Donald LaRose

DOVER - Donald W. LaRose, 80, of 66 Hampshire Circle, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a long illness.

Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Middlebury Vt., he was the son of George and Margaret (Whitman) LaRose.

He had lived in Dover for the past 22 years. He attended grade school in Middlebury. He was formerly employed at the Old Mill Furniture Company in Woodsville and later for Waste Management in Woodsville.

He spent many summers traveling with the Granite State Shows carnival as a merry-go-round operator and any other duties he was asked of. He loved the carnival life and traveling to beautiful parts of New England, even when he was ill later on in life. He loved his children even though he didn’t hear or see them for many years. He was a patient at the White Rive Junction, Vt., and Manchester, VA hospitals, where he had made many friends. He enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes. He was also a member of the American Legion in Woodsville.

Members of his family include his special friend, Sandra Frost with whom he lived with for 23 years; his stepchildren, Cindy, Betty, Penny, Albert, Mary and Donna Coffin, Sandi, Rick and David Frost, Paula Smith, Donna Kennedy and Daniel Frost; many stepgrandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Alberta (Coffin) LaRose; stepsons, Steven and Jamie Frost and his stepfather, Harry Renner.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Inc, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. 03867.

Stuart Mozeleski

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Stuart Mozeleski, 64, of Young Street, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2004, at home following a long battle with cancer.

Born in Neptune, N.J., on Dec. 27, 1939, he was the son of Frank S. and J. Ruth (Mulholland) Mozeleski.

He was a graduate of Ridgewood High School in New Jersey and Yale University. He spent eight years in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator.

He graduated from Maine Law School and passed the bar in 1975. He practiced law in Kittery for many years and had lived most of his life in Maine.

He was an avid football fan. He loved to cook and as an accomplished chef, he compiled a personal cookbook that is enjoyed by his family.

With a lifetime passion for golf, he was a longtime member of the York Golf Club. In the mid-70’s, he won the Maine State Golf Tournament. He returned annually to Yale in New Haven, Conn., to play at one of his favorite courses.

He is survived by his wife of six years, Ree (Schuler) Mozeleski; two daughters, Amber Martin Mozeleski of Washington, and Kimberly Mozeleski Liling of New Jersey and their husbands, Greg Martin and Tom Liling; one sister, Dorothy from Pennsylvania, with her husband, Bill Sweet.

Family also includes six grandchildren and two nephews; as well as a stepdaughter, Lisa LaBelle of Vermont and a stepson, Tom Williams of Massachusetts and five stepgrandchildren.

There will be no funeral service, but a Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. at First Parish Federated Church, Main & Academy Streets in South Berwick, Maine with the Rev. Donna Lee Muise, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, 54 Atlantic Place, South Portland, ME 04106.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, Maine.

Clark Steere

GONIC - Clark W. Steere, 80, of 146 Gear Road, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at his son’s home in Wakefield.

Born Nov. 10, 1924, in East Dorset, Vt., he was the son of Merrill B. and Arabella (Lord) Steere.

He formerly lived on Cushing Road in Dover and for the past 20 years, he was a resident of Gonic. He was a plumber employed by Burns G. Hutchins Co. of Dover for 10 years, Washburn Plumbing and Heating of Portsmouth for 10 years and was an member of Local 131 of Manchester for 40 years.

He was of the Episcopal faith.

Family members include his wife of 57 years, Ruth L. (Lathrop) Steere of Gonic; two sons, Clark D. Steere and his wife, Maryann, of Milton, Shawn M. Steere and his wife, Kelly, of Wakefield; one daughter, Pamela D. LaBrecque of Gonic; two sisters, Eunice Cahill of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Florence Brault of Cadyville, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, T.W. Blair of Rochester; sister-in-law, Julia Cribby of Bath, Maine; an aunt, Gertrude Fish of Gordonville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Kristen Jones of Marborough, Md., Katherine Steere of Milton, Sara LaBrecque of Gonic, Melissa Steere, Stephanie Steere and Samantha Steere all of Wakefield; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Steere; and a sister, Miriam Barber.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Michael Bradley, pastor of St. George’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.

Winifred Turner

FARMINGTON - Winifred A. Turner, 94, formerly of Berry Court in Farmington, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at SunBridge Care in Wolfeboro where she was affectionately known as "Winny."

Born Jan. 14, 1910, and raised in Farmington, she was the daughter of John and Ruby (Avery) Pulsifer. She was a graduate of Farmington High School where she met her late husband, Charles F. Turner, a lawyer and Army veteran of World War II. She was a graduate of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She returned to Farmington in 1975 to live in the Berry Court house where she was born, the house built in 1869 by her grandfather, Frank Avery, a decorated Civil War veteran. She previously resided in Lincoln, Mass., and the Boston area with her husband and son.

A retired registered nurse, she was a former member of the Farmington Historical Society. She enjoyed flower gardening and needlework, collected Madame Alexander porcelain dolls, and was a lifelong avid reader.

The widow of the late Charles F. Turner, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Turner and Cherie Fortis; a grandson, Avery Ryder Turner of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Joan Pulsifer of Farmington; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Pulsifer) and Robert Tilton, and devoted friend and neighbor, Doris Young of Farmington.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH 03835.

Charles Vickers

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Charles S. "Vic" Vickers, 67, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Cox Medical Center, South.

He was born April 24, 1937, in Farmington, N.H., to Charles S. Vickers, Jr. and Delia Beaulieu Vickers. He graduated from Farmington High School and joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as an air traffic controller in Biloxi, Miss.; Morocco, Africa; and Wichita, Kan.

Prior to his retirement two years ago, he was the owner and operator of As You Like It Catering in Springfield, where he delighted in the preparation, presentation and service of his creations to his customers. He made many long-lasting friendships with his clients and associates and valued their respect. He was a member of the food service industry in the Springfield area for at least 28 years. After retirement, when the weather was nice, he was ready to play golf or go fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Vickers, Jr. and father-in-law, Walter Woolery. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sharon; his mother, Delia Vickers of Farmington, and his mother-in-law, Orlena Woolery of Rogersville, Mo. Also surviving are daughters, Kelly Ann Vickers, Dallas, Texas, Jami Flanigan and husband, Jeff, Sachse, Texas, and Kimberly Borders and husband, Rob, Yorktown, Va.

He leaves behind a sister, Ruth Pratt and husband, Don, Englewood, Fla.; and brother, Kerry Vickers, Charleston, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Janice Pitts, Springfield, and Kathy Seaver, Farmington. He also leaves the "lights of his life", his five grandchildren, whom he adored, Maci, Lilli and Jack Flanigan and Katy and Evan Borders. He is also survived by a special aunt, Dolly French, Laconia, N.H., and a host of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, Mo., with Father Fergus, officiating. Visitation will be between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. just prior to services. Burial will follow in Rivermont Memorial Gardens.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Farmington, N.H. on Friday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the loving and compassionate care given to Vic and family members by the nurses and staff of Cox Medical Center South during the final days of his life.

Memorial service set this afternoon for Joseph Sawtelle

PORTSMOUTH - A memorial service will be held today at Portsmouth High School auditorium for Joseph G. Sawtelle Jr., 71, of New Castle, who died May 2, 2000.

Sawtelle was an indomitable, positive and happy spirit; his family would welcome the company and the comfort of his friends and associates at the memorial celebration from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception at Yoken’s from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A church service of thanksgiving for the life of this remarkable, kind and generous man will be held at New Castle Congregational Church on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a light lunch will follow.

Logistics for parking and attendance are available by calling 436-7943.

To Sawtelle, donations to the construction of the Port of Portsmouth Maritime Museum would be the most "beautiful flowers" of all.

Memorial Mass set Saturday for Robert Hinchey, former Dover attorney

DOVER - A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, at Saint Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave., Dover, for Robert E. Hinchey, who died April 28, 2000, in Deltona, Fla. The Rev. Daniel St. Laurent will be the celebrant.

Mr. Hinchey was a senior partner with the law firm of Burns, Bryant, Hinchey, Cox & Rockfeller, retiring in 1982. While practicing law he served on the advisory committee to the New Hampshire Supreme Court on professional legal ethics, chairman; negligence, compensation and insurance law committee (New Hampshire Bar), chairman; advanced legal education committee (New Hampshire Bar); New Hampshire Bar Association board of governors, president; Strafford County Bar Association; and as a regular master in the New Hampshire Superior Court.

In January 2000, Mr. Hinchey was recognized for 50 years of distinguished service to the New Hampshire Bar Association.

He served on the board of directors of Federal Savings Bank in Dover from 1962 to 1998.

Family members include his wife of 42 years, Sally (Burns) Hinchey; a daughter, Sue Ellen Duffy, Merrimack.; three sons, Brian C. of Burlington, Conn., Kevin M. of Somersworth, and Stephen M. of Meredith; eight grandchildren; and a brother, James P. Hinchey of Stratham.

Ruth Jones

DOVER - Ruth Jones, formerly of 10 Spring St., Dover, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at Riverside Rest Home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Wiggin -Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Joan Lehoux

SANFORD, Maine - Joan E. Lehoux, 66, of Sanford died April 15, 2000 at the Newton Center in Sanford.

Ms. Lehoux was born Dec. 10, 1933 in Buffalo, N.Y. She was the daughter of Ermin and Veronica (Konopa) Gradwohl. It was there that she attended school.

She moved to Maine in 1956 and maintained the family estate. In 1970 she designed and built the Pinewood Mobile Home Court in Sanford. For the next 17 years she would operate and maintain the facility, stressing on keeping it a very community and family oriented place. Ms. Lehoux retired in 1987.

Mrs. Lehoux was said by her family to have a dynamic personality. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her cat Friskie. In her spare time she would tend to her flower garden, or feed the birds. Mrs. Lehoux was a nature lover and would always care for any animal in need.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Tippett of Sanford; two sons, David of Sanford and Donald of Arizona; three sisters, Rita Sweeney of Pennsylvania, Marcia Trebb and Therese Chaplin of New York, as well as a brother, Richard Gradwohl of New York. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Daniel, Dana and Issac.

John Martel

BERWICK, Maine - John Thomas "J.T. Roaddog" Martel, 41, of 2E Bridge Street died Friday, May 5, 2000 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1959, in Dover, he was the son of John Sissom and Ruth (Brown) Martel.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was employed in stocking and loading with Saunders Fruit Company warehouse for the past two years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Somersworth; was an avid fisherman and loved camping and the outdoors. He enjoyed family and friends.

Survivors include his mother of Somersworth; his girlfriend, Darlene Irons of Somersworth; two brothers, Robert Martel Jr. and Richard Martel of Portland, Maine; three sisters, Sheila Hammond of Somersworth, Sharon Latture of Dover and Marlene Reynolds of Virginia; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Norman Mello Sr.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Norman G. Mello Sr., 62, of 30 Junction Road died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at his home.

Born in Fall River, Mass., June 3, 1937, he was the son of Joseph and Virginia (Rezendes) Mello. Mr. Mello served in the U.S. Army. He was a resident of South Berwick for 25 years and had previously resided in Mansfield, Ohio and Bristol, R.I.

Mr. Mello was a floor covering installer and was self-employed formerly doing business as Mello and Sons Floor Covering.

In addition, he was employed part time by South Berwick Police Department and Rollinsford Police Department. He was a member of the Blue Knights, a motorcycle club for police officers.

He was a member of the South Berwick Fire Department and had previously been a member of F&AM, St. John’s Lodge of South Berwick.

Family members include two sons, Norman G. Mello Jr. of South Berwick and Kevin M. Mello of Dover, N.H.; two daughters, Brenda J. Fontaine of North Kingston, R.I. and Jessica L. Henry of Wetherfield, Conn.; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Mello.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick. Cremation will follow calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to South Berwick Teen Center, P.O. Box 313, South Berwick, ME 03908.

Adrienne Robinson

ROCHESTER - Adrienne Robinson of 119 Chamberlain St. died Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

William Rusine

EXETER - William Joseph Rusine, 79, of Arbor Street died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born March 24, 1921, in Exeter, he was the son of William and Bernice (Kopka) Rusine. He was a native and lifelong resident of Exeter.

Mr. Rusine worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for five years after the war. He worked many years for the Exeter school system as a custodian.

He was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 32 of Exeter.

Mr. Rusine was a communicant of St. Michael Church.

He was a member of the AARP.

His wife, Marceline Rusine, died April 26.

The family includes a grandson, Jonathan Booth of Derry; a great-grandson; two sisters, Judy Cronshaw of Newfields and Mary Standish of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Exeter.

A double committal service for William and Marceline will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Exeter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, is handling arrangements.

Memorial Mass for Estelle Stonebraker

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Charles Street, Rochester, N.H., for Estelle Stonebraker, 89, who died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 in St. Augustine. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, West Lebanon, Maine, following the services.
