Maurice A. Jacques, LACONIA

LACONIA - Maurice A. Jacques, 88, of Summer Street died Wednesday at Mountain Ridge Center Genesis Eldercare Network in Franklin. He was born in Laconia, the son of Joseph and Alice (Dickner) Jacques. He was a lifelong resident of Laconia. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He served in the Seabees during World War II. Jacques worked at the family business, Laconia Awning and Glass Co., where he later become part owner. He later worked as maintenance supervisor for the General Services Administration. He also worked part time for the Simoneau and Son Funeral Home and Ambulance Service for many years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish. He was a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks, the VFW Post 1670, the Wilkins-Smith Post No. 1 and the American Legion, all of Laconia, and Lakes Region Island X-4. Survivors include a daughter, Sally Rowe of Gilford; a sister, Natalie Day of Laconia; three grandchildren, Ronald Rowe and Lynne Rowe, both of Meredith, and Tony Rowe of Laconia; four great-grandchildren; and three nephews. His longtime companion, Claire Dedard, died in 1991. A brother, Ronald Jacques, and three sisters, Gertrude Champagne, Jeannette Truchon and Alicia Jarvis, also died previously. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simoneau and Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia. The Laconia Lodge of Elks will hold a service at 7 p.m. during calling hours at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia. The Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be held later in the spring at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Ridge Center Patient Activities Fund, 7 Baldwin St., Franklin 03235.

Alice M. Davis, COLUMBIA

COLUMBIA - Alice Mary Davis, 72, formerly of Weare, died Monday at the Coos County Nursing Home in West Stewartstown. She attended schools in Everett, Mass. She lived in Weare and Zephyrhills, Fla., before moving to Columbia last year. Davis and her husband owned and operated the Crobys Store in North Weare for seven years. She worked as a self-employed floral designer in Weare, Connecticut and Homosassa, Fla., retiring in 1989. Her husband, Richard Davis, died in 1989. Survivors include three sons, James Davis of Columbia, Richard Davis of Glendora, Calif., and William Davis of Oklahoma; two sisters, Barbara Elia of Antrim and Irene Davis of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Elder James Davis from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Randolph will officiate. Burial will be held in the sprint at North Branch Cemetery in Antrim. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Donald F. Blajda, GILMANTON

GILMANTON - Donald F. Blajda, 69, of Snowshoe Hill Road, died Sunday at Franklin Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Manchester, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Zdon) Bladja. He was raised in Manchester and lived there before moving to Rocky Pond in Gilmanton in the early 1970s. He wintered in Port Charlotte, Fla., for 13 years following his retirement. He attended Central High School and New Hampshire Vocational School in Manchester. Blajda served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for F.B. Connors Construction Co. in Nashua and later as assistant manager of the Nashua Singer Sewing Machine Store. He also worked as a DJ and performed at functions throughout the area. He was an avid golfer and the 1960 club champion at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. He also enjoyed fishing. He was an accomplished musician and formed the Don Flory Trio, which he played in for more than 20 years at many Manchester area clubs and at the Kings Grant Inn in Laconia. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Belmont. He was a member of the Manchester local of the Carpenters and Joiners Union. He was also a member of the Henry J. Sweeney Post American Legion of Manchester. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Florence (St. Laurent) Blajda of Gilmanton; a son, Donald Blajda of Canterbury; a daughter, Donna Dunbar of Barnstead; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Simoneau and Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Parish, corner of Church Street and Main Street in Belmont. Urn burial will be held at New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 66 Hanover St., Ste. 101, Manchester 03101-2230.

Kathleen Aldrich

Kathleen Aldrich, 79, of Christian Avenue in Concord died Sunday at Concord Hospital. She was born in New London, the daughter of Herbert and Vera (MacFarland) Farnum. She attended schools in Penacook and New London, graduating from Penacook High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Keene Teacher's College and a master's degree from the University of New Hampshire. She worked teaching in elementary schools in Walpole, Rye and Salem for 13 years and later as a reading and testing specialist in the Salem School District for 10 years before retiring. Aldrich was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the A.A.U.W., A.A.R.P. and the New Hampshire Retired Teacher's Association. Survivors include a son, Andrew Aldrich of Salem; a brother, Hurbert Farnum of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and three nephews, a niece and four cousins. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in New London. The Rev. Richard Dutton, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring at Elkins Cemetery in Elkins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Tinnitus Association, P.O. Box 5, Portland, Ore. 97207. Chadwick Funeral Home in New London is in charge of the arrangements.

SUTTON - Jan M. Norris, 55, of Rowell Hill Road, died Saturday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Potsdam, N.Y., the daughter of Donald and Emma (Nunez) Parisian. She graduated from Potsdam (N.Y.) High School in 1966 and attended Canton Technical College in Canton, N.Y. Norris lived in Nashua for two years, Friendship, N.Y., for six years, and Williston, Vt., for 12 years before moving to Sutton 10 years ago. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed flower gardening, quilting and knitting. She was a member of the USTA. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Stephen Norris of Sutton; a son, Timothy Norris of Denver; a daughter, Molly Kidane of North Sutton; a brother, David Parisian of Fulton, N.Y.; two sisters, Carol Woytowich of Malone, N.Y., and Donna Poyer of Charlestown, S.C.; two grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of New London. The Rev. Richard Dutton, pastor, will officiate. A reception will follow. Ruth E. Edwards, LOUDON

LOUDON - Ruth E. Edwards, 74, of Pleasant Street died Saturday at home. She was born in Boston, the daughter of John and Mary (Scott) Kent. She worked as a seamstress for Globe Firefighters Suit Co. and as a seamstress for Concord Hospital. Edwards loved reading, gardening and going to the ocean. Survivors include five sons, Alan Edwards of Danbury, Bruce Edwards of Bradford, James Edwards of Boscawen, Glen Edwards of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Perry Edwards of Manchester; four daughters, Lee Vantil of Andover, June Cooper of Franklin, Ruth Cline of Franklin and Pearl Aznive of Loudon; three brothers, Bill Kent of Pennsylvania, Roger Kent of Hummerock, Mass., and Edward Kent of Florida; two sisters, Jean Haley of Berkley, Mass., and Mary Boucher of Hyde Park, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Howard Edwards, died in 1985; and two brothers; John Kent and Richard Kent, and a sister, Barbara Smith, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Stephen Ludwick will officiate. Burial will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice Care, P.O. Leo A. Buss, LYNCHBURG, Va.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Leo Alfred Buss died March 13 of apparent heart failure. He was born in Bennington, Vt., the son of Jesse and Rose Buss. He was raised in Concord. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1963. Buss served in the military for more than 30 years. He served as a private in the Army Signal Corps in the European Theatre of Operations from 1940 until moving to the Air Force in 1947. He served in the United States, Japan and Germany before retiring in 1970. He then served in the federal government from 1971 to 1984, serving in the Executive Office of the President and Department of Commerce. He obtained the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served as a delegate and U.S. spokesman to many international telecommunications conferences and as chairman of the Interdepartmental Radio Advisory Committee in the Executive Office of the President upon his retirement in 1984. He was a two-time Legion of Merit recipient and earned the following campaign and service medals: European African Middle Eastern Service Medal (with two stars), the World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Distinguished Service Badge (with Oak Cluster), Air Force Reserve Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal (with Oak Cluster). Survivors include his second wife, Ann (Normyle) Buss of Lynchburg Va.; two sons, Leo Buss of Durham, Conn., and Mark Buss of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth Schultz of Portland, Ore., and six grandchildren. His first wife, Margaret (Nyhan), died in 1993. A Mass will be held Thursday at St. Thomas More Church in Lynchburg, Va. Burial will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Carl J. Cuddemi , MARYLAND

MARYLAND - Carl Joseph Cuddemi, 60, died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Concord and had lived in Bel Air, Md., since 1988. He worked as pressroom manager for Rock-Tenn Co. for the past 15 years. Survivors include his mother, Beatrice Gaczewski of Florida; his wife of 39 years, Sharon (Faretra) Cuddemi; a son, David Cuddemi; a daughter, Kristen Cuddemi; a brother, Frank Lucia of Concord; a sister, Roxanne Rears of Florida; and six grandchildren. Calling hours were held yesterday and will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Evans Funeral Chapel in Forest Hill, Md. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jeffrey L. Barton, JERICHO, Vt.

JERICHO, Vt. - Jeffrey Leo Barton, 35, died Tuesday at home. He was born in Concord, the son of Leo and Carol (Cutting) Barton Jr. He graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School. He owned and operated J.B. Masonry in Jericho, Vt. Barton loved the outdoors and nature and enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling in the mountains and deer hunting. Survivors include his parents of West Bolton, Vt.; twin sons, Justin and Jason Barton of Jericho, Vt.; two sisters, Kerri Barton of West Bolton, Vt., and Dori Barton of Huntington, Vt.; a grandmother, Cecile Cutting of Penacook; and his companion, Vicky Streeter of Jericho, Vt. Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St., Richmond, Vt. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vermont Special Olympics of Chittenden County, P.O. Box 1055, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Melvin L. Leonard, CONTOOCOOK

CONTOOCOOK - Melvin L. Leonard, 78, of Tucker Drive, died Wednesday at the Hospice House in Concord. He was born in Stoughton, Mass., the son of Melvin and Dora (Morrisey) Leonard. He was raised in Stoughton, Mass., and later moved to New Hampshire, where he lived in Woodstock before moving to Contoocook. Leonard served with the 1st Marine Division during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He received two Purple Hearts for wounds received at Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was self-employed as a master electrician. Survivors include his wife, Lee (Wilder) Leonard of Contoocook; three brothers, Charles Leonard and Roy Leonard, both of Stoughton, Mass., and Earl Leonard of Lake Placid, Fla.; three sisters, Barbara Leonard of Stoughton, Mass., Dorothy Daley of Merrimack and Gertrude O'Leary of Plymouth, Mass.; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hopkinton. The Rev. Hays Junkins, rector, will officiate. Burial services will follow at 1 p.m. at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorial donations may be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice House, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797. Petit Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of the arrangements.
