Armond J. Darcangelo
Armond Joseph Darcangelo, 88 years old, formerly of 245 E. Pulteney Street, Corning died Friday, June 1, 2007. He resided at 1504 Walker Road, Freeland, MD.
The son of the late Louis and Josephine Lidano Darcangelo, Armond was born May 30, 1919 in Corning, New York. He was a graduate of Northside High School where he excelled on the football and track teams. He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Mattei Darcangelo, who he married on February 23, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church while he resided in Corning. He was a member of the 302nd Engineers battalion in the US Army from 1942 thru 1945, where he served in many foreign battles during World War II, including Guam and Okinawa. Armond had over 40 years of active services as an instrument mechanic at the Pressware Plant of Corning Glass Works from 1944-1984.
An avid gardener, Armond even had his own greenhouse business, and worked for his nephew at Massi’s Green house after he retired from the Glass Works.
Armond was a lifetime member of the VFW, and was a member of the America Flint Glass Workers Union, Local 1000. He was a member of the Marconi Lodge and was a community leader in the Boy Scouts of America.
Armond thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, and loved taking his 5 mile walks throughout Corning, the city he loved. The people of Corning became accustomed to seeing his smiling face around town.
Armond is survived by his wife; Clara of 65 years. Three Sons; A. Francis (Joan), James M. (Marilyn), and Mark J. (MaryBeth). He is also survived by 6 grandsons; Nick (Heather), Brandon, Devin, Jesse, Ryan and Jaret. Two granddaughters; Marleigh and Samantha. He had 1 great-grandson; Brady (son of Nick). He is also survived by sister-in-law Virginia Darcangelo and brothers-in-law Ronald Baltzer and Raymond Schaller.
He is predeceased by his brothers; Alfred and Richard. Sisters; Anna Massi, Antonia Pepe, Madeline Telehany, Jolanda McLauchlan, Margaret Schaller and Gloria Baltzer.
Friends are invited to call at Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, NY 6-8pm on Monday, June 4, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 10am, St. Vincent de Paul Church, Corning, NY. Jacquelyn E. Warunek
Oviedo, FL
Jacquelyn E. "Jackie" Warunek, 81 years, formerly of Corning, NY, died Wednesday May 16, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Oviedo, FL.
She was born in Corning, NY October 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Keith and Beatrice Shepard Heck. She was a graduate of Northside High School and Rochester Business Institute.
Jacquelyn and Edward Warunek were married in St. Patrick’s Church Corning, NY, September 4, 1965. He predeceased her March 31, 1988.
"Jackie" served the Public for over 40 years in the Travel industry. She not only managed and owned travel agencies, but also taught at the Palm Beach Junior College in Palm Beach, Florida so that others could become Certified Travel Consultants. Her daily motto was "To always bring a little sunshine into everyone’s life by creating the perfect vacation that brought reality to everyone’s dreams".
Prior to her career in travel Jackie was employed atCorning Inc. And taught dancing for Arthur Murray to many of the Glass Works employees.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Patrick’s Church and the Auxiliary of the Corning American Legion.
Surviving her two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Merrills Restagno of Oviedo, FL and Mrs. Bonnie Merrills Gorton of Chester, VA. Four grandchildren, Sgt. First Class Gerald Houghtaling II of Ft. Hood, TX, Theresa Loftin of Conway, AR, Mrs. Jackie Glenn of Chester, VA and Miss Paula Gorton of Chester, VA. Three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Philip J. "Phil" Nalepa
Painted Post, N.Y.
Philip J. "Phil" Nalepa, 58 years, of Knollbrook Lane, died Tuesday May 29, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Mt. Pleasant PA, the son of the late Peter and Anna Uhrinek Nalepa.
He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Greensburg, PA. (Class of 1966) and received his Bachelor’s degree from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA. and his Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, PA.
Phil and Carol Mitrik were married August 5, 1972 in Greensburg, PA, relocating twenty three years ago to the Corning/Painted Post area.
He was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Mary’s Church, Corning, N.Y. and a member of the Future Planning Committee of the Parish. He was also a past coach and Board Member of the Erwin Valley/Painted Post Cinderella Softball League.
His enjoyment later in life was limited to spending time with his family. They spent much time talking, sitting on the porch in the sunshine, watching the backyard deer and birds, and having fun together. When he was younger and in better health, Phil also enjoyed working in the yard, having all the special tools to fix virtually anything that was broken, fishing, canoeing, boating, waterskiing, and downhill skiing. Throughout his career at Westinghouse in PA and NJ, and Phillips Lighting in Bath, NY, Phil’s creativity earned him five patents. He held positions in physical chemistry, including Manufacturing Engineer and Specifications Manager. Phil was a brave man who demonstrated strength, faith and perseverance every day. All who loved him and whom he loved will miss him, for he left a permanent mark on their hearts.
Surviving his wife Carol of 34 years. Daughter; Maren (Michael) Hess of Big Flats, N.Y. Brothers; Edward (Betty) Nalepa of Burbank, OH and Peter (Myrna) Nalepa of Greensburg, PA. Sisters; Bernadette (Patrick) Santucci of Dayton, OH. and Patricia (Edward) Dlugos of Greensburg, PA. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven "Eber" R. Comfort
Caton, N.Y.
Steven "Eber" R. Comfort, 49 years, died unexpectedly Friday May 11, 2007 at his home 1297 Hittown Rd.
He was born March 14, 1958 in Corning, N.Y. the son of the late Joseph W. and Norma J. Kelly Comfort. A lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Corning/Painted Post East High School (Class of 1977) and he attended Corning Community College.
Steve and Sheila Black were married July 29, 1988 in Corning, NY.
He was employed as a laborer for Corning Inc. and was a member of the United Steel Workers Union 1000 from 1978 til his death.
"Eber" was a member of the Caton United Methodist Church and the Marconi Lodge of Corning.
He was a Race Car & Motorcycle enthusiast; Racing cars at Woodhull and bikes at Unadilla and won many championships. He also was very supportive of his sons go-kart racing and was elated with his wins. He was an avid sportsman - Bow Hunting and Fishing. He also was a coach for Corning National Little League. He was known for always putting a smile on ones face. "Eber" was a loving and devoted husband, dad and will be missed by his family and numerous friends.
Surviving his wife; Sheila of 20 years. Son; Steven Michael Comfort and daughter Sadie Marie Comfort both at home. A special niece; Terra Lynn Comfort of Lindley, N.Y. Brothers; Joseph Comfort of Auburn, N.Y. and Larry Comfort of Waukill, N.Y. Sister; Barbara Comfort of Corning, N.Y. Also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by Brother; Gary Robert Comfort.

Attorney Carmen Anthony Miller, 75 years, died Friday at his home at 2745 Forest Hill Drive.
He was born June 13, 1931 in Corning, N.Y. the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Dellisante Miller.
A lifetime resident of Corning, N.Y., a graduate of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, Corning Northside (Class of 1949) College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. and Georgetown Law School, Washington, D.C. He served three years in the United States Air Force, Judge Advocate General’s Department.
Attorney Miller has practiced law in the area since 1961 and has served as Town of Corning Attorney from 1968 until his death.
He is a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Vincent de Paul Church and St. Catherine’s, Addison, N.Y., Corning Knights of Columbus, Marconi Lodge of Corning and the Alumni Council of Northside School.
Surviving his wife; Antoinette "Toni" of 39 years. Son; Philip (Kristen) Miller of Glastonbury, CT. and Daughter; Susan Miller of Fayetteville, N.Y. Edna I. Geisler
Edna I. Geisler, 94 years, formerly of Corning, NY, died Thursday May 10, 2007 at the Elcor Health Care Services.
She was born October 9, 1912 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late John and Minnie Coryell Lohr. A lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Northside High School.
Edna and Raymond Geisler were married in 1931. He predeceased her July 26, 1963.
She was employed with Corning Inc. as an Inspector. She had 65 years active and inactive service with the company.
Edna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corning and volunteered at the Corning Hospital, American Red Cross and the Corning Senior Citizens Center. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading and challenging a good crossword puzzle.
Surviving, her daughters, Dolores (Ants) Rahe and Cindy (Steve) Blackwell all of Corning, NY. Grandchildren, David Rahe, Lisa Mocquet, Eric Rahe and Scott and Brett Blackwell. Three Great Grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew and Natalie Mocquet. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her Brother; Raymond Lohr and Sisters; Beatrice Ferguson, Esther Marty and Helen Gerhardt.

Joseph F. Schroeder

Joseph F. Schroeder, 64 years, of 8769 Stevens Rd., Lindley, NY, died Saturday April 28, 2007 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
He was born November 17, 1942 in Corning, NY the son of the late Joseph and Isabelle Lewis Schroeder. A lifetime resident of the area, graduating from Corning Free Academy (class of 1960) and attending Corning Community College.
Joe and Janet Cisco were married May 18, 1968 in Corning, NY.
He was employed with Corning Inc. before becoming employed as a carpenter/millwright with 700/281 Union ,retiring in 2000 with 34 years service. He had served as treasurer and financial secretary for the Union.
He was a member of the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071 and the Corning Moose Lodge and the NRA.
Joe loved the outdoors, especially the lakes and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted family man and loved his grandchildren.
Surviving his wife of thirty eight years, Janet. Sons, Jeffrey (Kathleen) Schroeder of Penfield, NY and Joseph (Cathy) Schroeder of Corning, NY. Grandchildren, Jacob, Brady, Kyra and Jaxon. Sisters, Mary Ann (Robert) Brewer and Margaret Schroeder all of Corning, NY. Sister in law, Laura(Frederic) Wagner of Elmira, NY.Also several nieces, nephews and special friend Sandy Davis.

Stella Allison, 92 years, formerly of Cutler Avenue, Corning, NY died Saturday May 5, 2007 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
She was born July 24, 1914 in Corning, NY the daughter of the late Andrew and Tillie Hlywa Molsen. A lifetime resident of Corning and graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Stella and Elis Allison were married and he predeceased her in 1966.
She was employed as a Silk Screener for Corning Inc. with over 35 years service with the Company.
Stella was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Vincent de Paul and Immaculate Heart of Mary Churches.
Surviving her brother in law; Richard Potter of Painted Post, NY Also several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters; Helen Warunek, Mary L. Bieda and Julia Potter and brothers; Peter Molsen and Michael Molsen.

Rose M. Viselli 92 years formerly of Corning, NY died Friday April 20, 2007 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 13, 1915 in Corning, NY the daughter of the late Samuel and Ursula Ferraro.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School and attended Corning Free Academy.
Rose and Thomas L. Viselli Sr. were married September 7, 1936 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY. He predeceased her March 24, 2004.
She had been employed as a Glass Inspector for Corning, Inc. later was a cook at Corning Northside High School and retired as Manager for the Red Barn Restaurant with 10 years service.
Rose was a loving person, enjoyed reminiscing - loved cooking and teacher her Italian language. Her hobbies were arts and crafts, especially knitting. She will be missed by her devoted family and many friends.
Surviving her son; Thomas L. (Sandra) Viselli Jr. of Romney, W.V. Grandsons; Christopher Viselli of VA and Scott Viselli of Winchester, VA. Great Grandchildren; Nicholas Viselli, Raymond Viselli and Jacob Viselli. Also several nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Mathewson 90 years formerly of Hidden Forest, Painted Post, NY died Thursday April 12, 2007 at the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Corning, N.Y., September 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Stewart and Anna Mae Merrick Hamilton. A lifetime resident of Corning, attending Northside High School.
Mary and E. Wesley Mathewson were married June 27, 1936 in the North Baptist Church of Corning. He predeceased her January 13, 1994.
She was a member of the North Baptist Church, Corning, NY.
Loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She liked to bake, crochet and challenging jig saw puzzles.
Surviving her daughter and son in law; Janet and Ford Bruce of Bath, NY. Grandsons; David (Shadra) Bruce of Boise, Idaho and Thomas (Debra) Taft of Owego, NY. Eight great grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters; Mildred Bobrick, Anna Johns and Edna McIntyre. Her brother; Edwin Hamilton.

Anne Klokus 86 years of 221 East Second Street died Saturday April 8, 2007 at her home.
She was born October 10, 1920 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of the late Peter and Eva Romaniuk Drozd. She received her education with the Pennsylvania School System.
Anne and Anthony (Tony) Klokus were married October 29, 1938 in St. Peters and Pauls Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he predeceased her February 23, 1990.
She and her family relocated to the Corning Area in 1952..
Anne was a quite, private, non judgmental, joyful, giving person. Always adding just a bit of happiness to ones life (whether a smile, touch, or a bit of sweet). It was the needs of others that was important to her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and shared the pride of her family with others. She will truly be missed by family and friends.

Oscar Harold “Chucky” Sparling 75 years of 357 East Third Street, Corning, NY died Thursday April 5, 2007 at the Robert Packer Hospital.
He was born January 27, 1932 in Corning, NY the son of the late Harold H. and Esther L. Allison Sparling. A lifetime resident of Corning and graduate of Corning Free Academy (Class of 1949). He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force 1951-1955) during the Korean War.
Chucky and Joan C. Hughson were married March 7, 1953 in the First United Methodist Church Rectory, Corning, NY.
He was a Lamp Worker for Corning Inc. with 54 years active and inactive service.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Corning, past member of the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071 and past member of the Corning American Legion.
Chucky was a wonderful, honest, and loving, gentle husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will surely be missed by his family and numerous friends.

"Bob" A. Adams
Corning, NY
Robert Alonzo (Bob) Adams 83 years of 464 W. High St., Painted Post, NY died Saturday March 24, 2007 at Founders Pavilion.
He was born in Caton, NY June 8, 1923 the son of the late Alonzo Deyo and Mae Caroline Hurd Adams.
A graduate of Naples High School and a Veteran of the US Army Air Corp. during World War II (1943-46).
Bob and Elizabeth W. Widmer were married in Naples, June 4, 1946 and at that time relocated to the Corning/Painted Post area.
He was a carpenter retiring from the Corning/Painted Post School District.
Bob was a member of the Painted Post United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was an avid sportsman participating in Baseball and Basketball during High School and while serving in the Air Corp., and coached and umpired for Little League. Bob enjoyed the Outdoors and Hunting. During his retirement years he enjoyed working at the Willow Creek Golf Club.
He was a talented wood worker sharing his talents with others.
Surviving his wife; Elizabeth (Betty) of 60 years. Son; Robert (Bob) and Debbie Adams of Big Flats, NY. Daughter; Nancy A. (Kenneth) Hodge of Delmar, NY. Grandchildren; Mike (Sandra) Hodge, Scott (Katie) Hodge, Kim Adams and Doug Adams. Three Great Grandchildren; Sarah, Rachel and Ryan Hodge. Former daughter in law; Judy Adams of Elmira, NY. Also several nieces and nephews.
Bob was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather and will truly be missed by all.
Friends may call at the Painted Post United Methodist Church Saturday March 31, 2007 from 12 noon - 3pm. with a Memorial Service to follow at 3pm. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Caton, NY.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Bob’s name to the Painted Post United Methodist Church 210 N. Hamilton St., Painted Post, NY 14870.

Dorothy A. Huggler

Dorothy Huggler formerly of Monterey passed away Friday March 23, 2007 at the Arnot Ogden Nursing Facility, where she was under wonderful care for the past three years.
Married to Ronald Huggler who predeceased her August 31, 2001; they owned the Green Lantern in Corning before moving to Monterey.
Survivors, daughter; Darlene (Rev. Jerry) Disbro of Lebanon, Indiana. Sisters; Georgia Plewinski of Corning, NY and Grace Murphy of Bath, NY. Brothers; Bill (Clancy) Thrall of Long Island, Lawrence (Sue) Thrall of Florida and Gene Thrall of Corning, NY. Grandchildren; Jodi Wind and Dannyl Risk of Indianapolis and Ashley Jayne of Monterey. Great Grandchildren; Ellie and Brandon Wind, Juniper and Michael Risk of Indianapolis, Indiana. Many nieces, nephews, and friends. Dorothy was an avid knitter, crocheter and bingo player.
Calling hours will be from 11am - 1pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, NY 14830. The celebration of her life to follow. Committal Prayers and Interment will take place in the Monterey Cemetery after the service.

Joseph F. Costa
South Corning
A loving heart stopped beating, Joe entered into rest as a result of Parkinson Disease which he had for 23 years. He fought a very courageous battle with dignity and determination. Joe will be remembered for being a gentlemen.
He was born September 19, 1922 in Corning, NY to the late Manuel and Virginia Rodriguez Costa. A lifetime resident of Corning, receiving his education from the Corning school system.
Joseph and Wahneta Tennant were married July 19, 1947 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY.
He was a Veteran of WWII and very proud of his service record. After being wounded in the battle of the bulge he received many citations and the purple heart
He was employed in the transportation department of Corning Inc. retiring in 1984 and recently had received his 65 year service pin.
Joe was a member of All Saints Parish, attending the former St. Patrick’s Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Corning VFW John P. Eaton Post, Corning Loyal Order of the Moose and Corning Lodge of Elks # 1071.
Surviving; his wife of 59 years, Wahneta. Daugther; Nancy (Scott) Stanton of Marcellus, NY., and son Mark (Kathy) Costa of Corning, NY. Grandchildren; Lindsey Stanton, Ashley Costa and Cory Costa. Brother; Carl (Jean) Costa of Corning, NY. Special friends; Robert "Red" Morse and David Mammaux.
He was predeceased by brothers; Anthony, Manuel and Vincent Costa and sister; Mary Castellana.
To the staff of the Bath Veterans Hospital, the family wishes to extend their gratitude for the tender loving care given to Joe.
Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, NY Friday February 23, 2007 from 4-7pm. There will be a funeral service at the Haughey Funeral Home Saturday February 24, 2007 at 11:00am. Entombment will be held Monday at the Mausoleum, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Corning, NY.
