Donald Weyrauch, 80 of Tenino, WA formerly of Ray passed away on Oct. 15. He had M.S. for 50 years and accepted it with patience. He was a kind, gentle man and kept his mind and hands busy braiding baskets. Among area survivors is a brother Harvey of Ray.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, April 21, 2004, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Ray at 10:30 a.m. by Father Johnson Kuriappilly. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Ray. A Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s. Friends may call Wednesday for the hour preceding the service.

Orlin Raad
1928 - 2004
Orlin Raad, 76, a longtime Ray, ND resident, lately of Sidney, MT, passed away Thursday evening, October 7, 2004, in the Extended Care Facility at the Sidney Health Center. His funeral was celebrated Tuesday morning, October 12, 2004 at the Ray Lutheran Church. Rev. Steve Anderson officiated and interment followed in Rainbow Valley Churchyard Cemetery. Orlin G. Raad was born June 23, 1928 to Arne and Leona (Hill) Raad on the family farm in Rainbow Township, north of Ray, ND. He later moved with his parents to New Home Township where he attended the New Home School. He farmed with his father until he was inducted into the Army on April 19, 1951. He took basic training at Camp Roberts, CA. After basic training he served in Korea from November 3rd until he was discharged on January 16, 1953. He served primarily as a forward observer. After his discharge he was transferred to Ready Reserve for five years on active status. Orlin returned to Ray and went to work in the oi field in 1954 for Hunt Oil. Then in 1958 he transferred to Amerada Hess where he was employed for twenty-eight years until his retirement on April 1, 1985. From 1985 until 2001 he worked for the Ray Park Board until ill health forced his retirement. On August 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mildred Barman Flaten in St. Paul"s Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV. They established their home in Ray where they raised their family. For many years Orlin served on the church council at Ray Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Ray Fire Department and a life member of the North Dakota Fireman’s Assoc. He also served on the Ray school board, and was currently a member of the American Legion, William E. Smith Post #9. He enjoyed gardening. For many years Orlin had a good time fishing with his son. Orlin is survived by his son, Blaine Raad and wife, Joan, of Fairview, MT; four grandchildren, Bryce Raad of Bismarck, Crystal and Derrick Raad, both of Williston, and Casey Raad of Fairview; numerous great-grandchildren; his sister, Laura Raad of Williston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1997, parents, brother, LeRoy Raad, and stepdaughter, Shirley Jean Biwer in 1990. Everson Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.

Astrid Carlson

Funeral services for Astrid Carlson, 86, of Powers Lake, ND were held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview and interment followed at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Battleview. Pastoral Assistant Jim Hamann officiated. Astrid was born on September 14, 1918 to August and Alma (Olson) Olson at the family farm in Divide County. She was raised on the family farm and educated in rural schools. She attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McGregor where she was baptized and confirmed. Astrid met and married Einer Carlson at Wildrose, ND on December 28, 1943. They established their home on the farm near Battleview where they lived through the many years. Astrid helped Einer run the farm. She continued to live on the farm after Einer died on April 20, 1995. Astrid died of natural causes at her home on Tuesday, October 12, 2004. Astrid and Einer were lifetime members of Bethel Lutheran Church where was she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She and her husband enjoyed company, whist parties, and dances. She and Einer also enjoyed fishing and went on several fishing trips to Canada with friends and family. She is survived by her brother, Arvid Olson and his wife, Elveida, of McGregor, ND; one nephew, Eldon Olson and his wife, Bonnie, and their children, Christopher and Jennifer, of Fargo, ND; one niece, Ardyce Bragg and her husband, Orville, and their children, Lana, Ryan, and Nolan, of Williston, ND; and a number of cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth O. Nelson

Kenneth O. Nelson, 83, of Missoula lost his battle with cancer Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at his home. He was born May 22, 1921, in Tioga ND, the seventh child of Henry and Perta Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Tioga, and his faith in Jesus guided him throughout his life. On Oct. 12, 1948 he married Marian Tancre in Stanley, ND. He farmed for many years in North Dakota and then moved to Eureka, CA to work in the lumber industry. In 1964, the family moved to Missoula, where he worked various jobs until his retirement as a driver for Mountain Line. He took great pleasure in visiting with people, sharing a joke or tale. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Missoula Senior Citizens Center. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Petra Nelson; three sisters, Ruth Riedel, Karen Nelson, and Lillian Nelson; and four brothers, Arnold, Helmer, Aruther and Carl Nelson. Survivors include Marian, his wife of 55 years; his sister, Mabel Carlson of Poway, CA; two sons, Ron Nelson of Billings and Paul Nelson and his wife Kristy of Missoula; two daughters, Colleen Thomas and her husband Ed of Granbury, TX, and Donna Olsen and her husband Roger of Missoula; six grandchildren, Chad Nelson, Jessica Nelson Davis, Brandi Thomas Baca, Niki Thomas Hathcock and Devin, Elizabeth, Megan and Shannon Nelson; as well as numerous sieces, nephews and dear friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Snyder and his staff at Mointana Cancer Specialists, as well as the wonderful nurses at Partner’s Hospice.

Kenneth Orval Hagen born March 9, 1922 at Ambrose ND, son of Olga and Anton Hagen. The former McGregor resident passed away in a Great Falls nursing home in October 2004. Survived by wife Audrey, whom he married April 9,1948. Children include Cheryl, Micheal, Patrick and Kelly and 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Gladys Rose and brother Raymond. He is the nephew of Erling Barmoen of Tioga.

Alvin Skarderud
1939 - 2004
Alvin was born January 16, 1939, in Alamosa CO to Erling and Edna(Willard) Skarderud. He came to North Dakota with his parents and lived in Epping, ND until moving to a farm northwest of Tioga. He was baptized and confirmed Zion Lutheran Chruch in Tioga, ND. He attended Lindahl School and graduated from Tioga High School in 1957. He then took a job with Bell Telephone Co. and different place. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and served until 1963 at Hunter Liggett, CA, then continued his work with Bell, working for over 30 yeas in Garrison, ND. Uncle Al, as he was known to many, loved flying his plane to many places as well as fishing and traveling. He is survived by his mother, Edna; brother, Elroy (Corinne) Skarderud, Lothair, MT; Gary (Nicole) Skarderud, Evans CO; two great-nephews, Kodie and Brady Skarderud; one aunt, Eva Arcand, Epping, ND and several cousins. He was preceded in death by father, Erling.

Doris Chilson

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 3, 2005 for Doris Chilson, 84, of Biwabik, at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. The Rev. Rebecca Wentworth officiated. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. She died Monday, January 31, 2005, in Clayridge Assisted Living Facility in Biwabik. She was born February 14, 1920, in Winger, Minn. to Edward and Anna (Hanson) Holm. She was a 1938 graduate of Fertile High School and later earned her secretarial certificate while studying at home. She married Vic Chilson on September 14, 1946, in Winger and worked as a nurse’s aide in the Crookston Hospital. She also worked as a cook for the Tioga ND school system and as a clerk at S&L Department Store in Crookston. Following their move to Biwabik in 1965, she cooked at the Johnson Nursing Home, Koski Board and Care and the Merritt House in Biwabik. In February 2004 she became a resident of Clayridge. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik and a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels and AARP. Survivors include her son, Harold (Sandra) Chilson of Ely; Daughter, LaVonne (John) Goodman of Biwabik; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vic; and five brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Ervin, Maurice and Manley.
