Agnes Price rites held Friday
Agnes Margarite (Hovorka) Price died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Hemingford Community Care Center., Hemingford, Nebraska. She was 90.
She was born September 1, 1912 in rural Box Butte County to Albert and Emma (Teansky) Hovorka. Agnes attended rural schools in Sioux and Box Butte Counties. She graduated as class valedictorian in 1929 from Hemingford High School at the age of 16.
On October 31, 1929 she was united in marriage to Charles S. Price at the Congregational Church in Hemingford.
Her primary interests were her family and friends. She enjoyed attending the Methodist Church until her health failed and then looked forward to the spiritual support of Reverend Collins.
She was very active in the H.O.A. Club. She held numerous offices in the Hemingford American Legion Auxiliary and received many honors at the State level.
Her survivors include her daughters Donna Dufek of Alliance, NE, Louise Morava of Marsland, NE, grandchildren, Terry (Steve) Bonds, Sherry (Don) Hunter, Greg (Sandi) Morava, Steve (Susan) Morava, great grandchildren, Heather (Jon) Hauschild, Jenny, Alicia, Justin and Whitney Morava, great-great-granddaughter, Carson Grace Hauschild.
Her parents, husband, brother Victor, sister Eleanor, son-in-law Dallas Dufek, and granddaughter Gailene Morava, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 13, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, with Reverend Craig Collins officiating. Burial was in the Hemingford Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Hemingford American Legion Auxiliary, Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William J. Iodence
William J. Iodence, 74, died Friday, June 13, 2003 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.
He was born June 27, 1928 at Alliance, Nebraska, to Charles Gladstone and Mary (Kriz) Iodence.
On March 26, 1983 he married Jan Day in Colorado.
Bill ranched all of his life. His herd of Hereford cattle had it’s beginning in 1913 from his grandfather and was known as one of the top herds in the nation at that time. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, and Nebraska Cattleman’s Association. He had been co-owner of the Alliance Sale Barn, and previous owner of the Crawford Sale Barn. He hosted 49 consecutive bull sales at his ranch. He was the proud winner of many rodeos, fishing and golf tournaments and enjoyed spending his winters in Mexico with his wife Jan.
His survivors include his wife Jan, his son Tom Iodence and wife Gail of Alliance and their children, Amy and husband Brian Sherlock, Tim Iodence and great-grandson Kaleb Hudson, daughter Charlene Solberg of Alliance, her children Heath Solberg and wife Destiny, Justin Solberg and great-grandson Zane, Bill’s children’s mother Evelyn Iodence of Hemingford, his stepdaughter Kelly Thompson of Fort Collins, CO and her children Josie, Adam, Henry, Kristi and Matt, stepson James Day of Fort Collins, CO, and his children Daniel, Jessie and David. He is also survived by his brother Charles Iodence of Hemingford and his sister Mary Elizabeth Hollinrake of Hemingford and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bill Iodence Ranch, 6 miles north of the 16-mile corner.
Memorials for a scholarship for the Curtis Ag School can be sent in care of the family at 351 CR 59, Alliance, NE 69301 or given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

John Wesley Laeger
John Wesley Laeger, 93, died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the Box Butte General Hospital, in Alliance, Nebraska.
He was born August 5, 1909 at Diller, Nebraska to August H. and Vina Ann (Holland) Laeger.
He married Hazel Hackett November 16, 1932 at Lincoln, Nebraska. She preceded him in death. On July 14, 1974 he married Alice Wilson at Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
He was a longtime farmer and rancher and had sold Pioneer Seed Corn, for many years. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1938 where he served as an Elder for many years. He served as a Box Butte County Commissioner from 1972 through 1976, and was also on the Box Butte General Hospital Board from 1980 through 1993, and was a director on the Hemingford Chamber of Commerce Board 1984-1986, and he was also on the Hemingford Centennial Committeee..
He is survived by his wife Alice Laeger of Hemingford; his children and their spouses, Elaine and Jack Jones of Wheatland, Wyoming, Bob and Elaine Laeger of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wayne and Rita Laeger of New Braunfels, Texas, Frank and Andrea Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and Sherri and Art Reyes of Alliance. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sherri Wheeler of Loveland, Colorado, Julie Collette of Denver, Colorado, Lori Goebel of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Trisha Reinert of Corvallis, Oregon, Brad Laeger of DeVille, Louisiana, Lissa Ryder of DeVille, Louisiana, Brenda Smith of Longview, Texas, Derek Reyes of Alliance, Nebraska, and Joshua Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, sisters, Ruth Rees and Clara Glass, brothers, Homer, Roy, and Alva Laeger, and his grandson, Charlie Wilson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Hemingford. Reverend Jim Hoehn, President of the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiated. Burial was in the Hemingford Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Naomi Eckman Barrow
Naomi Eckman Barrow died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at her home in Alliance, Nebraska, at the age of 91.
She was born August 5, 1911 on a homestead five miles north of Antioch in Sheridan County to John and Mary (Bauer) Eckman. Along with her younger sister Veta, the family moved to a ranch 32 miles northeast of Alliance in 1919, where Naomi spent her remaining childhood. This ranch is still owned by the family. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1930.
On February 1, 1936 she married Frank Barrow in Alliance.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Alliance Eagles Auxiliary #136 where she had served as past-president.
Her survivors include many cousins in the Alliance area. Her parents, husband, sister Veta Hargrove preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Roosa officiating. Burial was in the Alliance Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or to the Eagles Auxiliary.

Elma E. Honstein
Elma E. Honstein, 96, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering, NE. She was born July 23, 1907, at Hoisington, KS, the daughter of Fred and Marie (Bender) Roehrick.
The family moved to the Bayard, Nebraska area in 1915.
She was married to Henry E. Honstein on April 25, 1924, at Blue Earth, MN. To this union, six children were born.
In 1941, the couple moved back to Nebraska, settling in the Minatare area where they farmed. A few years later, they moved to the Morrill area where they farmed until Henry’s death in 1962.
In 1976, Elma moved to a home on the Bob and Lorraine Thomas farm south of Mitchell. She resided in her own residence until moving to Heritage Health Care Center in Gering in December of 2000.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry E. and Helen Honstein of Hay Springs, NE, Floyd L. and Ruth Honstein of Yoder, WY, and Ronald F. Honstein of Lyman, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Elsie I and Rudy Wacker of Alliance, NE, Lorraine N. and Robert Thomas of Mitchell, NE, and Gladys D. Lyman of Highland, CA; 24 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildfren. She is also survived by brother, Edward Roehrick, half-sisters, Elsie (Leis) Kraft and Leona (Leis) Majersic; and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Dee) Roehrick and Mrs. Herbert (Molly) Roehrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandsons Joey Wilhelm and Danny Honstein; one great-grandson; one great-great grandson; sister Emma Michael; brothers Paul, Herbert and Ted Roehrick, and half-brother Melvin Leis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell, NE, with Rev. Rick Reisig and Pastor Dan Johnson officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill.
Memorials may be given to KDMI, Heritage Health Care Center, or Prairie Haven Hospice.

Bobby Newman
Bobby Lee Newman was born April 1, 1932 in Hamlet, Neb. and departed this life April 22, 2004, in Orlando, Fla.
Graveside inurnment services were held Saturday, May 29, 2004, 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Neb. with Pastor Michael Laing officiating.
Soloist was Mrs. Sharon Walgren and a poem was recited by Mr. Robert Gage.
Military rites were by the American Legion Post #304, Wauneta, Neb. with Liewer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Delman ‘Del’ Polly
Delman "Del" Roger Polly, 61, died Friday, May 28, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident, in Springfield, Mo.
Del was born Nov. 9, 1942 in Imperial, Neb., to Bernard Polly and Sylvia Katharine Polly. He married Darlene Fisher Barnett on Nov. 29, 1997. Del was employed with Bank One in Springfield and previously worked at Meeks Lumber.
Survivors include his wife Darlene; step-children Stephanie Yost of Wichita, Kan., Steven Barnett of Edgerton, Kan., Terri Herman of Rogersville, Mo., and Audrey Barnett of Anadarko, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and one brother James Polly of Phoenix, Ariz.
Funeral services were June 1 at the Council House Church, with Rev. Larry Prickard officiating. Burial followed at Council House Cemetery, Grove, Okla.

Garrett Dudden
Garrett Burnhard Dudden, age 92, of Venango, passed away Monday evening, May 31, 2004 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Garrett was born April 18, 1912 at Kenesaw, Neb., the son of Barney A. and Belle A. (Collins) Dudden.
When he was six months old his family moved to Sedgwick County, Colo., about nine miles west northwest of Venango, Neb. Garrett attended country schools until the third grade when the family moved to Venango.
He recalled that at that time Venango had only a few hours of lights and power, no phones, no fire department and no water works; people used their windmill supply tanks. Shortly after 1920 he remembered a new water system and telephone coming to town and 24-hour electricity added.
His first job when he was still a very young boy was feeding and milking the family cows and selling the milk in Venango.
About 1925 his father, Barney, began a grain business in Venango, buying grain and scooping it onto box cars sitting on the railroad tracks. That business evolved into the Dudden Elevators in Venango, Brandon, Lamar and Big Springs. In addition Garrett was a farmer and John Deere equipment dealer.
Garrett married Martha Jane Wilson on May 26, 1934 at Trumbull. They had two sons, Richard A. (Joan) and Perry (Lasca) Dudden; two grandson, Brent A. and Todd A. Dudden; step grandsons Tyson, Bryan and Patrick Searcy; great grandson, Taj Dudden; great granddaughters Tara and Dayna Dudden; step grandson Johnnie Dudden and god-daughter, Patricia (Mort) Toft.
Garrett learned to fly in 1947 and owned and flew many Beechcraft airplanes; he built the airport in Venango which is still operational.
Garrett was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City, Ariz.; the Venango Lions Club, 32nd degree Masons, Eastern Star, Shrine and Ogallala Elks Lodge. He was President of the Midwest Farm Equipment Association, Nebraska Grain and Feed Dealers Association and on the Board of Directors of the National Grain and Feed Dealers Association for three years. He was also very active with the Venango town board, the Venango school board and Venango Lions Club for many years.
He and Martha Jane retired to Sun City, Ariz. in September of 1989 and lead a very active lifestyle until Martha Jane’s death in December of 1996.
Garrett remained in Sun City until 2000 when he moved back to Ogallala, Neb. where he lived with his son Dick and wife Joan. The family returned to Venango in October of 2001, with winters spent in Garrett’s beloved Sun City home.
The family plans a memorial service for Garrett in late June.
Memorials may be sent to the Venango Community Church or the Hastings Memorial Library in Grant in his memory.

Michael ‘Mick’ Loges
Michael (Mick) Dean Loges, 50, formerly of Hanover, Kan., died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Hutchinson. Services were held May 21 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover.
Mr. Loges served in the Air Force and then the National Guard. He had worked in Leoti, Garden City and Hutchinson and had been employed at the Collingwood Grain Elevator the past five years.
He was born Dec. 22, 1953, in Hanover, the son of Elmer and Eileen Loges. He attended Hanover Grade School and graduated from Hanover High School in 1972. He later graduated from Fort Hays State University.
Mr. Loges was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Anna Loges and Herman and Martha Allerheilzen.
Survivors include his parents, Elmer and Eileen Loges; two brothers, David Loges and his wife, Kim, Imperial, and Gordon Loges and his wife, Bev, Hollenberg, Kan.; two sisters Cindy Eck and her husband, Calvin, Canton, Kan., and Kay Goss and her husband, Randy, McPherson, Kan.; three nephews, Andrew Loges, Kirk Loges and Chane Helm; and five nieces, Amanda Goss, Linzy Goss, Naomi Loges, Tara Eck and Erin Loges; and one great-niece, Joseylyn Helm.
Burial was in Hanover Cemetery.

William Gilbert
Funeral services for William "Bill" Gilbert, age 85, of Imperial, Neb. were held Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Enid, Okla. with the Rev. John McLemore officiating.
Burial followed services in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born April 5, 1919 in Enid, Okla. to George and Nannie Craig Gilbert and died May 20, 2004 in Imperial, Neb.
He married Opal Goodale on Aug. 9, 1942 in Enid, Okla.
He enlisted in the Air Force Nov. 16, 1945 and retired on June 1, 1967. He was a member of the Central Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife Opal of Imperial, Neb.; sons, Charles Gilbert and wife Anne and their children Adam and Amy of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and James Gilbert and wife Alda and their children Gregory and Jennifer of Mountain Home, Ark.; daughter, Linda Jantz and husband Gary of Imperial, Neb. and their children, Jason Jantz and wife Teresa and son Issac, Holly Jantz and daughter Makayla, Mark Jantz, Cody Jantz and Daniel Jantz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Henninger-Allen Funeral Home of Enid, Okla. and Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial, Neb. were in charge of arrangements.
