Virginia D. Priest
Virginia D. Priest (Vessella), 85, of Greenbank, died Wednesday, June 13 [2001], at Atlantic City Hospital/Mainland Division.
Born in Greenbank, Priest was a lifelong resident. She was the retired owner and operator of Priest Country Store in Greenbank until 1975. She was a past president of Greenbank Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Aux. and a member of the Egg Harbor Chapter of Deborah.
Surviving her are: her husband of 68 years, Walter; two sons, Walter Priest Jr. and his wife Catherine, of Mullica Twp., and Raymond Priest and his wife Sharon, of Knoxville, Tenn.; six daughters, Anna Stevenson, of Mullica Twp., Virginia Golini and her husband Joseph, of Elwood, Dorothy Adams, of Mays Landing, Julia Carabin and her husband Joseph, of Elm, Louise Imperatore and her husband Michael, of Mullica Twp., Joyce Marshall and her husband Tom, of Greenbank; grandmother of 34; and 45 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Hammonton.
Burial followed at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton.
Donations may be made to Greenbank Rescue Squad, 2424 Rt. 563, Greenbank, NJ 08215.
Arrangements were made by the Marinella Funeral Home.

Gilbert Borzone
Gilbert Borzone, 70, of the Elm section of Winslow Twp., died Saturday, June 16 [2001], at Atlantic City Medical Center in Pomona.
Born in Chesilhurst, Borzone lived in Elm most of his life. He was a retired truck driver for UPS of Pleasantville. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated his own private plane from the Hammonton Municipal Airport.
Surviving him are: his wife, Angie (Grasso); a daughter, Donna Alotto and her husband Pete, of Hammonton; three brothers, Bruno Borzone, of Berlin, Ernie Borzone, of Mickleton, NJ, and Eugene Borzone, of Atco; and he was the loving grandfather of Michael and Joseph Domenico.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on June 20, at St. Joseph's Church.
Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hammonton.
Donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 226 French St., Hammonton, NJ 08037.
Arrangements were made by the Marinella Funeral Home.

Eileen P. Murphy
Eileen P. Murphy, 80, of Hammonton, passed away on Thursday, June 14 [2001], at the Pitman Manor in Pitman.
Born in Philadelphia, Murphy was a resident of Hammonton for more than 60 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Choir of Hammonton. She was also a member of the Daughters of America of Minotola, and the Mother's Club of Hammonton. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She retired in 1988 as a machine operator at the South Jersey Laundry Co. in Hammonton after 32 years.
Murphy was the wife of the late David N. Murphy.
Surviving her are: one daughter, Jacqueline Hunter and her husband Lewis, of Thorofare, NJ; one son, Joseph A. Murphy and his wife JoAnn, of Simpsonville, Ken.; four grandchildren, Kim, Lewis Jr. and his wife Lisa Hunter, and Joseph and Elizabeth Murphy; three great-grandchildren, Lewis III, Jonathan and Matthew Hunter; a sister-in-law, Ruth Lounsberry, of Blue Anchor; and nephews John, Robert and David Lounsberry.
Relatives and friends attended funeral services on Monday, June 18 at the Landolfi Funeral Home in Hammonton.
Internment followed at the Winslow Methodist Church Cemetery in Winslow.
Arrangements were made by the Landolfi Funeral Home.

Henry Straus
Henry (Harry) R. Straus, 61, of the Elwood section of Mullica Twp., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, July 15 [2001], at Pennsylvania Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, Straus lived in Winslow Twp. and Hammonton before moving to Elwood in 1986. He was the co-owner of Mary's Farm Market in Elwood with his wife Mary for more than 14 years. He was a member of the Democratic Club of Mullica Twp. and served on the Township Committee, the Zoning Board and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a past member of the Hammonton Democratic Club. He was past president of Wheaton's Plastics Union and the past vice-president of the AFL-CIO of Ancora State Hospital. He was a former member of the Winslow Twp. fire and rescue squad and the Hammonton Moose Lodge. He also owned Harry and Dave's Pet Store in Hammonton.
Straus was predeceased by his wife, Mary A. (Hannan), his brother, John Straus, and his granddaughter, Bethany Macri.
Surviving him are: three sons, Henry J. Straus, of Elwood, Michael J. Straus and his partner Jeff Panco, of Elwood, and John E. and his wife Dawn Straus, of Las Vegas; five daughters, MaryAnn and her husband Charles DeStefano, of Hammonton, Terry and her husband Howard Macri, of Hammonton, Trudy Straus, of Hammonton, Judy and her husband David Friedley, of Hammonton, and Susan Straus, of Elwood; five brothers James Straus, of Deptford, Robert Straus, of Pitman, Thomas Straus, of Clayton, Steven Straus, of Clayton, and Richard Straus, of Absecon; two sisters, Gertrude Capone, of Pitman, and Margaret Rodgers of Glassboro; and he was the loving grandfather of 14, Pat, Dante and Matthew DeStefano, Melissa, Ashley, Jason, Emily Macri; Sarah and Michelle Tomasella, Amanda and John Straus III, Teresa, Hailey and Cassie Friedley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 19, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church on S. Egg Harbor Road in Hammonton. Viewing is Wednesday evening, July 18, after 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 19, after 8:30 a.m., at the Marinella Funeral Home at 102 N. Third St. in Hammonton.
Burial will follow at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hammonton.
Flowers are being provided by the Flower Shoppe at Mary's.
Donations may be made to the Harry and Mary Straus Music and Theater Scholarship Fund, c/o MaryAnn DeStefano, 423 N. Second St., Hammonton, NJ 08037.

Carmella Esposito
Carmella Esposito, 59, of Hammonton, died on Saturday, July 7 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in Elizabeth, Esposito lived in Vineland for 25 years, Mays Landing for seven years, and Hammonton for the last three months.
Surviving her are: two sisters, Frances Mastrogiacomo, of Kenilworth, NJ, and Mary Roupenian, of Springfield, NJ.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 12, at St. Anthony's Church in Hammonton.
Burial followed at Greenmount Cemetery in Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by the Marinella Funeral Home.

Angelina J. Macrie
Angelina J. (nee Sanfilippo) Macrie, 72, of Hammonton, died on Monday, July 9 [2001], at Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton.
Born in Hammonton, Macrie worked as a waitress at the local "Dairy Lunch". She later worked as a seamstress at Hammonton Park Clothes. She moved to South Miami Heights, Fla., where she lived for 30 years before retiring from the French Benzel Dry Cleaners in Perrine, Fla. Macrie moved back to Hammonton and was married to the late Anthony "City" Macrie. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Her warmth and tenderness will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.
Surviving her are: her sons, Paul Buckley and his wife RoseMarie, of Indian Mills, and Bruce Archer, of Homestead, Fla.; one sister, Phyllis Tomasello, of Hammonton; one brother, Emanuel Sanfilippo and his wife Carol, of Hammonton; two granddaughters, Jacqueline Archer, of Hammonton, and Dawn Archer, of Hammonton; one great-grandson, John Provenzano, of Hammonton; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 14, at St. Joseph's RC Church. Burial followed at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Carnesale Funeral Home.

Obid Rusell Rea
Obid Russell (Russ) Rea , 88, died Monday, July 30 [2001], in southeastern Pennsylvania where he had lived, with his son and daughter-in-law, for the past three-and-a-half years.
Born July 16, 1913, in Maywood, Illinois, Rea lived most of his adult life in Elgin, Ill. He was preceded in death by Alice [Benn], his beloved wife of more than 50 years. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Rea, her husband Michael Hozik and their children, John Trindle and Melissa Hozik; by his son Michael Rea and Michael's son Joshua; and by his dearest friend, Mary O'Connell. He is also survived by his sisters, Iola Caldwell, of San Jose, Calif., and Lorraine Meuser and her husband Robert, of Union, Ill., and by their extended families.
Rea spent his childhood in a variety of small towns in northern Ill. and southern and central Wisconsin. In many cases, the communities were at the edge of old-growth forest. He graduated from high school in Fond du Lac, Wis. In his teens and early 20s, Rea worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps planting replacement trees in areas of Wis. where clear-cutting had occurred. Rea worked as an Industrial Electrician until his retirement in 1983, serving in that capacity at the Elgin Foundry, Geneva Steel Products, and General Mills [West Chicago]. Rea lived for several years in Hammonton, where he was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Rea was a life-long learner with wide-ranging interests. He loved music; singing in the choir of 'old' Epworth Church in Elgin, supporting the Elgin Symphony, and attending performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra until about four years ago. He also enjoyed live theater, having worked behind the scenes in community theater in Elgin. He attended plays at regional theaters in Fontana, Wis., and throughout the Elgin area, as well as in Boston. He was a season ticket holder for several years in the mid-1990s at the historic Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. He read extensively, enjoying good mysteries and many branches of science and technology. He had been an avid amateur photographer, astronomer, short-wave radio operator and fan of rail transport. When he traveled, he frequently sought out local museums catering to trolley, light rail and steam transport.
There will be a memorial service at a future date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution, in Rea's memory, to your favorite charity.

Marguerite B. Brown
Marguerite B. Brown (nee Spiering), 78, of Cedar Brook, died on July 27 [2001], at Virtua Health Systems in Berlin.
Brown worked for Whitehall Labs in Hammonton. She was a Deacon at the Hammonton Presbyterian Church and was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Folsom. She was an avid quilter, a fantastic cook, a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was admired for her warmth and love of life.
Brown was predeceased by her husband, Albert K. Brown Jr., and her brother, David Speiring.
Surviving her are: her daughters, Sandra Evans and her husband Tom, Susan Brown and her companion Ben Riggins, and Cynthia B. Long and her husband John; her sons, Albert K. Brown III and his wife Donna, and Jeffrey D. Brown and his wife Kathy; her brothers and sisters, Betty Mintz, Donald Spiering, Gene Spiering, Cleo Johnson, Glen Spiering, and Anton Spiering; and her grandchildren, Jeremy and Madelyn Edwards, Joshua and Zachary Brown, and Meagan and Jacob Brown.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 1341 Mays Landing Rd. in Folsom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church, 1341 Mays Landing Rd., Folsom, NJ 08037, or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 237, 410 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035.
Arrangements were made by the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home.

Maria Lubrano
Maria Lubrano, 27, of Margate, died Sunday, July 22 [2001], at home.
Born in Hammonton, Lubrano lived there until moving to Margate seven years ago. She was a hairdresser for Esthetica at Caesar’s in Atlantic City.
Surviving her are: her parents, Mario and Tina Lubrano, of Hammonton; her sister, Rita Lubrano, of Hammonton; and one nephew, Mario Lubrano, of Hammonton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 26, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres RC Church on North Egg Harbor Road in Hammonton.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, July 25, after 7 p.m. and again on Thursday, July 26, after 8:30 a.m., at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third St., Hammonton.
Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hammonton.
Arrangements were made by the Carnesale Funeral Home.
