Dick Lee Hahn
Dick Lee Hahn was born Sept. 27, 1931, on the family farm in Hayes County, Nebraska, to Clarence and Bertha (Herbert) Hahn. He graduated from Wauneta High School in 1951, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year, serving four years during the Korean War. He was united in marriage in 1951 to Coletta Wach and to this union two sons, Mitchel D. and Neil R., were born. After serving his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he received a Civil Engineering Degree in 1961. He gained employment with the Idaho Forest Service where he worked for many years. He also worked in the Washington D.C. area for some time before retiring. The last three years he spent part of his time living in Palisade and the winter months in Texas. Dick passed away Saturday evening, May 14, 2005, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, Neb. He was 73 years of age. Dick was a member of the Hamlet Union Church and a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Sams Club. His hobbies included square dancing, fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a Scout leader for many years, achieving the Scout's highest honor bestowed on a leader. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Coletta; son, Mitchel; brother, Victor Hahn; two sisters: Josephine Reiman and Esther Egle. Survivors include: son, Neil Hahn and wife, Laura, of Parker, Colo.; sister, Beth and husband, Billy Smith, of Palisade, Neb.; sister-in-law, Marie Hahn of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren: Katie Hahn of Colorado and Brandie and husband, Shane Wagner, of Colorado; three great grandchildren, Seth, Katlyn and Sydney; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, with Pastor Marshall Erickson officiating. Music will be provided by organist Mrs. Delores Flaming and soloist Mr. Kelly Egle with the congregational hymn, "Victory in Jesus." Casketbearers are Loren Egle, Loran Wach, Todd Anderson, Dennis Egle, Kenny Egle and Norman Egle. Honorary casketbearer is Bill Smith. Interment will be in the Hamlet Cemetery at Hamlet, Neb.

Andrew Blake Wood
Andrew Blake Wood, 22-month-old son of Darrin and Tanya Wood, died at his home in rural Piedmont, S.D., on Wednesday, April 20, 2005. He is survived by his parents and three brothers: Jonathan, Jack and his twin brother, Alex; his grandmothers, Iola Langley of Spearfish, S.D., and Donna Wood of Imperial; and his aunts and uncles: Michael and Barbie Long, Sharon and Jerry Littrel, Staci and Kenny Lawless, Karen and Larry Decair, Diane and Ed Bertrand, Davy and Cindy Langley, Gin and Kevin Emery and Patty and Gary Maki. Andrew was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Cliff Wood and Lee Langley. Our sweet little angel, Andrew, touched so many lives while here on this earth. He was a gift from God, so precious and sweet, who fought the most incredible fight of his life. Now, in heaven, he is a true angel, our special angel. No more battles, only peace in eternity. Memorial services were held Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Rimrock Ev. Free Church with Rev. Rob Graham and Rev. Mike Hays officiating. Clifford C. Moody
Clifford C. Moody was born Aug. 28, 1909, to Elbert and Mary (Overman) Moody in a sod house on his parents' homestead north of Wauneta, Neb. in Chase County. He departed this life on March 31, 2005, at Northwest Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. Clifford attended school as a child at the Spring Valley School in rural Chase County. On April 7, 1934, he married Velma Hixon in Holyoke, Colo. She was a young lady he had known and admired since childhood. To this union were born two children, Ronald D. Moody of Tucson and Mary E. Gage of Wauneta. As a young man, Clifford worked beside his dad on the family farm. He told many stories of the years the two of them pulled their "Alfalfa Huller" over a large area of Chase, Perkins and Hayes Counties with an old International Tractor, threshing alfalfa seed for many families in the area. In 1944 Clifford's dad became very ill and was forced to retire, at which time Clifford took over the family farm until 1955 when he and Velma decided to try a different lifestyle and moved to Denver, Colo., where they lived for the next nine years. Cliff owned and operated a Standard Oil station and also worked as a salesman for different businesses during this time. In 1964 Cliff and Velma moved back to the family farm where they lived for the next 17 years, engaged mainly with their hog operation. In 1981 they retired and moved to Tucson to be by their son and his family and enjoy the warm winters. On April 7, 2004, Clifford and Velma celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with many family members and friends. The stories of their courtship, their wedding and their life together will be forever treasured by their children and grandchildren along with Clifford's wonderful sense of humor, his passion for life and his love for his family. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Mary Moody and one sister, Marita Robertson. Clifford leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Velma, of nearly 71 years; his son, Ronald D. Moody, and wife Ellen of Tucson, Ariz., and daughter Mary E. and husband Keith Gage of Wauneta, Neb.; along with nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held on April 9, 2005, at the Wauneta Methodist Church with Pastor Judy Dye presiding. Organist was Mrs. Diana Ham and soloist was Mrs. Sharon Walgren. Casketbearers were Bob Gage, Mike Gage, Jim Gage, Keith Wallace, Scott Moody and Craig Fanning. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Tepley, Raymond Maxfield, Jack Maddux, Kenneth Denker, Bob Kitt and Kenneth Polly. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta, Neb. Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LaVonne 'Bonnie' L. Teply
LaVonne 'Bonnie' L. Teply, 71, of Palisade, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at the Community Hospital of McCook. On Oct. 15, 1933, she was born in Hershey to George and Celia M. (Bodell) Marquette. As a youth the family moved to Sarben where she graduated from the Paxton High School with the class of 1950. She joined the Methodist church as a junior in high school and sang in the choir. She attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln and North Platte Business College, graduating in 1953. She was employed at the old Memorial Hospital in North Platte and later transferred to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo. She returned to North Platte in 1972 and was employed at the Game Commission as a bookkeeper. On May 31, 1974, she was united in marriage to Charles Teply at the Methodist Church in Paxton. The couple farmed and ranched in Hayes County for 25 years and then retired to Palisade. Preceding her in death were her father, George; her step-father of 30 years, the late Leonard Lawyer; an infant sister, Wanda June; a nephew Randy Marquette and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Marquette. She is survived by her husband, Charles Teply of Palisade; her mother, Celia Lawyer of North Platte; brothers, Gordon Marquette and wife Bonnie of Trenton and George Marquette and wife Joyce of Paxton; a step-brother, Mike Lawyer, and wife Michelle of Omaha; her aunt, June Barnard of Denver, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sutherland Cemetery. Clifford Moody
Clifford Moody, longtime resident of Wauneta, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Tucson, Ariz. He was 95 years of age. Survivors include his wife, Velma, of Tucson; son Ron Moody and wife, Ellen, of Tucson; daughter Mary and husband, Keith Gage, of Wauneta; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, April 9, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with Pastor Judy Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta. Visitation will be held Friday afternoon, April 8 at 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Wauneta. Memorials have been established to the United Methodist Church of Wauneta and the Wauneta Senior Center. Liewer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Grace Walling Gerih
Irene Grace Walling Gerih was born in Wauneta, Neb., on Aug. 15, 1920, to Ward L. and Grace E. (DeGarmo) Walling. As a young lady, she grew up and attended school in Wauneta. Irene married Howard John (Joe) Gerih on May 24, 1937, at Holyoke, Colo. To this union, five children were born: Myrna, Barbara, Gerald, Joe and Randy. The couple settled and made their home in Wauneta for many years. Irene and Howard (Joe) were married 54 years before Joe passed away in 1992. Irene continued to live in Wauneta for several years before she moved to Mississippi to be closer to her daughters. Irene was a homemaker and a saint for her easy-going ways. She never asked, wanted, or complained about anything even when she was ill. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Irene enjoyed crocheting and knitting. The greatest enjoyment in life was to make something for someone. She loved her flowers and gardening. She enjoyed traveling with her family and often reminisced about going to California with her father in her earlier days and all the things she had seen. She also traveled from Canada to Florida and all in between. She especially loved Disney World Theme Parks and her weekly casino night. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends. She passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Garden Park Medical Center, Gulfport, Miss. She was 84 years of age. Survivors include: daughter Myrna and husband, Jim Brown, of Biloxi, Miss., son Joe Gerih of Denver, Colo., daughter Barbara and husband, Herbert Castolina, of Gulfport, Miss., son Randy Gerih and wife, Jan, of Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother Glen Walling and wife, Lola, of Atwater, Calif.; sister June Cox of Wauneta; sister Fern and husband, Carl Duhm, of Turlock, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Gerald; brothers Robert and Ward Walling; sisters Peggy Haarberg, Nellie Haarberg and Gladys Grose. Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, in Wauneta with Rev. Murray Schmechel officiating. Pianist was Mrs. Lucille McBride and soloist was Mrs. Sharon Walgren. Casketbearers were Mike Gerih, Jerry Gerih, John Ourada, Craig Wilson, Bob Cox and Ron Cox. Violet May (Corey) Beard
Violet May (Corey) Beard was born on Aug. 4, 1921, to Roy and Sylvia Corey at the family home, north of Wauneta. She departed this life on March 12, 2005, at the age of 83 years, seven months, eight days, when she was called home to be with her heavenly father and the love of her life, Clifford. She went to country school and attended high school in Casper, Wyo., where she was a classmate of Charlton Heston. Violet married Clifford Oath Beard on Sept. 14, 1941. They were blessed with four children: Virginia, Ronald, Kaye and John. They lived in Venango and south of Champion before settling in Hayes Center where she worked at Nelms Grocery Store for a time and drove school bus for over 30 years. In 1980 they retired and moved to Enders where she continued to drive school bus. She loved gardening, both her flowers and their vegetables. She loved crocheting, doing needle point and sewing clothes for her grandchildren. Cooking and baking were another passion along with spending time with her grandchildren. Having her whole family with her was one thing she always looked forward to. She was president of the Hayes County Historical Society for many years. She was also an active member of the Enders Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford in 2000, brothers Frank, Lester (Bus), and Don and sister Mary. Velma D. Collins
Velma D. Collins died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial. She was 94 years old. Velma was born in Hayes County, Nebraska, to Richard and Kitty (Lantz) Daniel. She graduated from Wauneta High School. She continued her education at Kearney State Teachers College where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. On July 25, 1929, she married Boyd Lee Collins in Sterling, Colo. To this union two daughters were born. They made their home in Hayes County most of their married life. Velma taught school in Hayes County and then worked in Social Work for 40 years until her retirement. She attended Hamlet Union Church since a small child, and enjoyed teaching adult Sunday school. She loved her flowers and gardening and many other hobbies. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Boyd; an infant son; two brothers, Alvin and Richard Daniel; and one sister, Etta Trainer. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara and husband, Lyle Ingersoll, of Palisade and Linda Clark of Omaha; sister-in-law, Ruby Black of Palisade; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be given in her name. Graveside services were held Monday, March 28, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Hamlet with Ray Ridlen officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lawn. Lorenz William Bischoff
Lorenz William Bischoff was born on Jan. 23, 1926, near Wauneta, Neb., to Henry and Lydia (Beckmann) Bischoff. Lorenz departed this life on Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Imperial, Neb. He was baptized, attended grade school and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Wauneta. He attended high school to the 10th grade at Wauneta High School. Lorenz was a farmer for many years until his health did not permit him to continue farming. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a resident of The Imperial Manor in Imperial for the last four and a half years of his life. Lorenz was 79 years, two months and three days old at the time of his death. Lorenz was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lydia Bischoff; brother and sister-in-law Elmer and Leatha Bischoff; sister Esther and brother-in-law William Keiser; niece-in-law Sharon Keiser and great nephew Joel Nordhausen. Left to rejoice in Lorenz's salvation are his sister, Arlene, and husband, Vernon Shoemaker, of Lincoln, Neb.; aunt Helen Bischoff of Salem, Ore.; aunt Ella Winkelmann of Imperial; nephew Everett Keiser and niece Laura Keiser of Denver, Colo.; nieces Sandra Nordhausen and Linda Fanning of Austin, Texas; nephew Dirk Shoemaker and wife Nancy of Lincoln; great nephew Justin Nordhausen and wife, Amy, of Austin, Texas; great nephew Levi Fanning and wife, Cherie, of Round Rock, Texas; great niece Jonica and husband, Samuel Taylor, of Thrall, Texas; great nephew Andrew Shoemaker and great niece Kari Shoemaker of Lincoln; and great, great nieces Kathryn Fanning and Savana Taylor and great, great nephews Jacob Taylor and Liam Fanning, extended family and friends. Lorenz was a man of few words, but he felt a deep and abiding faith in his Lord and Savior. It is with the assurance of our Lord's words, "Because I live, you will live also" and further "I am the resurrection and the life, he that liveth and believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live and he that liveth and believeth in me shall never die," that we are comforted today. Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Keith Wellman officiating. Lorenz was interred at St. Paul's cemetery. Pastor Wellman visited Lorenz faithfully over the years and his words were always so comforting to Lorenz. His favorite hymns were sung by the church choir and the congregation, accompanied by organist first cousin Karen Christner. Pallbearers were family and friends: Andrew Shoemaker, Charles Andrew, Bill Bischoff, Heath Nordhausen, Ray Murillo and Michael Andrew. Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Wauneta.

Norma Ellen (Troxel) Bodeman
Norma Ellen (Troxel) Bodeman was born Dec. 23, 1923, to Charles Orley & Luella May (Bush) Troxel at their farm home three miles south of Wauneta. Norma departed this life March 16, 2005, at Imperial. She was a loving sister to Neoma Evelyn, Charles Robert and Nola Elaine. She and Neoma attended Sunny Side School three and one half miles south of Wauneta until the eighth grade and both attended Wauneta High School, graduating in 1941. She then attended business college at Hastings. Norma was baptized into her Lord's family at an early age. She married Gerold Alfred Bodeman at Oberlin, Kan., on Aug. 7, 1943. They made their home at farms north of Wauneta and Palisade before moving east of Palisade. Norma was a bookkeeper for Oger's filling station in McCook, Hayes Center ASCS and receptionist for Dr. Ivan Lamb. She helped Gerold on the farm until they retired. Upon retirement they moved to their home in Palisade where she lived until her recent illness. They celebrated 61 years of marriage Aug. 7, 2004. Their home has always been open to relatives and friends. She was a member of the Jolly Janes Club and the Beverly Aid until the last few years. She and Gerold loved to travel and spend time in their Arizona home during the winter months. She was devoted to her parents in their ailing years. Norma loved to embroidery and did much hand work while visiting them in the nursing home in Wauneta. She loved to bake and decorate cakes which graced many weddings and anniversaries of families and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Robert Troxel; sister Neoma Evelyn Miller; a sister-in-law Laverda Newberry and brothers-in-law Harley, Leland and Verle Bodeman. She leaves to mourn her passing, husband Gerold of Palisade; sister Nola and husband, Harry Straub, of Wauneta and brother-in-law Donald Miller of Denver; sister-in-law Fern and husband George Good of El Paso, Texas; brother-in-law Arlie Bodeman and wife, Pauline, of Portland, Ore.; uncle Talbert Bush of Greeley, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Funeral services were held Monday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. (MST) at the Church of Christ, Wauneta, Neb., with Randy Hayes and Rick Eldred officiating. Music was provided by the Church of Christ singers. Selections chosen included "Precious Lord" and "In the Garden." A duet of Curtis Newberry and Sharon Martell sang "The Lord's Prayer." Pall bearers were Raymond Miller, Daniel Miller, Donald Miller, Timothy Miller, David Straub, Robert Straub, Curtis Newberry and Steven Bodeman. Honorary bearers were Doug Bodeman, Ronald Bodeman, Arnold McClatchey and Dennis Bodeman. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, in charge of arrangements.

Alvin E. Rueter
Alvin E. Rueter, 87, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte and Hayes County, died March 9, 2005, in Lincoln. He was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Wauneta to Lawrence and Elizabeth Neuhart Rueter. He graduated from Wauneta High School in 1935. He married Irma Bricker at Atwood, Kan., on April 15, 1941. He farmed in Hayes County for 47 years. After retiring in April of 1991, they moved to North Platte. They most recently moved to Lincoln in 2004. He was a volunteer at the North Platte Hospital and a member of the Eagles. Survivors include his wife, Irma, of Lincoln; two daughters, Marilyn Kay and husband, Richard Burklund, of Lincoln and Janet and husband, Allan Eastwood, of Callaway; six grandchildren: Scott (Emmaly) Burklund, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Todd (Shelly) Burklund, Keith (Krista) Burklund and Kent (Bettina) Burklund, all of Lincoln; Kristi (Rich) Dvorak, and Debra (Ted Cooper) Stupplebeen, all of Callaway; 9 great grandchildren: Jordan, Brittany, Rachel, Blake and Jack Burklund, Brooke and Ashley Moormeier, Kacee Dvorak and Jay Cooper; brother, Lawrence Rueter; three sisters: Helen Darby of North Platte, Hattie Rosetti and Lucille (Ric) Lee; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Olga McBride and Carolyn Davis; two brothers, Frank and Carl; and two great grandsons, Geoffrey and Brayden. Services were held Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with Pastor Cathy Cole officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta, Neb. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Maxine Leone Heldenbrand
Maxine Leone Heldenbrand was born on July 25, 1918, to Grace and Orland Weesner on a farm near Dunning, Neb. She attended elementary school at Broken Bow, Neb., and junior and senor high schools at North Platte. Maxine married Frederick W. Heldenbrand in Holyoke, Colo., on Feb. 25, 1936. Four children were born to this union, Rodney, Kathy, Tom and Rick, during their 60 years of marriage. The family moved to Wauneta, Neb., in 1947, where they operated a dry cleaning business. Maxine also worked at the Enders Club restaurant and operated a Wards catalog business out of her home. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for several years and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She spent her free time enjoying bowling and was involved in several leagues. Maxine passed away on March 9, 2005, at the age of 86 years in Sidney, Neb. Preceding her in death were her parents, Grace and Orland Weesner; step father, Bill Gerbig; loving husband, Fred; brothers: Kenneth, Gayle and Lavere (Doc) and sisters: Aubrey, Mildred and Myrtle. She is survived by her children: Rodney and Pat of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tom and Norma of Jacksonville, Fla., Rick and Jolene of Chappell, Neb., and Kathy and Duane Jorgensen of Bassett, Neb.; 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Marcella Harper of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marthena Devore of Denver, Colo. Funeral services were held Monday, March 14, 2005, at Carpenters Funeral Home in North Platte and interment was at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb.

Dora Natalie Olmsted
Dora Natalie Olmsted, age 77, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at her home in Powell, Wyo. She was born April 2, 1927, near Mesa, N.M., the daughter of Robert H. and Goldie V. Porter Elliott. Following her graduation from nursing school, she began working in Portales, N.M., then moved to Indiana where she worked in nursing before moving to Cody, Wyo., in 1957. She worked at the hospital in Cody and became the director of nurses. She married Gene Olmsted March 25, 1960 in Powell. Over the years, Natalie, as she was known by everyone, became an accomplished seamstress and quilter and equally as skilled at knitting and crocheting. Though her special interest and greatest accomplishment was being the world's best grandma. Natalie was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Gene, of Powell; daughter Diann K. and husband, Fred D. Kidder, of Castle Rock, Colo.; four sons: Mark A. Olmsted and wife, Victoria A., of Lakewood, Colo., Andrew J. Olmsted and wife, Patricia A., of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., Frederick J. Olmsted and wife, Tracey L., of Ramona, Calif.; and Richard G. Olmsted of Eagle, Colo.; two brothers: John H. Elliott of Portales, N.M., and Tommy M. Elliott of Meade, Kan.; eight sisters: Lois W. Cavasos of Stanley, N.M., Irene H. Marshall of Las Cruces, N.M., Joan F. Goyne of Lubbock, Texas, Alice A. Gossett, Betty S. Gossett, R. Rose Rector, Burma L. Stark, all of Portales, N.M., and Mary E. Burch of Christianburg, V.A.; and nine grandchildren: Gregory A. Kidder, Michael L. Kidder, Leilani A. Olmsted, Marquis A. Olmsted, Shawn M. Olmsted, Ryan A. Olmsted, Ronnie Borrelli, Chance L. Olmsted and Trevor J. Olmsted. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wayne C. Elliott. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at the Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the funeral home, with interment of cremains to follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery at Powell at 4 p.m.

Otto Carl Dietrich Heinrich Bartels
Otto Carl Dietrich Heinrich Bartels was born March 13, 1903, to Carl and Dorothea M. (Fortkamp) Bartels on a farm near Elk Creek, Neb. As a young man, Otto moved with his parents and four siblings to a farm south of Enders, Neb. Otto attended school at Elk Creek, the Ough Divide, and St. Paul's Parochial School. He was baptized into the faith on April 5, 1903, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Elk Creek and confirmed in that same faith on March 19, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wauneta. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and participated in Walther League, the band and choir. In 1936, Otto married Ida Helen Damrow and they made their home on a farm south of Enders. This union was blessed with six children. Otto farmed for many years, first with a brother and then independently. Although they moved into the community of Wauneta in 1964, Otto remained active with the farm operation until well into his later years. Otto and Ida became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta. Throughout his life, Otto had many interests, but he was most passionate about music. A self taught musician, he played many instruments. In later years, he primarily focused on his love for the violin and piano. After a long, healthy and active life, Otto quietly passed away on Wednesday evening, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. He was 101 years of age. Survivors include his wife, Ida, of Wauneta, Neb.; son Wayne Bartels and wife, Donna, of Enders; son Dale Bartels and wife, Barbara, of Lewellen, Neb.; daughter Barbara and husband, Jerry Cooper, of Henderson, Nev.; daughter Lois and husband, Lee Glover, of Wauneta; son Allen Bartels and wife, Joyce, of Harvard, Neb.; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; sister, Elsie Becker and brother, Gustav Bartels and wife, Margie, all of Wauneta. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betty Morgan; grandchildren: Guy Morgan, Kim Cooper, Ricky Dunham and Sarah Bartels; and siblings: Arnold, Frieda Crosson, Reinhold, Alfred, Walter and Reuben. Funeral services for Otto were held Monday morning, Feb. 7, 2005, at 10 a.m. MT at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wauneta, with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Songs chosen by the family were "In the Garden," a duet sung by Brooke Cooper and mother, Barbara Cooper, accompanied by Barbara and the congregational hymns, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Standing on the Promises." Organist was Berneta Steinert. A tribute to grandpa was given by grandson Pete Bartels. Pallbearers were grandsons: Carl Bartels, Mike Cooper, Robbie Dunham, Peter Bartels, Skyler Bartels and Zackary Bartels. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta. A memorial has been established in Otto's memory. Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta was in charge of arrangements.

Loyce I. Teply
Loyce I. Teply passed away Feb. 5, 2005. She was born Loyce I. Hoback on April 7, 1911, to James Hoback and Alice L. Towne in Hayes Center, Nebr. Loyce was the eldest of six children. When she was a young girl the family moved to a farm west of Hayes Center. She attended a country school until she was 10 years old, then the family moved to the east edge of Wauneta. Her mother passed away when she was 16 and Loyce quit high school in Hayes Center to help take care of the three brothers and two sisters. On Aug. 5, 1935, she married Bill Neverve. She was a billing clerk for Southwest Public Power in Palisade, Neb., for many years prior to retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Melvin Dean and Neil Arden; two grandsons: Dale Lee Malone and Michael Dean Malone; two sisters: Gertrude and Lila and two brothers: Harvey and Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Ann White, son-in-law Jack White of Kennewick, Wash., two grandsons: Robin Neverve and James Malone and two granddaughters: Marci Jo Tobias and Tammy Rae Malone-Schwartz and five great grandchildren.
