U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Gene Buckendahl
PIERCE - Memorial services for Gene Buckendahl, 71, Pierce, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel here with private burial and military rites by Tomek-Otto American Legion Post.

Conrad Kaup
CROFTON - Conrad J. Kaup, 90, formerly of Crofton, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with burial at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. and a vigil at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton is in charge of arrangements.

Eula Ritterbush
BASSETT - Services for Eula Harlan Ritterbush, 80, of Bassett were Tuesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church under the direction of Hoch Funeral Home. She died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Rock County Hospital.

Memorials are directed to Rock County Long Term Care or Valley Grove Chapel.

Keith Lenton
Services for Keith D. Lenton, 80, Hadar, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

He died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

He was born Feb. 4, 1926, at Randolph to Gomer and Irma (Copple) Lenton. He attended Randolph Public Schools. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married to Kathleen Thelen on Aug. 12, 1945 at Randolph. They lived on a farm north of Randolph until 1959. They then moved to Hadar, and they owned and operated the trailer court. He also drove a bus for 35 years for Arrow Stage lines of Norfolk. He also enjoyed farming with his son, Terry, west of Hadar.

He was a member of the Hadar Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, Hadar Public School Board and VFW of Norfolk.

Survivors include one son, Terry and his wife, Patty, of Hadar; one daughter, Karen Sovereign and her husband, Mike, of Hadar; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Philips and her husband, Richard, of Akron, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen, in October 1996 and a son, Delwin, in October 1972.

The Rev. Lee Weander will officiate with music by organist Mary Bruckner.

Casket bearers will be Chad Bernhardt, Mark Sovereign, Mike Munn, Brandan Sovereign and Dan Thelen. Honorary casket bearers will be Mason Munn, Isaiah Munn, Trevor Lenton, Netahlya Munn, Lily Munn and Amber Sovereign.

Mario Navarrete
Services for Mario Jose Navarrete, 49, Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Nicaragua. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Thursday at Home for Funerals and 7-8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 p.m. rosary.

He died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.

Alan Van Ert
Services for Alan D. Van Ert, 47, of Omaha will be at noon Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Home for Funerals.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Interdenominational Church in Omaha.

Mr. Van Ert died at his home Friday, Aug. 5, 2006.

Alan’s mission statement: For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21

Alan was born on April 7, 1959, to Paul and Mabel (Nelson) Van Ert. He attended rural schools through the sixth grade and graduated from Elkhorn Valley High School in 1977. He attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk and Northwest Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn.

He worked at KOTA TV station in Rapid City, S.D., in video production. He ran the ambulance service in Chamberlain, S.D., and worked as an EMT in Norfolk and in Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked with Lowell Lundstrom Ministries in Minneapolis.

After moving to Lincoln, he started the Living Word Singers Ministry. While in Lincoln, he worked at Channel 10/11 TV, Lincoln General Hospital and Northwest Fire Department as a volunteer fireman. Alan was in Civil Defense as a nexrad radar interpreter and training officer. He started Public Safety Systems Inc.

Alan had his commercial pilot’s license and was a flight instructor. He was a senior director in his Melaleuca home-based business. He moved to Omaha, where he was a commercial driver for Arrow Bus Lines and published its monthly newsletter. Alan enjoyed scuba diving and was a dive master. His last job was at Netshops as a vendor specialist.

Alan was a member of Trinity Interdenominational Church in Omaha. His interest in missions took him on a trip to Jamaica. Alan did many things in his lifetime; he especially enjoyed meeting new people and embracing life. He never knew a stranger and gave all of himself to everyone he knew. Alan loved and lived his faith. His family and friends were very important to him and he will be missed greatly by many.

He is survived by his mother, Mabel Van Ert; sisters, Kathy Schwalm of Mitchell, S.D., and Lisa Redding and her husband, Chuck of Martell; one brother, Dr. Gary Van Ert and his wife, Lisa, of Chamberlin, S.D.; nieces, Jenny Schwalm, Erin, Elizabeth, Leslie, Emily Van Ert and Kimberly Redding; nephews, David Schwalm and Kyle Redding.

His best friend of 13 years was Nate Eslinger of Omaha.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Paul Van Ert, and brother-in-law, Jerry Schwalm.

The Rev. Walter Nolte will officiate.

Duane Booth
CREIGHTON - Memorial services for Duane F. Booth, 70, of Creighton will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Creighton with private family inurnment services at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Mr. Booth died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services following a long battle with cancer.

Robert Scott
TILDEN - Services for Robert “Bob” Scott, 84, of Tilden were Monday at Faith United Methodist Church with burial in the Tilden Cemetery under the direction of Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home.

He died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.

Robert “Bob” Scott, son of C.C. and Ruth (Beck) Scott, was born on March 24, 1922, at Tilden. He attended Bunker Hill School and graduated from Tilden High School in 1939. Bob farmed on the Scott family farm with his parents.

On Aug. 17, 1968, he was married to Selma Whitwer, and they lived on the farm and later moved into Tilden. After they retired, they lived in Mesa, Ariz., for six months of the year.

Bob was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden and the Antelope County Golf Course at Neligh. He was a baseball player with the Neligh Legion and the Tilden Town Team and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed children, his nieces, nephews, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his brother, Jim and wife Bell Scott of Bloomfield; his sister, Janet Curry of Lincoln; three stepchildren, Jeanne and husband Dr. Galen Marks of San Diego, Calif., Karen and husband Mike Mullins of Monument, Colo., and Morris Whitwer of Oakland, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Selma; three sisters, Florence, Aubyn, and Clara; and a brother, C.B. Scott.

Marvin Cross
CREIGHTON - Private family graveside services for Marvin C. Cross, 85, of Creighton will be at St. Ludger Cemetery in Creighton at a later date. Brockhaus Funeral Home of Creighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cross died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at the Norfolk Veterans Home.

Loren Moody
Services for Loren K. Moody, 62, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Home for Funerals with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.

Loren was born on April 24, 1944, at West Point, the son of Peter A. and Helen R. (McKenzie). He moved with his parents north of Hoskins and then graduated from Winside High School. Farming had been his life work.

He married Patricia Sisson on Jan. 7, 1994, in Madison. The couple then moved to Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son, Craig, and his wife, Melissa Sisson of Norfolk; one daughter, Pam, and her husband, Condie Jenkins, and three grandchildren, Shelby Jenkins, Zachary Jenkins and Condie Jenkins, all of Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jeanna Mailliard
Services for Jeanna J. Mailliard, 86, of Norfolk will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Howser-Fillmer Mortuary with a rosary at 7 p.m.

She died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services.

She was born May 23, 1920, to James and Winnie (LaValley) Lambert in Dell Rapids, S.D. She was raised by her stepfather, John Butler, and her mother, Winnie. She lived in Scribner before moving to Norfolk. She attended school in Norfolk.

She married Eugene Mailliard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk on Nov. 18, 1942.They lived in Oceanside, Calif. She moved back to Norfolk and worked for DeLay First National Bank and later for O‘Neill Studio.

She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; a daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Lowell Uttecht of Norfolk; a son, Rusty, and his wife, Debbie of Omaha; grandchildren, Dawn (Uttecht) Rigby, Dr. Russell Uttecht, Angela Yans, Rob Uttecht, Tim Uttecht, Chris Mailliard and Allyson Mailliard; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather.

The Rev. Walter Nolte will officiate.

Keith Lenton
Services for Keith Lenton, 80, Hadar, are pending at Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. He died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
