George S. Currier, SANBORNTON

SANBORNTON - George Smith Currier, 99, of Sanbornton Square died yesterday at the Franklin Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Sanbornton, the son of J. Sherman and Vienna (Smith) Currier. He was a lifelong resident of Sanbornton, where he was the oldest resident. He wintered in Largo, Fla., for 20 years. He attended a local one-room school beginning in 1912 and graduated in 1924 from the Tilton School, where he was active with sports. He was also a member of the debate team and won first place his senior year. Currier was also active in 4-H, where he raised prize-winning field corn and popcorn. He served as a civil defense director during the wars. He worked on a farm during his youth and later for Cadue's Ford Garage in Tilton for many years before owning Harbour-Currier Garage and Feed Store in Tilton. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service beginning in 1944 and worked for the Tilton Post Office for more than 26 years. He owned the Currier School Bus Service from 1937 to 1975. He was a member of the Harmony Grange No. 99 in Sanbornton since 1918, and where he served as master from 1928 to 1929. He served as master of the Belknap and later the Merrimack County Pomona Grange; served as subordinate deputy from 1949 to 1955; served as Pomona deputy from 1956 to 1959; served as general deputy from 1960 to 1964; served as state steward and in the office of state treasurer from 1968 to 1982; and served as treasurer of the Educational Loan Fund for eight years before retiring in 2002. He was presented with a 75-year Grange Certificate and silver pin in 1993. He was active with the state and national granges and served as grange installing officer, in which position he assisted other granges, for 40 years. He served as the first chief of the Sanbornton Fire Department for 28 years and was also a charter member and past president. He was a past president of the New Hampshire Fire Chiefs Association and a member of the State Forest Fire Wardens from 1947 to 1975. He helped created the Lakes Region Mutual Aid System in Laconia and was instrumental in the formation of the Sanbornton landfill. He was a charter member of the Sanbornton Historical Society, for which he was a past president of the Old Home Day. He was as treasurer of the Sanbornton Fair Committee in the 1930s and served as a former charter member of the Sanbornton PTA. A new fire truck was dedicated to him in 2002. He enjoyed gardening, lawn care, church and grange activities. He was presented the Boston Post Cane in 2002. Survivors include a son, Richard Currier of Sanbornton; a daughter, Elizabeth Cotsibas of Sanbornton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife of 60 years, Catharine (Bodwell) Currier, died in 1987; and a sister, Gertrude Currier, died in 1986. Services and burial will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Tower Hill Cemetery in Sanbornton. Memorial services will be held June 7 at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Christian Church UCC in Sanbornton. Interim minister Robert Borden will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Sanbornton Congregational Church, P.O. Box 126, Sanbornton 03269; or to New Hampshire State Grange Educational Loan Fund, c/o Rodney Huntoon, 6 Old Dover Road, Concord 03301. William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton is in charge of the arrangements.

Betsey Lyn Beauchamp, ANTRIM

ANTRIM - Graveside services for Betsey Lyn Beauchamp, 40, who died Dec. 22, will be held June 7 at 2 p.m. at North Branch Cemetery, Route 31, Antrim. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Antrim Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 92, Antrim 03440. Dyer-Lake Funeral Home in North Attleboro, Mass., is in charge of the arrangements.

Norman W. Miner, PITTSFIELD

PITTSFIELD - Norman William Miner, 67, of Catamount Road, died May 14. He was born in Penacook, the son of Ernest and Nora Miner. He worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years, working for the Teamsters before retiring. He later restored pallets at his home. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Claire Miner; four sons, Blakely Miner, Alban Miner, Norman Miner II and Steve Miner; five daughters, Claire Marland, Cindy Houle, Collie Svendberg, Diane Call and Peggy Tibbetts; a sister, Lorraine Coulson; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services and calling hours will not be held. Miner donated his body to Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover for research.

Phyllis Bergstrom, BOSCAWEN

BOSCAWEN - Graveside services for Phyllis Bergstrom, 80, who died Dec. 17, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at McClary Cemetery in Epsom. The Rev. John Johnson of Concord will officiate. Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home in Penacook is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle L. Horn, LOUDON

LOUDON - Myrtle Lee Horn, 68, of Loudon Ridge Road, died Monday at the Hospice House in Concord. She was born in Pittsfield, the daughter of Everett and Dorothy (Jones) Dow. She graduated from Pittsfield High School. She was a longtime resident of Port Charlotte, Fla., before moving to Concord. She owned and operated Horn Realty in Port Charlotte, Fla. She was a member of the Chichester Congregational Church in Chichester. Horn was active in many community musical groups including Liberty Singers, St. Charles Theater Guild in Port Charlotte, Fla., and the Suncook Valley Chorale in Concord. She enjoyed performing and also performed with the Peace River Productions. She was instrumental in the development of the Debbie Lee Children's Services in Charlotte, Fla., where she was the founding member of the organization and served on its board of directors. Survivors include her mother of Loudon; a son, Kenneth Horn Jr. of Las Vegas; a brother, Roger Dow of Loudon; a sister, Lois Hutchinson of East Hampstead; a grandson; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A daughter, Debra Horn, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chichester Congregational Church, 153 Main St., Chichester. Burial will follow at Loudon Ridge Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice House, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797; or Chichester Congregational Church, 153 Main St., Chichester.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph Hoague of Nantucket, Theodore Hoague II of Lanesville, Mass., and Douglas Hoague of Flagstaff, Ariz.; four daughters, Carolyn Hoague of Deerfield, Joann Jones of California, Sarah Cassin of Goffstown and Ann Hoague Kruger of Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph Hoague, died previously. Services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery Chapel, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, Mass. Franklin Morrill Jr., FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN - Franklin G. "Sonny" Morrill Jr., 76, of New Hampton Road, died Wednesday at Franklin Regional Hospital. He was born in Northfield, the son of Franklin Sr. and Mary (Vigneault) Morrill. He was raised in Tilton and lived in the Tucker Mountain area in Sanbornton for many years. Morrill served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a baker for many years, working at a college in Sanford, Maine, the Tilton School and Boston College. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed auto mechanics. Survivors include a sister, Anita Hilliard of Tilton; and nieces and nephews, including Carol Carignan of Tilton, Marie Hilliard, Robin Hilliard and Scott Hilliard, all of Northfield, Colleen Drapeau of Penacook, and James Hilliard of Sanbornton. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, Meredith Center Road, Laconia 03246. Paquette-Neun Funeral Home in Northfield is in charge of the arrangements.
