Obituaries Published June 12, 2006

Jeremy Prettyman
Jeremy Prettyman, 30, died Sunday at a Hastings hospital. The Guide Rock resident's funeral is set for 10:30 Saturday at the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home, Red Cloud, with the Rev. Patsy Busey officiating. Burial will be in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 23, 1976, in Yuma, Ariz., and moved to Guide Rock later that year to live with his grandfather. He graduated from Guide Rock High School with the Class of 1994 and received an associate's degree in drafting from Central Community College.
He was employed by Vault Industries at Grand Island. Because of health complications in 2003 he returned to the farm north of Guide Rock and lived with his grandfather.
Survivors include his mother, Karen Prettyman, Hastings, and his grandfather, Owen Konzack, Guide Rock.

Harold Dunn
Harold Dunn, 77, Hastings, died Friday at Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.
Services are 11 a.m., Friday at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Superior, with the Rev. Leslie O. Warner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is 8 a.m., until 9 p.m. Thursday at Simonsen-Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud and 8 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home in Superior. Simonsen-Williams funeral home is in charge of arrantements.
Mr. Dunn was born July 9, 1929, to Jess and Bessie (Comstock) Dunn at Abdal. He attended Superior schools. He worked in the Superior area until he served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-49. He married Norma Joyce Higer Nov. 11, 1947, at Nelson. They lived on a farm in Jewell County, south of Superior until 1951, when they moved into town. In 1954 theymoved to Hastings where he was employed at Roger's Appliance and also worked for Thermo King Corp. for several years. He retired in 1991.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Royce, Cleveland Ohio; one sister, Donna Fullerton, Superior; two brothers, Dale of Superior and Merlyn of Casper, Wyo. and three grandchildren.

Donnabelle King
A former Superior resident, Donabelle Marie King, 85, died Friday at Beatrice. Services are at 10:30 today (Thursday) at the Harman-Wright Mortuary, Beatrice. Burial will be be in the Blue Springs Cemetery.
With her late husband, John, she previously operated a Gambles store in downtown Superior.
Survivors include one son, Gene, a colonel with the United States Army now making his home at Woodbridge, Va., a sister, Dorothy Edwards, Beatrice, and one grandson.

Roy Wood
Services for Roy Roger Wood, 65, Hazelhurst, Ga., were held June 7 in Oak Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. M. L. Ricks and the Rev. Albert Hewett oficiated with a eulogy given by Sara Odom. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. He died June 3.
Mr. Wood was a native of Jeff Davis County and was an electrical lineman with Southeast Power Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Wood, and mother, Ola Wood, and his brothers, Bobby and Howell Wood.
Survivors include his wife, of 30 years. Dayle Thompson Wood, Hazelwood, (formerly of Superior); a daughter, Dedra Anderson, Graham, Ga.; sons, Roger Wood of South Carolina and Donnie Wood, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Sara, Colten, James, Andrew, Ruth and Maggie, one great-grandson, Ashton; sisters, Doris Howell, Betty Deloach and Barbara Bridges, all of Claxton. Jean Brannen and Glenda Waters, both of Hazelhurst, and Evelyn Hewett, Plattsmouth, Neb., and a brother, Jimmy Wood, Jennings, Fla.
Pallbearers were Brian Mitchell, Ernesto (Jaun) Lopez, Randy Driggers, David Phillips, Colten Anderson and Glen Miley.

Richard Martin
Richard "Dick" C. Martin, 67, Dodge City, died Saturday at the Wichita Veterans Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1939, at Superior, the son of Harold and Helen McFarland Martin. A former Scott City, Kan., resident, he moved to Ft. Dodge, Kan., in 1997 and in March 2005 moved to Dodge City. He was a salesman and cowboy, retiring in June 1997. He enjoyed training dogs and horses.
He served in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a life member of the Howard Gottschall VFW Post and American Legion both of Dodge City.
On Dec. 6, 1964, he married Martha A. Richardson at Oakley. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Donald Dornon, Scott City, Frank Dornon, Russell, and John Martin, Copperas Cove, Texas, currently serving in Iraq; two daughters, Mrs. Tom Ludowese (Jean) and Mrs. Bill Chenoweth (Joan), Copperas Cove, Texas; his brother, Steve Martin, Belleville and two sisters, Virginia Rhoads, Superior, and Elaine Karnes, Poland, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Brian Chenoweth.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Dodge, with the Rev. Vernon Bogart presiding and military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post. There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place.

Ila Morgan
Ila Beth (Guill) Morgan, 85, died Dec. 22, 2005. Born in Dalton, Neb., Feb. 9, 1920 her childhood was spent on a wheat farm in western Nebraska. After high school in Sidney, she attended the Nebraska Teachers College at Chadron, where in 1939 she met and married her husband of 60 years, the late Harvey (Jack) Morgan of Bostwick. The young family moved to Eastern Washington in 1941 and to Bainbridge Island, Wash., in 1942. This was their home for 50 years.
Ila was active in her church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She enjoyed sewing, painting, golf and her family. She worked as a licensed beautician. In 1965 she returned to school and then worked at a bank in Seattle.
Following the retirement the couple moved to Kaiser, Ore. They traveled extensively including going to Europe three times. Following the death of Jack in July 1999, Ila moved back to Washington. She died at her home in Snohomish, Wash.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and one sister, Ethel Frieberg.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Sutherland, Lynwood, Wash.; Marilyn Casey, Fairfield, Va., Kathleen Bremerton, Wash., and Harvey Morgan, Snohomish, Wash., eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Bostwick Cemetery, Bostwick, Neb., with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiating.
Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, is in charge of the local arrangements.

Lon Adams
Lon Adams, 79, of Shell Knob, Mo., died June 26 at his home.
Services will be held Friday, June 30 at 11 a.m., at Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home. Burial will be at Minden, Neb.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Fohn Funeral Home.

Dr. Ruth Cook
Dr. Ruth Ileen Cook, 86, the daughter of Everett and Roxy (McKim) Cook was born Sept. 2, 1920 at Cozad. She died Monday at Rosebrook Care Center, Edgar.
After receiving her medical degree she was a general practitioner and surgeon working in a private practice at Denver. After closing her private practice she worked in a Veterans Administration hospital.
Survivors include a sister, Mickie Schneider, Sutton.
Private inurnment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin, at a later date.
Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior, is in charge of the arrangements.
