Charles Esterline

GREENLAND - Charles "Chuck" W. Esterline, 68, husband of Arlene (Ivon) Esterline of 63 Tuttle Lane, died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Carmel, Ind., he was born on June 21, 1934, the son of David and Blanche Esterline. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1952 and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After four years of service, he was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant and re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1972.

Upon his retirement, he continued to work for the government for an additional 10 years. Mr. Esterline most recently had been employed as a grounds keeper for the Abenaqui Country Club. He will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife, Arlene, survivors include two stepsons, Richard Mullikin and Donald Mullikin; three stepdaughters, Corinne Muder, Arlene Mullikin and Kim Mullikin; several grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte Rives.

He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Alan Estey

STRAFFORD - Alan H. Estey, 68, of Strafford, formerly of Exeter, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Exeter after a long illness.

He was born July 7, 1934, in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Albert and Margaret (Walker) Estey.

He grew up in Fitchburg and attended the local school system, where he was a member of the football team at Fitchburg High School. He attended Springfield College, where he received a bachelor of science degree, and Rutgers University, where he received a master’s of science degree.

He arrived in Exeter in 1969, when he accepted a position at Phillips Exeter Academy as head football coach. He retired after 31 years at Phillips Exeter in 2000, most recently as the Director of Special Athletics.

He was a member of the American Football Coaches Association and Gridiron Club.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margaret (Robertson) Estey of Strafford; two sons, Scott and Mark; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Miller; granddaughter, Emma; one brother, David Estey and his wife, Doris; cousins, nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2003.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Seacoast Hospice, 642 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, is handling the arrangements.

Albertine Fitzgerald

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Albertine Fitzgerald, 93, of 1 Parent St., died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in East Bridgewater, Mass., on June 4, 1909, she was the daughter of Joseph Henry and Ora (Plourde) Bergeron. She was a former resident of Millbury, Mass., prior to moving here in 1976.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Michael’s Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd M. Fitzgerald, who died in 1991.

She is survived by three sons, Dexter A. Fitzgerald of Idaho, John A. Fitzgerald of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Dennis C. Fitzgerald of Maui, Hawaii; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St. A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Michael’s Church, Young Street, with the Rev. H.J. Cameron, pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Holli Hart

DURHAM - Holli Hart, 48, of Durham Point Road, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Greenland, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Born Feb. 17, 1954, in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of Bernard and Nancy (Wooster) DesRoches, she had resided in Hawaii for 25 years before moving to Durham 12 years ago.

Ms. Hart received her bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of New Hampshire, as a member of the Golden Key and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. For the last 10 years, was the business manager of Chaseso Construction in Durham.

She was very involved in Durham civic affairs and assisted in the formation of Durham Cable Access Television.

A breast cancer survivor, her strength of character and concern for those around her motivated her in the service of others, on a community and personal level.

She had a deep interest in the arts and creatively combined old and new to produce a style that reflected her unique personality. She had a love of animals domestic and wild alike and a special devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Chase Jr. of Durham; one daughter, Jennifer L. Koos of Durham; two brothers, Charles DesRoches of Salinas, Calif., and William DesRoches of Watsonville, Calif.; one sister, Amy DesRoches of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two stepsons, Malcolm Chase III of Yarmouth, Maine, and Jeremiah Chase II of Yarmouth; mother-in-law, Charlotte Chase of Durham; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. from the Community Church of Durham, Main Street, Durham, with the Rev. Mary Westfall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

John Rossetti

METHUEN, Mass. - John B. Rossetti, 80, of Methuen, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.

He was born in Dunsmuir, Calif., and graduated from Dunsmuir High School, Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II on the USS Long Beach and the USS Coronado.

He loved to fish. He was a Little League coach in Methuen for several years. He retired from Phillips Academy in Andover and previously worked for Mead, Plymold and Continental Plastics.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Mary J. (Passanisi) of Methuen; his daughter, Frances M. Rossetti of Methuen; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Catherine Rossetti of Barrington, N.H.; his sister, Angelina Entwistle of Petaluma, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Manfredi, Lucy Ferrari and Josephine Bastaini.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen, Mass. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Lawrence, Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Massachusetts Chapter, Suite 707, 720 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118.

Eleanor Roy

DOVER - Eleanor T. Roy, 63, of 3 Berkshire Lane, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.

Henry Shaheen

DOVER - Henry N. Shaheen, 79, of 35 Oak St., died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at his home after battling lung cancer.

He was born in Dover on Oct. 15, 1923, the son of Chickory and Mary Frances (Nasseur) Shaheen. He was a graduate of the Dover Schools, the University of New Hampshire and Ole Mississippi University Law School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of two purple hearts. He was a member of the Dover Post No. 8 American Legion.

He had his own law practice in Senatobia, Miss., and then served as the clerk of the Sullivan County Superior Court for over 20 years until his retirement in 1988.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Duncan (Judith Ann) Benney of Weimar, Calif.; four sons, Thomas H. Shaheen of Dover, Peter Edmund Shaheen of Dover, Joseph Michael Shaheen of Newport, Mich., and Mark D. Shaheen of Dover; 10 grandchildren, Ashley Benney, Duncan Benney, Christopher Benney, Peter Shaheen, Ryan Shaheen, Alexandra Shaheen, Nicole Shaheen, Kayli Shaheen, Andrew Shaheen and Alicia Shaheen; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Marie (Dickinson) Shaheen, who died in 1997; and five brothers, Michael Shaheen, Nick Shaheen, Emile Shaheen, Raymond Shaheen and Robert Shaheen.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut and Third Streets, with the Rev. Fritz Cerullo, OSA, pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Those who wish are invited to make memorials in his name to the N.H. Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110; or to the Wentworth-Douglass Home Care & Hospice, 113 New Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820.

Priscilla Walker

DOVER - Priscilla Ann (Cromwell) Walker, 80, of Dover, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Langdon Place of Dover.

She was born on May 8, 1922, in Chelsea, Mass., raised in Melrose, Mass., and spent her high school years playing basketball and writing poetry in Raymond.

She was the daughter of George and Grace (Kimball) Cromwell.

She gave 32 years of her life to the Portsmouth School Department, mostly working in the elementary schools, where she loved being the matriarch of every child in that school. She spent the latter part of her school department life in the Superintendent’s Office, where she loved the people she worked with but missed the children.

She had a spirit, love, empathy and a smile for everyone she ever met.

She gave her time and energy to two decades of volunteer work with the March of Dimes, the Cub Scouts, the Girl Scouts and had attended the Middle Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth.

She will be missed by her three children, Susan E. Bilodeau of Portsmouth, Wayne G. Walker of Medfield, Mass., and David N. Walker of Chardon, Ohio; eight grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Cromwell Harney; many nieces, nephews and friends from her two favorite towns of Portsmouth and Wolfeboro.

Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Thursday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Wadleigh House, 10 Summer St., Dover, NH 03820.

Ruth Willey

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. - Ruth Willey, 84, formerly of Newmarket, N.H., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at IHS of Brandon, Brandon, Fla.

Born June 27, 1918, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Joseph and Carolina (Crespi) Zocchi.

She had lived in Newmarket for many years before moving to Florida in the mid-1970s.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Willey, who died in 1977.

Survivors include one son, John Willey and his wife, Donna of Newmarket; one daughter, Carole Miesowicz and her husband, Arthur of Rochester; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Elliott Luoni of Abbington, Mass.; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket, N.H.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833; or the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

James Wilson

ROCHESTER - James M. Wilson, 83, of 20 Monadnok Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on Nov. 17, 1919, the son of Andrew and Mary (Maitland) Wilson. He had lived in Massachusetts since 1952 and in the Rochester area since 1984.

Mr. Wilson had worked for a number of years as a technician with Analog Device in Wilmington, Mass. He was also a professional artist for many years, also doing various works as a hobby.

He was a lifetime member of the Masons, both in Scotland and in the United States.

He enjoyed eating his wife’s German cooking and was widely known as her dish washer. He enjoyed square dancing, sculpturing and playing the organ and guitar.

One of his great joys was his poodle, Heather.

His family described him as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 24 years, Berta Diem Wilson of Rochester; his children and their spouses, Lindsey and Sylvia Wilson of Temple, Werner and Suzie Rodgers of Greensboro, N.C., Averil Wilson and Bruce Clatt of Stoneham, Mass., Janice and Artie Sullivan of Hudson, Katherine Rodgers of Londonderry and Cindy Tello of Hudson; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and two very special nieces in Australia, Marlyn Rinortner and Lorna Brassington.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral & Cremation Services, 177 North Main St., Rochester.

Alice Blanchette
HONOLULU, Hawaii - Alice Boulet Blanchette, 100, died May 28, 2004. She was born in Rochester, N.H., and moved to Hawaii in 1970 with her son, Gerard, and his family, when he was transferred to Pearl Harbor with the U.S. Navy submarine service.

She had been a homemaker and helped her husband, Gedeon "Phil" Blanchette, in his Somersworth barber shop for more than 20 years. She had four children, Alice, Raymond, Laurette and Gerard.

She is survived by her two sons; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21 at St. Martin Church in Somersworth at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

It has been suggested that memorial donations be directed to the University of Hawaii Foundation, Geriatrics Department, 347 N. Kuakini St., Suite HPM-9, Honolulu, HI 96817.

Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 N. Main St., Rochester, N.H.

William Burns

ST. MARYS, Ga. - William R. Burns, 69, of St. Marys, Ga., died on Monday, May 24, 2004, at Shands Jacksonville Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War and retiring with 23 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he lived in Somersworth, N.H., and was employed by Waste Management Co. He moved to St. Marys in 1988 and was a civil service employee of the St. Mary’s Trident Submarine Facility until his retirement in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Elaine A. (Seaver) Burns of St. Marys; brothers, Robert Burns of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Thomas Hall of Georgetown, Tenn.; sisters, Marie Moore and Karen Blanton, both of Columbus, Ohio, Hilda Hughart and Clara Small, both of Troy, Ohio, Mary Plants of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He will best be remembered by all who knew him for his kindness to friends and family, sense of humor and excellent mechanical skills. If anything is broken in heaven, he will be happy to fix it.

A memorial service was held at Allison Memorial Chapel on May 29.

Internment will be in Dover, N.H., at a later date.
