Mary G. Rollins, TILTON
Tuesday, September 19, 2000
TILTON - Mary G. (Martin) Rollins, 84, of Mill Street, died Sunday at Genesis Elder Care in Laconia.
She was born in Center Sandwich, the daughter of James and Mary "Alice" (Tappan) Martin. She lived in Tilton for more than 57 years.
She was a graduate of Quimby High School in Center Sandwich. She received her nursing degree from the Laconia Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse and worked for many years in hospitals in Laconia and Franklin. She later worked as a private duty nurse.
She was known as the "neighborhood nurse," and for providing medical care for friends and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Rollins, who died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne McNeill of Northfield; a son, Dale Rollins of Northfield; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. The Rev. Ralph Maxwell, pastor of the Lochmere Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Tilton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Visiting Nurse Association, 75 Chestnut St., Franklin 03235.

E. Sheldon Harris, LACONIA

LACONIA - E. Sheldon Harris, 83, of County Drive and formerly of Sanborn Street, died Sunday at the Belknap County Nursing Home.
He was born in Boscawen, the son of Almon and Margaret (Carroll) Harris.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the European, African and Middle Eastern campaign ribbons.
He was an agent for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance of Newark, N.J. for 40 years. He was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters for 30 years and served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president of the New Hampshire Association of Life Underwriters.
He was the executive director of the New Hampshire Association of Life Underwriters from 1982 to 1988. He was the past president of the White Mountain Life Underwriters in Berlin, past president of St. Johnsbury Life Underwriters of Vermont, and past president and secretary of the Lakes Region Association of Life Underwriters.
He was Bulletin editor for the Lakes Region Association for six years. In 1970, he received the National Membership Award.
He was active in community affair and was the past state president of the YMCA and recipient of the Man of the Year Award from the Laconia YMCA in 1968 to 1969.
He held numerous offices with the Littleton Lions Club and was zone chairman and deputy district governor of Lions District No. 44.
He also served three times as president of chapters of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop in America and sang in a quartet for 36 years.
He was director of the Belknap County Sportsmen's Club and was instrumental in starting the "Take A Kid Fishing" program.
He was past moderator, deacon, honorary deacon and worship chairman of the Congregational Church of Laconia and received its Churchmanship award in 1984.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy (Whitford) Harris, who died in 1994; and a daughter, Katherine Daigneault, who died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Richard Harris of Whitefield; a daughter, Janet Daigneault of Laconia; six grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Harris of Barton, Vt., and Robert Harris of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; two sisters, Carol Foster of Meredith and Janet Bird of Dedham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Laconia, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia. The Rev. E. Barent Grevatt, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Penacook.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorcas Fund, Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia 03246.

Leon Michaud
Susan Michaud
Wednesday, September 20, 2000
A memorial service for Leon Michaud and Susan Michaud, both formerly of Concord, will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Landmark Baptist Church, Route 106. The Rev. Angel Rodriguez will officiate.
Burial will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Michaud, 74, died in April 1995. Mrs. Michaud, 88, died in July.

Beatrice T. Carr, FRANKLIN
Tuesday, September 19, 2000
FRANKLIN - Beatrice (Twombly) Carr, 93, formerly of Bristol, died Sunday at the Peabody Home in Franklin.
She was born in Penacook and grew up in Laconia and Franklin. She graduated from Franklin High School and Plymouth Normal School.
She lived most of her life in Bristol before moving to the Peabody Home in July 1999.
She attended the Bristol Federated Church and the Bristol Baptist Church.
She was a long-time member of the Bristol Woman's Club and the Rebekah Lodge of Bristol. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sawhegenit Chapter No. 52 in Bristol for more than 70 years, and held various offices with the organization.
Music and flowers were an important part of her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Carr, who died in 1944.
She is survived by two sons, David Carr of Bristol and George Carr of Bridgewater; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a niece.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Hill Center Church, Murray Hill Road, Hill. The Rev. Richard Matthews, pastor of the Bristol Federated Church, and the Rev. John Taylor, interim minister of the Bristol Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Homeland Cemetery in Bristol.
Memorial contributions may be made to NANA, 214 Lake St., Bristol 03222.
H.L. Young & Co. Memorial Home in Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence S. Scovill, GILMANTON IRON WORKS

GILMANTON IRON WORKS - A memorial service for Lawrence S. Scovill, 85, of Mountain Road, who died Aug. 2 at the St. Francis Home in Laconia, will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Winnipisaukee Lodge No. 75 on Route 28 in Alton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Francis Home, 406 Court St., Laconia 03246.

Erich Hoffman, HIGHLAND BEACH, Fla.

HIGHLAND BEACH, Fla. - Erich Hoffman, 78, of Highland Beach, Fla., father of an area resident, died Monday at Hospice House of Cape Cod in Hyannis, Mass.
He was born in Vienna, Austria. He lived in West Roxbury, Mass., before dividing his time between Hyannis, Mass., and Florida for 38 years.
He was the owner and operator of the former Columbia Industries in Boston, a supplier of leather goods and trim for the ladies apparel industry. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Brotherhood Lodge of Masons in Boston and the Horace Chase Masonic Lodge in Penacook. He held the rank of 32nd degree Mason.
He was a member of the Immigrants Mutual Aid Society of Boston.
He was predeceased by a sister, Eva Goitein.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice (Swartz) Hoffman; two sons, Alan Hoffman of Marblehead, Mass., and Dave Hoffman of Concord; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held today at noon at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon St., Brookline, Mass.
Burial will be in the Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, Mass.
Memorial observances will be held through sundown Friday at Alan Hoffman home in Marblehead, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, 1399 S. Roxbury, Los Angeles, Calif. 90035 or to the Hospice House of Cape Cod, 88 Railroad Ave., Hyannis, Mass. 02601.

Janice E. Griswold, WEARE

WEARE - Janice E. (Moody) Griswold, 68, of Dunbar Road, died Sunday at home.
She was born in Goffstown, the daughter of Haven Everett and Dorothy (Felch) Moody.
She attended schools in Weare and graduated in 1950. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Weare for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in North Weare.
She was a member of the Portia-Henocon-Asteria, Order of the Eastern Star No. 14 in Hillsboro and the American Legion Auxiliary in Weare.
She was predeceased by a brother, Murray Moody, who died in 1962.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Griswold of Weare; four daughters, Janice Meyer of Alton, Lisa Hadley of Henniker, LouAnne Lantz of Sunapee and Martha Knox of Newbury, Vt.; two sons, Roger Griswold of Gardner, Maine, and Fred Griswold of Bedford; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Moody of Stuart, Fla., and David Moody of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in North Weare.
Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Weare.
Memorial donations may be made to the Congregational Church, North Weare 03281.

Dr. Robert L. Whitney

Dr. Robert L. Whitney, 84, of Amoskeag Road, died Sept. 14 at Pleasant View Center Genesis Eldercare.
He was born in Essex Junction, Vt., and attended high school in Essex Junction and Burlington, Vt.
He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He graduated from the College of Medicine at the University of Vermont in 1943. His internships were in Philadelphia and Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
He was a general practitioner in Bennington, Vt.
From 1951 to 1954, he worked as a resident in radiology at the University of Syracuse.
He was on the staff of the Hartford (Conn.) Hospital for one year before joining the X-Ray Professional Association in Concord in 1955. He was on staff at Concord Hospital, Franklin Hospital and the New Hampshire State Hospital.
His memberships included St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he had been a vestryman; the American College of Radiology; the New England Roentgen Ray Society of New Hampshire; the Radiological Society of North America; and the New Hampshire Medical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (Jackson) Whitney of Concord; his children, Barbara Whitney Lambert of Plymouth; Gretchen Whitney of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Michael Whitney of Manchester, Martha Whitney of Burlington, Vt., Lois Jackson Mulligan of Newark, Del., and William Jackson of Stephentown, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will be held in the Blossom Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 21 Centre St., Concord 03301.

Jean Gasper, NORTHWOOD
Tuesday, September 19, 2000
NORTHWOOD - Gertrude Jean Gasper, 64, of Route 4, died Sunday at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover after a long illness.
She was born in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Beitterick) Weinmann. She had lived in Northwood for the past 27 years.
She ran Jay's Pizza with her husband, James Gasper, for 13 years. She also worked as a floral designer for many years in the Seacoast area. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Northwood and the St. Joseph's Women's Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1987.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Gasper of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., John Gasper of Hallendale, Fla., Kevin Gasper of Hampton, and James Gasper of Northwood; a daughter, Nancy Brown of Deerfield; three grandchildren; a brother, Fred Weinmann of Dorsett, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home, 60 Main St., Pittsfield.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph's Church on Route 4 in Northwood. The Rev. Delaire will officiate.
Burial will be held in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield.
The Perkins Funeral Home in Pittsfield is in charge of the arrangements.
