Sister Diana Dumais, C.S.C.

MANCHESTER - Sister Diana Dumais, C.S.C. (Sr. Suzanne of Rome), 88, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester, died June 3, 2004, at the Holy Cross Health Center.

Born in Somers-worth, N.H., Jan. 24, 1916, she was the daughter of Thomas and Anaisse (Desjardins) Dumais.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1941 and made her final profession in 1948. She served the Congregation for 63 years.

She obtained her BA from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH.

She taught parochial elementary school for 36 years in Manchester and Rollinsford. She retired to West Franklin, N.H. in 1980 and then to St. George Manor in 1998.

Family members include a nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of St. George Manor. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Holy Cross Development Office, 377 Island Pond Road, Manchester, NH 03109.

Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.

John Freudenberger

ROCHESTER - John G. Freudenberger, 72, of Springfield Estates, Rochester, died Wednesday, June 3, 2004, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 3, 1931, the son of George and Mary (Madaio) Freudenberger.

John and his wife, Leah, moved from the New York area to Dover in 1990 and lived there until 1998 and had resided in Rochester for the past five years. He was a communicant of St. Charles Church, Dover.

He enjoyed fishing and baseball and also enjoyed the beach.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After the service, he became a supervisor for Capital Records and also for Damon/IEC. He then became a part of the security staff for PAN AM at the Pease International Tradeport, where he retired.

Family members include his wife, Leah (Verdi) Freudenberger; two sons, John Freudenberger of Wells, Maine, and Vincent and his wife, Catherine Freudenberger, of Holliston, Mass.; one daughter, Marie Freudenberger Walsh of Rochester; and three grandchildren, William J. Walsh of Rochester, and Harrison and Hannah Rose Freudenberger, both of Holliston, Mass.

He was predeceased by his brother, George Freudenberger.

Family and friends are invited to call Friday, June 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., in Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday June 5 at 12 p.m. at St. Charles Church in Dover with Father Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in John’s name to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Lorraine Frick

DURHAM - Lorraine H. Frick, 82, of Durham, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2004, at her home after a prolonged illness.

She was born Lorraine Margaret Hammerstrom, on Aug. 7, 1921, in West Hartford, Conn.

She attended the University of Connecticut, receiving her bachelor of arts in history in 1943. During World War II, she worked for American Airlines at Bradley Field in Hartford. After the war, she and her college sweetheart, George Frick, were married on May 19, 1945, shortly thereafter moved to Durham.

She is survived by George, her husband of 59 years; and her children, Linda Rhines of Wells, Maine, Susan Baumgartner of Richmond, Calif., and Paul Frick of Nottingham.

In addition to being an accomplished singer, she enjoyed playing the piano, ice skating, sewing, swimming and watching the wildlife in the backyard.

Private services will held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wentworth Homecare and Hospice, 113 Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, N.H., 03820.

Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee, N.H.

Edgar MacDougall

ROCHESTER - Edgar S. MacDougall, 76, of Westwind Estates, died June 2, 2004, at his home in Rochester.

Born Sept. 17, 1927, in Saugus, Mass., he was the son of Edgar H. and Ruth (Pierson) MacDougall. He lived in Newmarket for 47 years before moving to Rochester in 1988.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a stitcher at Sam Smith Shoe in Newmarket and at Exeter Footwear.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Ann (Bonenfant) MacDougall in 1981; a daughter, Dianne Hoyt in 1996; and two sisters, Audrey Martin and Ruth Stilson.

He is survived by a son, Edgar S. MacDougall Jr. of Rochester; a daughter, Lori A. MacDougall of Stone Mountain, Ga.; his longtime companion of over 20 years, Kathryn Richardson of Rochester; a brother, Edward MacDougall of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Doris Jolly of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place and burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501 Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Victoria Miller

DOVER - Victoria B. Miller, 85, past away quietly in her sleep on June 3, 2004, at her home following a long period of declining health. She will sadly be missed by her best friend, traveling buddy, shopping buddy, loving and devoted daughter.

She was born in Newmarket on Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 o’clock in the morning as the Armistice was being signed, for this reason she was named Victoria. She was very proud of this.

She was the daughter of Joseph Bedard and Roseanna (Cote) Bedard. She grew up in Durham and attended school in Newmarket until the third grade when she had to quit and help with the family until she went to work at Pacific Mills in Dover. Over the years she worked at Baxter & Sawyer Woolen Mills and Mahan Plush in Rollinsford. After moving to Dover in 1953, she worked at United Tannery until 1966. She moved to Manchester along with her husband, George, to own and operate the Friendly Corner Store and Gas Pumps on Brown Avenue until 1981, where she retired and moved to New Durham for 15 years. She later moved to Dover in 1991 with her daughter.

She enjoyed gardening, her dogs, cats, recently her pet rabbit Shadow, watching and listening to the birds. She loved to meet and talk with people. She was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter, Carol, and her grandchildren. She was also a member of St. Charles Church in Dover.

She was predeceased by her husband, George R. Miller in 1989; her parents, Joseph and Roseanna Bedard; her brothers, Armenie (Tom) Omer, and Henrie Bedard; her sisters, Marie Anna Boucher, Florida Cote, Lea Chenard and Auora Caron.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Carol Harriman of Dover; one brother, Leo Bedard of Durham; two sisters, Alice Soucy of Dover, Eva Bedard of Durham; three loving grandchildren, Suzanne Harriman of Atlanta, Ga., Renee Roppolo and her husband, Chris, of Irmo, S.C., and Stephen Harriman of Durham; five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Brian Roppolo of Irmo, Ryan, Daniel and Jamie Harriman of Waltham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wish to thank the nurses, aides, and volunteers of Hospice, Wentworth Homecare, Homemakers Day Out Program of Strafford County for taking such good care of her.

Friends may call Sunday, June 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Dover. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Seacoast Hospice or Homemakers of Strafford County.

Charlotte Niles

KITTERY, Maine - Charlotte A. Niles, 83, of Shapleigh Road in Kittery, died on June 1, 2004, at York Hospital.

Born in Kittery Point on Nov. 30, 1920, she attended local schools graduating from R.W. Traip Academy with the Class of 1938, as class valedictorian and secretary.

In 1940, she met and married her loving husband, Ralph D. Dickerman, and they made their home in Kittery Point until his death in 1958. She later met and in 1961, married her husband, Norman N. Niles. They made their home in Kittery together until his death in 1998.

She enjoyed handiwork and was especially skilled at crocheting. Many of her family members were the beneficiaries of her skill, enjoying quilts and afghans for many happy occasions.

She was a member of the First Christian Church at Kittery Point for many years.

She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, and for her special fondness for her grand and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte and her husband, Raymond Coury, of York, Maine and Carol and her husband, Doug Kenyon, of Chelmsford, Mass.; her grandchildren, Dale Avery, Mark Avery, Dana Avery, Barbara Blue, Phil DeSoto, Doug Kenyon III, and Carey Ducharme; and her great-grand children Mark, Jennifer, Jeffery and Lindsay Avery, Marianna and Brianna DeSoto and Tyler, Paxton and Chloe Ducharme; as well as her sister, Elsie May O’Brien; and a half-brother, Edward Storer of York. She is also survived by her aunt, Hannah McCloud, of Kittery Point. She was predeceased by an uncle with whom she was very close, Edward McCloud.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 13 at 1 p.m. at the Baptist Cemetery in Kittery Point, with the Rev. Brad Hirst officiating. Family flowers only, donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas,
Texas 75231-4596 or the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Roland Ruel

Born July 11, 1937, in Dover, N.H., he was the son of the Paul J. and Alice (Forcier) Ruel.

He served in the Navy. He had lived in New Durham for the past seven years after moving from Gonic, N.H., where had lived for 40 years. He was a retired co-owner of Ruel Fuels of Rochester. He enjoyed gardening and loving dog Henry.

Members of his family include his two sons, Roland G. Ruel and his wife, Colleen, of Oakham, and Kevin E. Ruel and his wife, Ann, of New Durham; three brothers, Paul R. Ruel and George Ruel, both of Dover, and Norman Ruel of Berwick, Maine; two sisters, Doris Chase and her husband, Steve Jr., of Nottingham, and Lorraine Bennett of Tennessee; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Ruel and his loving wife, Annette M. (Bisson) Ruel.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Charles Cemetery, Dover, N.H.

Lillian Trottier

NEWMARKET - Lillian O. Trottier, 77, of Elm Street, died June 4, 200 at Kirkwood Corners, Lee.

Born Aug. 24, 1926 in Exeter, she was the daughter of Henry L. and Lydia (Perrault) Trottier. She had lived in Newmarket for many years.

She was a graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy, Hudson, Class of 1944.

For 13 years, she worked at the Newmarket National Bank. In 1958 she went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and was employed in the medical and supply departments. At the time of her retirement in 1987, she was supervisor of Shop Store Records in Supply.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She loved to crochet and donated many afghans to the Channel 11 Auction.

She also loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens, sharing their produce with her many friends.

Survivors include several cousins.

At the request of Lillian there will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Main Street, Newmarket.

Private Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

The Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket, is assisting with arrangements.

Mary Wilcox

ROCHESTER - Mary A. Wilcox, 89, of 35 Skyline Drive, died Tuesday, June 1, 20004, peacefully at her home.

She was born in Sanford, Maine, on June 10, 1914, the daughter of Ernest and Evangeline (Doiron) Duprey. Prior to moving to this area about 10 years ago, she had lived in both Lynn, Mass. and Sanford, Maine.

She was a homemaker her entire lifetime. She leaves many friends and family members, whom she loved dearly. She’ll be sadly missed by all.

Survivors include a daughter, Margarette McLaughlin; a son, Carl Ericson; a grandson, Kenneth Courtemanche of Foster, R.I. and his son, Brad A Courtemanche; a nephew and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Pope and their son, of Mathew, N.C. and six grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

There are no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford, Maine.

Norman Adams
CONCORD - Norman S. Adams, 50, died recently in Romania.

He was born in Rochester, N.H., the son of Sheldon E. and Jeanne (Shorey) Adams.

He was a 1972 graduate of Pinkerton Academy where he was a state champion in track and field.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was a field service engineer for G-M Enterprises.

He coached in the Concord American Little League and took an all star team to Cooperstown, N.Y. to compete in a national tournament. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing poker with his sons and their friends. He loved any excuse to have a barbecue.

He is survived by his wife, Connie (Farmer) Adams of Concord; two sons, Joshua Adams and Evan Adams, both of Concord; his mother of Derry; one sister, Janet Grieco of South Portland, Maine; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main St., Concord.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

Robert Frank

DOVER - Robert Berlin Frank, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center, after a period of failing health.

He was born March 16, 1916, in Clay City, Illinois, to Sam and Mary (Montgomery) Frank, the second of 12 children. He was a retired farmer and welder, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Sue Hale and husband, Paul, of Bettendorf, Iowa; one son, Donald Frank and wife, Nancy, of Sanbornville; sisters, Blanche, Deanne, Mary Lou and Faye of Illinois, and Catherine of California; grandchildren, Kelly Pinette of Belmont, Marlene Kaler of Rochester, Joe Frank of Plymouth, Charlene Esdale of Collegeville, Pa., and Sandy, Eddy and Tina of Alaska; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Florence (Pridemore), his sons, David and John, and three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be private, and burial will be in Clay City, Illinois. Friends may make memorial donations to the Historic Sailor Springs Foundation, P.O. Box 2, Sailor Springs, IL 62879.
