Robert Orr

PORTSMOUTH - Robert W. Orr, 77, widower Shirley G. (Watt) Orr, of 825 Maplewood Ave., died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at his home.

He was born in Kittery, Maine, on July 10, 1923, the son of the late Joseph T. and Ethel (Lee) Orr and was a graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery.

Orr served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He was employed as a call firefighter for the Portsmouth Fire Department from 1954-56. In 1956, he joined as a regular firefighter, retiring in 1984 after more than 30 years of service. He was also employed part time as a truck driver for Iafolla’s.

He was a charter member of IAFF 1313; past master of St. Andrew’s Lodge 56 F&AM of Portsmouth; past high priest Washington Royal Arch Chapter 3; member of Davenport Council 5 of Royal and Select Masters; member of Dewitt Clinton Commandery 2, Knights Templar.

Survivors include two sons, Dale R. Orr and his wife Bonnie and Gary C. Orr, both of Portsmouth; two grandsons, Justin and Cameron Orr both of Portsmouth; one brother, Joseph Orr of Sapulpa, Okla.; and his special friend, Harriet LaMarca of Eliot, Maine.

He was predeceased by his step-mother, Mae (Hayes) Orr and sister Elizabeth Abrams.

The funeral will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Friends are invited. Visiting hours are at the chapel, Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Masonic services by St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 56 F&AM, Monday at 5:45 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the N.H. Lung Association, 456 Beech St., P.O. Box 1014, Manchester, N.H. 03105-1014. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

John Tigue

John "Jack" C. Tigue, 83, of Sanbornton, died July 27, 2000. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton.

Reuben Filides

ROCHESTER - Reuben Christopher Filides, 26, of 36 Royal Crest Mobile Home Park, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born on March 28, 1974, in Concord, the son of Peter Filides and Gina Carrozza Filides. Reuben had resided in Rochester and previously lived in Somersworth. He was a graduate of Somersworth High School, class of 1994. He most recently worked as a flight scheduler at Business Express at Pease International Tradeport. He enjoyed music and played the guitar in a band.

Members of his family include his mother, of Rochester; his father, of Bow; brother, Jason Filides, of Somersworth; half-brothers, Joshua and Michael Filides, both of Bow; maternal grandfather, Carmine Carrozza of Woodsville; maternal grandmother, Shirley Carrozza-Hyde, of Zolpho Springs, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, Oct. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.

If desired, donations may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, Country Farm Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.

Bolish Stankiewicz

ROCHESTER - Bolish Stankiewicz, 88, of 36 Hancock St., died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Rochester Manor in Rochester after a long period of failing health.

Mr. Stankiewicz was born in Claremont on Dec. 13, 1911, the son of Ignacy and Helen (Gintoff) Stankiewicz and had lived in Rochester since 1942, moving from Exeter. He was predeceased by two brothers, Michelle Stankiewicz and Frank Stankiewicz as well as predeceased by two grandsons, John Kenneth Stankiewicz and Bruce Stankiewicz.

He was a graduate of Newport High School in Newport and was a retired shoe worker, working in the local factories of Dover, Farmington, Rochester and Exeter. After his retirement, he worked for the Thompson Tool Co. in Rochester for five years and worked for a brief period at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a lifelong member of the Rochester lodge of Elks and a member of the Rochester Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving members of the family include his wife of 62 years, Mary Stankiewicz, of Rochester; one son, John and his wife Jan Stankiewicz, of Oneonta, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Jill and her husband Thomas King of Otego, one great-granddaughter, Emily King; one great-grandson, Kobey John King, both of Otego, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, also in Rochester.

John H. Hunt

PITTSFIELD - John H. Hunt, age 44, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in the Concord Hospital.

He was born October 12, 1956, in Sanford, Maine, the son of Kenneth and Elsie Hatch Hunt. He had been employed by the City of Dover.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Simonds Hunt of Pittsfield, four sons, John Hunt, Jr. of Pittsfield, Ryan Hunt of Berwick, Maine, and Joshua Hunt and Nicholas Hunt, both of Rochester, and a daughter, Rebecca Hunt of York, Maine; four brothers, Frank Merchant of South Berwick, Maine, George Merchant of Rochester, Clement Merchant of Middletown and Ralph Merchant of New York and two sisters, Leona Arnold of York, Maine, and Diana Mosher of Sanford, Maine.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., North Berwick, Maine; the funeral will be held on Monday at 1 p.m., Pastor Charles Jepson officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick, Maine.

Jeffrey P. Westcott

PORTSMOUTH - Mr. Jeffrey P. Westcott, 67, of 36 Clinton Street, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord.

He was born in Southampton, England, on July 3, 1933.

Mr. Westcott was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., Class of 1958 and was formerly employed as a teacher at Haverhill High School in Haverhill, Mass.

He was a member of the American Institute of Physics.

There are no known survivors.

Alcide Turgeon

DOVER - Alcide "Babe" Turgeon, 91, formerly of Fourth St., died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center after a period of failing health.

He was born in Somersworth August 26, 1909, the son of Hector and Anna (LaPointe) Turgeon.

Babe was employed at the Kidder Press in Dover, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Moore Business Forms, retiring in 1975.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Church, Dover, where he was a member of the Choir and the Boy Scout Committee for several years.

He enjoyed family, the outdoors, fishing and was a member of the Moore Business Forms Bowling League.

He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Jean Baptiste Society.

His wife Yvonne (Houde) Turgeon died August 22, 1977.

He is survived by his sons, Dr. Ronald P. Turgeon and his wife Karen of St. Louis, Mo., Robert A. Turgeon and his wife Betty and Leo N. Turgeon of Dover, and Marc R. Turgeon and his wife Anne of Florissant, Mo.; his brothers, Edmond "Sonny" Turgeon of Rochester and Dr. Raphael "Ralph" Turgeon of Westbrook, Maine, his sisters, Mrs. Germaine Grondin of Rochester, Madeline (Mrs. John) McCooey and Mrs. Gertrude Bois, both of Dover, and Mrs. Margaret Potvin of Laconia; and eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, Oct. 16, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home at 655 Central Avenue, Dover.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Central Avenue, Dover, with Reverend Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the family lot at St. Charles Cemetery, Dover.

Memorial Donations may be made to: St. Charles Church Building Fund, 577 Central Avenue, Dover, N.H., 03820.

Edward R. Hoefs

PLYMOUTH - Edward R. Hoefs, 42, of 284 School Street, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth.

He was born in Plymouth on July 17, 1958, the son of Donald F. and Grace E. (Bailey) Hoefs.

Mr. Hoefs was a resident of Rumney all of his life and was a 1977 graduate of Plymouth Area High School.

He had been employed by many car dealerships in New Hampshire as an automotive technician and was last employed by Monroe Repairs in Rumney.

His father predeceased him in 1989.

Mr. Hoefs was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by two sons, Richard D. Hoefs and Benjamin E. Hoefs and a daughter, Kristina E. Hoefs, all of Rumney; his mother, Grace, of Rumney; a sister, Marilyn H. Bullek of Plymouth and a brother, Phillip A. Hoefs of Moultonboro; his former wife, Deborah J. Hoefs of Rumney; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours are 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, at Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon Street, Plymouth. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m.; Reverend Brian Fullerton, pastor of the Gateway Alliance Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Cemetery, Rumney.

Helen Butler

MIDDLETON - Helen Butler, 77, of 204 Kings Highway died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Rochester Manor after a long illness.

She was born March 6, 1923, in Middleton, the daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary A. (Tufts) Eastman. She was a lifelong resident of Middleton and a homemaker. Mrs. Butler was a charter member of the Middleton Gospel Chapel and sang in their choir. She was a member of the Middleton Police and Fire Sirens Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Reunion Grange #303 in Union and a volunteer leader for the 4-H Club for 10 years. Her other membership included the Sunrise Snowmobile Club.

The widow of Clifford Roy Butler, who died in 1986, she is survived by three sons, Wayne Butler of New Durham, Kenneth Butler of Barrington, Paul Butler of Farmington, and one daughter, Louise Butler of Strafford; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit Monday, Oct. 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in the Middleton Gospel Chapel in Middleton, with Reverend Steve Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Farmington.

Ida F. Snogren

PLYMOUTH - Ida F. Snogren, 94, formerly of Prince Haven, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith.

She was born in Mars Hill, Maine, on August 26, 1906, the daughter of Allen and Jane (Green) Smith.

Mrs. Snogren had been a resident of Plymouth for eight years; prior to that, she lived most of her married life in Michigan and retired to Florida.

She was the owner and operator of The Elite Shop that sold women’s apparel in Bay City, Mich. In her earlier years, she taught piano and violin.

Mrs. Snogren was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence O. Snogren.

She is survived by two sons, Dorraine S. Snogren of Wentworth and Richard C. Snogren of Littleton, Colo., and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Sunday, Oct. 15, at Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon Street, Plymouth. The funeral service will be held in the Plymouth United Methodist Church, Highland Street, Plymouth, on Monday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m.; the Reverend Margaret Bickford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in Michigan.

Ronald J. Christie
DOVERRonald J. Christie, 58, of Central Towers, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church at a time to be announced. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery, Dover Point.

Carrie Cormier

MILTON - Carrie Ann Cormier, 19, died Friday, April 13, 2001 after injuries sustained in a car accident.

Born April 28, 1981 in Rochester, she was the daughter of Ronald and Kristine (Plummer) Cormier.

Carrie has lived in Milton for the past six months after moving from Rochester where she lived most her life. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School. She worked as a waitress at the Asia Restaurant in Newington. She enjoyed art, singing, going to concerts and enjoyed children.

Members of her family include her parents, Ronald and Kristine Cormier of Rochester; a sister, Jennifer Cormier of Dover and her fiancé Chad Hodgdon; her paternal grandparents, Rene and Bernice Cormier of Gonic; her maternal grandmother, Alice Plummer of Ridgefield, Conn.; her boyfriend, Corey Robb of Milton; aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be sadly missed by the many friends she had.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane society, County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820 or to My Friends Place, 368 Washington St., Dover, NH 03820.

Calling hours will be Monday 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Church Congregational, South Main St., Rochester.

Burial will be in the Spring at the Gonic Cemetery, Flag Road, Gonic.

Miller J. Jamrog
MERRIMACK Miller J. Jamrog, 56, of 21 Bean Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in Poland after a sudden illness. Mr. Jamrog was born in Manchester on April 27, 1944, a son of Anna B. (Szopa) Jamrog of Manchester and the late Mitchell J. Jamrog.

Mr. Jamrog was a graduate of Boston University with a masters in music, and had a post-graduate degree. Mr. Jamrog was a freelance percussionist and was active in several areas of music. He was a music educator for Hudson, Mass., for over 20 years, and also for Manchester area public schools.

He was president of Snyder Productions Inc. in Bedford. Mr. Jamrog was a percussionist for the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, and also a private music instructor.

He served in the National Guard, and was a member of the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his wife, members of his family include his wife, Nancy (Noch) Jamrog of Merrimack; one son and daughter-in-law, Miller D. and Vanessa Jamrog of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; one daughter, Viola E. Jamrog of Nashua; and one brother, Daniel J. Jamrog of New Boston.

The George R. Rivet Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Episcopal Burial Office and Eastertide Eucharist with Dixieland Band Music will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday , April 28, in St. John Neumann Church, Route 101A, Merrimack. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1 Tremont St., Concord, NH 03301 or to Faith Episcopal Church, PO Box 422, Merrimack, NH; 03054, also a memorial scholarship will be established at a later date.

John F. Wilson

LACONIA John F. Wilson, 75, formerly of 54 Spring Street, Laconia, died on Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the New Hampshire Veterans’ Home.

Mr. Wilson was born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late John D. and Helen L. (Strickland) Wilson. He was a past post commander of VFW post 1670 in Laconia and a former member of the Elks and Moose Lodges in Laconia. He retired from Gerity Lumber in Meredith in 1980 where he was employed as a salesman.

Family members include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lynn Darnell of Strafford; one grandson, Al Davis IV and four grandchildren, all of Lake Placid, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife in December 1992, Marie Elizabeth "Betty" (Roche) Wilson.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
