NORTHWOOD - Robert J. Thomas Jr., 53, of Harmony Road, died yesterday at home. He was born in Concord, the son of Robert Sr. and Patricia (Nolin) Thomas of Concord. He graduated from Bishop Brady High School in 1968 and earned a degree in business from St. Anselm College in 1972, where he was a member of the ski team. He worked as a self-employed executive career counselor and chief executive officer of Thomas and Kavanaugh in Northwood. He was a member of the PBOE Lodge No. 1210 in Concord; a past member of the Concord Country Club; and was an Alcohol Awareness counselor. Survivors include his mother of Concord; his wife, Carol (Ferns) Shurtleff Thomas of Northwood; two sisters, Robin St. Pierre of Loudon and Tracy Azarian of Goffstown; a brother, Sean Thomas of Scarborough, Maine; two nieces and a nephew; and caregivers Christopher Vincent and Judith Rowe. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105; or to Bishop Brady High School, 25 Columbus Ave., Concord 03301.

SOUTH SUTTON - Martha Wells, 77, of Dodge Hill Road, died Wednesday at The Clough Center in New London. She was born in Abington, Pa., the daughter of Peter Walz and Martha (Mills) Schwab. She graduated from Mariemont High School in Cincinnati in 1944 and attended Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She moved to South Sutton in 1946. Wells was active in costume design and creation at Colby-Sawyer College and taught a course on that subject. She later worked as clerk and display manager at the College Sport Shop in New London. She was a member of the Sutton Historical Society, the New Hampshire Historical Society, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, the New London Hospital Auxiliary and Musterfield Farm Museum. She served as a past supervisor of the checklist in Sutton, was a former trustee of the Pillsbury Library and was interested in the history of Sutton, the State of New Hampshire, the United States and Great Britain. She enjoyed musical theater, gourmet cooking and crewel embroidery. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, George Wells of South Sutton; a son, George Wells III of South Sutton; a daughter, Sally Claroni of Rutherfordton, N.C.; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother, Peter Schwab, and a sister, Betsy Newton, died previously. Memorial services will be held June 8 at 1 p.m. at South Sutton Meeting House in South Sutton. The Rev. Richard Dutton will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sutton Historical Society Scholarship Fund, P.O. FRANKLIN - Camilla "Millie" J. Graves, 68, of Kidder Avenue, died Wednesday at Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin. She was born in Franklin, the daughter of William and Marjorie (Jones) Rousseau. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin. She attended St. Mary's School, graduated from Franklin High School in 1952 and attended New Hampshire School of Banking. Graves worked in the mortgage department at Franklin Savings Bank for more than 18 years before retiring and worked as a teachers aide at Winnisquam Regional High School in Tilton for four years. She attended the Congregational Church UCC in Franklin. She served as past president of the BPW in Franklin. She enjoyed crafts and the ocean. Survivors include her mother of Franklin; her husband of 22 years, Harry Graves of Franklin; a son, Kenneth Lorden of Franklin; a stepson, Jason Graves of Franklin; a brother, Philip Rousseau of Columbia, Md.; a sister, Phyllis Thompson of Naples, Fla.; two grandsons; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. The Rev. Larry Turns, pastor of the Congregational Christian Church UCC in Franklin, will officiate. Burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hill. Alta B. Powelson, PENACOOK

PENACOOK - Alta Beryl Powelson, 75, of Borough Road, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital. She was born in Round Bay, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Edna and Cecil Hagar. She emigrated to Branford, Conn., in 1940. She graduated from Branford (Conn.) High School in 1945 and earned a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Connecticut. Powelson worked for the State of Connecticut until her marriage in 1952. She was a founding member of the Shoreline Association of Retarded and Handicapped, where she served a term as president. Survivors include two sons, David Powelson of Loudon and Raymond Powelson of Boscawen; two daughters, Virginia Powelson of Branford, Conn., and Anne Powelson of Bangor, Maine; a brother, Melvin Hagar of Madison, Conn.; and seven grandchildren. Her husband, Richard Powelson, a brother, Burton Hagar, and a sister, Grace Hagar, died previously. Services will be held in Branford, Conn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SARAH Endowment Foundation, 2488 Boston Post Road, Guilford, Conn. 06437.

Doris H. Estabrook, 84, of Concord died yesterday at Pleasant View Center - Genesis Eldercare. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Herman and Katerine (Ward) Hazen. She was raised in Sutton and graduated from Concord Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper at Appletree Book Shop in Concord for many years. Estabrook was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Concord and as church historian wrote the history of the church. She was a member of the Mt. Washington Observatory, the New Hampshire Historical Society, where she also volunteered, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and the Order of Eastern Star. She served as a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed genealogy. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, George Estabrook III of Concord; two sons, Robert Estabrook of Concord and George Estabrook IV of Leavenworth, Kan.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Kenneth Hazen and Myron Hazen, and two sisters, Ruth Clow and Mildred Bryant, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery. FRANKLIN - Shawn Michael Cote, 22, of South Main Street died Wednesday. He was born in Vernon, Conn., the son of Francis and Edith (Carruth) Cote. He attended schools in Vernon and lived there until he moved to Franklin in 1992. Cote was an avid fisherman and was of Roman Catholic faith. Survivors include his parents of Franklin; his fiancé, Morgan Ronan of Franklin; a daughter, Rayna Cote of Franklin; a brother, Jeffrey Cote of Northfield; a sister, Melissa Cote of Franklin; a grandfather, Perley Carruth of Whitingham, Vt.; a grandmother, Agatha Cote of Madawaska, Maine; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. Burial will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. William F. TAUNTON, Mass. - Marguerite C. MacGillivary, 84, formerly of Gilford, died yesterday at Wedgemere Convalescent Home in Taunton, Mass. She was born in Milford, Mass., the daughter of Raymond and Olive (Bishop) Clark. She lived in Mattapan, Mass., for many years before moving to Gilford in 1976 and to Taunton in 1995. She was active in the church and community affairs in Mattapan, Mass. MacGillivary was a member of the Gilford Community Church. She worked at Wilcom Electronics for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Carle of Taunton, Mass.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Freeman and Caryn Carle, both of Taunton, Mass.; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Hollis MacGillivary, died in 1982. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford. The Rev. Michael Graham, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford. Tresa York, RUTLAND, Vt.

RUTLAND, Vt. - Tresa York, 71, died Thursday at home after a short illness. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Meader) Foote. She attended schools in Boscawen and Penacook, where she graduated as salutatorian of her class. She was also a varsity cheerleader and a member of the girls varsity basketball team. York worked as secretary to the chief accountant for the State of New Hampshire and later as a bank teller and as a medical transcriptionist before retiring in 1987. She enjoyed swimming and outdoor activities. Survivors include her husband, Rudolph York of Rutland, Vt.; a son, Edward York of White River Junction, Vt.; a daughter, Jean Watkins of Williston, Vt.; two brothers, Richard Foote of Keene and Warren Foote of Warner; a sister, Betty Gallien of Penacook; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents and two brothers, James Foote and Robert Foote, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. at the York residence, 16 Sand Hill Circle, Rutland, Vt. Marian T. Anderson, 93, formerly of Concord, died Friday at Pleasant View Center - Genesis Eldercare following a period of failing health. She was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Herbert and Daisy (Allen) Townsend Hadgraft. She graduated from Stamford (Conn.) High School in 1927 and attended New York University School of Music and the Julliard School of Music. She was an accomplished organist, pianist, a composer of sacred music and a poet. Several of her compositions and poems have been published. She was a licensed practical nurse and had done private duty nursing at Concord Hospital and had also provided nursing care for the Shaker Sisters in Canterbury. She was a former member of West Congregational Church. She is survived by a cousin, Mrs. Donald (Jacklin) Stopp of Lockport, N.Y. Two husbands died prevously, Robert Kellom in 1975 and George Anderson in 1985. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Concord. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 58 Clinton St., Concord, 03301 or to the charity of one's choice. The Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge of arrangements.
