Bill" Graf
William G. "Bill" Graf, 71, Streeter, died Mon., Oct. 18, 2004 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. The funeral was Saturday at the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Streeter. Bill was born January 1, 1932 the son of John and Selma (Rittershaus) Graf. He attended the Streeter Public School and graduated from Streeter High School in 1951. He and Esther Remmich were married April 12, 1953 at Streeter.

Ida P. Elhard
The funeral for Ida P. Elhard, 100, Kulm was Mon., Oct. 25, 2004 at the Kulm Congregational Church. Burial was at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery. Ida died Wed., Oct. 20, 2004 at the Wishek Home for the Aged. Ida P. Heller, daughter of Samuel and Katherine (Gumke) Heller was born October 14, 1904 near Gackle where she grew up and attended school. Ida was united in marriage to Albert Elhard on January 19, 1928.

Herbert E. Just, 88, Wishek, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Wishek Community Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Mr. Just was born March 26, 1916, at rural Wishek, the son of Christof and Emma (Thurn) Just. He grew up in the Wishek area where he also attended country school. He lived and worked in Montana and in the Berlin, N.D. area before returning to Wishek. He married Eva Sayler on Jan. 28, 1940, at St. James Lutheran Church near Wishek.

Ottelia Just
Ottelia Just, 99, Wishek, died Dec. 9, 2003 in the Wishek Hospital. Ottelia Eckman was born May 10, 1904 near Wishek. ON July 31, 1924 she married Jacob Just. They farmed near Wishek until 1966 when they moved into Wishek.

Wesley Ost, 75, Jamestown, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 at his home. Services were Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. Mr. Ost was born June 22, 1929 in Fredonia, the son of Oscar Sr. and Pauline (Becker) Ost. He grew up and received his education in Fredonia. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps on Nov. 15, 1951 and was discharged Nov. 14, 1959. He married Betty Batsch on June 12, 1968, in Jamestown.

Willis Ost
Willis Ost, 69, Jamestown, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at Wishek Hospital. Services were Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown. Mr. Ost was born Feb. 19, 1935 on the family farm near Fredonia, the son of Oscar Sr. and Pauline (Becker) Ost. He attended rural school and worked on the family farm until 1974 when he moved to Jamestown where he worked for Evertts Construction (now Border States).

Gust Dorr
Gust Dorr, 82 of Everett, WA died at his home on Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 Gust was born in Gackle on October 19, 1920. He resided in the Gackle area until the fall of 1965 when he and his family moved to Everett, WA.

Margaret Hummel
Margaret B. Hummel, 85, Gackle, died Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Jamestown Hospital. Margaret Sinclair was born Sept. 17, 1917 south of Cleveland, the daughter of Jonathan and Grace (Carrell) Sinclair. She attended school at Cleveland, and later at Gackle, graduating from Gackle High School. She and Alvin Hummel were married Nov. 9, 1939 at Gackle.

Patricia Gumke Patricia Bosch-Gumke, 39, Jud, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 as a result of a car accident. Patricia Ann Bosch was born August 31, 1963 at Bismarck, the daughter of Joe and Alvina (Franck) Bosch. She lived in Hazelton with her parents until moving to Streeter in 1970 where she attended Streeter Public School and graduated from Streeter High School in 1981.

Esther Christman
Esther Christman, 84, Napoleon, died Tues., Dec. 10, 2002 at the Napoleon Care Center. Esther Becker, the daughter of August A. and Christina (Ketterling) Becker, was born May 7, 1918 on the family farm near Napoleon. She grew up near Napoleon and attended Napoleon Public Schools. On May 5, 1938, she married Edwin Christman at Napoleon.

Marlyn C. Parkos
Marlyn C. Parkos, 77 of Napoleon, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Napoleon with Rev. Ronn Wilke officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Napoleon and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

H.A. Hoffman
H.A. Hoffman, 103, long time Logan County resident, died Feb. 1, 2003 in Redlands, CA. Adam Henry Hoffman was born to Gustav and Julianna Hoffman on May 26, 1899 in a settler's farmhouse in Foster County, Carrington. His parents, of German heritage, had immigrated to the 'New World' in 1895 from Vlotslavic Gubernia, Poland, an area known as East Prussia.

Wallace Kinzler
Wallace William Kinzler, 65, rural Jamestown, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Jamestown Hospital from a heart attack. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown. Burial is in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, in the spring. Mr. Kinzler was born Jan. 3., 1938 on a farm north of Fredonia in Logan County, the son of Albert and Ida (Suko) Kinzler. He attended country school until his family purchased a farm northeast of Gackle. He then attended school in Gackle, graduating from Gackle High School in 1955.

Gotthilf Zimmerman
Gotthilf Zimmerman, 92, Ashley, died Thurs., Feb. 20, 2003 in the Ashley Nursing Home. Mr. Zimmerman was born Jan. 24, 1911, near Lehr where he grew up and attended school. He worked on the family farm. In the 1930s he worked at a hardware store in Danzig. On June 16, 1935, he married Lydia Schock in Lehr.

Edwin Kautz
Edwin Kautz, 91, Wishek, died Feb. 17, 2003 at a Wishek Nursing Home. Edwin Kautz was born Jan. 18, 1912 at the family farm northeast of Wishek, the son of Friedrick and Pauline (Jahraus) Kautz. He received his elementary education at the local rural school, worked for area farmers and grew to manhood in the vicinity. He and Ida Will were married Aug. 23, 1936, at the Baptist Church northeast of Wishek.

Leo A. Johs
Leo A. Johs, age 70, Napoleon, died Thurs., Dec. 11, 2003 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Leo A. Johs, the son of Andrew and Mary Ann (Schmidt) Johs, was born November 22, 1933 at Napoleon. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Napoleon area.

Olga Meyer
Mrs. Olga Meyer, 94, Gackle, died Fri., Dec. 12, 2003 at Jamestown. Ogla Gumke was born December 11, 1909 at Gackle, the daughter of John M. and Caroline (Knodel) Gumke. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm. She and George Meyer were married March 24, 1928 at Jud.

LoRee Entzi
LoRee Ann Entzi, 34, Fredonia, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Ashley Medical Center. LoRee Ann Entzi was born Oct. 13, 1969, in Fargo, the daughter of Greg and Tresia (Davis) Entzi. She graduated from Lehr High School in 1988.

Leon Olson
Leon E. Olson, 78, Jamestown, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown, under the care of hospice. Mr. Olson was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Streeter, the son of John and Caroline (Rue) Olson. He grew up and attended country school in Streeter.

Alida Remboldt
Alida Remboldt, 93, Gackle, died April 22, 2004 at her granddaughter's home near Streeter. Alida Zenker was born January 29, 1911 near Gackle, the daughter of Wilhelm Sr. and Fredericka (Klipfel) Zenker. She received her elementary education in the local rural school. She and Emanuel (Pete) Remboldt were married June 1, 1930 at the Neudorf Lutheran Church, SW of Gackle. They farmed NW of Gackle until 1940 when they bought the International Implement Dealership from George Hummel.

Thomas W. Schneider
Thomas Wendelin Schneider, 96, died May 8, 2004, in Bismarck. Thomas was born Dec. 15, 1907 in Napoleon, the son of Anton and Magdalena (Burkhardt) Schneider, who were German colonists from Russia. He married Elizabeth Schmidt on October 6, 1930 in Burnstad.

Edna Schuler
Edna G. Schuler, 86, Bismarck, formerly of Streeter, died May 8, 2004 in a Bismarck care center. Edna was born Jan. 14, 1918 in Buffalo, NY to William and Sarah (Kester) Walter. She married Benjamin Schuler on November 24, 1945, in Buffalo. They moved to Streeter where they farmed. Edna was very involved in the farming operations with her husband.

Lydia Sukut
Lydia Sukut, 95, Jamestown, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. Lydia Lautt was born Feb. 28, 1909 in McIntosh County near Fredonia, the daughter of George and Carolina (Roesler) Lautt. She attended rural McIntosh County schools and helped on the family farm. She married Edward Sukut Jr. on Dec. 4, 1930, in Fredonia. They farmed in the Fredonia area until 1954.

George Woodbury
George Woodbury, 80, of Fargo, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo. George was born January 29, 1924 at Napoleon, the son of Albert and Alma (Fredrickson) Woodbury. He attended rural school there. He and his brother Edward lived on a farm until 1946 when they moved to the state of Washington.

Anna Brunnmeier
Anna Brunnmeier, 95, Gackle, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown. Anna Stroh was born August 19, 1908 west of Streeter, the daughter of John and Christina (Meidinger) Stroh. She received her elementary education in the local rural school. She and Edwin 'Pete' Brunnmeier were married September 7, 1935 at Aberdeen, SD.

Mary Rosson
Word was received Monday evening that Mary Ann (Bitz) Rosson died Monday, June 21, 2004 at Lodi, CA at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Marquart) Bitz of Lodi, CA, formerly of Napoleon. Bitzes farmed south of Napoleon and later operated a bar in the former Kuhn Law Office building on Main Street in Napoleon.

Sr. M. Petronia Schmaltz
Sister M. Petronia Schmaltz, SSND, died April 26, 2004. She was 86. The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated April 28. Magdalen Schmaltz was born June 15, 1917 on a farm south of Napoleon near the St. Anthony community, the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Heilman) Schmaltz.

Eldo G. Strehle
Eldo G. Strehle, 88, Streeter, died Sat., June 19, 2004, at the St. Alexius Medical Center at Bismarck. Eldo Strehle was born August 15, 1915 at Medina, the son of Emmanuel and Barbara (Oberlander) Strehle. He attended the local rural school near Streeter, where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity. He entered the Civilian Conservation Corps July 4, 1934 and served until March 31, 1936. He was inducted into the United States Army July 21, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the United States and was discharged September 25, 1943 at Camp Claiborne, LA with the rank of PVT 1st Class. He and Esther Veil were married June 13, 1943 at Streeter.

Bernice Beckett
Bernice Beckett, 63, Napoleon, died Oct. 3, 2004, at a Bismarck medical center. Arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Maria Dallman
Maria Dallmann, 90, Edgeley, died Sat., Sept. 25, 2004 at Bethany Homes, Fargo. Maria Eldina Kapp was born May 4, 1914 at Napoleon, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Kapp) Kapp. Maria was raised on the family farm and attended country school near Napoleon. She married David Hottman in 1939 and he died in 1943. They were the parents of 4 children, Virgil, Marjorie, Dieana and David. She married Otto Dallmann in 1947.

Albert Krieger
Albert Krieger, 84, Gackle died Wednesday, September 29, 2004. Albert was born February 8, 1920 in Gackle, the son of John and Maria (Kleinknecht) Krieger. He later graduated from LaSalle University of Chicago, IL and received his BA in finance and commerce. He entered the US Army June 22, 1942 at Ft. Snelling, MN, served for 3 years and was honorably discharged December 19, 1945 with the rank of SGT. After he returned home, he started his career as a banker at the First State Bank of Gackle in 1946. He and his brother Fred started the Krieger Theatre in Gackle in 1946, where he owned and operated it.

Felix "Phil" Schneider
Felix "Phil" Schneider died August 29, 2004, at his home in East Haven, CT. Phil was born in Napoleon, one of 13 children of the late John and Barbara (Fischer) Schneider.

Donald D. Werth, 60, Fargo died at Lehr on Sunday, September 26, 2004. Don was born to Sam and Lydia (Miller) Werth on July 29, 1944 in Kulm. He graduated from Lehr High School in 1962 and attended Dakota Business College in Fargo.

Pauline Beglau
Pauline Beglau, 98, Jamestown, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 in the funeral home of Gackle. Pauline Remboldt was born Aug. 28, 1906, daughter of John and Justine (Lang) Remboldt near Gackle, where she grew up and attended school. She later attended Sheyenne River Academy, Harvey. On Nov. 5, 1928 she married Gotthilf Beglau in Jamestown.

Elizabeth Hilsendeger, 83, died Feb. 4, 2005, at a Mandan hospital. Elizabeth Feigert was born June 20, 1911 in Streeter, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine Feigert. She was raised and educated in Streeter. Elizabeth married Pete Hilsendeger on Sept. 19, 1943 in Steele.

Tillie Kaufman
Tillie Kaufman, 88, Jamestown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City. Tillie Kauk was born Nov. 21, 1916 in Zeeland, the daughter of Peter and Margaretha (Schleichenmeyer) Kauk. She attended school in the Lehr area. She moved to Jamestown in 1938. Bertha Rieger
Bertha Rieger, 100, Wishek, died Jan. 31, 2005, at a Wishek nursing home. Bertha Rieger, daughter of Fredrick and Christina (Werner) Sayler, was born in Logan County Feb. 29, 1904. She lived and worked on the family farm and graduated from the eighth grade, where school was held for a time on her parents' farm in the summer kitchen. Later she went to Hebron to visit a sister, where she taught a country school for a short time. There she met Henry Sayler, married Henry on Feb. 18, 1925 in Napoleon.

Rudolph Ruff
Rudolph Ruff, 93, Jamestown, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Mr. Ruff was born Sept. 3, 1911, west of Fredonia in Logan County, the son of Fred and Bertha (Karius) Ruff. He attended the local rural school, grew up in the area and helped on the family farm. He married Esther Krueger on July 15, 1935 in Lehr. In 1934 he purchased a store at Guyson, ND. He was postmaster from 1934 to 1947, when they moved to Fredonia. He worked at Economy Store and other places. He was a rural mail carrier from 1950 until he retired in 1969.
