HILLSBORO - Carolyn M. "Carrie" Virgin, 76, of Hillsboro died Saturday at Concord Hospital. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Charles and Malan (Swaidmark) Morin. She graduated from Concord High School in 1945. She spent 22 years traveling as a military wife. She enjoyed doing crafts and crosswords and going on outings with friends and family. Survivors include three sons, Dale Virgin of Somersworth, Darryl Virgin of Plant City, Fla., and Douglas Virgin Jr. of Dover; four daughters, Deborah Coobs of Concord, Donna Powell of Littleton, Colo., Diane Knight of Gibsonton, Fla., and Darlene Virgin of Valatie, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A son, Dana Virgin, and three brothers, Richard Morin, Robert Morin and Donald Morin, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Bennet Funeral Home Chapel, 3 Church St., Concord. The Rev. Walter Holder will officiate. Burial will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 1270, Charlotte, N.C. 28201-1270; or to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688.

Basil P. Babcock Jr. , TILTON

TILTON - Basil P. "Pete" Babcock Jr., 83, formerly of Newmarket, Exeter and Durham, died Wednesday at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. He was born in Chicago, the son of Basil and Katherine (Ranger) Babcock. He was raised in Chicago before moving to Boston. He was a graduate of Auburndale High School, and he earned a business degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. While in high school and college, Babcock was a member of the track team. He excelled in the 2-mile run, holding the New England record for several years. During World War II, he served with the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade. He saw action in the Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima and served on the USS Muliphen AKS-61. He was a sales representative for Armour Co. and was later a food broker in Boston for a year and a half. He then worked as a representative for National Cash Register in the Boston area. He worked as a New England salesman for Eagle Pitcher Co., based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He lastly worked in construction as part of the Laborers and Hodcarriers Union and worked many years in the construction of the Seabrook nuclear power plant prior to retiring. He was a member of the VFW in Franklin and Exeter and was a member of the Newmarket American Legion Post #32. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Babcock of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four children, Peter Babcock of Santa Rosa, Calif., Christine Culver of Larkspur, Calif., Jeffrey Babcock of Westport, Conn., and Deedy Babcock of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Dolliver of Olympia, Wash., and Katherine Hansen of Philadelphia, Pa.; eight grandchildren; two great grandsons; nieces and nephews; and a best friend, George Smith Jr. of York, Maine. A daughter, Leah Kennedy of New York City, died in March 2003. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. a the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Chapel on Route 3 in Boscawen. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, P.O. Box 229, Tilton 03276. Paquette-Neun Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joan B. Martin

Joan B. Martin, 102, of Concord, died yesterday at Havenwood Nursing Home in Concord. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Thomas and Isabel (Smith) Martin. She worked for Tileston and Hollingsworth in Hyde Park, Mass., before retiring. Martin was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Concord. She had formerly been a member for more than 50 years of the Park Street (Mass.) Church in Boston, where she served as a member of the Women's Benevolent Society. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Two brothers and four sisters died previously. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Havenwood Nursing Home, 33 Christian Ave., Concord. Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, 80 Clinton St., Concord 03301; or to the charity of one's choice.

Elizabeth Lowry

Elizabeth Lowry, 94, of Concord died Sept. 6. She lived in Winchester, Mass., and Newton, Mass., before moving to Concord. Survivors include her children, R. Reed Lowry of Sudbury, Mass., and Richard Lowry of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Sauer of Florida; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Robert Lowry, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. A memorial service will be held at Havenwood Heritage Heights Nursing Center, 33 Christian Ave., Concord, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorials donations may be made to the Havenwood Heritage Heights Nursing Center, 33 Christian Ave., Concord 03301. Lane Funeral Home in Winchester, Mass., is in charge of the arrangements.

Donna R. Pringle, WEAVERVILLE, N.C.

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. - Donna Rae Pringle, 60, formerly of New Hampshire, died Tuesday from cancer after a brief stay at the Salas Hospital Center in Asheville, N.C. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of William and Hazel (Brooks) Kretschmar. She graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1960. She attended Plymouth State Teachers College. Between 1962 and 1970, she lived in several towns in the Plymouth area, the Lakes Region and Manchester. She lived in Meredith from 1970 to 1975. She lived in Mesa, Ariz., for 21/2 years and later lived in Hooksett. She moved to Weaverville, N.C., in 1989. Pringle worked for Sprague Electric Co. in Laconia, General Electric Aircraft Group in Hooksett and, most recently, Honeywell Micro Switch in Mars Hill, N.C. She was an active member of the Mount Bethel Free Will Baptist Church of Weaverville, N.C. Previously, she attended the Meredith Baptist Church and the Faith Baptist Church of Manchester. She enjoyed gardening, visiting friends, spending time with her family, watching soap operas and cooking for friends and family. Survivors include her husband, Malcolm Pringle of Weaverville; five daughters, Sarah Pringle of Weaverville, Brenda Schuchardt of Hart, Mich.; Karen Pringle and Kelly Gale, both of North Sutton; and Rebecca Pringle-Gleske of Berwick, Maine; two sisters, Bonnie Laliberte of Allenstown and Lois Lindh of Manchester; a brother, Arnold Kretschmar of Somersworth; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tonight at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester, from 7 to 9. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home tomorrow at 10 a.m. Pringle's nephew, the Rev. Jonathan Sindorf, pastor of the Farmington Pentecostal Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Meredith Village Cemetery. After the graveside service, a time of fellowship will be held at the Meredith Center Town Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford 03110-5032.

Antonia K. Allen, FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN - Antonia K. Allen, 90, of New Hampton Road died Saturday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. She was born in Franklin, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Dudek) Kliszewski. She was a lifelong Franklin resident. She served as a nurse in the Army during World War II. She worked at Sulloway Hosiery Co. and Holmes and Nelson Department Store. After raising her family, she worked as a ward clerk at Franklin Regional Hospital for several years. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the hospital for several years. She liked following her children and grandchildrens' sports activities. She was a member of the former Catholic Daughters of America, Court Annie Nesmith. She was a communicant of St. Paul Church. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Romeo Allen of Franklin; three sons, Edward Allen of Franklin, Michael Allen of Merrimack and Steven Allen of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Yanina Hough of Chelmsford, Mass.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Walter Kliszewski, John Kliszewski and Ludovic Kliszewski, died previously. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Paul Church. Martin I. Elkin, NEW CASTLE

NEW CASTLE - Martin I. "Marty" Elkin, 65, died Monday at home. He was born in New York City, the son of Nathan and Ruth Elkin. He attended Concord High School and earned a degree in business from the University of New Hampshire. Elkin served in the Air Force after college. He lived in California during his time in the military and then moved back to New Hampshire. He worked at Elkin Coffee in sales and in each department of the company. He served as owner and CEO before retiring. He was an active participant in many civic groups and in programs that supported the state's children. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Elkin; a son, Randall Elkin of Natick, Mass.; a daughter, Elisa Cleary of North Hampton; and three granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elkin Teaching Fellowship Endowment at Summerbridge Manchester, 2108 River Road, Manchester 03104-1396. J. Dolores E. Nenning, MOULTONBORO

MOULTONBORO - Dolores E. Nenning, 76, of Hanson Drive, died Aug. 3 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. She was born in Montreal, the daughter of John and Mildred (Letsch) Rutishauser. She lived in New Jersey for several years before moving to Moultonboro 32 years ago. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Nenning Appleby of Laval, Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Lana Gettings of New York, N.Y., and Sandi Vogel of Denver; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, John Nenning, died July 17. Calling hours will not be held. Burial for Dolores and John Nenning will be held with a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region General Hospital, 80 Highland St., Laconia, NH 03246.

Charlotte S. Bowie, LARGO, Fla.

LARGO, Fla. - Charlotte Swain Bowie, 81, died Wednesday at Bay Front Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Claude and Emma (Chesley) Swain. She was raised in East Concord. She lived in Pembroke and Webster before retiring to Largo, Fla., in 1991. She graduated from Concord High School in 1938 and earned an associate's degree in 1941 from Concord College of Business, where she ranked second in her class. She began her career as a manager for the Personal Finance Co. of Concord and later worked at Pembroke Boats and as an administrative assistant at the state Office of Health and Welfare. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rebekahs and the Eastern Star. She was a Friend of the Webster Public Library. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Suncook and later in Florida. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was an avid reader and writer and loved music and sports. She enjoyed playing the piano, working in her flower gardens and swimming at her summer cottage on Lake Blaisdell in Sutton. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Leon Bowie Sr. of Largo, Fla.; a son, Leon Bowie Jr. of Dunedin, Fla.; two daughters, Claudia Spangler of Deerfield and Jane Whittington of Hartford, Vt.; a sister, Constance Donaghey of Pembroke; and six grandchildren. Her first husband, Edward Whittington, died in 1962; and a son, Richard Whittington, died in 1972. A memorial service will be held Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at Suncook Methodist Church, 160 Main St., Suncook. The Rev. Virginia Jones will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Burn Hospital Boston, Donations Department, 51 Blossom St., Boston, Mass. 02114.

Laurent J. "Larry" Denoncourt Sr., 77, of Woodman Street, Concord, died yesterday at Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Hospice House. He was born in Concord, the son of the late Joseph and Ida (Marquis) Denoncourt. He graduated from Concord High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Denoncourt worked as a plumber at St. Paul's School for 19 years. He and his brother later opened Phil & Larry's Store. He was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rosemary (Walsh) Denoncourt; four sons, Larry Denoncourt Jr. of Bow, Dennis Denoncourt of Laconia, Doug Denoncourt of Bedford and Jeff Denoncourt of Concord; a sister, Lucille Audet of Laconia; and nine grandchildren. A brother, Phillip Denoncourt, died previously. Visiting hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 52 Pleasant St., Concord. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
