Marcelene Hitchcock
Holstein resident Marcelene R. (Elliott) Hitchcock, 64, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Beverly Minor officiating. Burial will be in Red Cloud Cemetery.
Mrs. Hitchcock was born Jan. 20, 1933, to Thomas and Gladys (Bartley) Elliott in Webster County. She grew up in the Red Cloud area. She graduated from Cowles High School. On Feb. 11, 1952, she married Harry James Hitchcock. They lived in the Red Cloud area. Her husband died May 24, 1963. She later moved to Hastings where she worked at Hoff Cleaners and Mode O Day. She later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Juniata, Hastings and Grand Island. She retired in January 1995.
Survivors are two sons, Dan of Roseland and Rodney of Holstein; four sisters, Merna Nash of Loveland, Colo., Wilma Falgione of Blue Hill, Joyce Sell of Hastings and Mary Crawford of York; two brothers, Dwayne Elliott of Lincoln and Russell Elliott of Hastings; and one grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Estelle R. Hamp
Former Hastings resident Estelle Ruth (Roberts) Hamp, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, in Colorado Springs.
There were no services. Her remains were donated to the Colorado State Anatomical Board. Colorado Springs Mortuary and Cremation Services of Colorado Springs was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hamp was born in 1913 to James and Irene Roberts in Hastings. She attended Morton Elementary School and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1929. She attended Hastings College where she was a member of the College Choir, editor of the Collegian and editor of the Bronco yearbook. She graduated in 1933 and was runner-up for the Bronco Award. She worked at the Hastings Tribune where she was secretary to Harold Hamil, managing editor. She was secretary for Raymond Watson, high school principal. She also was secretary for the Maxon Construction Co. when the Naval Ammunition Depot was being built. She was awarded the Army/Navy E for Excellence. She moved to Denver where she worked for an advertising agency, law firm and trust department of a bank. She later became a secretary for the State of Colorado Corrections Department where she worked for 16 years. She retired in 1985.
Survivors are one daughter, Allison Stuchlik of Chipita Park, Colo.; one sister, Phyllis Roberts of Kearney; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Memorials may be given to American Lung Association of Colorado, 1600 Race St., Denver, CO 80206.

Beulah M. Myers
Central City resident Beulah Mae Myers, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, in Grand Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home chapel in Grand Island. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Survivors are five sons; four daughters, including Ruth A. Hilligas of Inland; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Linda Gardner
Former Clay County resident Linda (Ham) Gardner, 49, of Soquel, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, in Soquel after a two-year bout with cancer.
Memorial services were Jan. 28 at Coastlands in Aptos, Calif. Oakwood Memorial Chapel of Santa Cruz, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gardner was born Sept. 16, 1947, to Clyde H. and Lydia (Bader) Ham in Saronville. She graduated from Sutton High School. While in high school, she attended a beauty school in Hastings. She moved to California 32 years ago. She worked as a cosmetologist while earning a political science degree from California State University in Fresno, Calif. She taught for a short time. In 1973 she married Don Gardner. They moved to San Jose, Calif. She worked for Santa Clara County where she retired as a county probation officer. She also was corporate secretary-treasurer of Bay Hydraulics, her husband's company.
She was a member of Aptos United Methodist Church and its choir.
Survivors are her husband; three children, Vickie Gardner Brown of San Jose and Lauren Gardner and Cameron Gardner, both of Soquel; one brother, Gordon Ham of Denver; two sisters, Gail Matthews of Lincoln and Corinne Stone of Tehachapi, Calif.; and her mother of Soquel.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Santa Cruz or the Gardner Children Educational Fund at Coast Commercial Bank, 1975 Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz, CA 95065.

Carl Z. Owen
Rural Webber, Kan., resident Carl Z. Owen, 81, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Jon Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery south of Hardy. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Owen was born July 25, 1915, to Hershel Leroy and Jennie (Briggs) Owen near Miltonvale, Kan. He grew up in Miltonvale and attended school there. He moved to Webber at the age of 18. He farmed in the Stover area for 58 years. On Feb. 13, 1937, he married Wilma Fay Powell.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mary Louise Owen of Webber; nine sisters, Dorothy Crist and Reva Chaput, both of Minneapolis, Kan., Hazel Chaput of Corvallis, Ore., Grace Patenaude of Miltonvale, Gladys Murray and LaDoma Peterson, both of Concordia, Kan., Clara Stringham of Lost Springs, Wyo., Phyllis Morgoson of Denver, and Joan Adair of Topeka, Kan.; and one brother, Harold Owen of Republic, Kan.
Memorials may be sent to the family at Rural Route 1, Box 38, Webber, KS 66970.

Delbert L. Rothchild
Mankato, Kan., resident Delbert L. Rothchild, 82, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, in Mankato.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Webber United Methodist Church in Webber, Kan., with the Revs. Linda Willey and Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Webber Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior. The family will be present from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Rothchild was born Jan. 14, 1915, to Emmett Silvanus and Olive Ruth (Stansbury) Rothchild on a farm near Montrose, Kan. He attended school at Pavonia in Jewell County. He later attended Rose Hill near Lovewell Lake. On Dec. 6, 1937, he married Carrie Elizabeth Wyatt in Belleville, Kan. He farmed for a time before moving to Seattle where he worked in the shipyards. He later returned to Jewell County. He lived in Webber and worked for the railroad. In 1945 he moved to a farm west of Lovewell. He also worked at Ideal Cement Co. in Superior until a heart attack forced him to retire in 1976 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Webber Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Shirley Crane of Superior and Jana Tuxhorn of Columbus; five sons, Dennis of Dodge City, Kan., Daryle of Monett, Mo., Delmer of Downs, Kan., Doyle of Mankato and Marlin of Aurora; three brothers, Gaylord of Formoso, Kan., Dale of Mankato and Norman of Denver; two sisters, Doris Godsey of Seattle, Wash., and Noami Kerl of Pawnee City; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, two of which were infants, and an infant grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Estelle Ruthntamp

Pearl E. Rightmeier
Mankato, Kan., resident Pearl E. (Miller) Rightmeier, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Mankato.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melby Mortuary chapel in Mankato with the Rev. Daniel Trickey officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Montrose, Kan., near Mankato. Visitation is today and Wednesday prior to services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rightmeier was born Sept. 13, 1911, to Charles H. and Clara Bell (Hoag) Miller in Ionia, Kan. On July 21, 1933, she married Lyman Rightmeier in Concordia, Kan. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of World Wide Church of God and Montrose Community Club.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Charles of Topeka, Kan.; two daughters, Joyce Hancock of Wichita, Kan., and Theresa Terry of Salina, Kan.; three sisters, Lois Thronson of Mankato, Opal Lyman of Mesa, Ariz., and Mary Crumrine of Apache Junction, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Lupus Foundation or Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care Unit.

Lyle Andy Anderson
Former Hastings resident Lyle "Andy" Anderson, 68, of Vicksburg, Miss., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
Memorial services were Sunday at Porters Chapel United Methodist Church in Vicksburg with the Rev. Jimmy Dabbs officiating. Fisher-Rites Funeral Home of Vicksburg was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Anderson was born in Marvin, S.D., to Ray and Charlotte Anderson. In 1942 he moved to Nebraska where he worked for Hastings Gas Co. In 1961 he moved to Mississippi. He worked at Dixie Farms in Satartia, Miss. In 1963 he worked for Auto Supply Co. in Vicksburg. He retired from Genuine Parts Co. Inc.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle; four sons, Ron Anderson of Vicksburg, Mickey of Pearl, Miss., Archie of Meridian, Miss., and Steve of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie Murray of Meadville, Miss., and Pam Anderson of Kaneohe, Hawaii; two sisters, Florence Owens of Harvard and Fern Tomjack of Hastings; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Porters Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Warren County Children's Shelter.

Marvin L. Davis
Hastings resident Marvin LeRoy Davis, 68, of 711 N. Williams Ave. died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Barbara Spangler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis was born Nov. 6, 1928, to LeRoy and Iva (Tuttle) Davis in Holcomb, Mo. He grew up near Kennett, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948-55. He received the Bronze Star. On June 22, 1952, he married Patsy Moore. In 1955 he moved to Adams County from Kennett. He lived in Pauline and Hastings. He was a flight instructor at Hastings Airport for many years before starting Marv Davis Aerial Spraying and Charter.
He was a member of the VFW.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Jerry and Michael, both of Hastings; two daughters, Mary Giesler and Connie Adams, both of Hastings; one sister, Velma Price of Blue Hill; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Harold W. Monson
Former Saronville resident Harold William Monson, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at Lakeview Rehab and Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Howard Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Saron Lutheran Cemetery at Saronville. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Mr. Monson was born March 23, 1908, to John A. and Hattie (Holmquist) Monson in Saronville. He grew up in the Saronville area. He attended School District 9 in Clay County. He farmed in the Saronville area. On Feb. 20, 1938, he married Vera M. Ulmer in Sutton. They lived in Saronville. In 1964 they moved to Lincoln. He was a custodian at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for several years. In 1966 he and his wife moved to Grand Island. He was a custodian at the Nebraska Veterans Home until 1973. He then was a custodian at Mid-Nebraska Mental Retardation Services for 14 years. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Mervyn H. of Grand Island; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three infant daughters, five brothers and three sisters.

Jack C. Burchess

Hastings resident Jack C. Burchess, 72, of 1332 Pepperidge Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Hazel C. Craig
Minden resident Hazel C. (Oman) Craig, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Revs. Ed Treat and John Minert officiating. Graveside services are 3 p.m. at Gaslin Cemetery near Brady with the Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Friday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Craig was born Sept. 2, 1915, to Elmer and Anna (Isackson) Oman in Brady. She grew up in the Brady area. She graduated from Gothenburg High School. On Feb. 26, 1936, she married Robert Craig in North Platte. They farmed and ranched north of Brady for 41 years. In 1977 they moved to Minden. She was a bookkeeper and in charge of greeting cards at the Ben Franklin Store for many years. Her husband died in 1996.
She was a member of Brady United Methodist Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Jan Egenberger of Minden and LaVae Fattig of Lincoln; one sister, Elsie Keller of Phoenix; one brother, Franklin Oman of North Platte; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Brady Methodist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden or Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Craig rites
Services for Minden resident Hazel Craig, 81, who died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Ed Treat officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Gaslin Cemetery near Brady. Layton Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of arrangements.

William Saxton
Harvard resident William Saxton, 68, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services and burial will be in Bidwell, Ohio. Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home of Harvard is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Saxton was born July 18, 1928, to Clem David and Muriel Mae (Fee) Saxton in Bidwell.
Survivors are one sister, Marilyn Himes of Ohio; and one brother, Ed of Ohio.

Karla E. Meiner
Upland resident Karla E. (Hansen) Meiner, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Upland United Methodist Church in Upland with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Burial will be in Upland Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Meiner was born June 4, 1906, to P. Chris and Anna (Hansen) Hansen in Upland. She grew up in the Upland area. She graduated from Upland High School in 1923. She attended Kearney Normal School and the University of Oregon. She returned to Nebraska and taught in rural schools, including ZYBA Rural School near Upland. On June 4, 1929, she married Edward A. Meiner in Lincoln. They lived in Upland. Her husband died in 1965.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Upland until it disbanded. She then attended the United Methodist Church in Upland. She was active in the Ladies Aid group of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Marilyn Rafat of Lincoln and Carol Allman of Bellevue; one son, Neil of Upland; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Allen; one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be given to Upland United Methodist Church.

James A. Ord
Greeley, Colo., resident and Guide Rock summer resident James Arthur Ord, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at North Colorado Med Center in Greeley.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Baptist Church in Greeley. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Adamson Mortuary of Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ord was born Feb. 9, 1907, to Elam Henry and Mabel Alice (Hunt) Ord in Hastings, Iowa. He grew up in Hastings, Iowa, and graduated from high school there. He trapped mink in order to put himself through college at South Dakota School of Mines and Colorado School of Mines. He received a degree in geophysical engineering. He worked on a seismograph crew exploring for oil. He also was in real estate. He ranched and farmed in the Greeley area. In his 1970s he went back to school to learn artificial insemination for cattle.
He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church and Southern Baptist Conference board.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, James of Greeley, Jerry of Carson City, Nev., and John of Guide Rock; one daughter, Judith Laing of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Melvin of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister, Venita Rousar of Oak Harbor, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph.
Memorials may be given to Hillside Baptist Mission in care of Adamson Mortuary, 827 Fifth St. Greeley, CO 80631.

H. Dean Johnson
Former Clay County resident Herbert Dean Johnson, 61, of rural Oshkosh died Thursday, Feb. 6, 1997, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Oshkosh Methodist Church in Oshkosh with the Rev. Lynn Lutz officiating. Burial will be in Oshkosh Cemetery. Holecheck Funeral Home of Oshkosh is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 5, 1936, to Herbert and Velma (Dunkle) Johnson near Fairfield. He moved to Central City with his family where they lived for one year. They then moved to rural Edgar where he grew up. He attended School District 24 and Edgar High School. He ran custom combines for several years before becoming a farmer. In 1953 he married Lorita Fuhrer. In 1966 they moved to Oshkosh. He married Vickie Jacobs in 1995.
He was a member of the Elks.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Deanne Cooper and LuCinda Jessen, both of Oshkosh, and Sherry Jobman of Bayard; two sons, Gary and Ted, both of Oshkosh; one stepdaughter, Angela Dreher at home; one stepson, Ron Rennich of Casper, Wyo.; his mother of Edgar; two brothers, Rollan and Darrel, both of Edgar; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be given to the Oshkosh Rescue Unit to help purchase a defibrillator.
