LACONIA - Edith V. Flanders, 85, formerly of Church Street, died yesterday at Belknap County Nursing Home. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Fecteau) Guyer. She was a lifelong resident of Laconia. She worked at Cormier Hosiery for 25 years, retiring in 1975. Flanders was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart and the Catholic Daughters. She was a member of the Laconia Senior Center. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Kupetz of Gilford; a brother, Harold Guyer of Suncook; three sisters, Rachel Martel of Laconia, and Antia Styring and Theresa Emery, both of Florida; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Clarence Flanders, died in 1985. Calling hours will not be held. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Laconia. The Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home, Sit-Stand Lift Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia 03246. Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia is in charge of the arrangements.

Kevin David Therrien, DOVER

DOVER - Kevin David Therrien, 28, died Sept. 7 in Pittsfield. He was born in Portsmouth, the son of Richard and Betty (Slate) Therrien. He attended St. Mary's Academy, Woodman Park and Dover High School. He was formerly of Lucust Street in Dover. Therrien worked for ASA Auto Parts in Concord. He loved music and working on cars. Survivors include his father of Dover; three brothers, Richard Therrien of Barnstead, David Therrien of Loudon and Christopher Therrien of Dover; three sisters, Pam Frizzell of Pittsfield, Tracy DiCicco of Dover and Cindy McGuire of Bedford; aunts and uncles; six nephews and five nieces; and many cousins. Calling hours will be held today from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Ruzzo, associate pastor of St. Joseph's Church of Dover, will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to Southeastern New Hampshire Services, 272 County Farm Road, Dover 03820. Betty L. Abbott, VERO BEACH, Fla.

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Betty L. Abbott, 78, died Aug. 23 at Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, Fla., after a short illness. She was born in Indiana and lived in Concord before moving to Vero Beach, Fla., in 1978. Abbott worked as supervisor for the Recreation and Parks Department in Concord before retiring. She wrote a golf column for the Press Journal in Florida. She performed, sang and directed at Vero Beach, Fla., Theatre Guild since 1978; received the 2002 Philanthropy Award from the Cultural Council in Indian River County; and was a member of the Vero Beach, Fla., Theatre Guild and the Vero Beach, Fla., Art Club. Survivors include three nephews, David Marcum of Indiana, Daniel Marcum of Tennessee and Ronald Marcum of Homestead, Fla. Memorial services will be held tomorrow at Vero Beach Theatre Guild auditorium. Memorial donations may be made to the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, 2020 San Juan Ave., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960; the Humane Society of Vero Beach, 4701 41st St., Vero Beach, Fla., 32960; or the VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960. Evelyn C. Nielsen, EPSOM

EPSOM - Evelyn Catherine Nielsen, 87, died yesterday at Concord Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Concord, the daughter of John and Georgiana (Rivers) Supry. She lived in the Penacook-Boscawen area most of her life. She graduated from Penacook High School in 1934. Nielsen worked at Beede Electric Co. and New Hampshire State Forestry for many years. She was a life member of the Webster Ezekiel Grange. She enjoyed the outdoors and her camp in Grafton. Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Preve of Epsom, whom she lived with for the past three years, and Sandra Greene of Alstead; a brother, John Supry of Boscawen; six grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Her husband, George Nielsen, died in 1970. Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797. Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, Penacook, is in charge of the arrangements.

Josephine "Jo" G. Blanchette, 83, of Alice Drive, Concord, died yesterday at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born in Bow, the daughter of Leroy and Mable (York) Craft. She was a lifelong resident of Concord. Blanchette worked for Page Belting Company in Concord for more than 10 years. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Edward Blanchette of Concord; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours and services will not be held. Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

Chris Mekkelsen, FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN - Chris Mekkelsen, 74, of Duffy Street died Monday at home after a period of failing health. He was born in Barre Town, Barre, Vt., the son of Christian and Regina (Rugo) Mekkelsen. He lived in Laconia for many years before moving to Franklin, where he lived for 40 years. He served in the Army. Mekkelsen worked for Weeks Dairy in Laconia and Brezner Tannery in Penacook for 30 years before retiring. He later worked in the housekeeping department at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen for 14 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 49 in Northfield. Survivors include three sons, Keven Mekkelsen of Franklin, David Mekkelsen of Belmont and Frank Mekkelsen of Maine; a daughter, Shirrelee Mekkelsen of Franklin; four sisters, Althea McLeod and Mildred Ladd, both of Barre Town, Barre, Vt., Mary Langevin of Barre City, Vt., and Frances Lane of Orange, Vt.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. His wife, Mary (Theranos) Mekkelsen, died in 1987; a daughter, Karen Mekkelsen, and two sisters, May Cenci and Agnes Walker, also died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from noon to 2 p.m. at William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the memorial home. Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Bedford 03110.

Warren S. Hallamore

Warren Sawyer Hallamore, 92, died Sept. 9 in Concord. He was born in Brockton, Mass., the son of S.W. Hallamore. He graduated from Brockton (Mass.) High School in 1928 and Dartmouth College in 1932, and he completed a year of graduate study at Harvard. Hallamore moved to Henniker in 1952, to Bermuda in 1965 and then to Concord, where he lived with his sister, Alma. He served in the Navy Reserve (aviation) after Pearl Harbor. He served as a non-flying officer with a Scouting Squadron in Bermuda for two years and was transferred to a Patrol Bombing Squadron in the Pacific Theater for the duration of the war. He entered Japan just prior to its surrender in August 1945. He was a lieutenant commander U.S.N.R. at the time of his discharge. He worked for Little, Brown and Co., publishers in Boston before joining the Navy Reserves and later as assistant director of admissions at Northeastern University in Boston. He worked as the public information officer for the State Public Works and Highways Department while living in Henniker; and as director of H.A. & E. Smith Ltd. and Horizons Ltd. while living in Bermuda. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Adrianna Goodfellow and Shirley Mulder, both of Bermuda; four grandchildren; a niece, nephews and a cousin. Two sisters, Alma Hallamore and Olive Hallamore, and a brother, Eldon Hallamore, died previously. Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of the arrangements.

Rose Ann Shippee, 91, of Spillway Lane died Sunday at home after a long illness. She was born in Rosetta, Pa., the daughter of Frank and Mary (Altari) Martocci. She was raised in the Brattleboro, Vt., area and lived Shelburne Falls, Mass., before moving to Concord, where she lived with her daughter since 1992. Shippee graduated from Brattleboro (Vt.) High School in 1929 and earned a degree in business from Northampton (Mass.) Commercial Business College. She worked at the Holstein-Friesian Association in Brattleboro, Vt., as a substitute teacher in Vermont and for the Buckland-Shelburne (Mass.) Regional School Department. She was of the Catholic faith and was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord. She was a former parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelburne Falls, Mass. She was a member of Shelburne Falls Women's Club and was active with the St. Joseph's Solidarity. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, golf and playing bridge. Survivors include three daughters, Monica Unger of Concord, Joan Reece of Sturbridge, Mass., and Patricia Valiton of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her husband of 55 years, Wayne Shippee, died in 1989; two brothers, Nicholas Martocci and Rosario Amato, and five sisters, Ann Amato, Angelina Hiner, Jenny Marrion, Mary Amato and Josephine Hart, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace St., Brattleboro, Vt. Services will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Brattleboro, Vt. Burial will follow in the family lot at St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro, Vt., is in charge of the arrangements.

Sandra L. McAdam, LACONIA

LACONIA - Sandra L. McAdam, 59, of Academy Street, died Monday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Springvale, Maine, the daughter of Raymond and Marion (King) Lessard. She was raised in Springvale, Maine, before moving to Dover. She lived in Sunapee and Biddeford, Maine, for many years and in Laconia for the past 36 years. She graduated from Dover High School in 1960. McAdam worked for Whittemore's Flower Shop for more than six years, where she nurtured flowers and transplanted oak trees. Survivors include her parents of Shapleigh, Maine; her husband of 41 years, Paul McAdam of Laconia; three sons, Kyle McAdam of Center Harbor, Paul McAdam Jr. of London, England, and Todd McAdam of Cortlandville, N.Y.; two sisters, Karen Towel of Madbury and Brenda Armstrong of Tenants Harbor, Maine; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Two infant children died previously, Brett McAdam in 1963 and Erin McAdams in 1968. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., Laconia. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor, will officiate. Urn burial will be held privately at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Chapter Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 3194, Nashua 03061. Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home in Laconia is assisting with arrangements.
