Raymond T. Hynes
Former Hastings resident Raymond Timothy Hynes, 74, of Salt Lake City died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 1995, in Salt Lake City.
Services were Saturday at Kearns 16th Ward in Salt Lake City. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park in Salt Lake City. McDougal Funeral Home of Salt Lake City was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hynes was born Jan. 27, 1921, to Daniel P. and Josephine (DeTour) Hynes in Bladen. On Dec. 29, 1945, he married Marie Jones in Salt Lake City. They moved to Hastings, later returning to Salt Lake City where he was solemnized in the Salt Lake Latter Day Saints Temple. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from the federal government where he served as a federal police officer for many years.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 27 years. He also was an advisor trainer and commissioner of services in the district. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Timothy of Midvale, Utah; one brother, James Robert of Harvard; and two grandchildren.

James M. Mangers
Hastings resident James M. Mangers, 69, of 1722 W. Seventh St. died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. Mangers was born June 27, 1926, to Michael and Carrie (Heuertz) Mangers in Roseland. He graduated from Roseland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944-46. On Aug. 27, 1947, he married Frances "Macel" Morgan. She died Jan. 11, 1995. He was a route man for Rainbo Bread from Grand Island to Kansas.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Eagles No. 592, VFW No. 1346 and the DAV, all of Hastings.
Survivors are one son, Ron of Hastings; two sisters, Florence Mousel of Elgin, Ill., and Helen Webb of Salem, Ore.; one brother, Robert Mangers of Salem, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a sister.
Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church.

James M. Mangers
Rosary for Hastings resident James M. Mangers of 1722 W. Seventh St. who died Tuesday at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery.

Loyd D. Kirkover
Former Hastings resident Loyd Delbert Kirkover, 63, of Granite City, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 1, 1995, at Scott Air Force Base Medical Center following a two-year illness.
Services were Thursday at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery chapel in St. Louis County, Mo. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Davis Funeral Home of Granite City was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kirkover was born June 24, 1932, to Herman and Nina (Frazer) Kirkover in Chester, Ill. On Aug. 12, 1955, he married Jutta Priese in Morfelden, Germany. He was a U.S. Air Force master sergeant for 22 years. He was stationed in Hastings at the time of his retirement in 1974. He had been a resident of Granite City for 11 years.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Herbert of Dahlonega, Ga.; one daughter, Diana Metzger of Hastings; his mother of Granite City; four brothers, Herbert L., Bob and Danny O., all of Granite City, and Charles of Edwardsville, Ill.; two sisters, Ruby Gilbert of Chester, Ill., and Delores Rice of St. Louis; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Frieda E. Dankenbring
Former Hebron resident Frieda E. Dankenbring, 92, of Lincoln died Monday, Oct. 9, 1995, in Lincoln.
Services were to be at 10:30 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with the Rev. Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Burial was planned in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hebron. Price Funeral Home of Hebron is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dankenbring was born July 29, 1903, in Deshler.
Survivors are three daughters, Donna Schmidt-Miller, Evie Harris and Verna Smith, all of Lincoln; one son, Larry of Hebron; four brothers, Robert Muehling of Beatrice, Arnold Muehling of Omaha, Leo Muehling of Hastings and Marvin Muehling of Newark, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church.

David S. Ebersole
Hastings resident David S. Ebersole, 89, of Sunnyside Home died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steve Markle officiating. His remains were donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Mr. Ebersole was born Aug. 15, 1906, to Simon B. and Katie (Lapp) Ebersole in Ayr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer.
Survivors are two brothers, George and Sam, both of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Frank L. Rose
Blue Hill resident Frank L. Rose, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 2:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont with the Rev. Fred Berry officiating. Burial will be at Rosemont Presbyterian Church southeast of Rosemont. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rose was born March 3, 1910, to Chris and Hattie (VanRaden) Rose in Webster County. On June 20, 1934, he married Lillie A. Johnson at Ayr. He farmed in Webster County.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Margene Stevens of Kearney and LaVonda Schmidt of Hastings; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church.

Edna L. Postlethwaite
Word has been received of the death of Minneapolis, Kan., resident Edna Laura (Meredith) Postlethwaite, 89, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hall Wesleyan Church in rural Delphos, Kan. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery.
Survivors are four sons, including Donald of Hastings; one daughter; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Hall Wesleyan Church or the Delphos Rest Home. Shields Funeral Home of Minneapolis is in charge of arrangements.

Walter A. Virus
Hebron resident Walter A. Virus, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, in Deshler.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with the Rev. Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hebron. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Hebron.
Mr. Virus was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Smyrna.
He is survived by a brother, Ludwig of Hebron.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Doris M. Hines
Former Kenesaw resident Doris May Hines, 78, of Sterling, Colo., died Friday, Oct. 13, 1995, at Sterling Regional MedCenter in Sterling.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Kenesaw Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Casey officiating. The remains were cremated. Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home of Kenesaw is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Hines was born Oct. 22, 1916, to Edward G. and Pearl M. (Jaco) Hines in Kenesaw. She graduated from Kenesaw High School and attended Hastings College for two years. She was a food service manager at Hesteds Co. In the early 1970s she moved to Sterling where she worked for the school district as a food service manager. She retired in the early 1980s.

Kiley Jo Lovgren
Kiley Jo Lovgren, 2-month-old daughter of former Clay County residents Eric and Janice (Matticks) Lovgren of Omaha, died Friday Oct. 13, 1995, at Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center with the Rev. Jack Eske officiating. Burial will be in Clay Center Cemetery. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.
Kiley was born July 24, 1995, in Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
Survivors are her parents; her grandparents, Wayne and Janene Lovgren of Clay Center, Robert and Shirley Matticks of Fairfield and Todd and Jean Kimminau of Superior; and her great-grandmother, Leona Lovgren of Harvard.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Leverle O. Shipley
Nelson resident Leverle O. Shipley, 86, died Friday, Oct. 13, 1995, at his home.
Services were to be at 10:30 a.m. today at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home chapel in Nelson with the Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Burial was planned in Nelson Cemetery near Nelson.
Mr. Shipley was born July 24, 1909, to Clause and Grace (Adams) Shipley in Oak. He attended Oak School. On May 20, 1937, he married Mable Dunken in Smith Center, Kan. He farmed in the Angus area, later moving to a farm northwest of Nelson. In 1964, he moved into Nelson. He worked for Nuckolls County Maintenance Department for 22 years. His wife died March 8, 1994.
He was a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Nelson.
Survivors are four daughters, Judith Kubicek of Schuyler, Carol Biltoft of Nora, Coleen Meyer of Lexington and Susan Shuck of Angus; one son, Michael of Monument, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Leo L. Carroll
Hastings resident Leo L. Carroll, 64, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Kottmeyer
Former Guide Rock resident Lydia (Mueller) Kottmeyer, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, at Good Samaritan Center in Superior.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church north of Superior with the Rev. Michael Osberg officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior.
Mrs. Kottmeyer was born May 25, 1906, to William and Mary (Grummert) Mueller in rural Plymouth. In 1908 she moved with her family to a farm south of Nelson. She attended rural school and Salem Lutheran School. On Dec. 9, 1926, she married Fredrick H. Kottmeyer at Salem Lutheran Church. They farmed northwest of Superior. In 1928, they moved to a farm northwest of Bostwick. Her husband died in 1948. She continued to live on the farm until moving to Good Samaritan Center in 1991.
Survivors are two daughters, Ruby Sund of Guide Rock and Nancy Hall of Wymore; two sons, Roy of Guide Rock and Fred of Broken Bow; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Ray; five brothers and one sister.

LeAnna M. Pedersen
Hastings resident LeAnna M. (Hansen) Pedersen, 61, of 131 E. Park St. died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Duane Nyce officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pedersen was born March 4, 1934, to Lowell and Helen (Rutt) Hansen in Upland.
She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are two sons, Ronald Granlund and Michael Pedersen, both of Hastings; her mother of Hastings; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Leo L. Carroll
Hastings resident Leo L. Carroll, 64, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lawrence McClure officiating. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Winner Cemetery in Winner, S.D., with the Rev. Thomas Gosser officiating.
Mr. Carroll was born Jan. 10, 1931, to Leslie L. and Clara E. (Hedlund) Carroll in Carter, S.D. On April 20, 1955, he married Twila M. Wempe. They later divorced. In 1964, he moved from Winner to Hastings. He was a manager at Gibson Discount City in Hastings for many years.
Survivors are one daughter, Cindy Jo Huber of Aurora; two sons, Michael Le of Clay Center and Steven Leslie of Hastings; two sisters, Evelyn Stober of Winner and Isula Charbonneau of Hot Springs, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Arnold W. Kramer
Former Blue Hill resident Arnold W. Kramer, 62, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 15, 1995, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Howard Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Kramer was born Nov. 14, 1932, to Fredrick and Dagney (Turmo) Kramer at the Southbranch parsonage in Bradish (Boone County). He received his early education in Bradish. In 1941, he moved with his family to Newman Grove where he continued his education. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-53. On Sept. 7, 1952, he married Norma VanGorden in Newman Grove. They lived in Omaha and Lincoln before moving to Blue Hill in 1974. He served as postmaster for 11 years. He retired after serving with the postal service for 33 years. They moved to Grand Island in 1994.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Steve of Grand Island; one daughter, Karen Davis of Grand Island; his mother and stepfather, Dagney and Rueben Johnson of Newman Grove; three brothers, Loran of Kimball, Ken of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Don of Fort Worth, Texas; five sisters, Lois Klassen of Minden, Helen Hollis of Newman Grove, Ruth Holthusen of Arlington, Minn., Dorothy Wright of Omaha and Kathy Shotkoski of St. Edward; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church.

Leona Kothe
Hastings resident Leona (Tanner) Kothe, 78, died Monday, Oct. 16, 1995, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church southwest of Hastings with the Rev. Clinton L. McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kothe was born March 30, 1917, to Milon and Rose (Huckfelt) Tanner in Hastings. She married Eddie Kothe. He died April 3, 1971. She was a lifelong resident of Hastings and a homemaker.
Survivors are three sons, Paul and Orville, both of Roseland, and Don of Shickley; three sisters, Helen Uhrmacher of Superior, Laura Sliger of Panorama City, Calif., and Violet Clipper of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Vernon Tanner of Little Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Nicholas J. 'Nick' Eckhardt
Holstein resident Nicholas J. "Nick" Eckhardt, 13, died Monday, Oct. 16, 1995, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein with the Rev. Gregory Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Holstein. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw.
Nick was born April 5, 1982, to Marlon and Teresa (Bergstrom) Eckhardt in Hastings. He attended elementary school at Holstein. He was an eighth-grader at Adams Central Junior-Senior High School where he was a member of the football team and played a trumpet in the band.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and 4-H, both in Holstein.
Survivors are his parents and siblings, Elizabeth and Jeremy; and his grandparents, Helen Bergstrom of Wilcox and Frank and Odean Eckhardt of Holstein.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Merrill Bergstrom.
Memorials may be given to the family.
