Irene M. Hussey
Wellsville, NY
Irene M. Hussey, of 160 Seneca Street, passed away peacefully Monday November 24, 2003 at the Wellsville Highland Care Center. She was born December 21, 1909 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of Harry and Lillian (Kummer) Beardshaw. She was first married to George Molner in 1930 in the Mogadore Ohio Church of Christ, he predeceased her in 1944. On November 27, 1952 she married Clifford M. Berry, who was the Superintendent of the Franklin County School System, he predeceased her 1972. In 1975 she married L. Kenneth Hussey who predeceased her in 1989. Irene was a former resident of Akron, Ohio, North Bangor, NY and Palmetto, FL. She was formerly employed as a Customer Service Supervisor for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in Akron, Ohio and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Beverly (Gordon) Grantier of Wellsville, NY. 3 step daughters, Phyllis Smith of Charlotte, NC. Charmion Brothers of Dresden, Maine and Dulcianne Vye of Lemoine, Maine, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Marian Taylor and Elizabeth Myers.
There will be no prior visitation, a memorial service is being planned for a later date and interment will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Akron, Ohio. Memorial suggestions include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Stannards United Methodist Church or the Allegany County Office for the Aging.Arrangement are under the direction of J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville.
Friends are invited to call on Friday November 28 from 12 noon to 2pm in the J.W. Embser & Sons F.H. in Wellsville followed by a Funeral service at 2pm in the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery and Memorials may be made to the Allegany County SPCA.

Jack W. Moshier
Wellsville, NY
Jack W. Moshier, 66, of 23 S. Main Street died on Saturday October 18, 2003 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born May 2, 1937 in Scio, NY the son of Avery N. and Eugenia Mae (Clark) Mosher. Jack was raised in Bolivar, was a long time resident of Port Allegany, PA. and has been a resident of Wellsville for the past 10 years. He had been employed as a cook at Manning’s Diner in Port Allegany for 15 years and was a bartender at the Butler Hotel, the Moose Lodge, The Two Mile Inn and the American Legion all in Port Allegany.
He is survived by 2 brothers; Lloyd N. Mosher of Eldred, PA. and Robert L. Mosher of Bradford, PA. as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers; Avery Mosher Jr. and Richard Mosher, and one sister; Eleanor Ayers.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Tuesday October 21, 2003 at 11:00 AM. in the funeral home, interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville, and memorial suggestions include the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

JACQUELINE “JACKIE” WEIGAND
Wellsville, NY
JACQUELINE “JACKIE” WEIGAND, 58 of 17 Loring Ave. passed away July 26, 2004 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. She was born October 29, 1945 in Montour Falls, NY the daughter of Murlyn and Marco (Callahan) Conde. On December 31, 1971 in Alfred, NY she married G. Robert Weigand, who survives.
She was a 1964 graduate of Andover Central School where she received the DAR citizenship award and a 1967 graduate of the Arnot-Ogden Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Elmira, NY. She was a longtime resident of Wellsville. Jackie was a registered nurse, employed at Jones Memorial Hospital on the second floor and in the unit. In 1973 she began the diabetes education program at Jones Memorial. Later she worked at both the Wellsville Manor Care Center and the Wellsville Highland Nursing Home.
Jackie was a member and board member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Wellsville. She was a member and past president of the Genesee Valley Chorus and the Wellsville Performing Arts Association. She was also a member of the board of directors of the Wellsville Lions Diabetes Center at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a former member and past officer of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was in the first Allegany County Advanced E. M. T. Class, participated in many Lions Club Minstrel Shows and helped bring the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra to Wellsville twice.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother: Marco Conde of Andover, a son: Robert C. Weigand of New York City, a brother: David F. (Diane) Conde of Alfred Station, a sister in law: Elizabeth Conde of North Royalton, OH, several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father and 2 brothers: James and Robert Conde.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. Wellsville Lions Club members are invited to attend a service at 6:45 pm in the funeral home on Wednesday. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am in the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church on Fassett Lane with Rev. Carl Knitter presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church or the Wellsville Lions Diabetes Center in care of Jones Memorial Hospital.

James V. Fulmer
Wellsville / Conesus Lake NY
James V. Fulmer, of 24 Fairview Avenue, died Sunday September 21, 2003 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born January 16, 1926 in Wellsville, the son of Oliver and Helen (Harder) Tomlinson. On October 15, 1949 in Baltimore, MD he married Elaine Abercrombie, who survives. He was a 1944 graduate of Wellsville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korean Conflict serving with the Seabees. Jim was a graduate of Lycoming College and was formerly employed at Connons in Wellsville. He later was an agent and co-owner at the Brown & Stout Insurance Agency in Wellsville for over 40 years, retiring in 1988. He had served as the Allegany County March of Dimes Chairman for 18 years, was involved with Wellsville Midget League Football, was an umpire for the Wellsville Little League for over 40 years and was very active with the Wellsville Small Court Basketball program for over 50 years. During his retirement he delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was a member of 1943 undefeated/untied Wellsville Football Team, Wellsville High School Hall of Fame, Allegany County Sports Hall of Fame and the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, Person of the Year. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Wellsville, was an avid storyteller and was a friend to all.
Surviving in addition to his wife Elaine are 4 children James (Marjorie) Fulmer of LeRoy, Janice (John) Shively of Boulder, Co., Lynn Fulmer of Cuba and John (Lisa) Fulmer of Rochester. Six grandchildren, Brian, Susan and Brendan Fulmer, Bret and Lane Shively and Jonathon Yioulos, as well as several cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. 34 W. State Street in Wellsville. The funeral will be Wednesday September 24th at 11:00 am. in St. John’s Episcopal Church 200 N. Main Street in Wellsville, with Rev. Dawn Barrett presiding. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville and memorial suggestions include, in lieu of flowers, St. John’s Church, The Jones Memorial Hospital Memorial Fund or the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

J. CHARLES SHINE
Wellsville, NY
J. CHARLES SHINE – Former Allegany County Legislator, 88, of Williams Ave. died Thursday, February 19, 2004. Born Feb. 4, 1916 in Wellsville, he was son of Timothy J. and Jennie (Murphy) Shine. On June 6, 1945, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he married Kathleen Lomasney, who died March 26, 1999.
He was a graduate of Wellsville High School, class of 1935. He attended Duquesne University and Alfred University. Mr. Shine enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1943 and was commissioned an officer in the 35th Infantry Division, Company 137. He served in combat in France in 1944, where he was seriously wounded. He received the Purple Heart and the Jubilee of Liberty Medal in recognition for his service during Operation Overlord. He was honorably discharged as a captain in 1946.
He was a self-employed businessman, owning and operation Shine’s Liquor Store in Wellsville from 1946 to 1976. He was later employed by the Joyce Pipeline Corp. of Andover. He was active in the Democratic Party in Allegany County and from 1970 to1990, he was an Allegany County Legislator.
In 1961, with a small group of parents, Mr. Shine formed the local chapter of the Allegany Arc. He had a love of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his years at Duquesne and cultivated a friendship with former owner Art Rooney. With his interest in sports, he decided to generate fund-raising for the Allegany Arc with the development of a Sports Night, bringing sports personalities to Wellsville including Joe Louis, Billy Conn, Gale Sayers, “Mean” Joe Green, Alex Karras, Rocky Bleier, Reggie McKenzie, Bob Lanier, Earl Morrell, “Frenchie” Fuqua, Ray Mansfield and Mote Ledbetter. In appreciation of his efforts, the Allegany Arc founded the “Charlie Award in 1990 in Mr. Shine’s honor to recognize people’s service to the community. In 1995, Allegany Arc dedicated their Habilitation Center in his name.
The Wellsville Elks Club named Mr. Shine “Man of the Year” in 1969. The Olean Times Herald recognized his efforts with the honor of Sports Man of the Year in 1977. Mr. Shine served on the Allegany State Park Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission from 1988 to 1999. He was appointed by the governor to the Board of Visitors of J.N. Adams Developmental Center, serving on the board for many years. He was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 703, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2530, BPOE 1945, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are six children, Timothy (Molly) Shine of Fairport, Gloria (David) Mack of Brockport, Kathleen Shine of Willoughby, Ohio, James Shine of Wellsville, David (Theresa) Shine of Wickliffe, Ohio and Eileen (Joseph) Schaffner of Bolivar; a brother in law, Joseph Quigley of Duluth, Minn.; three nephews, James Quigley and Thomas (Robin) Quigley both of Duluth, and Joseph (Patti) Quigley of Pittsburgh, PA., 10 grandchildren and many cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, William Richard; and two sisters in law, Winifred Lange and Eileen Quigley.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Funeral services will be held Monday, beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Monsignor Leo McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville.
Donations may be made to the Allegany Arc or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Jean Marie O’Donnell Baker
Wellsville, NY
Jean Marie O’Donnell Baker, of Weidrich Road, passed away on Monday September 27, 2004 in Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 15,1938 to Joseph A. and Mary Charlantini O’Donnell and on August 10,1957 in Wellsville she married A. Michael “Mickey”Baker who survives.
Jean was a life long resident of Wellsville who graduated from the Immaculate Conception School and from Wellsville High School in 1955. After High School she was a secretary at Air Preheater and then took time to raise her family. She went to work for WLSV Radio and from 1991 to the present she was a secretary and receptionist for ARC in Wellsville. Jean had a strong zest for life and enjoyed looking after her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook, bake and play bridge with her friends.
Jean was a life long member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.
Surviving besides her husband and mother of Wellsville:2 sons Terrence [Rebecca K.] Baker of Akron and William Baker of Rochester; 2 daughters Mary Jo [Robert] Butler of Williamsville and Veronica [Russell] Lyons of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren a brother Patrick O’Donnell of Andover as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 7-9 pm and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. On Saturday a prayer service will be held in the Funeral Home at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Dennis Wolf as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery and Memorials may be made to either the Allegany County ARC or the Immaculate Conception School.
