Richard Reese

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Richard Henry Reese, 67, of Oldsmar, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Oldsmar, at his residence.

He was born in South Berwick, Maine, and moved to Oldsmar. He was a welder.

Survivors include his sisters, Donna M. Wright of Oldsmar, Jean E. Tercotte of Rollinsford, N.H., Carol J. Croteau of Rollinsford, Sandra Bouchard of Seattle, Wash.; and one son, Joey Reese, Washington.

Charles Foss
NAUGATUCK, Conn. - Charles Foss, 60, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at his home.

Born July 29, 1943 in Rochester, N.H., he was the son of Norman E. and Doris (Blanchard) Foss. He graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester and later from Portsmouth Technical Institute in Portsmouth, N.H.

He was a member of the Humane Lodge F&AM 21 of Rochester. He had a successful career as a machinist/tool and die maker. In the early 1970s he was one of three American representatives to participate in a machine show hosted in Russia, a testament of his excellent skills and focused imagination and creativity. Most recently he became a partner in Custom Automations in Beacon Falls, Conn.

Members of his family include a daughter, Margaret N. (John) Konczal of New Bern, N.C.; his mother, Doris Foss of Rochester; two sisters, Felicia A. (James) Hermann on Tucson, Ariz., and Pamela J. Oulton of Barrington, N.H.; goddaughter, Jamie M. Foss of Massachusetts; goddaughter, Kelly Coleman of Texas; lifelong friends, Colman and Maxine Garland of Orange, Conn. They along with three grandchildren, two nephews and one niece, cherish him and remember him for his generosity, caring, insatiable curiosity and love of reading and love for animals.

His father, Norman E. Foss, predeceased him in 1990.

Family and friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester, N.H.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with Steve Spearing, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place at Rochester Cemetery following the service.

Alice Gervais

RAYMOND - Alice M. Gervais, 86, of Fordway Road, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

She was born in Chelmsford, Mass., on May 8, 1917, the daughter of Stanley and Ella (Venoit) Barr.

She grew up in and was a longtime resident of Exeter, before moving to Raymond with her daughter 15 years ago.

She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Brentwood, and formerly when it was in Exeter.

In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family, and feeding and watching the birds.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest C. Gervais; and two sons, Charles Gervais and Stanley Gervais.

She is survived by six daughters, Priscilla Colby of Raymond, Alice Gilbert of Moultonboro, Mary Moore of Epping, Peggy Stevens of Dover, Kathy Joy of New Durham, and Bonnie Skinner of Raymond; two sons, Howard Gervais of Epping, and Gerald Gervais of Northwood; 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two brothers, Howard Barr of Rochester, and Charlie Barr of Exeter; many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

Please do not send flowers. Donations may be made in her memory to the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Route 27, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Edna Lapham

LEE - Edna F. Lapham, 94, of Kirkwood Corners, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Exeter Hospital.

Born in New York City on March 15, 1909, she was the daughter of Anton and Christine (Moelethe) Dambacher. She resided in Wellesley Hills, Mass., for 50 years before moving to Kirkwood Corners in Lee, in 2001.

She was a graduate of Brooklyn Academy and was a 1930 graduate of Wheelock College in Boston.

She married Ralph Proctor Lapham of Concord, Mass., on July 14, 1933. He died in 1969. While living in Concord, she was a member of West Concord Union Church.

For 50 years she was active in the Wellesley Village Congregational Church and worked at various church events, including the rummage sale.

She was a devoted and loving wife and mother of Gail L. Butters of Denver, Colo., and Gary Lapham of Durham; she was also the grandmother of Leslie Wallace, Andrew Butters, Dana Butters, Mark Lapham and Budd Lapham; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Mass. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, is assisting with the arrangements.

Nancy Ruths

ROCHESTER - Nancy Ruth Ruths, 70, of 5 Ryan Circle, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at her home.

Born in Portsmouth on Sept. 16, 1933, she was the daughter of Earle and Doris (House) Beede.

She was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother. Her generosity was illustrated through her charitable contributions. She enjoyed bingo, collecting angels, and finding gifts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Vicki and her husband, Lou Carder, of Rochester, Eben and his wife, Diane Huston, of Rochester, Pamela and her husband, Brad Bowden, of Farmington, Susan and husband, Ron Lovell, of Rochester, Donna and her husband, Armand Larochelle, of Rochester, and Laura and her husband, Walter Smith, of Milford; a sister, Dorothea Pento, of Rochester. There are 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Ruths, in 2002.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at 6 tonight in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jeanette Thibodeau

LYNN, Mass. - Jeanette Thibodeau, 78, of Lynn, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Salem Hospital, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Thibodeau, Sr.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of William B. Hathaway and Ella A. (Russell) Hathaway-Kinnie. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1943. She was a lifelong resident of the city.

She was a life member of the Maple Street United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Women’s Society Group. She was a member of Donna’s Hair Design Social Club and enjoyed shopping trips.

She leaves a son, Arthur E. Thibodeau, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Lynn; three daughters, Janis Dow of Rochester, Susan L. Durkee of Somersworth, and Kathy L. Rebidue and her husband, Richard, of Lynn; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Russell Hathaway, Robert Hathaway, and Constance Ray. She was also the companion of the late Eric "Walter" Erickson.

A funeral service will be held at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Barbara Whitlow

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Barbara Faye (Davis) Whitlow, 43, wife of Paul C. Whitlow of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

Born to John and Helen Davis of Jefferson City, Tenn., on May 2, 1960, she was raised and lived in Tennessee all her life. Barbara was a CAN, having worked at the Ridgeview Terrace in Rutledge for 19 years. She was a loving wife, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all those she had touched in her life.

She was predeceased in death by her father-in-law, Perley E. Welch in 1998, and her father, John Davis in January 2000. She leaves behind many who have loved and cared for her, including her husband of nine years, Paul Whitlow; mother-in-law, Irene J. Welch; sisters-in-law, Rhonda and Brian Pomerleau, Holly Welch and Frank Ravo, and Tammy Welch, all of Knoxville, and Kim and Wes Capwell of Jacksonville, Fla.

She also leaves behind her mother, one sister, Diane Talley of Rutledge; one brother, Earl Davis; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Resurrection Garden of Highland South Memorial Park on Chapman Highway. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Barbara Whitlow Fund, P.O. Box 1123, Seymour, TN 37865.

Stanley Zinck

EAST ROCHESTER - Stanley R. Zinck, 61, of 25 Grove St., died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.

Although he will be deeply missed, his family and friends are thankful his suffering is over, and he is now at peace after a four-year battle with cancer.

Born in Rochester on June 4, 1942, he was the son of Melton and Katherine (Wishart) Zinck. He was a graduate of Spaulding High School, Class of 1960 and had some wonderful lifetime friends that he would meet once a month for lunch and who supported him during his hard times. He looked forward to their calls and visits.

He was employed by the Portsmouth Post Office most of his work career. Many of his co-workers were very special to him during his long illness with gifts, cards, visits, flowers and support.

He was a quiet, kind and gentle man who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He especially loved family get-togethers and would encourage all the kids and grown-ups to join in with games.

During his illness, he had a lot of empathy for friends who were sick and would always pray for them and showed care and concern. He loved his two sons, their wives and his three grandsons who called him "Grampa Stan." He would light up with happiness no matter how sick he was when they visited. Spending time with his family was what he truly loved the most.

He was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, nephew, and friend. One of his greatest supporters was his Aunt Nell from Canada, who is 97 years old. She called many times, sent cards and letters, flowers and even wrote a song and sent it to him on a cassette.

He enjoyed his garden in his back yard, and it made him happy to share vegetables with family and friends. It was also great therapy for him during his illness. He liked projects of any kind and was always willing to share suggestions on how to get it done.

He was a great sports enthusiast, enjoying the Red Sox and Patriots.

Members of his family include his sons, Stephen and his wife, Bobbi Zinck, of South Berwick, Maine, and Brian and his wife, Gwen Zinck, of New Durham; three grandsons, Christian and Matthew of South Berwick, and Kelvin of New Durham; and the mother of his sons, Shirley Clements; three sisters, Muriel Cummings and husband, Stew, of Dover, Janet Furbush and husband, Ron, of East Rochester, Sylvia Warren of Rochester; two brothers, Melton Zinck of Nashua, and Gilbert Zinck and his wife, Donna of Lebanon, Maine.

Family and friends may visit Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. William Powell officiating. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery, East Rochester.

Flowers will be appreciated or if desired, memorials in his name may be made to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH. 03833.

Ernest Brown
STRAFFORD - Ernest (Tim) B. Brown, 89, of 1095 Province Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Concord Hospital following a period of failing health.

Born June 17, 1914 in Cranston R.I., he was the son of Ernest and Anne (Ellis) Brown. He was a graduate of Choate-Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn., and Yale University in New Haven, Conn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was president of AREX Indemnity Co. of New York.

He owned and operated Tim Brown Insurance of Kittery, Maine, and was a member of the New Hampshire Legislature in the 1980s. He was a member of the Collectors Club of Concord, the Strafford Historical Society, the Bow Lake Community Club, Hill Library Association, a 30-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and a lifetime member of Mystic Seaport.

Members of his family include his wife, Veronica (McDonough) Brown, of Strafford; his children, Tyler B. (Christina) Brown of Strafford, Elissa A. (Brad) Thibodeau of East Andover, Maine, Hammond F. (Eliza) Brown of Gilmanton Iron Works, and Wayne E. (Martha) Brown of Mercer Island, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Ann T. Brown, of Burlington, Vt.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia T. Brown; second wife, Frances Brown; a son, E. Gregory Brown; and a brother, Wayne Brown.

A memorial service will be held March 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Bow Lake Baptist/Community Church of Strafford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, 54 Portsmouth St., Concord, NH 03301.

Albert A. Carson

DOVER - Albert A. Carson, Jr., 63, of 7 Morgan Way, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1940, the son of Albert and Catherine (Duest) Carson, Sr. in Beverly, Mass.

He and his family moved from Newmarket to Dover in 1989.

He worked in the automotive repair industry for 45 years. He enjoyed working for Dover Auto Body, where he retired.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 331 in Beverly, Mass., American Legion Post 8, Beverly Elks, and the Dover Moose.

He enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes with his boys, camping with his family and taking rides in his car with his sidekick, Shadow. He had the ability to fix anything that was broken. His family will remember him as a very caring person and a fierce and loyal friend.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the crew at Dover Auto Body for treating him with the respect he deserved.

Family survivors include his wife, Dianne (Lizotte) Carson, of Dover; three sons, Kevin and Stephen of Dover, and Michael of Barrington; three daughters, Patricia Carson of Center Harbor, Linda Jalbert of Rochester, and Lisa Reichart and her husband, Louis, of Maryland; two sisters, Josephine D’Amato of Salem, Mass., and June Silva of Danvers, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Krystal, Erica, Patrick, Bradley, Erika and Madison; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Destinee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Catherine (Duest) Carson, Sr.

Family and friends are invited to call Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gail Kindberg, chaplain of Seacoast Hospice, officiating.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Dover Seacoast Hospice, 642 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

Nancy Davis

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Nancy Davis, 55, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in Punta Gorda, Fla.

She was born in Chicopee, Mass., on June 11, 1948 to John and the late Virginia Kislus.

Her long and devoted career as a nurse started with a LPN nursing degree from Dean Vocational School in 1969. She returned to school for an RN degree after working in nursing homes for many years and received an associate RN degree from Northern Essex Community College in 1984 and a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of New Hampshire in 1986, graduating cum laude.

Always looking for new challenges and intellectual advancement, she worked in many aspects of nursing, including the Clipper Home of Portsmouth and the Seacoast Visiting Nurse Association.

During the 1990s, she was a nurse for a plastic surgeon and cardiologist. Most recently, she worked in IMCU at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, which she found challenging and stimulating.

She moved to Portsmouth in 1982 with her husband, Robert, the owner of Yudy’s Tire, and their daughters, Jennifer and Jackie. She and her husband had lived in the Seacoast area since, and most recently in Punta Gorda for the winters. Her love of the ocean, walking and golfing brought her and her husband outdoors, with many trips to Cape Cod and Rhode Island in the summer as well as the Rockingham Country Club, where they were both members.

In addition to her husband, Robert Davis, she is survived by her daughters, Jennifer and husband, Timothy, of Greenland, and Jacqueline and husband, Kenneth, of Warwick, R.I.; four grandchildren, Timmy and Holly, and Kyle and Bryce; her father, John Kislus and wife, Annette, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; her brothers, Danny Kislus and wife, Jonina, of Newmarket, David Kislus of Chicopee, Mass., Jonny Kislus of Chicopee, and Mark Kislus of Philipston, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Susan Ucello of Windsor Locks, Conn., and Linda and John Spinelli of Chichester, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Virginia; and her mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Henry Davis of Windsor Locks, Conn.

She was outgoing, kind and generous. She will be missed by her many friends and family, including her grandchildren, who loved their Mimi.

A memorial service and reception will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at the Greenland Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
