Robert M. Alley, GILMANTON
Friday, March 30, 2001
GILMANTON - Robert M. Alley, 83, died Tuesday at the Lakes Region General Hospital. He was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Charles and Harriet Alley. He served in the US Army during World War II. He worked with the US Corps of Engineers in 1938 on the construction of the Franklin Flood Control Dam. He also taught Boston University, being elected to the Phi Beta Kappa society; and taught English and Humanities at Laconia High School for 30 years. He was revered by students and colleagues alike as a gifted teacher. He and a colleague developed a nationally acclaimed Humanities program involving students in a project whose goal was to design a Utopian society. Survivors include his wife, Judith Alley of Gilmanton; a step daughter, Gretchen Seifert of Stamford, Conn.; and a nephew. Memorial services will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, 14 Country Club Road, Gilford 03249. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne King, BARNSTEAD

BARNSTEAD - Wayne King, 53, of Hemlock Road, died Friday at his home. He was born in San Jose, Calif., the son of Wayne and Luana King. He was raised in Arizona and lived in the Barnstead area for more than 30 years. He retired as the supervisor of receiving at K-Mart after 30 years and until his death had been working for Warren Watts Construction in Concord. He was an artist and enjoyed gardening, yard sale shopping and antique automobiles. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Mickey King of Barnstead; four sons, David King of Pittsfield, Charlie King of Florida, James King of Arizona and David Densmore of Pittsfield; one daughter, Diane (Densmore) Dishon of Corinth, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Briana King of Pittsfield; and one sister, Vicki Kennedy of Arizona. Visiting hours will be held today in the Perkins Funeral Home Inc., 60 Main St. Pittsfield, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m., also in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Paige-Morgan, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield, will officiate. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association New Hampshire Affiliate, 20 Merrimack St. Suite 1, Manchester 03101-2244; or the Concord SPCA, 130 Washington St., Penacook 03303. Norma Champagne, LOUDON

LOUDON - Norma M. (Leonard) Champagne, 62, of Chichester Road, died suddenly on Friday. She was born in Boston, the daughter of Normal Bradford and Eleanor Marie (Carlson) Leonard. She was a 1956 graduate of Brattleboro High School in Vermont. She attended the nursing program at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, Mass. She earned a bachelor's of science degree in accounting and computer science and an associate's degree in business management from Franklin Pierce College in Concord. She was attending the College of Life Long Learning, where was completing her teaching degree. She worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire for 17 years. She began teaching at Pembroke Academy in 1993 as a special education and behavior modification teacher, working with students with EH disabilities. Last fall, she was transferred to Hillsborough-Deering Middle School, where she continued her career in special education. A world traveler, she and her husband, Reggie, have vacationed all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Italy, France, Hawaii and throughout the United States. She was a charter member, trustee and auditor of the Eagles No. 613 Auxiliary. She was a member of the New Hampshire Writers and Publishers Project. She was also a senior friend of the Friends Program for almost 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Reggie Champagne of Loudon; one son, Michael Bezanson of Canterbury; three daughters, Elle Bezanson and Barbie Tilton, both of Canterbury, and Cheryl Perkins of Northfield; two sisters, Carol George of Exeter and Joyce Al-darraji of Somersworth; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 274 Pleasant St., Concord. Immediately following the service, the family will be receiving friends in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends Program, 249 Pleasant St., Concord 03301. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie Erwin, EPSOM
Sunday, April 1, 2001
EPSOM - Jessie (Adams) Erwin, 94, died Friday at the Epsom Manor Nursing Home. Born and raised in Oklahoma, she moved to Milford about five years ago to be closer to her son, Jim. She lived at the Briston Manor Retirement Community in Bedford before moving to Epsom Manor. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but she worked for a couple of years as a bookkeeper for Royce Motor Company in Wilburton, Okla. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. She was an active volunteer with various church-sponsored community groups for the Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for more than 40 years. She was also a past member of the PTA. She enjoyed the bridge club, hunting and fishing. Survivors include one son, James Erwin of Fitchburg, Mass.; two grandchildren; and two nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Romlous Erwin. There are no calling hours or services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, New Hampshire Division, 360 Route 101, Bedford 03110.

Pauline Ferland

Pauline Ferland of Concord died yesterday at Hospice House in Concord. She was born in White River Junction, Vt., the daughter of C.L. and Lucy Parker. During her childhood, her parents owned a house on Lake Morey, and she had a lifelong love of Vermont. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Ferland. Survivors include four sons, Larry Ferland and Roger Ferland, both of Concord, Ronald Ferland of Gilmanton and Richard Ferland of North Carolina; a daughter, Paulette Ferland of Concord; seven grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Nelso of Florida; and several nephews and nieces. Burial will take place in Blossom Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Taylor, EPSOM

EPSOM - Walter L. Taylor Sr., 91, of 16 Knight Lane, died Wednesday at Epsom Manor. He attended school in Ashland, Mass. He was employed by Boston Edison, first as a pig whistle, then a line man and advancing to supervisor from 1929 to 1974, when he retired. He served in the Marine Corp., 4th Marine Division, during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He and his wife moved to Epsom in 1976 and lived there for 25 years. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. From 1968 to 1969, he was commander of the VFW Memorial Post No. 2331 in Ashland, Mass. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 0077, Ashland, Mass. He was predeceased by his wife Ruby (Morey) Taylor and a son, Richard Taylor. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Grace (Lee) Taylor of Epsom; a son, Walter Taylor Jr. of Sunset Beach, N.C.; Two daughters, Janet Clark of Blackstone, Mass., and Maryann Taylor of Ashland, Mass.; two step-daughters, Donna Roberson of Seguin, Texas, and Betty Simoneau of Manchester; a step-son Kevin Halvorsen of Concord; and nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epsom Manor Resident Recreation Fund, 901 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom 03234.

William P. McTague

William P. McTague, 54, of Deering, died Friday at Concord Hospital. Born in Brockton, Mass., he was the son of the late Philip and Audrey (Cornell) McTague. He lived in Weymouth, Mass., for 15 years before moving to Deering seven years ago. He was a dispatcher and driver for the First Student Transportation Bus Company in Deering. Survivors include his wife of seven years, Susan Ann (Kniskern) McTague of Deering; two daughters, Heather Ann Hudgens of Atlanta, Ga., and Stacey McTague of Holiday, Fla.; two step-daughters, Shannon and Heather Casey of Deering; two sisters, Audrey Locke of Brockton, Mass., and Karin Pedro of Bridgewater, Mass.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Funeral Services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The Rev. Christopher Stage, pastor of United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury, Mass. Marilyn S. Bouley, DANBURY

DANBURY - A graveside service for Marilyn S. (Hiner) Bouley, 75, who died Dec. 20, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Riverdale Cemetery in Danbury. Laurence Dugan, PENACOOK

PENACOOK - Laurence Dugan, 77, of Penacook, died March 28 at home. He was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Laurence and Katherine (McGowan) Dugan. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He lived in the Concord area more than 30 years, moving here from Connecticut. He worked at New Hampshire Hospital for more than 30 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord. Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Casey) Dugan of Penacook; a son, Sean Dugan of Hastings, N.Y.; two brothers, Edward Dugan of Springfield, Mass., and Richard Dugan of Phoenix, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. CONTOOCOOK - May A. Hedderig, 85, of Meadow Park, died Monday at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born in Dedham, Mass., the daughter of Angus and Maude (MacDougall) MacLean. She graduated in 1935 from Dedham High School in Dedham, Mass. She worked for Rust Craft Cards in Dedham, Mass., for nine years; Eastern Drug Co. in Dedham, Mass., for five years; the Dedham Transcript Press in Dedham, Mass., for eight years; NEC Electronics in Concord for nine years; and Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, retiring after 14 years. She also worked part time for the Tween School in home child care for 14 years and for the Harold M. Martin Elementary School in Hopkinton. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Matron for Roslindale No. 104 in Massachusetts and at Epiphany No. 50 in Concord. She was predeceased by her husband, John Hedderig, who died in 1995. Survivors include two sons; Gordon Hedderig of Contoocook and Donald Hedderig of Butler, Ind.; a sister, Sadie Andrews of Westwood, Mass.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, Mass. The Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of the arrangements.

Wallace T. Sanphy, NORTH CONWAY

NORTH CONWAY - Wallace T. Sanphy, 89, died Sunday at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway after a short illness. He was born in Boston, the son of John and Blanche (Towle) Sanphy. He was a life-long resident of North Conway. He graduated from Kennett High School in 1930. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission in Conway for 39 years, retiring as a manager in 1974. He later worked at Shaw's Supermarket in North Conway for 15 years. He was a charter member and commander in 1950 of North Conway American Legion Post No. 95. He was also a member of the former North Conway Outing Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline Sanphy, who died in 1973; his second wife, Eleanor Sanphy, who died in 1999; and a grandson, Robert Bennett, who died in 2001. Survivors include two sons, Donald Sanphy of Conway and David Sanphy of Concord; two daughters, Loretta Bennett of Somersworth and Arlene Fleming of Fryeburg, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Graveside services will be held later in the spring in the Conway Village Cemetery. Gerald G. Gaucher, MANCHESTER

MANCHESTER - Gerald G. Gaucher, 67, died Monday at his home after a cardiac arrest. He was born in Nashua, the son of Gaston and Evelyn (Maynard) Gaucher. He grew up in Nashua and lived in Manchester for more than 30 years. He received his bachelor's degree from Saint Anselm College in 1965 and his master's degree in economics from Boston College in 1968. He also was a doctoral candidate in economics at Boston College. He worked as a national bank examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department and as an executive vice president of the New Hampshire Bankers Association. Later, he was a chief financial officer at the bank and then joined St. Mary's Bank Credit Union and served in various capacities, including executive vice president of administration, chief financial officer and investment officer. He taught at various schools and programs throughout his career He enjoyed sharing his financial knowledge and teaching economics at Saint Anselm College. He served as treasurer of the SMB Charitable Foundation; chairman of the Eastern States Bankers Association; permanent trustee of the New England School of Banking at Williams College; trustee for the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation; and registrar for the Northern New England School of Banking. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Gaucher of Burbank, Calif., and David Gaucher of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Anne Gaucher of Weare; three brothers, Dennis Gaucher of Winthrop, Mass., Marc Gaucher of Westboro, Mass., and Paul Gaucher of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Diane Shea of Manchester; and a niece and two nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lambert Funeral Home, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, Pine and Lowell streets, Manchester. Burial will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
