Connie Wells
Axtell resident Connie (Cole) Wells, 57, died Friday, Aug. 23, 1996, in Kearney.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Axtell. Freeland-Layton Funeral Home of Axtell is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are her husband; four sons; two stepdaughters; one stepson; her parents; one brother; one sister, Roberta Schwartz of Hildreth; seven grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

Arnold Koch
Deshler resident Arnold Koch, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1996, in Hebron.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. James P. Moll officiating. Burial will be in Deshler City Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mr. Koch was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Deshler. On June 10, 1949, he married Delores Edna Presnell at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. He was a farmer and a truck driver for Leuders Trucking in Deshler.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and its church council and was treasurer of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He was a member of the Deshler Volunteer Fire Department and treasurer of the Spring Creek Swingers Square Dance Club.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Stephen of Lincoln; two daughters, Arlene Wilke of Lincoln and Margaret Lichty of Blacksburg, Va.; one brother, Otto Koch of Imperial; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

Marie A. Miller
Former Hastings resident Marie A. Miller, 86, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs.
Services are pending at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Arthur H. Flammang
Doniphan resident Arthur H. "Art" Flammang, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 1996, at his home.
Visitation was Sunday and services were to be 10 a.m. today, both at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Doniphan with the Rev. John Hawkins officiating. Burial was planned in the Cedar View Cemetery at Doniphan. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Flammang was born Oct. 1, 1908, to Alphons "A.C." and Christina Flammang in Orleans. He grew up in Orleans and graduated from Orleans High School in 1926. He began farming near Orleans. On Feb. 28, 1933, he married Josephine "Jo" Oswald at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. They farmed until moving to North Hollywood, Calif., in 1940. He worked for Bendix Aviation. In 1944 they returned to Orleans to farm. In 1952 they purchased a farm near Doniphan. They retired in 1975 and moved into Doniphan.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Crosier Lay Apostolate.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Robert of San Marcus, Texas, and Ronald of Crowley, Texas; one daughter, Virginia Williamson of Plant City, Fla.; four sisters, Eleanor Grime of Toledo, Ohio, Bertha McCoy of Omaha and Magdaline Givens and Mildred Ayers, both of Lancaster, Calif.; one brother, Harold of Hemet, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to St. Ann's Catholic Church or the Crosier Monastery in Hastings.

W. Wayne Kelly
Rural Naponee resident W. Wayne Kelly, 78, died Friday, Aug. 23, 1996, as the result of a pickup-train accident one-half mile west of Naponee.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Republican City with the Rev. Lyn Seiser officiating. The remains will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no public visitation. Banta-Torrey Funeral Home of Alma is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kelly was born May 8, 1918, to William and Myrtle (Romjue) Kelly at Naponee. He attended school in Naponee, graduating in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 in Iran. On March 1, 1943, he married Marguerite Driggers in Columbia, S.C. After his discharge from the Army, he and his wife farmed near Naponee.
He was member of Republican City United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday school teacher. He served on the Sindt Rural School District 14 Board of Education and was a former Franklin County Supervisor. He was a member of the Republican Lodge No. 98, A.F. & A.M., and Order of the Eastern Star Republican Chapter No. 304, both of Republican City.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Dave of Naponee; one daughter, Janice Lovitt of Ansley; one sister, Velma Gartin of Kearney; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.

John B. Parsons
Hastings resident John Buford "Boots" Parson, 84, of 1109 N. St. Joseph Ave. died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Parsons was born May 7, 1912, to John and Verna (Wilson) Parsons in Ong. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School. On Oct. 18, 1935, he married Kathryn E. Wacker in Hastings. He was associated with his father at Parsons Oil Co. for many years. After the sale of the company, he worked for National Oil and Equipment Co. He retired Sept. 1, 1972.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife; one son, John of Fort Collins, Colo.; three daughters, Peggy Haff of Waterloo, Ontario, Suzanne Smith of Fort Collins and Kathleen Parsons of Denver; one sister, Jean Miles of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.

Francis G. Carl
Former Adams County resident Francis G. Carl, 79, of Reno, Nev., died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.
Graveside services with military rites were Aug. 21 at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nev. Ross-Burke-Knobel Mortuary of Reno was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carl was born April 12, 1917, to Otto and Rose (Earthum) Carl in Holstein. He grew up in Adams County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a manager for an auto leasing company.
Survivors are his wife, Beverly; six daughters, Cathy Hultine of Lexington, Jackie Koepke of Hastings, Marilyn Fowler of Chectah, Okla., Suszie Carl of Sterling, Cindy Whitenight of Greensburg, Pa., and Maryellen Carl of Reno; three sons, Jim and Tim, both of Winnemucca, Nev., and Joseph of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Marge Parr of Roseland, Lucille Hoffman of Lincoln and Rosie Navarez of California; one brother, Gene of California; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marie A. Miller
Former Hastings resident Marie A. "Dollie" (Scott) Miller, 86, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Rosary is 9:45 a.m. and services are 10 a.m., both Thursday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Monsignor John J. McCabe officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Campbell. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Miller was born July 18, 1910, to Frank and Adaline (Jones) Scott on a farm southeast of Stanberry, Mo. As a young child she moved with her parents to Louisiana for one year before returning to Stanberry. While in grade school she moved to Omaha. She graduated from Benson High School. On Dec. 29, 1934, she married Tobias "Toby" Miller in Anselmo. He died in 1991. She was a homemaker.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be given to Crosier Monastery.

Melvin E. Spahn
Former Sutton resident Melvin Eugene Spahn, 66, of Norfolk died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Norfolk.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ is King Church in Norfolk with the Rev. Glenn Waplehorst officiating. Graveside services are 4 p.m. at Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kohler Mortuary in Sutton. Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel of Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spahn was born Sept. 20, 1929, to George Lyle and Hattie Ruth (Hatcliff) Spahn in Sutton. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1949. On Sept. 7, 1964, he married Carol Summerville in Mitchell. He was a feed mill foreman for Farmland Co-op in Juniata from 1963-79 and Sutton Co-op in Sutton from 1979-87. In 1987 he began working for Clay County Roads Department. In 1991 he retired due to ill health. In April 1995 he moved from Sutton to Norfolk.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sutton and a past member of Sutton Volunteer Fire Department and Sutton Lions Club.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Charis Buell of Chicago and Lois Spahn of Norfolk; two sons, Lee of Norfolk and Jason of Chicago; one brother, Lyle of Lincoln; and three grandchildren.

Pamela S. Ronzheimer
Hastings resident Pamela Sue (Lowery) Ronzheimer, 44, of 902 N. Lincoln Ave. No. 2 died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1996, as result of a traffic accident in Friend.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Hastings with the Revs. Karl Harman and Tim Fleener officiating. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today with the family at Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mrs. Ronzheimer was born July 21, 1952, to George Edward and Betty (Heinrichs) Lowery in Hebron. She was a student at Central Community College-Hastings. She was a former secretary at Keller Graduate School in Chicago and Arlington Heights, Ill., and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Hastings Baptist Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Teresa Ronzheimer of St. Charles, Ill.; one brother, George Richard of Palatine, Ill., and three sisters, Candy Kay Lowery and Marilyn Diane Clevenger, both of Elgin, Ill., and Barbara J. Douglas of Lincoln.
Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation, Nebraska Chapter, 5601 S. 27th St., Suite 204, Lincoln, NE 68512 or First Baptist Church.

Fern M. Speed
Hastings resident Fern M. (Newberg) Speed, 87, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Parkview Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Liddell officiating. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Speed was born Sept. 25, 1908, to Leonard and Amanda (Anderson) Newberg in Stanton, Iowa. She graduated from Red Oak (Iowa) High School. She married John Evert Speed. She moved to Hastings in 1950. Her husband died Dec. 13, 1974. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and five sisters.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Benny Watson Jr.
Former Hastings resident Benny Watson Jr., 80, of Newman Grove died Friday, Aug. 23, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post No. 73 of Newman Grove was in Hope Cemetery at Newman Grove. Jacobson-Motl Funeral Home of Newman Grove was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Watson was born June 30, 1916, to Ben and Nancy (Meyers) Watson in Albion. He attended school in Albion. He completed the seventh grade. He moved with his family to Newman Grove in 1929. On March 5, 1938, he married Grace Katherine Edwards. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45. From 1947-52 he worked on a section gang for Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He moved to Hastings where he was a maintenance man in the Hastings Public School system. After his retirement, he continued to live in Hastings.
Survivors are four daughters, Sharon Ahrens, Sherry Watson and Vicki Guenter, all of Lincoln, and Sandy Alles of Colorado; two sons, Kent and Jimmy, both of Lincoln; one sister, Iva Landen of Albion; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirlene; four sisters and one brother.

Services for former Minden resident Inger Marie Thomsen, 89, of Kearney who died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1996, at St. John's Center in Kearney are 2 p.m. Friday at Layton Funeral Home chapel in Minden with the Rev. Ralph Larson officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth I. Osterbuhr
Former Bloomington resident Ruth Irene (Doud) Osterbuhr, 88, of Lexington, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, at her home.
Services are 2:30 p.m. today at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Rita Coakley officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Osterbuhr was born Sept. 15, 1907, to Frank E. and Minnie Elizabeth (Carroll) Doud on a farm north of Bloomington. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1926. She was a member of the girls' basketball team that won the state tournament her senior year. On May 13, 1928, she married Carl E. Osterbuhr in Smith Center, Kan. He died Dec. 8, 1961. In 1973, Mrs. Osterbuhr retired as a bookkeeper and secretary for the Franklin County Extension Office after serving 11 years. She lived most of her life in Franklin until moving closer to family in Lexington two years ago.
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Franklin where she was a member of the Ladies Circle and church choir. She also was a member of the Women's Bridge Club, the Laugh-a-Lot Club of Franklin and the Spring Valley Saddle Club.
Survivors are her daughter, Carol Frerichs of Lexington; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Kenneth D. Lindberg
Hastings resident Kenneth D. Lindberg, 89, of 1951 W. Seventh St. died Friday, Aug. 2, 1996, at Community Care of Edgar.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jack Eske officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.
Lindberg was born June 30, 1907, to Frank and Minnie (Lovegren) Lindberg in Saronville. He farmed in the Clay Center area. On May 12, 1954, he married Viola Frandson. He was a World War II veteran.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Clay Center and a 50-year member of American Legion Post No. 87 of Clay Center.
Survivors are his wife; and three sisters, Rose Woodward of Grand Island, Ruth Manion of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Ruby Bellairs of Yakima, Wash.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Amanda K. Storehalder
Hastings resident Amanda Kay Storehalder, 15, of 1408 W. Fourth St. died Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996, as the result of a car accident in Adams County.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Kathleen G. Kasper officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery west of Glenvil. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Storehalder was born Feb. 27, 1981, to Robert L. and LeAnne R. (Mitzelfelt) Storehalder. She attended Hastings Public Schools and was a sophomore at Hastings Senior High School, where she was active in track, choir and band.
She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in its youth church choir, youth group, Bible school and hand bell choir.
Survivors are her mother and stepfather, Richard C. and LeAnne R. Blau of Hastings; her father and stepmother, Robert L. and Deborah L. Storehalder of Hastings; one brother, Ryan R. Storehalder of Hastings; two step-sisters, Tiffany Schiemann and Christina Schiemann, both of Hastings; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mitzelfelt of Hastings and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Storehalder of Lyons, Ohio; and two step-grandmothers, Arlene Shipman of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Genevieve Blau of Hastings.
Memorials may be given to the Amanda Kay Storehalder Memorial Fund.

Jordan A. Fisk
Hastings resident Jordan Alan Fisk, 15, 501 N. California Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 4, 1996, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital as the result of injuries suffered in a car accident in Adams County.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Kathleen G. Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary.
Jordan was born Dec. 25, 1980, to Alan R. and Marilyn (Breault) Fisk in Hastings. He was a sophomore at Hastings Senior High School, where he was a member of the football and varsity wrestling teams. He played American Legion baseball.
Survivors are his mother and stepfather, George D. and Marilyn White; his father; one sister, Shannon of Hastings; two brothers, George White Jr. and Justin White, both of Hastings; his grandparents, Gloria Breault, Gene White and Ruth and Walt Hoffman, all of Hastings, and Sadie White of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather and great-grandmother.

Ruth Ann E. Bangert
Blue Hill resident Ruth Ann Ellen (Henderson) Bangert, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont with the Rev. Michael Knox officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Lawrence.
Mrs. Bangert was born Dec. 9, 1906, to Horace and Clara (Crawford) Henderson on a farm south of Rosemont. At 10 she moved with her family to a farm near Culbertson, and later to a farm near McCook. She later returned to Blue Hill and graduated from Blue Hill High School. She taught for three years at rural schools in Webster and Red Willow counties. On Feb. 10, 1929, she married Gerhard Bangert in McCook. They made their home on two farms south of Lawrence. Her husband died Oct. 8, 1978. She moved to Blue Hill.
Mrs. Bangert was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She also was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors are three daughters, Barbara Alber of Blue Hill, June Bowen of Thomas, Okla., and Dorothy Nelson of Littleton, Colo.; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Winifred; one sister, one brother and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church.

N.K. 'Cy' Merriweather
Smith Center, Kan., resident N.K. "Cy" Merriweather, 77, died Friday, Aug. 2, 1996, at the Smith County Long Term Care Unit in Smith Center.
Services were to be 10:30 a.m. today at Simmons Funeral Home chapel in Smith Center with the Revs. Freda Steele and Richard Krenz officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 220 and masonic rites by the Western Star Lodge 174 AF & AM was to be at Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center.
Mr. Merriweather was born Feb. 2, 1919, to Elmer Earl and Nina Lilith (Wheeler) Merriweather in Dresden, Kan. He served in the European and Pacific theaters as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II.
He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 1948. He moved to Smith Center, where he operated Cy's Drug Store for 40 years. He married Betty Dutton. In 1990 he was presented the Bowl of Hygia, an award given by the Kansas Pharmacy Association to recognize outstanding pharmacists.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Western Star Lodge 174 AF & AM and American Legion Post 220, all in Smith Center, and the Isis Shrine.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Mark of Dallas, Timothy of Austin, Texas, and Christopher of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, Norris of Denver; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Smith County Memorial Hospital, the Smith County Long Term Care Unit or Smith Center United Methodist Church.
