Visitation will begin after 4 pm Monday at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a 4 pm Guild rosary and a 7 pm Vigil Monday at the Funeral Home. Visitation continues Tuesday Morning from 8-10 am at the funeral home. The burial will be at 2:30 pm at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Leshara, NE. Clara was born May 11, 1914 in Platte County to Frank & Mary (Duranski) Krzycki. She grew up in Platte County and attended District 9 school. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital from 1953-1979. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and St. Bonaventure Ladies Guild. She is survived by 3 sons, Ray of Leshara, Clarence of California, and Eugene of Oregon, one brother Edward of Columbus, one sister Valerie Kush of California, and a sister-in-law Juel Krzycki of Schuyler. She has 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services are 10:00 AM Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, NE. with Fr. Rod Kneifl. Burial is at Sts. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors by Parry Post #283 in Platte Center, NE. Visitation is from 3-5 PM Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6:00 PM Friday at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. There will be a 7:30 PM Vigil Friday at St. Joseph Church. Visitation will continue from 9:00 AM until Service time Saturday at St. Joseph Church. Duane was born February 26, 1924 in Platte Center to Felix & Leona (Lammers) Bruckner. Duane attended Platte Center High School and graduated from Creighton University. He married Mary Agnes "Aggie" Brockman at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lawrence, NE. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from March 1943 - December 1945 as a Technican Fourth Grade Transportation Corps stationed at Ft. Means, Alaska. He lived in Omaha before moving to Platte Center where he owned and operated Bruckner's Mercantile Store for 42 years. He was member and past commander of the American Legion, former Lions Club member &Lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #3704. He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, Endowment Fund, & Cemetery Board. Duane loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening. He is survived by:

Brewer was born November 21, 1915 in Spalding, Nebraska to Daniel and Bessie (Wanker) Brewer. On July 16, 1938 he was united in marriage to Erma Rae Crowe in Schuyler, Nebraska. Elon served in the U.S. Army during World War II from August 1945 to September 1946. The couple lived in Columbus where he worked for Beatrice Foods, Henke Manufacturing, and also owned and operated Elon's Drive Inn. Elon enjoyed collecting small gas engines and was a member of the Antique Tractor and Small Gas Engine Club. He is survived by:

Jarecki at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks. The couple farmed in the Columbus area until moving to a farm near Lindsay in 1942. Following retirement in 1971 they moved back to Columbus. Fr. Flavius Czuba, O.F.M.
Fr. Flavius Czuba, O.F.M., of Indian River, MI, died Sunday April 15, 2001 at the Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church (562 17th Avenue) in Columbus with Fr. Harry Speckman, O.F.M. officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 pm Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Anthony Church from 9:00 am until service time. Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Fr. Flavius was born Allen Czuba November 8, 1921 in Clarks, NE to Steve and Kathryn (Kush) Czuba. He moved to Fullerton, Nebraska in 1922 and then moved to Columbus, NE in 1926. He attended St. Anthony Elementary School in Columbus and in 1935 went to St. Joseph (Minor) Seminary in Westmont, Illinois. He entered the Franciscan Novititate in Teutopolis, Illinois in 1941. In August of 1942, Allen entered Our Lady of Angels Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio for two years of philosophy. In 1944 he entered the St. Joseph Theological Seminary in Teutopolis, Il. He was ordained at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis on December 19, 1947 and celebrated his first mass at St. Anthony Church in Columbus, NE on December 21, 1947. His first assignment was chaplain of Prison Farm in Vandalia, Il. He then went to St. Stanislaus Church in Cleveland, Ohio where he taught at the grade and high school until 1952. He was associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Omaha, NE from 1952-1954. He was the associate pastor and athletic director at St. Stanislaus Church in Cleveland, Ohio from 1954-1958. From 1958 to 1966, Fr. Flavius was guidance counselor and teacher at the St. Francis High School in Petoskey, Michigan and also Pastor of St. Nicholas Church in Larks Lake, Michigan from 1958-1971. During this same time Fr. was Pastor of Holy Cross Church in Cross Village, Michigan and St. Ignatius Church in Good Hart, Michigan. From 1971-1973 Fr. Flavius was Pastor for a short time at St. Anthony Church in Columbus, spent three months at the Catholic Theological Union as Pastor in Chicago, Il and the returned for a short time as Associate Pastor at St. Bonaventure Church and school in Columbus, NE. From 1973 to 1977 Fr. Czuba was Pastor of St. James Church in Riverton, Il and also Pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Buffalo, Il. While at St. Joseph's Church a new church and hall were built. He then came back to Columbus, NE and became Pastor of St. Bonaventure Church and School from 1977-1985. In 1985 he became Pastor of St. Philip Church in Stone Lake, WI until 1987. He then traveled to Washburn, WI where he was Pastor of St. Louis Church with a Mission at Cornucopia, WI until 1993. Since 1993, Fr. Flavius has been Senior Associate Pastor at the Cross of the Woods Church in Indian River, MI, the home of the world's largest Crucifix. Fr. Flavius celebrated his 50th Jubilee as a Priest on September 7, 1997 at the Cross of the Woods Church in Indian River, MI and again on September 21, 1997 at his home Parish, St. Anthony's Church in Columbus with a third celebration at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus where he had been the Pastor for eight years. She married Czeslaw "Chester" Kleszcz in 1951 in Poland. Following her marriage she lived in Borowa, Poland until March of 1986. Following the death of her son she moved to Chicago where she lived until July of 2000 when she moved to Silver Creek, Nebraska. While living in Chicago, she worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Kenneth V. Oakeson, 79, of Columbus died Wednesday April 25, 2001 at Genoa Long Term Care. Funeral Services are 10:30 am Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Ernest Smith and Rev. Steven Williams officiating. Visitation is from 3-8 pm on Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues at Peace Lutheran Church on Friday from 9:30 until service time with a family prayer service at 10:15. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Kenneth was born October 16, 1921 to Julius and Anna (Olson) Oakeson in Gregory County, SD. He enlisted in the US Navy on Dec. 16, 1941 and served on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He received the Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon with one Blue Star, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars and the WWII Ribbon. He was discharged on October 9, 1945. On July 17, 1948 he married Irene (Bruckner) Oakeson in Gregory County, SD. He worked for Minnegasco for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed all sports, fishing, and camping. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post # 84 where he served as past Commander, and was a life member of the VFW Post 3704. He was one of the organizers and coached Little League baseball and Pony League baseball for many years. Survivors include:

Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pauline was born January 10, 1919 in Burchard, Nebraska to John and Mary (Byrne) Carson. Pauline married Dr. Daniel S. Kavanaugh DDS on March 5, 1942 in Table Rock, Nebraska. She attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha and then worked at the County Extension Office in Pawnee City. In 1946 she and her husband moved to Columbus. She worked at the Nebraskaland Insurance, formerly known as Miller Allied Insurance and Potts Insurance. Pauline also worked at the Platte County Courthouse and also served as Deputy Register of Deeds from 1979 until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Bonaventure Parish for 55 years where she volunteered at the rectory. Wayne Gertsch
Wayne A. Gertsch, age 80, of Columbus, died Saturday; April, 21, 2001 at the Columbus Comunity Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday; April 25 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church will the Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Interment with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-9 at McKown Funeral Home. A vigil will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Wayne was born October 19, 1920 in Creston, Nebraska to Calvin & Mattie (Pilling) Gertsch. He married Carolyn Eva Laudenklaus on September 20, 1944 at Brownwood, Texas. He received his education at District #8 in Colfax County and at Kramer High School in Columbus. He worked as a farm hand prior to joining the U.S. Army in September 1942 where he was assigned to the 13th Armoured Division and received his training at Camp Walters, Texas. He spent a year in Germany 1945-46 receiving his discharge as a Cpl. Sgt on February 26, 1946. Folowing his discharge from the service he was employed for 25 years by the Bertchold Cattle Company and 10 years by Behlen Manufacturing. After his retirement he was self employed as an auto mechanic. Wayne is survived by:

Alfred A. Starostka, age 85, of Columbus, died Thursday, April 26 at the Columbus Manor. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m.; Monday April 30, 2001 at the McKown Funeral Home with Fr. Alfred was born November 28, 1915 in Silver CReek, Nebraska to John & Mary (Czarnick) Starostka. He married Lee Johnson-Conger on May 4 1963 in Madison, Nebraska. He received his education in Merrick County rural Schools. He grew up in the SIlver Creek area. Alfred worked for over 22 years at Husker Steel as a welder until his retirement in 1980. Duane Anthony Korus, age 68, of Columbus died Wednesday April 25, 2001 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend Chris Grimmond officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery - Platte Center, Ne. with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is after 5:00 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at church. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until servicetime at the church. Duane Anthony Korus was born June 13, 1932 in Platte County, Nebraska to Alois and Josephine (Zabawa) Korus. He attended school in Platte County. On January 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Greisen at St. Anthony Catholic Church rural Platte Center, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from August 1952 until August 1954, stationed in Okinowa. Duane lived and farmed near Platte Center until 1976 when he moved to Columbus.He also worked at Behlen Manufacturing from 1972 until his retirement in 1994. He was a member ot St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, was an avid gardener, enjoyed selling his produce, reading, and his grandkids. He is survived by:

She attended grade school in Tarnov and graduated from St. Francis High School in Humphrey in 1935. She then graduated from Wayne State Teachers College. She lived all her adult life in Omaha where she worked as an assistant in the payroll department at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Jozefa "Josephine" Kleszcz, age 70, of Silver Creek died Wednesday April 4, 2001 at Genoa Community Hospital. Services are 10:30 pm Monday April 9, 2001 at Ss. She married Czeslaw "Chester" Kleszcz in 1951 in Poland. Following her marriage she lived in Borowa, Poland until March of 1986. Following the death of her son she moved to Chicago where she lived until July of 2000 when she moved to Silver Creek, Nebraska. While living in Chicago, she worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Josephine is survived by her daughter: Mary (Albin) Ziemba of Silver Creek, 4 sons; Zbyszek and his wife Veronica of Norridge, Illinois, Romek and his wife Maria of Tarnov, Poland, Mark & his wife Urszula of Borowa, Poland, Stanistaw and his wife Jola of Debica, Poland, 2 brother-in-laws: Stanley and his wife Danusia Kleszcz of Lodz, Poland; Jan and his wife Paulina Kleszcz of Borowa, Poland. She lived in Shelby until 1986. In 1993 she moved to Columbus where she has lived since. In March of 2000 she retired from Vishay (Dale Electronic).
