James A. Anderson

Services for James Andrew Anderson of Hobbs will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Bel Aire Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. The Rev. Eddie Walker, Mr. Anderson's grandson, will officiate with the Rev. Shawn Drake assisting.

Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home.

Mr. Anderson, 93, died Monday, March 26, at Good Samaritan Village. He was born Oct. 21, 1907, in Ada, Okla. He moved to Foster, Okla., as a young boy and married Minnie Mae in Paul's Valley, Okla., in 1932.

Mr. Anderson later moved to Melrose, where he worked as a mason and farmer. During World War II he lived in San Francisco and worked on war ships as an electrician. In 1958 he and his wife moved to Hobbs.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his three daughters, Oela (Pete) Griffin of Hobbs, Ella Richards of Chino Hills, Calif., and Shirley Phillips of Tempe, Ariz.; his brother, Sam Anderson of Duncan, Okla.; his sister, Jewel Cornelius of North Hollywood, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death in 1984 by his wife of 52 years, his parents, one brother, three sisters and one grandson.

Mariah A. Orsak

EUNICE - Graveside services for Mariah Alexis Orsak of Dallas will be held at 1 p.m. today at Brunson Memorial Cemetery in Eunice. The Rev. Jose Pedro Valdez of Our Lady of Guadulupe Church in Hobbs will officiate. Services are under the direction of Calvary Funeral Home.

The infant was born and died Monday, March 26, in Dallas.

She is survived by her parents, Travis Orsak and Malissa Gonzales of Dallas; her paternal grandparents, Larry and Sue Orsak of Hobbs; her maternal grandmother, Luz Elvira Gonzales of Eunice; and by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

The infant was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Heriberto Gonzales.

Edwin F. Copple

LEWISVILLE, Texas - Funeral services for Edwin F. Copple of Highland Village will be held at 10 a.m. today at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Flower Mound Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Shafer will officiate.

Services are under the direction of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.

Mr. Copple, 73, died Monday, March 26, at Medical Center of Lewisville. He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Walnut Hill, Ill. Mr. Copple married Earlene Hogue on Aug. 16, 1952, in Hobbs. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. He worked for Amoco Corp. for 37 years as director of corporate benefit plans, and was a member of Primetimers in Highland Shores.

Mr. Copple is survived by his wife of 48 years; two daughters, Brenda Ellen Copple of Sarasota, Fla., and Ginger Marie Copple of Addison; two sons, Bruce Edwin Copple of League City, and David W. Copple of St. John, Ind.; one sister, Phyllis Diedrich of Nashville, Ill.; two brothers, Don E. Copple of Morton Grove, Ill., and Richard A. Copple of Ironwood, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Christian Community Action.

Andre Evans

Services for Andre Evans of Hobbs are pending with Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mr. Evans, 21, died Wednesday, March 28, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born June 13, 1979, in Hobbs.

Mr. Evans is survived by his mother, Demetria Evans of Hobbs.

Natasha H. Neal

LAS CRUCES - A graveside service for Natasha Helena Neal of Las Cruces was held at the Plank Family Cemetery at Mesa de las Viejas in Cebolla on Saturday, March 24. Services were under the direction of Block-Salazar Mortuary Inc. in Espaņola.

Ms. Neal, 13, died Thursday, March 22, in Albuquerque. She was born April 22, 1987, in Las Cruces.

Ms. Neal is survived by her mother, Tamra K. Neal; her father, Michael T. Neal; a sister, Rosie Gonzales; a brother, Daniel Neal, all of Las Cruces; two grandmothers, Janice Smith of Espaņola and Rita Neal of Hobbs; a great grandmother, Roseanna Gordon of Hobbs; a great grandfather, E.R. Pendleton of Tennessee; an aunt; two uncles; and many other extended family members.

Ms. Neal was preceded in death by her grandfather, Tom Neal.

Pearl Spoonemore

Graveside services for Pearl Elizabeth Spoonemore of Hobbs are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Jack Lott will officiate.

Visitation will be at Griffin Funeral Home from 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. today.

Mrs. Spoonemore, 90, died Friday, March 23, in Odessa. She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Tyler, Texas, and moved to Hobbs in 1932 where she lived until 1997.

A homemaker and a retired nurse, Mrs. Spoonemore was a member of the First Christian Church in Hobbs for more than 60 years.

She was past president of the VFW Auxiliary, the Military Order of Cooties, Crescent Rebekah Lodge No. 3 and past president and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynna Palmer of Hobbs and Leta Wall of Odessa; a son, Travis Spoonemore of El Paso; a brother, Jim Nicholas of Tyler; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, W.O. Spoonemore; one son, Marion Spoonemore; and two sisters, Callie Wallace and Jewel Kelly.

John L. Smith

LOVINGTON - Graveside services for John Lucian Smith of Lovington will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Lovington Cemetery. Jack Addudle will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Bethany Funeral Home in Lovington.

Mr. Smith, 84, died Friday, March 23, at Lakeview Christian Retirement Center in Carlsbad. He was born Feb. 22, 1917, in White Feather, Ark.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Meetze and Pat Langlitz, both of Midland; his two sons, Marvin Smith of Garland, Texas, and James Smith of Sunnyville, Calif.; a brother, I.C. Smith of Lovington; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Edwin W. Halpain

Services are pending with Bethany Funeral Home for Edwin W. Halpain of Lovington.

Mr. Halpain, 66, died Monday, March 26, at his residence.

Oneta G. Cooper

Services are pending with Bethany Funeral Home for Oneta G. Cooper .

Mrs. Cooper, 88, died Sunday, March 25, at Good Samaritan of Lovington.

The Rev. J.D. Daniels

Services for the Rev. J.D. Daniels of Hobbs will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at Christ Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery.

The Rev. Keith Jones of Albuquerque will officiate. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Sunday, March 25, and from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Monday, March 26.

Rev. Daniels, 80, died Thursday, March 22, at his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Foreman, Ark.

Rev. Daniels pastored at Community Church of God in Christ for 11 years, at the Pentecostal Temple for eight years and was an Evangelist for 30 years.

He was survived by his wife, Willie Lee Daniel, of Hobbs; a daughter, Julia D. Daniels, of Hobbs; three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jim and Rosie Daniels; a son, Lee Daniels; three brothers, Willis, Otis and Vernel Daniels; four sisters, Ada, Melese, Irma and Dorothy.

Pearl Spoonemore

Graveside services for Pearl Elizabeth Spoonemore of Odessa are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Memory Gardens.

Services are under the direction Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa. Visitation will be at Griffin Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27.

Mrs. Spoonemore, 90, died Friday, March 23, at her home. She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Tyler, Texas, and moved to Hobbs in 1932. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse.

She was member of the First Christian Church in Hobbs for more than 50 years.

She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the V.F.W., a member of the Military Order of Cooties, a member of the Order of Rebekah and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include a son, Travis Spoonemore of El Paso; two daughters, Leta Wall of Odessa, and Lynna Palmer of Hobbs; a brother, Jim Nicholas of Tyler; seven grandchildren, five great-grand children and one great-great-grandchild.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 37 years, W.O. Spoonemore; one son and two sisters.
Gonzales correction

In Saturday's obituary for Eusebio A. Gonzales, his brother Mario Espinoza of Albuquerque was incorrectly identified.

John R. Armstrong

GALVESTON - Memorial services for John Robert Armstrong of Humble, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston. There are no other services.

Mr. Armstrong, 62, died Thursday, March 22, at North East Medical Center in Humble. He was born July 8, 1938, in Tucson.

He attended public school in Tonkawa and Ponca City, Okla., and Hobbs, where he excelled on the tennis team. Mr. Armstrong served in the U.S. Army. He worked in Hobbs, Houston and various cities in Oklahoma as an automobile dealer and as an independent building contractor.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his stepmother, Wilma Armstrong of Hobbs; his son, John Dirk Armstrong; three daughters, Glenna Ruth Chance of Humble, Demita Lynn Winegartner of Tecumseh, Okla.

Also by Kelly Jean Strange of San Angelo; two brothers, Jerry Armstrong of Sacramento, Calif., and Jack Armstrong of Hobbs; two sisters, JoBeth Desoto of Hobbs and Judy McDonald of Indianapolis; several daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his mother, Ermille Lorraine Brookhart Armstrong; his father, John Henry Armstrong; his aunt, Ruth Brookhart McGuckin and her brother, Robert Brookhart; and life-long friend, Joy Knott of Hobbs.

Sarah Bood

Services for Sarah Bood of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. today, March 24, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. The Rev. Daniel Miller will officiate. Services are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home Inc.

Mrs. Bood, 67, died Thursday, March 22, in Hobbs. She was born July 7, 1933, in Waco. She married B.J. Bood July 7, 1949, in Belton, Texas. Mrs. Bood was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and also was a Woman of the Moose.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul's Youth Ministry Endowment Fund or VistaCare Family Hospice, 1515 W. Calle Sur.

Eusebio A. Gonzales

Services for Eusebio A. Gonzales of Hobbs were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, in Albuquerque. Mr. Gonzales was cremated and burial took place in Fort Davis, Texas. Services were under the direction of Direct Services Funeral Home in Albuquerque.

Mr. Gonzales, 55, died Saturday, March 17, in Albuquerque. He was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Fort Davis.

Mr. Gonzales is survived by his mother, Saludina Gonzales of Hobbs; two sons, Sammy D. Reyna and Eusebio R. Gonzales, both of Hobbs; his daughter, Vanessa Luna of Dallas; two brothers, Pio Gonzales of Santa Fe and Adolph Espinoza of Albuquerque; four sisters, Manuela Dominguez of Georgetown, Texas, Mario Espinoza of Albuquerque, Anna Marie Gann of Laredo, Texas, and Joann Espinoza of Hobbs; his former wife, Emily Nava of Marble Falls, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Gonzales was preceded in death by his father, Manuel S. Gonzales of Fort Davis.
