Alfred H. Kastberg, STAFFORD, Va.

STAFFORD, Va. - Alfred Henry Kastberg, 87, formerly of Hopkinton, died Nov. 17 in Stafford, Va. He was born in Whitinsville, Mass., the son of Mads and Jensine Kastberg. He graduated from North High School in 1933 and the School of Industrial Management in 1961. He was formerly of Hopkinton and retired to Deland, Fla. in 1987. He served as Second Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Force before being discharged in 1946 and served with the reserves until 1955. Kastberg worked as executive vice president of the Henry L. Hanson Co. before retiring in 1977. He was active with the Lutheran Church in Concord for many years and the Faith Lutheran Church, where he was also a member of their choir. Hs served as chair of the committee on Business Information and the Aviation Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; was a member of the Rotary Club in Worcester, Mass., the Society for the Advancement of Management, the President's Club of Worcester, Mass., and the Housing Studay Committee of West Boylston, Mass.; was a founding member of the Christ Lutheran Church in West Boylston, Mass.; served as treasurer of the Mid-State Flying Club; and served on the Massachusetts Safety Council and the board of Fairlawn Hospital. He enjoyed traveling, photography, computers and the publication of the family newsletter, "Kastberg Kronicles." Survivors include a son, David Kastberg of Phillipston, Mass.; two daughters, Martha MacDonald of Lambertville, N.J., and Beverly Gray of Glasgow, Scotland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His wife, Lilly, died in 1996. Burial will be held Saturday at Home Cemetery, Va. Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, West Boylston, Va. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.

Walter P. J. Brennan, WEARE

WEARE - Walter Patrick Joseph "Joe" Brennan, 89, died Thursday at Presidential Oaks in Concord after a short illness. He was born in Cherry Valley, N.Y. He served as a horse cavalryman with the Wyoming National Guard in the U.S Army during World War II. He later served as tank commander in the Pacific. He moved to Weare in 1938 and later lived on Quaker Street. Brennan worked on farms in the Mohawk Valley as a child and was a prizefighter during the Depression. He later worked in logging as a teamster. He owned Brennan Tree Service and worked as a tree cutter and stone mason and built houses for his family. He served as selectman and school board member for the town of Weare for many years. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Dow) Brennan of Weare; a son, Art Brennan of Weare; three daughters, Jean Stafford of Weare, Joan Boyle of Littleton and Jane Brennan of Weare; and nine grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Weare Legion Post No. 65. Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery in Weare. Memorial donations may be made to the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, 1 Verney Dr., Greenfield 03047. Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Henniker, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby G. Griffith, BOSCAWEN

BOSCAWEN - Ruby Grace Griffith, 69, died Wednesday at Merrimack County Nursing Home. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Andrew and Grace (Abbott) Miller. She lived in the Penacook-Boscawen area all her life. She worked as a caregiver for the local elderly in their homes. Survivors include three sons, William Smith and Perley Smith, both of Penacook, and Larry Smith of California; three daughters, Mary Smith of Concord, Ellie Boileau of Allenstown and Bonnie Smith of California; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her first and second husbands, William Smith and Raymond Griffith, and two children, David Smith and Sheila Mae Smith, and many siblings died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Maple Grave Cemetery in West Concord. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate. Harold E. Lovering, SANDOWN

SANDOWN - Harold E. Lovering, 94, formerly of Sargent Road, died Thursday at the Integrated Health Services in Derry. He was born in West Lebanon. He moved to his grandparents home on Sargent Road in Sandown in 1909, later moving to another address on Sargent Road, where he lived for 60 years. He attended schools in Sandown. Lovering worked as a carpenter for many years and sharpened saws in his own shop. He enjoyed bird watching, storytelling, gardening, carpentry, reading and old westerns. He was fond of the Sandown and Chester Fire Departments. Survivors include two brothers, Ernest True of Raymond and Raleigh True of Albany, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews of Concord. His wife, Nellie (Luce) Lovering, died in1995. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Sandown. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Peter P. Giera, BOW

BOW - Peter Paul Giera, 47, died Thursday at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Beverly, Mass., the son of Stephen and Joan Giera. He graduated from Coe-Brown High School in 1974, where he played on the high school basketball team and was a member of the 1974 state champion team. He owned and operated Broad Cove Builders, based in Hopkinton, and later as a master carpenter for a local union in Portsmouth. Giera enjoyed ice hockey. Survivors include his mother, Joan (McGeoghan) Emerson of Hernando, Fla.; his wife of 11 years, Julie Giera of Bow; two sons, Ryan Giera and Kevin Giera, both of Bow; a daughter, Megan Giera of Bow; a brother, Theodore Giera of Hernando, Fla.; two sisters, Pamela Hall of Sandown and Patricia Giera of Hernando, Fla.; and five nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Epping.

PEMBROKE - Kevin S. "Magoo" Cloutier, 34, of Broadway, died Thursday at his home. He was born in Manchester, the son of Leo and Susan (Sarette) Cloutier. He graduated from Goffstown High School in 1987, where he was active in the Job Corps Culinary Arts Program. Cloutier worked as assistant manager for Amerada Hess Corp. in Goffstown. He enjoyed music and wrestling. Survivors include his father of Venice, Fla.; his mother of Manchester; grandparents, Rudolph and Beatrice Sarette of Concord; two brothers, Keith Cloutier of Contoocook and Michael Cloutier of Manchester; three sisters, Karen Cloutier of Henniker, Lisa Winslow of Goffstown and Allison Cloutier of Pinardville; two stepbrothers, Russell Berry of Candia and Gordon Berry of Lee; two stepsisters, Sandra Berry of Strafford and Cheryl Berry of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke. Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. during calling hours in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 121 Cedar St., Manchester 03101.

NORT PORT, Fla. - John S. "Jack" Dow, 90, died Saturday. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., and lived in Concord. He worked as a teacher in public schools. Survivors include a son, Bruce Dow of Concord; three daughters, Pamela Dow of North Port, Fla., Jacquie Ryan of Waynesboro, Va., and Judy Kennedy of Tumwater, Wash.; a brother, Bruce Dow of Concord; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. His wife died previously. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.

Eleanor D. Philbrick, CHELSEA, Vt.

CHELSEA, Vt. - Eleanor D. Philbrick, 87, died Saturday at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vt. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Claflin) Densmore. She graduated from Concord High School. She moved to Chelsea, Vt., in 1946. Philbrick worked as a homemaker and operated a summer camp for many years. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, cooking and caring for sick animals. Survivors include three sons, Timothy Philbrick of Orford, Jonathan "Cy" Philbrick of Tomahawk, Wis., and Robert Philbrick of South Royalton, Vt.; a daughter, Sara Gordon of Chelsea, Vt.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, John Philbrick, died in 1998; and a sister, Martha Chase, died in 1984. Services will be held privately at a later date. Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt., is in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah "Sally" Louise (Bridge) Weeks, 87, died yesterday. She was born in St. Louis, where she was also raised. She lived in Brookline, Mass., for many years before moving to Bow and Peterborough. She lived in Heritage Heights and Havenwood Community for the past few years and summered in Walpole. She traveled to Italy and Germany to study art. She was an active member of nature organizations, including the Audubon Society, Concord Garden Club and the Sharon Art Museum. Survivors include four sons, Peter Weeks of Dunbarton, Robert Weeks of Charlotte, N.C., Stephen Weeks of Minneapolis and Richard Weeks of Lafayette, Colo.; two brothers, Leighton Bridge of Walpole and Gardner Bridge of Orleans, Mass.; two sisters, Helen Boynton and Susan Blair, both of Brunswick, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Robert Weeks Jr., died previously. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Dunbarton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bridge School, 6717 South Boulder Road, Boulder, Colo., 80303; Bridge Memorial Library, Walpole 03608; or St. John's Episcopal Church, Walpole 03608. Burial will be held Friday in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Brookline, Mass. Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul H. Saltmarsh, BOSCAWEN

BOSCAWEN - Paul Henry Saltmarsh, 69, died Sunday at Concord Hospital. He was born in Concord, the son of Robert and Gertrude (Knight) Saltmarsh. He was raised in Concord and lived in Nashua most of his life. He worked as a self-employed photographer and owned Saltmarsh Photography Studio in Nashua. Saltmarsh enjoyed photography, running, the arts, camping and hiking. Survivors include a son, Kurt Saltmarsh of Shapleigh, Maine; two daughters, Paula Saltmarsh of Pembroke and Sarah Lowery of Missouri; two brothers, Steve Saltmarsh of Sanford, Maine, and Richard Saltmarsh of Venice, Fla.; a sister, Joanne Treadwell of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Edward Saltmarsh and Robert Saltmarsh, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. A gathering will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the home of Paula Saltmarsh in Pembroke. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Hampshire Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord 03301; or Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice Program, P.O.
