U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

VIRGINIA L. HARRIS
ANGELICA - Virginia L. Harris of 88 E. Main St. died Thursday (May 8, 2003) in St. James Hospital, Hornell, following an illness.
Born May 17, 1923, in Westfield, Pa., she was a daughter of George H. and Eva Mack Wood. On Aug. 20, 1943, in Wellsville, she married Manley G. Harris, who survives.
Mrs. Harris was a 1941 graduate of Westfield Central School, class of 1941.
She and her husband owned and operated the Harris Grocery Store in Angelica from 1949 to 1987.
Mrs. Harris was a member of Angelica Chapter 241 Order of the Eastern Star where she was royal matron in 1960, 1974 and 1975 and past district deputy in 1982.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, taking walks, cooking and most of all taking care of her family and especially her great- granddaughter.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Judy H. (James) Treichler of Cameron; a granddaughter, Jackie T. (David) Greene of Belmont; and a great-granddaughter, Genevieve Marie Greene.
She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Wood; and a sister, Lella Fitzwater.
Friends called Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mulholland-Crowell
Funeral Home Inc., 296 N. Main St., Wellsville. There was no Sunday visitation.
Funeral and committal services were held Monday (May 12, 2003) at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Gerald D. Clark, pastor at Farmersville Center Community Church, officiated. Burial was in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica.
Memorials may be made to the Angelica Hose Co.

JAMES H. MCINTYRE
BELFAST - James H. McIntyre of Route 305, Belfast, died Saturday (May 3, 2003) at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a long illness.
Born in Gowandaon Feb. 21, 1934, he was a son of Milford and Irene Altman McIntyre.
He was a graduate of Griffith Institute Central School in Springville and served with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Mr. McIntyre had been employed at Acme Electric Corp. in Cuba, the Gowanda Penny Saver and as a welder at Foster-Wheeler in Dansville prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Franklinville VFW Post 9487 and loved fishing and spending winters in Florida.
Surviving besides his lifelong companion, Rosie Hamilton of Belfast, are two sons, James V. McIntyre of Alamogordo, N.M., and Michael McIntyre of Whitesville; two daughters, Patricia (Russell) Spangler of Alamogordo and Wendy (Randy) Harms of Scio; four grandchildren, Yvonne Rysdan of Washington state, Shannon Latham of New Mexico Stacy McIntyre of Pennsylvania and Robert Harms of Scio; four stepchildren, Sue Shedlock of Scio, Kevin Hamilton of Friendship, Byron Hamilton and Martin Hamilton, both of Belfast; nine stepgrandchildren, Bridget Hamilton of Buffalo, Brandon Hamilton of Olean, Michael Shedlock of Scio, Brian Hamilton of Belfast, Nicole Linderman of Watertown, Yvonne Fleischman of Georgia, Janel Hamilton of Buffalo, Carol Fisk of Richburg and Eric Hamilton of Utah; two brothers, Michael (Cheryl) McIntyre and Robert McIntyre, both of Bradford, Pa.; and a very special aunt, Grace Altman of Springville.
Visitation was not observed. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Black Creek Cemetery, town of New Hudson.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are under direction of the McIntosh Funeral Home, Nicholson Chapel, Cuba.

WILFRED J. SCHNEIDER
SCIO - Wilfred “Bill” J. Schneider, 73, died Tuesday (Marcb 18, 2003) .
He was a son of the late Wilfred Schneider and Virginia Pasquale. He attended school in Scio. He married Duretta (Bailey) Schneider who survives.
The Schneiders are charter and for several years, were active members of the Western New York Steam Gas and Steam Association in Alexander, NY.
Survivors in addition to his wife who lives in Moultrie, GA. are, five children, Ivy Stewart of Lake Wales, FL., Wayne of CA., Laurence of Ocala, FL., Wilfred L. of Orlando, FL., and Laurel Cotton of Chapel Hill, NC and eight grandchildren.

William E. Newsome Sr.
Wellsville, NY
William E. Newsome Sr., 67 of 2495 Lewis Rd. passed away on July 9, 2003 at his home. He was born on June 25, 1936 in Pikesville, KY the son of Floyd and Molly (Cauldwell) Newsome. On November 19, 1994 he married Patricia Kirk in Elkton, MD who survives.
William was formerly of Conowingo, MD and had lived in Wellsville since June of 2001. He owned and operated an excavating business from 1969 until 1999 when he retired to farming.
Surviving besides his wife are 6 children; Janet Marie (Richard) Brewer of Rising Sun, MD, William E. Newsome Jr. of Rising Sun MD, Joseph Andrew (Ellie Mae) Newsome of Conowingo, MD, Deborah Anne Newsome, Diane Rose Newsome, and David Michael Newsome all at home. Also 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Draxie Reynolds of Penny KY, Susie Jennings of Holtwood, PA, and 1 brother; Wade Newsome of Wellsville as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Saturday July 12, from 11:00 till 12 noon at J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral service will be at 12 noon at the funeral home, with Rev. Mason Sorensen presiding. Burial will be in the Newsome Family Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorials can be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Albert E. Cline
Friendship, NY
Albert E. Cline, 96 of 3973 County Road 34 died on Friday June 25, 2004 at his home. He was born August 24, 1907 in Ulysses, PA the son of Walter and Carrie (Dezutter) Cline. On December 7, 1925 in Whitesville he married Pearl N. Rogers who predeceased him on May 29, 1998.
Albert had been a dairy farmer in the Whitesville & Wellsville area. He then moved to Bolivar and worked on an oil lease for Charles Chipman. He later was employed by Dresser-Clark in Olean until he retired and moved to Friendship.
He is survived by a daughter, Virginia A. Sexton of Bolivar; a son, Ronald E. Cline of Beaver Falls, PA, a sister Myrtle Brown of Kissimmee, FL, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Oristus E. Cline and a sister, Margaret Baxter.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in WELLSVILLE. The funeral service will be on Wednesday June 30th at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Thomas R. Kimbrough presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville and memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Alekos I. "Alex" Spyralatos
North Myrtle Beach
Alekos I. "Alex" Spyralatos, 69, of Tilghman Estates, died at home on Monday, August 25, 2003. He was born November 20, 1933 in Greece, a son of the late Ionnis and Ionna Raptis Spyralatos.
He emigrated to the United States in 1955 from Greece and worked at the Texas Hot Restaurant in Wellsville, NY before moving to Alfred, NY in 1965 where he owned Alex’s Restaurant and other businesses over the years. He came to Myrtle Beach from Alfred in 1986 and in 1988 bought Garden City Pancake House. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Ahepa in Myrtle Beach and the Masonic Lodge in Alfred.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Angiliki Grivas Spyralatos, a son, John Spyralatos and his wife, Salome of Greece, a daughter, Penelope Vlandis and her husband William of Myrtle Beach; three brothers, Constantine Spyralatos and Dimitrios Spyralatos both of Greece and Vasilios Spyralatos of Chicago; two sisters, Thekla Trakosis of New Jersey and Vasiliki Bambalos of Australia; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral services was held Thursday at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach. Burial was held in Southeastern Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach.

Alma D. Hornburg
Wellsville, NY
Alma D. Hornburg, a former resident of Stevens Street passed away on Thursday January 1, 2004 at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home. She was born August 31, 1908 in Wellsville to Edward E. and A. Belle Behrens Hornburg. She attended Wellsville High School and in 1944 went to work for Worthington from where she retired from in 1973.Alma was a member of the Wellsville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where she had served as treasurer and in her younger years taught the children Primary Sunday School Class.
She is survived by a brother Glenn E. [Gladys] Hornburg of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a sister Beulah Stryker and a brother Raymond T.J. Hornburg.
Friends may call on Friday January 2, 2004 from 6-9pm in the J.W. Embser & Sons F.H. in Wellsville where a funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11am with Rev. Michael Brady presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
