MADISON - Services for Edwin Nathan, 85, Fremont, formerly of Madison, are pending at the Resseguie Funeral Home here. He died on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Wayne Peterson
BASSETT - Services for Wayne E. Peterson, 89, Bassett, will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church here. Burial will be in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Hoch Funeral Home in Bassett from 1 p.m. Monday until service time on Tuesday.
He died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Mid Dakota Long Term Care Facility in Chamberlain, S.D.
Helen Kunz
Graveside services for Helen Marie (Gabelman) Kunz, 94, Carmel, Calif., formerly of Norfolk, will be 11 a.m. Monday at New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk.
She died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Hospice House in Monterey, Calif.
The daughter of Fred and Emma (Durkop) Gabelman was born on April 10, 1911, in Madison County. She married Elden Kunz on June 14, 1938. The couple made their home in Norfolk for five years before moving to Wayne. In 1945, they moved to Fremont.
Helen was a certified dental assistant and office manager for Drs. Frank Williams and Richard Sims in Fremont for more than 30 years. They lived in Fremont for 32 years before moving to Carmel Valley, Calif., to be near their daughters, Yvonne Lundquist and Pamela Scudder. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Elden’s death in 1993.
Helen was a member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church in Carmel, American Dental Assistants Association, Altrusa International, Women’s Club, Alliance on Aging and was a volunteer who helped cook meals for homeless men who were sheltered at St. Philip’s.
She had just completed the fourth quilt to be given to her grandsons - Mark Scudder and Tryg, Kurt and Wyn Lundquist.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Richard Lundquist of Carmel, Calif.; four grandsons; brother-in-law, Ed Halbur of Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Pamela Scudder.
Lay minister Earl Fuoss will officiate at the services on Monday.
Anita Beune
WISNER - Services for Anita Beune, 86, West Point, will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and continue Sunday one hour prior to service at the church.
She died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at West Point Living Center.
Anita Meta Hedwig Toelle was born Jan. 1, 1920, at rural Beemer to Edward and Mary (Schlueter) Toelle. She was baptized on Feb. 1, 1920, and later confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer. Anita attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School. She helped neighborhood farm families prior to her marriage.
On Sept. 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ortwin Beune at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer. The couple lived on a farm south of Wisner, where Anita was a seamstress out of her home. In 1976, she moved to West Point and became a resident five years ago at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. She entered the West Point Living Center on Dec. 15, 2005. Anita was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church and its Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also was a member of the Benefit Hour Extension Club. Anita enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, babysitting, growing African Violets and belonged to several card clubs.
Survivors include children and spouses, Nadine and husband Myron Drevlow of Holdingford, Minn., Boyd and wife Jeanette Beune of Wisner, Myrene and husband Jerry Johnson of Guymon, Okla.; two granddaughters and two great-grandsons; sister, Beata Brockmann of West Point; sisters-in-law, Naoma Toelle of Beemer and Mildred Toelle of West Point.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ortwin on May 3, 1973, one sister, Lenora Brockmann, and two brothers, Herman and Leonard Toelle.
Gerald Christensen
Graveside services for Gerald Christensen, 83, Orchard, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wagner, S.D., City Cemetery. He died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Antelope Memorial Hospital.
Delores Karabel
TILDEN - Services for Delores E. Karabel, 79, of Tilden will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden. Burial will be in the Tilden City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden.
Mrs. Karabel died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek.
The daughter of Richard and Rosa (Wieting) Rudnick was born May 2, 1926, at Tilden. She attended rural school and graduated with academic recognition. She attended Meadow Grove High School and graduated with the class of 1942. After graduation she completed normal training and taught rural school in Meadow Grove and Ainsworth.
On Dec. 15, 1946, she was married to Robert Karabel at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Buffalo Creek.Three children were born to them, Gary, Vicki and Tom. The couple lived and farmed south of Tilden.
Dolores was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was the church organist for many years. She also played for many other occasions. She was also a member of the Bakers Dozen Extension Club.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Battle Creek; daughter, Vicki Rundell and her husband, Steven of Pierce; two sons, Gary Karabel and his wife, Cecile of Tilden, and Tom Karabel of Tilden; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Fisher of Kingman, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Norman and Cecil; and two sisters, Leona and June.
Russell Sorensen
CREIGHTON - Services for Russell Sorensen, 85, of Creighton will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Creighton. Burial will be in the Page Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 1151 and American Legion Post 74 of Creighton.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.
Mr. Sorensen died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Creighton Area Health Services.
Leo Russell Sorensen, son of Soren C. and Sarah E. (Morgan) Sorensen, was born April 27, 1920, at their home in Belden. He attended rural schools and high school in Royal and Inman.
He was married to Margaret L. Murphy on March 31, 1946, at Plainview United Methodist Church. Two children were born to them, Patricia and David. Russell served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 21, 1942, to Oct. 15, 1945, serving in northern Africa and Italy. Following his service he worked as an auto mechanic in Oakland and Plainview. He began farming near Creighton in the spring of 1949 and retired to Creighton in 1995.
Russell was a member of Creighton United Methodist Church and was also a member of American Legion Post 74 and VFW Post 1151 of Creighton. He served as a member of the District 59 School Board, Cleveland Township Board, Farmer’s Union Co-op Board and served in various capacities at the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Creighton; children and their spouses, Pat Kennedy and her husband, Rod of Page, and David and Shirley Sorensen of Creighton; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Nissen of O’Neill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and a sister, Charles, William, Soren Jr., Robert and Shirley Connery.
Alyce Hartford
Services for Alyce Hartford, 69, Norfolk, were Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in Stanton. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery. The Rev. Timothy Booth officiated.
She died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Music was by the congregation and Carol Whipple, organist.
Honorary pallbearers were Jessica Showalter, Jenna Showalter, Kelsey Signor, Emily Signor and Brandi Signor.
Pallbearers were Brian Signor, Roger Showalter, Steven Doorenbos, Ryan Showalter, Zachary Doorenbos and Phil Hester.
Hazel Buckendahl
Services for Hazel A. Buckendahl, 102, formerly of Pierce, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln with burial in the Malvern, Iowa, Cemetery. Ludvigsen Mortuary of Fremont is in charge.
She died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Lakeview Nursing Home in Firth.

WISNER - Services for James P. “Jimmy” Murphy, 80, Wisner, will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is in charge of arrangements.
