Cecile B. (Ledoux) Boucher, 89, of Manchester, died April 5, 2002, at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home after a lingering illness. Born in Manchester on Sept. 16, 1912, she was the daughter of Zephire and Bertha (Guertin) Ledoux, and had been a lifelong resident of the city. Before her retirement, she and her husband owned the L & L Supermarket. She enjoyed cards and bingo, and most of all, loved her children and grandchildren. Her husband, Leon Boucher, died in 1974. She was also predeceased by two sons, Bertrand and Gerald Boucher. The family includes three daughters, Rita Gagne of Melbourne, Fla., Denise Elaine Koyianis of Wichita, Kan., and Michelle Tellier of Ware, Mass.; three sons, Paul Boucher of Raleigh, N.C., Raymond Boucher of Pontiac, Mich., and Richard Boucher of McAllen, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Provost of Bedford and Therese Tardif of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 8 in St. Augustin Church. Burial will be in St. Augustin Cemetery. J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home in Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.

Frederick G. Carty Jr.

Frederick Fred G. Carty Jr., 69, of Harborside Health Care in Milford, died on March 17, 2002, at Southern New Hampshire Regional Hospital in Nashua after a lengthy illness. Mr. Carty was born on Aug. 30, 1932 in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Frederick and Martha (Langhan) Carty Sr. He retired from Sheet Metal Manufacturing in Brooklyn, N.Y., after 30 years. He moved to Milford in 1993. Mr. Carty enjoyed woodworking. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Carty. Family members include his wife of 47 years, Maureen (Dennehy) Carty; three daughters, Mrs. Terri Carty Pasieka of New Ipswich, Maura Carty of Holden, Mass., and Mrs. Martha Carty Plant of Milford; two granddaughters, Brenna Rose Pasieka and Jessica Lynn Plant; three brothers, Robert Carty of New York and John Carty and Kenneth Carty of North Carolina. A memorial service will take place at a later date. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Bea Constantine, 68, of Knollwood Drive, Merrimack, died April 10, 2002, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a brief illness. She was born in Webster, Mass., June 2, 1933, a daughter of Frederick W. and Stasia (Sledjick) Braman. Mrs. Constantine has been a resident of Merrimack since 1968 and was an avid bingo player. She had been employed as a cashier at the Bedford Cleaners. She was predeceased by her husband, Vasil Constantine, who died Oct. 21, 1991. Family members include two sons, John Constantine of Brandford, Fla., and James Constantine of Concord; two daughters, Tina Peno of Merrimack, and Nicole Marsh of Somersworth; seven grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Braman of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Doris Corbin of Framingham, Mass., and Constance Chaput of North Grosvenordale, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 13 in Our Lady of Mercy Church in Merrimack. Burial followed in Last Rest Cemetery. Aime A. Dion, 82, of Manchester, died April 8, 2002, at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home. He was born on May 27, 1919, in Manchester, the son of Joseph and Angeline (Delisle) Dion and had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Dion was a World War II Army veteran and retired from the Manchester Highway Department after more than 20 years of service. Family members include his wife of 36 years, Joyce (Gagne) Dion of Manchester; two sons, Thomas Dion of California, and Raymond Dion of Manchester; a daughter, Ann Gray of California; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Dion of Florida, and Arthur Dion of Manchester; three sisters, Rachel Allard of Auburn, Marie Lojko of Nashua, and Aurore Villeneuve of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 10 in St. Raphael Church. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Rose Margot Eaton, 15, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Friday, April 5, 2002, at her home. Miss Eaton was born Feb. 6, 1987, in Nashua, daughter of Dan and Gina Mae (Sipe) Eaton. She enjoyed writing poetry and recently toured Australia and New Zealand with People to People Ambassadors. Miss Eaton was a freshman at Bonanza High School in Las Vegas. In addition to her parents, survivors include two brothers, James Eaton of Las Vegas and Steve Eaton of Grafton, Mass.; her paternal grandfather, Stanley F. Eaton of Litchfield; her maternal grandfather, Charles Sipe of Hollis; a niece, Allycia Eaton of Grafton; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Maurice R. Goudreau

Maurice Moe Robert Goudreau, 52, of Hooksett, died March 22, 2002, at his home. He was born in Manchester Jan. 28, 1950, the son of Laurianna (Labrie) Goudreau, and the late Joseph A. Goudreau. He had been a resident of the Manchester and Hooksett communities for most of his life. He was a graduate of Ste. Marie High School, Class of 1968. Mr. Goudreau was a U.S. Army veteran for 11 years, and served during the Vietnam War, retiring as sergeant. He completed the noncommissioned officers course at the Army Engineer School at Ft. Belvoir, Va. He also attended the School of Industrial Management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was very active with researching the family genealogy. He loved history, rock n roll music and playing Scrabble. He was a programmer analyst with Tradepoint Systems, Inc. for the past five years. Family members include his wife, Gloria (Cales) Goudreau of Hooksett; three sons, James Goudreau of Lakeland, Fla., Sean Goudreau of Manchester and David Natt of Portsmouth; a daughter, Jennifer (Natt) Goldberg of Durham; his mother of Manchester; five grandchildren; five brothers, Brother Damian Goudreau, S.C., of Woonsocket, R.I., Robert Goudreau of Northport, Fla., and Rene Goudreau and Alfred Goudreau, both of Manchester and Edward Goudreau of Merrimack; two sisters, Pauline Lord of Derry and Lorraine Dionne of Merrimack; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward M. Houck, 59, of North Hampton died April 14, 2002 at his home. He was born August 16, 1942, in Greenwich, Conn., the son of the late Ted and Flora (Grant) Houck. Mr. Houck was raised in Greenwich, Conn., and Amherst, and was a graduate of Milford High School. He was also a graduate of Bryant Stratton College in Boston, Mass. He was a realtor and owned and operated Houck & Hall Realtors in Amherst. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Amherst Fire Department, serving as Lieutenant and Deputy Chief. He moved to the Seacoast and started E.M. Houck, Inc., Real Estate Developers of Hampton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Seacoast Big Brothers/Big Sisters board of directors for many years, a member of the National and State Association of Realtors for 35 years, a member of the Wentworth Marina, and served as chairman of the Amherst Historical Society. He was an avid skier and yachtsman. Family member include his wife and best friend, Kathleen K. Rush of North Hampton, four sons, John A. Mooney of Heath, Mass., Edward M. Houck, Jr. of Huntington, W.V., Michael J. Rush and Eric R. Rush both of Portsmouth; two daughters, Lisa Houck of Mansfield, Mass., Hillary Houck of Amherst; three grandchildren, Amanda Conn, Ellie Payne and Samatha Houck; one sister, Marcia Houck of Amherst; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret Dorothy Karnacewicz
Eucharist minister at St. James in Portsmouth
Margaret Dorothy (Cantlin) Karnacewicz, of Greenland, widow of Michael Alexander Karnacewicz, passed away at her home on April 11, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Born on June 16, 1934 in Keene, she was the daughter of the late Mark Chester and Agnes Johanna (White) Cantlin. She attended schools in Keene and received her bachelor s degree in chemistry at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn. Following graduation, she worked as a chemist for U.S. Rubber Company in Naugatuck, Conn., for several years prior to her marriage to Michael on July 9, 1960. Mrs. Karnacewicz tutored many students in the seacoast area junior and high schools systems by whom she is fondly remembered. She was also an accelerated math teacher at the Greenland Central School. Her interests included league candlepin bowling, car rides, knitting, gardening, and spending time at her family s camp on Wilson Pond, in East Swanzey, during the summer. Both she and her husband Michael, were chaperones for the Portsmouth High School marching band from 1982 through 1990. As a devout Catholic, her faith was an essential part of her life. She served as a Eucharistic Minister as St. James Parish in Portsmouth and was a member of the Parish s fund-raising committee. She was also very active in the fund-raising efforts of New Hampshire Catholic Charities. Mrs. Karnacewicz s charitable work extended beyond the church. She was a board member of the Area Homemaker Health Aide Service in Portsmouth for many years. Her efforts enabled the organization to expand and provide greater assistance to the elderly and homebound in need in the seacoast area. She was predeceased by a her son, Matthew. Survivors include her children, Micheleen, Mark and his wife Kathlene, Michael, and Martin and his wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her paternal aunt Mary Bouffard of Keene, as well as numerous cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 15 at St. James Church in Portsmouth. Carol Kalapanidas Klose

Carol Kalapanidas Klose, 54, of Manchester, died April 12, 2002, at Merrimack Community Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was born in Manchester on Aug. 4, 1947, the daughter of Arthur and Georgia (Komatos) Kalapanidas. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School. Until her retirement, Mrs. Klose had been employed by Verizon, previously New England Telephone, for 15 years. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She leaves behind many close friends at Verizon and in her community. Family members include her mother of Manchester; her husband, John Klose of Manchester; three stepsons, J. Kevin Klose of North Conway, Scott Klose of Bedford and Mark Klose of Manchester; a stepdaughter, Christine Klose Villeneuve of Bedford; five grandchildren; and several aunts and cousins. The funeral was April 15 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, with the Rev. Michael Kouremetis officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester. Louise Kolbe

Louise Kolbe 68, of Pheasant Run, Merrimack, died April 14, 2002, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a long illness. She was born in Beverly, Mass., a daughter of Louis F. and Mary Abby (Proctor) Carbone. Mrs. Kolbe was a resident of Merrimack for more than 30 years. She retired from the Social Security Administration and also had worked at the law firm of Wiggin and Nourie PA. She was a member of the National Thespian Society, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Family members include her husband of 49 years, Thomas Kolbe of Merrimack; a daughter, Kama Schneider of Bel Air, Md.; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a cousin. Leo J. Chakmakas
World War II Navy veteran
Leo J. Chakmakas, 80, of Manchester, died April 8, 2002, at his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Lowell, Mass., the son of John and Panagiota (Markos) Chakmakas and had been a resident of New Hampshire for the past 50 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the American Legion Jutras Post. Mr. Chakmakas developed retail displays for many local department stores. He was predeceased by his wife, Irma (Grandmaison) Chakmakas, who died April 1. Family members include a son, John Chakmakas of Bedford, a daughter, Catherine Proctor of Manchester; three grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Chakmakas of New York, and George Chakmakas of Manchester; a sister, Olga Chakmakas of Lowell, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Armand J. Lamy

Armand J. Lamy, 86, of Manchester, died April 5, 2002, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Manchester on May 12, 1915, the son of Ovila and Marie Leda (Gariepy) Lamy, and had been a lifelong Manchester resident. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He held membership in the Mont Royal Club, the Rimmon Club and the East Side Club. Mr. Lamy worked in the shoe industry for 35 years and then for Shop & Save for 15 years, retiring at age 84. The family includes his wife of 32 years, Irene (Dubois) Lamy of Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Maureen) Hebert of Goffstown; a grandson; four brothers, Roger Lamy of Bedford, Laurent Lamy of Goffstown, Leo Lamy and Raymond Lamy, both of Manchester; five sisters, Sr. Marie Claire Lamy, PM., of Hudson, Mrs. Charles (Laurette) Pelchat, Mrs. Roland (Irene) Laverdiere of Portsmouth, Mrs. Buster (Claire) Browning of Manchester, and Mrs. Maurice (Therese) Doucette of Dover; and several nieces and nephews. Maud Marilyn (Mulcahy) Martellucci, 70, formerly of Andover, Mass., died April 9, 2002, at her home. She was born on Dec. 13, 1931, in Somerville, Mass. After many years of working in different fields, she retired in 1997. Family members include her husband of 53 years, Salvatore P. Martellucci of New Durham; two sons, John J. Martellucci of Andover, and Jared L. Martellucci of Lawrence, Mass.; a daughter, Jill J. Martellucci of Billerica, Mass.; a grandson; two granddaughters; a brother, Russell Mulcahy of Hollis; a sister, Gail (Mulcahy) Stokes of Chariton, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Brian R. Martin
Lifelong resident of Nashua
Brian R. Martin, 46, of Nashua, died April 2, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a lengthy illness. Mr. Martin was born Feb. 21, 1956, in Nashua, son of Cecile J. (Gendron) Martin of Nashua and the late Robert J. Martin, who died Oct. 2, 1999. He was a lifelong Nashua resident. Prior to his illness, he had been employed with H & M Metals Inc. of Amherst and George Gordon Associates of Merrimack. Mr. Martin enjoyed baseball and was a Nashua Pride fan. He also enjoyed collecting fire engines and firefighting memorabilia. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Nashua. Educated in Nashua, he attended the former Sacred Heart School of St. Patrick Church and graduated from Nashua High School in 1976. Besides his mother, survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan Steinbrueck of Mountainview, Calif., and Patricia and Donald Coco Tyler of Merrimack; two nephews, Bryan and Steven Steinbrueck; a niece, Samantha Tyler; five aunts and three uncles, Ruth and Norman Pete Martin, Lorraine and Arthur Plante, Camille Girouard, and Leo and Collette Gendron, all of Nashua, and Alma Levesque of Cocoa, Fla.; and several cousins. Jessica Leann Martin, 30, of Nashua, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua after a brief illness. Mrs. Martin was born April 20, 1971, in Nashua, daughter of Anne P. (Hamel) Lacasse of Nashua and the late Paul Charles Decato, who died Sept. 25, 2001. She had made her home in Nashua for most of her life. She was the widow of Wayne Martin Sr., who died in 1994. Mrs. Martin enjoyed spending time with her children and family. She was educated in Nashua schools. Besides her mother, survivors include two sons, Wayne Jr. and Matthew Martin, both of Nashua; a daughter, Katrina Martin of Nashua; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Renald Lacasse Jr. and his fiancee, Kelly Stolkes, of Nashua and Patrick and Shannon Lacasse of Hudson; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Monica and Richard Gallant of Brookline, Angela Decato of Milford and Tammy and Peter Morris of Hudson; her stepfather, Renald A. Lacasse of Nashua; her companion, Russ English of Nashua; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held April 16 in the Farwell Funeral Home, Nashua. James J. McGrath
Little League baseball coach
James Joseph McGrath Jr., 69, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at his residence following a long illness. Mr. McGrath was born in Teaneck, N.J., son of James Joseph Sr. and Muriel (Duryea) McGrath of Highland Lake, N.J. He had been a resident of Goffstown for the past seven years, previously residing in Merrimack and Londonderry. He was the husband of Betty Brandt McGrath of Goffstown. Prior to his retirement in 1998, Mr. McGrath had been employed for several years with Prizio Reality of Windham. Known as Coach McGrath, he coached Little League baseball and Pop Warner football teams in Merrimack and Teaneck, N.J. He was a founder of the youth hockey program in Merrimack. Mr. McGrath was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict as a captain. He was a graduate of Rutgers University. Survivors include two sons, James Timothy McGrath of Providence, R.I., and Robert John McGrath of Londonderry; two daughters, Beth Clark of Goffstown and Carolynn McGrath-Herman of Manchester; two sisters, Muriel P. Nist of Sicra Vista, Ariz., and Judith Schalk of Highland Lake; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held April 17 in the French & Rising Funeral Home in Goffstown. Internment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Edelgard McMahon
Leaves a daughter in Amherst
Edelgard (Guier) McMahon, 70, of Salem, died April 11, 2002, at her home. Mrs. McMahon was born in Kolon Dellbruck, Germany, daughter Frieda (Niemann) Guier of Andover, Mass. She retired as a registered nurse from Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Mass. She worked at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., in the Intensive Care Unit and post cardiac care unit. She also worked at the Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital, Danvers (Mass.) State Hospital, Tewksbury (Mass.) State Hospital and St. Johns Hospital in Lowell. In 1996, she became a caregiver for her mother, until her own illness in April 2001. Mrs. McMahon attended nursing school in Lancashire County, Warrington, England, and in 1970 she became a registered nurse in Massachusetts. She was predeceased by a daughter, Erin McMahon, who died in 1965. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Kim McMahon of Windham and Christopher G. McMahon of Nashua; three daughters and a son-in-law, Rowena McMahon and Elliot Pratt of Amherst, Heidi McMahon of Allentown, Pa., and Kirsten McMahon of Salem; a brother, Wolfgang Guier of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held April 16 at The Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, Salem, followed by cremation. Kathleen I. Norman

Kathleen Ione Norman, 64, of Tinker Road, Merrimack, died April 6, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Norman was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Boston, daughter of the late Gilbert Charles and Kathleen Marie (Osborne) Blanchard. She lived in the Boston area during her youth and made her home in Merrimack for the past 41 years. She was the wife of Robert H. Norman Jr. of Merrimack, whom she married in September 1961. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last year. Mrs. Norman was a registered nurse and began her career in Boston as a teaching nurse and private duty nurse. She then worked at both the former Nashua Memorial Hospital and at St. Joseph Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed playing bingo. Mrs. Norman was educated in Massachusetts, graduating from Somerville High School and receiving her registered nurse certification from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She later earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from New England College. Besides her husband, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. III and Kimberly Norman of Nashua; a daughter, Rebecca Mae Norman of Milford; four grandchildren, Douglas J. Norman, Sherryn E. Norman, Kristen Norman and Joshua R. Norman; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth and Louis Rossi of Woodsville and Geraldine Taft of Somerville, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Olive Pillow of Rustburg, Va.; a brother-in-law, Richard Grant of Arlington, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Anthony V. Pelkey, 53, of Nashua, died April 8, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. Mr. Pelkey was born Nov. 8, 1948, in Nashua, son of Raymond Pelkey of Greene, N.Y., and the late Trinidad (Benavidez) Pelkey. He was the husband of Eva (Coston) Pelkey of Nashua. Mr. Pelkey had been employed with Monarch Industries in Amherst. He enjoyed golf and watching sports on television. Mr. Pelkey was predeceased by a son, Chris Pelkey, who died in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Pelkey and Melissa Pelkey, both of Nashua; two brothers, Robert Pelkey of Hudson and Dean Pelkey of Wilton; two sisters, Doreen Pelkey of Milford and Linda Pygon of Greene, N.Y.; three stepsons, Joseph Martin and Jamie Martin, both of Merrimack, and Craig Martin of Manchester; two stepdaughters, Veldawna Kimball of Nashua and Kelly Kimball of Manchester; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson is in charge of arrangements.

Joan L. Steinbrecher
Avid doll collector
Joan L. Steinbrecher, 63, of Deerwood Drive, Amherst, died April 12, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. Mrs. Steinbrecher was born June 28, 1938, in Camden, N.J., daughter of the late Harry and Florence (Blizzard) Dehn. She had been a resident of Amherst for more than 30 years. She was the wife of Frederick A. Steinbrecher of Amherst, to whom she had been married for 44 years. Mrs. Steinbrecher was an avid doll collector and enjoyed needlework and crafts. Survivors include three sons, Frederick A. Steinbrecher Jr. of Missouri and Christian D. Steinbrecher and Kurt H. Steinbrecher, both of Milford; a daughter, Dr. Barbara L. Steinbrecher of Goffstown; a sister, Andrea Bargus of Barrington, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held April 16 at the Smith & Heald Funeral Home in Milford. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst.

Rita L. Vaillancourt
Worked as seamstress for many years
Rita L. Vaillancourt, 77, of Manchester, died April 1, 2002, at Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Manchester, July 24, 1924, she was the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Tardiff) Cloutier. She was a lifelong resident. She retired three years ago from George s Clothing Mart, where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Mrs. Vaillancourt was a communicant of St. Edmond Church of the Parish of the Transfiguration. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Vaillancourt, in 1988. Family members include a daughter, Irene L. Riley of Manchester; a son, Robert F. Vaillancourt of Bedford; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 4 in St. Edmond Church of the Parish of the Transfiguration. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Memorial Giving Program, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03102-5032.

Stephen V. Zarakotas
Served in the Army during World War II
Stephen V. Fritz Zarakotas, 84, died April 13, 2002, at Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness He was born in Manchester, on May 8, 1917, the son of Vasilios and Eprosine (Papdemitriou) Zarakotas. He was educated in the local school system. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the manager of the Pericles Club in Manchester for many years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Queen City Chapter. Members of his family include his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Betty (Gallant) Zarakotas of Bedford; three sons, Anthony Zarakotas and Christopher Zarakotas, both of Bedford, and William Zarakotas of Manchester; one step-daughter Deborah Skorupski of Pinardville; two grandsons; one step-granddaughter; three great-granddaughters; three brothers, Vaios Zarakotas of Lowell, Mass., Gregory Zarakotas and Spyros Zarakotas, both of Manchester; and a sister, Stavrula Zarakotas of Manchester. A Trisagion Service was held at April 16 at the McHugh Funeral Home, Manchester. A funeral service was also held April 17 in St. George Orthodox Church.
