Janet R. France
Services for Janet Rae France of Hobbs will be held today at 10 a.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. The Rev. Bruce Kerby and the Rev. Leon Green will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
Mrs. France, 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at her home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Goshen, N.Y. She married George France in August 1964, in Pinebush, N.Y.
Mrs. France graduated from Grand Ramsey High School in New Jersey. She was a member of the Women's American Legion Auxiliary and the women's auxiliary of the V.F.W. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Mrs. France is survived by her husband of the home and a daughter, Jackie Blackman of Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ruth Shiner Smith, and two sisters, Beverly Moellman and Bernice Kropp.

Bess Miller
Services for Bess Miller of Midland will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Keeney Dickenson will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home Inc.
She will lie in state today from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The family will greet friends Saturday from 10-11:45 a.m.
Ms. Miller, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 24, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1905, in Bellefonte, Mo.
Ms. Miller was a member of First Baptist Church. The church was her life.
She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed politics.
Ms. Miller is survived by a son, Harry Sinclair of Midland, and a sister, Nell Hinman of Hemmett, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen White.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church memorial fund.

Marjorie Waits
LOVINGTON - Services for Marjorie Mirth Sewalt Waits of Lovington will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Roy Elmore will officiate. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home.
Mrs. Waits, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 25, at Lea Regional Medical Center.
She was born on April 19, 1916, in Carlsbad to Matthew and Clara Sewalt. She married John Williams Waits in Lovington.
Mrs. Waits graduated from Lovington High School and then received her master's degree in English from Texas Christian University. She worked for Eastern New Mexico University and TCU.
She then went to work for New Mexico Junior College before retiring in 1989.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Waits is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann "Casey" Haines of Perry, Mo.; a son, Charles Matthew Waits of Lovington; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on 1988; her father, Matthew Sewalt; and mother, Clara Creighton Sewalt Roberts.

Lorenzo D. McKinney Jr.
TACOMA, Wash. - At his request, there will be no funeral services for Lorenzo Dow "Mac" McKinney Jr. of Tacoma. Interment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent under the direction of Gaffney Cassedy Allen & Buckley King Funeral Home.
Mr. McKinney, 84, died on Friday, Jan. 19, in Tacoma.
Mr. McKinney, born in August 1917, spent many years living in Hobbs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He spent 30 years working for Phillips 66 Petroleum. Mr. McKinney moved to Tacoma after retiring.
He spent the last 12 years volunteering at Sound View Medical Clinic.
Mr. McKinney is survived by his wife, Jessie, of the home; two sisters, Jeri Edwards and Beverly Echols, both of Hobbs; a brother, John McKinney of Midlothian, Texas; a daughter, Diana; a son Loren; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lyle Anderson
Memorial services for Lyle "Reggie" Anderson of Seminole will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. The Rev. Gorton Smith will officiate.
Mr. Anderson, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at his home.
He was born July 21, 1930, in Winfield, Kan.
Mr. Anderson married Rosemary Bloodworth on Aug. 25, 1953, in Whiteflat, Texas.
Mr. Anderson graduated from Roswell High School in 1948. He went on to Texas Tech and graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1952. He attended officer cadet training school in New Port, R.I., where he achieved the rank of ensign.
He completed flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and went on to complete jet training in Corpus Christi, Texas. He spent the remainder of his military service in Miramar, Calif., where he flew off the U.S.S. Essex with squadron VA 113 as a second lieutenant until his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1957.
Mr. Anderson moved to Prairieview in 1957 where he worked as a farmer on his parents farm for 27 years. He went to work for M.C. Hightower for two-and-a-half years.
He then went to work for the soil conservation service in Lovington until his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Robin Zinter of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Wryn Best of Hobbs; a son, Joe Reginald Anderson of Las Angeles; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Anderson; a sister, Bobbie Laree King; and his parents, Walter and Lyal Elsie Brown Anderson.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church at 200 E. Snyder in Hobbs.

J.B. Jones
LOVINGTON - Services for J.B. Jones of Lovington will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Harry Pittam will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lovington Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Lubbock.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1913, in Young County, Texas. He married Lillian Morris on Jan. 29, 1945, in Carlsbad.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of the home; a son, David Jones of McCamey, Texas; three daughters, Sandra Jones of Houston, Elaine Vigil of Albuquerque and Amy Lawley of the home; two brothers, Gatlin Jones of Witchita Falls, Texas, and Marvin Jones Jr. of Knock City, Texas; two sisters, Thalie Watson and Sally Cousyn, both of Witchita Falls; six grand children and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Naomi Vaught
PORTALES - Services for Naomi Vaught of Portales will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Calvary Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at the Eunice Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
Mrs. Vaught will lie in state Thursday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. She will be taken to Calvary Mortuary in Eunice on Friday.
Mrs. Vaught, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at her home.
She was born March 10, 1915, in Eunice to Sarah Elizabeth and Thomas Long.
Mrs. Vaught's family were pioneers in Lea County, coming to the Eunice area at the turn of the century. She was the youngest of 12 children. She lived in Eunice, raising her family, until 1964 when she moved to Portales.
Mrs. Vaught is survived by three sons, Howard Chandler of Huntington Beach, Calif., Pat Chandler of Albuquerque, and Earl Lyon of Berthoud, Colo.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and all 11 of her siblings.

Alvin Skurlock
LOVINGTON - Services for Alvin "A.V." Skurlock of Lovington will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, at Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Estes will officiate. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.
Mr. Skurlock, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Hobbs.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1912, in Tuft, Texas. He married Inez Bow on Oct. 3, 1931, in Snyder, Texas.
Mr. Skurlock has lived in Lovington since 1948.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Tom Skurlock of Lovington; two daughters, Sherrie Bastos of San Antonio and Marg Brakebill of Temple, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn B. Parker
UVALDE, Texas - A memorial service and interment of ashes for Evelyn Burke Parker of Uvalde will be held on April 7 at the Washington memorial Chapel at Valley Forge, Penn.
Mrs. Parker, 80, died on Dec. 27, 2000, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Parker was born in Hobart, Okla., in 1920. She was the daughter of J.L. and Mattie Burke. Around 1930, the Burke family moved to Hobbs and she graduated from Hobbs High in the mid 1930s.
Mrs. Parker married William C. Parker of Dallas, who later became a career Air Force officer.
She is survived by her children, William of Fairfax, Va., Virginia Engle of Falls Church, Va., Valerie Henry of Wayne, Penn., and John of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; three sisters and a brother.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband.

Janet France
Services for Janet Rae France of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mrs. France, 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at her home. She was born on Oct. 7, 1937.
Mrs. France is survived by her husband, George, of the home.

Charlotte Conner
EUNICE - Services are pending for Charlotte Conner of Eunice at Calvary Funeral Home.
Mrs. Conner, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born July 20, 1919, in White Earth, Min.
Mrs. Conner is survived by two sons, Jim Conner Jr. of Eunice and jack Conner of Hobbs and a daughter, Patricia Louise Metke of Reseville, Calif.

Vina Connel
Graveside services for Vina Connel of Hobbs will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Lavoid Ford will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
She will not lie in state, but there is a guest book to sign at the funeral home.
Mrs. Connel, 96, died Monday, Jan. 22, at Good Samaritan Village.
She was born on Sept. 8, 1904, in Palo Pinto County, Texas. She married Vernon H. Connel on June 19, 1937, in Baird, Texas.
Mrs. Connel had been a resident of Hobbs since 1948.
Mrs. Connel is survived by two sons, Tom Connel and Jessie Connel, both of Hobbs; a daughter, Geri Riddle of Hobbs; a sister, Beulah Maner of Abilene; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, a brother and four sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Village at 1701 N. Turner in Hobbs.

Alvin Skurlock
LOVINGTON - Services are pending for Alvin Skurlock of Hobbs at Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Mr. Skurlock, 88, died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Hobbs Healthcare Center.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1912.

Lorenzo D. McKinney Jr.

LOVINGTON - Services are pending for J.B. Jones of Lovington at Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Mr. Jones was born Oct. 28, 1913.

Erasmo Gonzales
Services for Erasmo "Ross" Gonzales of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Joe Cordova will officiate.
Mr. Gonzales will lie in state at the funeral home today from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. A prayer vigil will be held at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home Chapel today at 7 p.m.
Mr. Gonzales, 54, died Monday, Jan. 22, at Lea Regional Medical Center.
He was born on April 23, 1946, in Artesia. He moved to this area in 1964. He married Peggy Ramirez Martinez on July 20, 1974, in Hobbs.
Mr. Gonzales was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and a past member of the American Legion Post 26. He served as an assistant Scout master for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 350. He joined the U.S. Army in December 1965 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in December of 1967.
He was awarded the Nathaniel Defense Service Medal for good conduct.
He was employed at Key Energy for the last 24 years as a construction supervisor.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and motorcycling and he was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Melanie Gonzales and Misty Lemons, both of Hobbs; three brothers, Sardo Gonzales and Henry Gonzales, both of Hobbs, and Tony Muņoz of Clearborn, Texas; a sister, Liz Segovia of Hobbs; four grandchildren; and numerous aunts; uncles; nephews; and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Efren Gonzales.

Lyle R. Anderson
Services are pending for Lyle Reginald "Reggie" Anderson of Higginbotham community near Seminole. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Anderson, 70, died n Saturday, Jan. 20, at his home.
He was born on July 21, 1930, in Winfield, Kan.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, of the home; two daughters, Wryn Best of Hobbs and Robin Zinter of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and a son, Joe Anderson of Las Angeles.

Johnny C. McCasland
ODESSA - Services for Johnny Calvin McCasland of Odessa will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Sunset Memorial Chapel. The Rev. David Ring will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden, under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. McCasland, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1925, at Lake Arthur to John and Mollie McCasland.
Mr. McCasland married Bonnie Jean Rae on Feb. 26, 1945. They moved to Odessa in 1968 from Artesia.
Mr. McCasland was a salesman in the retail sales industry. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the VFW Post 4372. He served in the U.S. Navy submarine service in World War II.
Mr. McCasland is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Johnny McCasland of Midland; a brother, Will McCasland of Eunice; a sister, Cecil Colvin of Canon City Colo.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Edward McCasland; two brothers, Dallas McCasland and Charley McCasland; and two sisters, Vernice Emmons and Vernace Cox.

Billy McBeth
Services are pending for Billy McBeth of Hobbs at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. McBeth, 62, died Monday, Jan. 22, at Hobbs Healthcare Center.
He was born July 18, 1938.

Frances J. Freeman
LOVINGTON - Services for Frances J. "Patsy" Shipp Freeman of Carlsbad will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Smith Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roy Elmore will officiate. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.
Mrs. Freeman, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 20, in Carlsbad.
She was born on May 22, 1921, in Abilene. She married Berry R. Freeman on July 11, 1939.
Mrs. Freeman was the owner and operator of the Golden West package store in Hobbs for many years. She was a pioneer of Lea County.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by two daughters, Linda Bari Freeman of Carlsbad, and Frances Lou Freeman of Odessa; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Burton Elbert Shipp and Annie Laura Hart Shipp; two brothers, Damon Shipp and William M. Shipp; and one grandson.
