Chester "Chet" Adams, 91 (1913-2005)
Chester "Chet" Adams, 91, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, February 28, 2005, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
He was born August 16, 1913, at Lexington, to Robert and Sylvia Mae (Adams) Adams.
Chet grew up on a farm north of Overton, Nebraska, where he attended school at District #48, and later in the Overton school system. When his father died at a young age, Chester was forced to quit school and go to work to help support his mother and siblings. He worked for area farmers around Overton and Lexington.
He was united in marriage to Frances Thinnes on February 18, 1941, at Elm Creek, Nebraska. Following their marriage, the couple continued to farm until their retirement in the 1980's. Chet was known as a real "Tinkerer." He could fix anything that was given to him to fix. When something broke down it was given to "Uncle Chet" to fix.
The couple enjoyed playing cards and attending dances when they were younger. He was always known as a gentleman and a harsh word was never heard coming from Chet. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Retha Ganser of Downey, California, and Evelyn Campbell of Kearney, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clyde; and one sister, Opal.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, March 3, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with Rev. Paul Colling officiating. Burial was in St. Ann's Cemetery at Lexington. Rosary was held Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Velma J. Jensen, age 78 (1926-2005)
Velma Jensen, 78, of Cozad, Nebraska, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005.
She was born July 26, 1926, at Humbolt, Nebraska, to Ben and Mae Philpot. She attended school through the 12th grade.
In 1952, she moved to Cozad and on June 27, 1953, she married Russell Jensen. Velma had worked at Monroe Auto Equipment Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. During her lifetime, she enjoyed collecting painted china and decorative spoons. She and her husband had enjoyed extensive traveling through the years.
Survivors include her husband, Russell of Cozad; a brother, Ralph Philpot of Raytown, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family, Dixie Lee and her family.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice in her memory.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the Cozad Cemetery with Pastor Roger Sloan officiating.
Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad was in charge of arrangements.

Allan F. Juel, age 48 (1956-2005)
Allan F. Juel, 48, of Lindsay, Oklahoma, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Kindred Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was born March 26, 1956, in Lexington to Wilfred J. and Elizabeth C. (Sanks) Juel. Allan graduated from Lexington High School with the Class of 1974. He moved from Lexington to Dibble, Oklahoma, five years ago. He is a member of First Christian Church. He was employed by Hart Manufacturing in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Allan enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Juel of Lexington; one son, Michael Juel of Lindsay, Oklahoma; two daughters, Nicole Juel of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and Crystal Juel of Lindsay, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jaszaman Gene and Nova Ann, both of Lindsay, Oklahoma; one sister, Nancy and Charles Rankin of Lindsay, Oklahoma; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother and several other relatives.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Lexington with Pastor Kyron C. BeDunnah officiating.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Juel Family.
Allan's body will be cremated following services.

Paul A. "Bud" Helmuth, 74 (1926-2005)
Paul A. "Bub" Helmuth, 74, of Callaway, Nebraska, formerly of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center.
He was born on April 6, 1930, to George and Lydia (Oxner) Helmuth at Oconto, Nebraska. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1948. He married Geraldine Robinson in 1948. He married Elaine Fisher on September 12, 1976.
Paul farmed for a number of years near Oconto on Redfern Table, and also worked at the sale barn in Lexington, Nebraska, during that time. In the 1970's he worked for a hay trucking company in Cozad, Nebraska. For the past 17 years he worked for Paulsen's in Cozad. He enjoyed horses and loved telling stories and helping people.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeannie (Jim Metzger) Malcom of Cozad, Nebraska, Cheryll (Loren) Peterson of Arnold, Nebraska, and Crystal (Stan) Hood of Brady, Nebraska; one son, Mitch (Shelly) Helmuth of Cozad; one sister, Eva Grice of Humboldt, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 5, 2005, 4 p.m., at Blase Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg with Pastor Larry Viter officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
A memorial has been established.

E. Irene Workman, age 88 (1913-2005)
E. Irene Workman, 88, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Hobart, Indiana, on December 27, 1916, to Edith (Hartnup) and John Schroeder. Her family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and then to North Platte, Nebraska. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1935.
On April 16, 1938, she married John G. Workman in North Platte. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1986.
Irene was a 50-plus year member of Banner United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Union Aid, Open Door, Gothenburg Hospital Auxiliary and worked at the blood drives for Red Cross. She also helped with the Senior Center when it was being started. She volunteered to help dress teddy bears for Christmas for the Salvation Army and helped with the 4-H Clubs and Cub Scouts when the children were younger. She made cookies for the children at church and for summer Bible School, she volunteered for help whenever it was needed for Lord's Acre Day and was always there when any of us needed her love. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all she met. We all love you and will miss you!
Survivors include one daughter, Jane A. Rider of Omaha, Nebraska; two sons, David G (Marcia) Workman of Omaha, and Thomas P. Workman of North Platte; one brother, Kenneth (Dollie) Schroeder of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Schroeder of Lincoln, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents John Schroeder and Edith Batt; a daughter, Gaye Franzen; granddaughter, Toni Rider; two brothers, Earl and Herbert Schroeder; two sisters, Anna Nelsen and Margaret Shrimp; and her step-father, Raphael Batt.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 7, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. at the Banner United Methodist Church, with Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Burial was in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Banner United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
Blase Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg was in charge of arrangements.

Ester L. Gehring, age 88 (1916-2005)
Ester Lydia Louise (Esslinger) Gehring, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska, died on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Ester was born March 31, 1916, near Arapahoe, Nebraska. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and School north of Arapahoe and was married to Martin Gehring, February 17, 1935, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple spent most of their married lives on the family farm north of Arapahoe in Gosper County. In 1962, they relocated to Lexington. She was employed at Baumgartner's Department Store and Ace Hardware until her retirement.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church as well as Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. She was active in the L.W.M.L., L.L.L. and fellowship group at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty and Ron Tull of Omaha, Nebraska, and Carol and Ross Albers of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Jason and wife Kim Albers of Houston, Texas, and Teresa (Tull) and husband Brian Biernat of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Griffin Biernat of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Elda and Martin Leising of Denver, Colorado; and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin in 1996; five brothers, Richard, Hugo, Cornelius, Raymond and Elmer; and two sisters, Minnie and Tina.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Michael Gruhn officiating. Burial was held at 3:30 p.m. at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
Memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Hour or Trinity Lutheran Church.
