He was a member of the South River Board of Education from 1972-1975 and the South River Borough Council from 1975-1978. He served as South River police commissioner in 1978 and director of the borough recreation department from 1968-1972. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Mauncele Pratola; a son, Anthony, at home; four sisters, Marie McAlister of Spotswood, Louise Marks and Jennie Cafone, both of Belleville, and Esther Meola of Florida. She was a former communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Her husband, Albert, predeceased her in 1982. She is survived by a son, Robert Berdel of Monroe Township; three daughters, Donna Morris of West Keansburg, Sandra Drust and Joanne Whalen of East Brunswick; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Services were held May 25 in the Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with interment following at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
