Bernadette Bernier
EPPING - Bernadette L. Bernier, 91, of Railroad Ave., died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born March 22, 1910 in Brentwood, daughter of the late Napoleon and Roseanna (Jolicoeur) Talbot.

She had grown up in Brentwood, and for the last 72 years she had been a resident of Epping.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Epping, she was very active with the landscaping and planting at the church and at her home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest A. Bernier, who died on June 22, 1984.

She is survived by one son, Ernest A. Bernier Jr., and wife Karen, of Dover; three daughters, Victorine and Robert KillKelley of Merrimack, Norita Bernier of Raymond, and Lynnanne and Arthur Byron and Rangeley, Maine; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Talbot and Raymond Talbot, both of Manchester, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2001 from 3-6 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 10 a.m. Father Ronald Corriveau will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church, 208 Pleasant St., Epping, N.H. 03042, or the Precious Blood Monestary, 700 Bridge St., Manchester.

Yvonne Bledsoe

ROCHESTER - Yvonne Nancy Bledsoe, 91, of 12 Cover Court died Friday, April 27, 2001 at the St. Ann Home in Dover

Born in Biddeford, Maine, on June 5, 1909, the daughter of Louis and Laura (Thievage) Noel, she had formerly lived in Saco, Maine, and lived in California for 20 years and came to Rochester four years ago.

She was a bookbinder by trade and had worked for bookbinding companies.

The widow of Floyd "Red" Bledsoe, she is survived by three sisters, Valeda Brehaut of Rochester, with whom she has made her home for many years, Alice Healy of Dover and Chantal Stewart of California; a brother, Joseph Noel of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at St. Ann Home, 195 Dover Point Road, with the Rev. Thomas Coover, chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Memorials in her name may be made to the St. Ann Home, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.

Francis Donahue Sr.

SHAPLEIGH, Maine - Francis J. Donahue Sr., 74, of Channel Drive, formerly of North Hampton, N.H., died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Malden, Mass., Nov. 9, 1926, the son of the late Bernard D. and Adeline (MacNeill) Donahue.

Donahue was a graduate of Perley High School in Georgetown, Mass., and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He co-founded New England Homes Inc. in 1961, a manufacturer of modular homes, which is presently located in Greenland, N.H. He retired in the mid-1980s with 25 years of service.

Mr. Donahue was a former communicant of St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach, N.H., and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Georgetown, Mass. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, boating, gardening and woodworking.

He was the husband of the late Doris R. (Roberts) Donahue, who died in 1982 and had resided in Shapleigh the past 15 years, coming from North Hampton, N.H.

Family members include three sons, Francis J. Donahue Jr. of Kennebunk, Michael J. Donahue of North Hampton, N.H., Marc T. Donahue of Georgetown, Mass.; three daughters, Adele M. Polizzotti of Groveland, Mass., Elizabeth J. Brown of Epping, N.H., Cheryl L. Brown of Falmouth; 15 grandchildren; six brothers, Bernard of Lynnfield, Mass., Bradford of South Berwick, Richard of Northwood, N.H., Ronald of Danvers, Mass., Robert of North Conway, N.H., Daniel of North Hampton, N.H.; three sisters, Frances Burrell-Cusack of Westborough, Mass., Marie Mueller of Reading, Mass., Ramona Donahue of Topsfield, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, N.H. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, N.H. on Sunday, April 29, 2001 from 3-5 p.m. and Monday, April 30, 2001 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, N.H. If desire, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Vivia Hawkins

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Vivia Eva Hawkins, 85, of 154 Old Fields Road, died suddenly on Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.

Born in Craftsbury, Vt., on July 13, 1915, the daughter of Victor and Bessie (Colburn) Gilbert, he has lived in this area for many years.

Prior to her retirement, she was an assembler at the meter department of General Electric Co. in Somersworth, N.H.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Somersworth, N.H. where she taught primary grades in the Church School. She was a member of the Relief Society of the church.

She is survived by a daughter, Leola L. Amadon of Lunenburg, Vt.; a son, Gene Hawkins of South Berwick; eight grandchildren; a brother, Frederick Gilbert of Perryville, Md, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Frank W. Hawkins; a son, Arnold F. Hawkins; a brother, Richard Gilbert and a sister, Lois Macray.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, and on Wednesday, May 2, 2001 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Tates Brook Road, Somersworth, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Bishop Samuel S. Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick, Maine.

It is suggested that memorials in her name be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Tates Brook Road, Somersworth, N.H. 03878.

Ovid Taylor

DOVER - Ovid G. Taylor, 78, of 18 Richardson Drive, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born in Dover on April 19, 1923, the son of Bernard S. and Emma (Gagne) Taylor, he has lived here all of his life and was a graduate of the Dover schools.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Rollinsford Post No. 47, American Legion. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 443 and the Dover Elks Lodge No. 184.

Deputy Chief Taylor retired from the Dover Fire Department after 34 years of firefighting and had served as the first training officer for the department.

He was employed by the former Lord & Keenan Oil Co. for 13 years; 7 years for the Duffy Oil Co. and later for the Taylor Oil Co. He was also a self-employed heating and oil burner technician.

Ovid was a member of St. Joseph Church and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Council No. 807 Knights of Columbus and the Rev. Thomas E. Reilly Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline L. (DiCicco) Taylor; two sons, Roger "Joe" Taylor and his wife, Mary, of Dover, Paul Taylor and his wife, Lisa of Rochester; a daughter, Mary Ellen Nehls and her husband Bill of Huntington Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Taylor of Dover; a foster sister, Gladys Gagne of Dover and nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Roger Taylor and Henry Taylor and a sister, Rachel Guibord.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, April 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 150 Central Ave. with the Rev. Michael Taylor as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Patricia Wiley

LOWELL, Mass. - Patricia Ann Wiley, 69, of Lowell and formerly of Kittery, Maine, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 following a long illness at the Sunbridge-Glenwood Care Center.

She was born July 29, 1931, in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of the late Alan and Muriel (Langton) Wiley. She attended local schools and graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine.

Patricia was a trained clerk typist, who left Kittery to pursue her career in the secretarial field. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., for awhile working as clerk typist for the Kansas City Blues minor league baseball team. She then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she served her country proudly in Japan during the Korean War. She was discharged from the service in 1955 as an Airman First Class. She loved participating in the American Legion activities, especially meals that the various legion posts put on at the nursing home.

Over the years, she has suffered from poor health and has been hospitalized and living in nursing care facilities throughout Massachusetts.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Betty Chapman of Kittery; a brother, Alan Wiley Jr. of Warrenton, Mo., plus several nieces, nephews and grandnieces.

Patricia was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Wilson.

Austin Brown Jr.

CORNVILLE, Maine - Austin "Bud" W. Brown Jr., 79, of West Ridge Road , formerly of Oxbow Lane, Dover, N.H., died March 29, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born in Exeter, N.H., he was the son of Austin W. Brown Sr. and Florence (Pickering) Brown. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1939. After high school, he was employed at Exeter Brass Works as a supervisor. In 1946, he made a career transition to General Electric Corp. located in Somersworth, N.H. Within one year with G.E., he quickly progressed to lead foreman and later to production manager until his retirement in 1984.

He was an outdoor enthusiast and life member for the NRA. He especially loved his hunting and fishing trips with his friends and family. But, most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Rainville) Brown; a son, Barry R. Weeks Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Rollinsford, N.H.; a daughter, Marie R. Vermette of Barrington; a son, Richard H. Weeks II and his wife, Lorin, of Dublin, Ohio; a daughter, Therese I. Jones of Barrington; a son, Raymond Brown and his wife, Christine, of Simi Valley, Calif., and a daughter, Francis McNeal of Mountain Berg, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Johnson.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 6, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth, N.H., with Fr. John Finnigan, pastor of St. Mary, Newmarket, N.H., officiating.

Memorials in his name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Roberge Funeral Home, High St., Somersworth, N.H., assisted in the arrangements.

Lorraine Hill

NORTHWOOD - Lorraine M. (Caplette) Hill, 53, of Cove Way, Northwood, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Concord Hospital, Concord, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Rochester on Nov. 24, 1947, a daughter of Wilfred and Maria Caplette.

She was a resident of Northwood for three years, formerly living in Londonderry. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School, Class of 1965. She was employed for many years by Hadco Corp.

She worshipped at the Christian Worship Center in Barrington.

She is survived by her parents of Rochester; her husband, Kenneth H. Hill of Northwood; one daughter, Jennifer Hill of Northwood; six step-children, Judy Nelson, Debbie Lampron, Rhonda Smith, Sandy Janelle, Michael Hill, Robin Osborn; two grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Don (Erika) Claussen of Dover Point; two brothers, Robert and his wife, Cindy Caplette and Michael Caplette, both of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter Tina L. Hill in 1994.

Calling hours will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Christian Worship Center, Route 125, Barrington.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Worship Center.

Private burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, NH Affiliate, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160 or to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Bldg., 360 State Rt. 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

The Peabody Funeral Home, 15 Birch St., Derry, is in charge of the arrangements.

Catherine Kach

MANCHESTER - Catherine M. (Mannion) Kach, 82, of Manchester, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at a local hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in New York City, N.Y., Feb. 22, 1919, she was the daughter of James and Catherine (Mullen) Mannion.

Educated in the New York City public school system, she was the wife of Michael P. Kach who died in 1974.

After World War II, the Kach’s settled in Pelham, N.Y., where they owned and operated Michael’s Flowers for many years. After suffering a stroke in 1976, she moved to southern New Hampshire and lived independently in several communities.

She is survived by her children, James Kach of Madbury, Regina Carman of Center Barnstead, Michael Kach of Carmel, N.Y., Katherine Hatch of Manchester and John F. Kach of Bedford; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Ann O’Brien of Holbrook, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., corner of Harrison St., Manchester. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home at a later date.

A committal service and burial will take place Monday, August 6, at noon at Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, N.Y.

It has been suggested that those who wish may make memorial gifts to New Hampshire Catholic Charities Incorporated, 325 Franklin St., Manchester, NH 03101, in memory of Mrs. Kach.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Goodwin Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Robert Neal

ROCHESTER - Robert Neal, 89, formerly of Barrington, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Rochester Manor.

He was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Dover, the son of Edwin C. and Myra Hanson Neal.

Mr. Neal was employed at Wyndotte Falls until retirement. He loved fishing and hunting.

Surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Memorial calling hour will be held Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

Carol Penney

LEBANON, Maine - Carol J. Penney, 65, of Lebanon, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home on Cedar Lane.

Mrs. Penney was born on Feb. 29, 1936, in Rahway, N.J. She was the daughter of Eugene and Helen Schomburg Ludlum.

Her son, Thomas A. Penney Jr., predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Penney Sr., of Lebanon; a son, David W. and Sarah Penney, of Crested Butte, Colo., and their daughter, Elizabeth; a daughter, Susan C. Penney, of Lebanon; and a brother, Kenneth Ludlum, of Md.

Darrell Perry

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Darrell K. Perry, 41, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Indianapolis.

He was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, Dec. 13, 1959. He was the third son of Edward R. Perry Sr. and Renee C. Goins.

He lived in Portsmouth, N.H., graduating from Portsmouth High School, Class of 1977. He also earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, Class of 1981.

Upon graduating from college, he worked for Kraft Foods, Inc., Boston, Mass., for many years in the marketing department.

Upon returning to Portsmouth, he worked for Measured Process, Inc., in Dover, N.H., and the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission until he moved to Indianapolis to be with his brother, Edward.

He is survived by his mother, Renee C. Goins, and step-father, James B. Goins of Portsmouth; two brothers, David H. Perry and wife, Ellen, of Norfolk, Mass., and Edward R. Perry Jr. and fiancé, Gretchen Stuart, of Indianapolis; his beloved aunt, Sara King; uncles, Nick and Abe; cousins, Doreen Nichols-Holstein, Gus and Teddy Nichols; many other relatives in Virginia; and a multitude of friends surrounding the area and across the United States.

His sunny smile, dimples, good nature, plus a loving heart will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 263 Peverly Hill Rd., Portsmouth, N.H., at 11 a.m. No visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases Office of Communications, Bldg. 31, Room 7A50-MSC2520, Bethesda, MD 20891-2520.
