Mary Curreri "Mamie" Brownell, 89 years formerly of East First St., Corning, N.Y. more recently of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit, died Friday June 16, 2006.
She was born July 20, 1916 in Hornell, N.Y. the daughter of the late Michael and Rose Dispenza Curreri.
She was a lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Corning Free Academy.
Mary and Donald Brownell were married February 14, 1946 at St. Patricks, Corning, N.Y. Donald predeceased her in 1962.
Mary was employed in the housekeeping department of the Baron Steuben Hotel, Corning Hilton and retired from the Corning Radisson.
She was a member of All Saints Parish and had attended St. Patricks Church, Corning, more recently she was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Elmira, N.Y. , a member of Corning Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Joseph’s #139 with great interest in the "Layette Program", the Marconi Lodge and the Diabetic Support Group.
Mamie enjoyed cards, gardening, foods, reading and puzzles - just the simple things in life brought her much joy. She loved her faith and was a devoted Christian. She will truly be missed by her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many, many friends.
Surviving her daughter, Diana Brownell Cleary of Elmira, N.Y. Son, David Brownell of Corning, N.Y. and Son in law, Charles "Pudgie" Cleary of Elmira, N.Y., Sister, Concetta "Jetta" Curreri of Horseheads, N.Y. Grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Palinkas Wichtowski of Elmira, N.Y, Colleen Cleary and fiancee Timothy Campbell of Elmira, N.Y., Great Grandchildren, Andrew and Allyson Wichtowski and also several cousins and many close friends.
She was predeceased by Brother, Joseph Curreri.

Caroline B. O’Brian 99 years formerly of Watauga Avenue, more recently of Green Meadows died June 6, 2006 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
She was born November 26, 1906 in Corning, N.Y. the daughter of the late George and Bertha Lutz Schaller. A lifetime resident of Corning attending St. Patrick’s School and Corning Free Academy.
Caroline and Raymond P. O’Brian were married in St. Patrick’s Church in 1929. Raymond predeceased her in 1969.
She was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Patrick’s Church and was known to be its oldest member.
Caroline was totally dedicated to her loving family and home.
Surviving her daughters, Patricia M (H.J. Peter) Patrick of Ithaca, N.Y., Kathleen A Lee of North Palm Beach, Fl. And Jane R. (Robert G.) Colucci of Penfield, N.Y. Twelve Grandchildren and Three Step Grandchildren , Twenty Three Great Grandchildren and Two Great Great Grandchildren. Also several Nieces and Nephews.
She was predeceased by her Daughter and Son in Law; Joan and Joseph Mahoney. Two sisters and four brothers.

Robert Lee Graham 58 years of 416 Academy Place, died Friday June 2, 2006 at the Community General Hospital.
He was born in Corning, N.Y. September 3, 1947 the son of the late George H. and Alberta Gerber.
Robert was a loving person to family and friends. He enjoyed his Christian Faith and looked forward to the annual Bible Camp. He was an avid music enthusiast and over the years played many instruments. Robert enjoyed sports especially the Buffalo Bills Team and the Syracuse Orangemen.
Surviving his Twin Brother and Sister in law - Roger and Patti Graham of Corning, N.Y. and Niece, Kimberly Graham of Syracuse, N.Y. Aunt Doris Gerber of Oregon. Also several Cousins.

Aileen K. Kelly 85 years of 122 East Fourth St. died unexpectedly at her home Friday April 28, 2006.
She was born August 29, 1920 in Schuylerville, N.Y. the daughter of the late Maurice and Mary Carmen Kearney. She was a graduate of the Schuylerville School System and received her BA Degree from St. Rose College and her Masters Degree from the School of Business at Columbia University.
Aileen and John Moore Kelly were married September 6, 1947 at the Church of Visitation in Schuylerville, N.Y. John predeceased her August 3, 1999.
Aileen was a resident of Corning for over 50 years and had taught Business in the Corning/Painted Post School District at East High School for several years.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Women’s Golf League at Corning Country Club and a past member of Corning Hospital Chapter D.
Surviving her daughter; Maureen Kelly of Redondo Beach, CA. and Son; Kevin (Melody) Kelly of San Ramon, CA. Two Grandsons; Michael and Patrick Kelly.

Richard (Dick) H. Gethin
Horseheads, NY
Richard (Dick) H. Gethin 93 years, formerly of Roberts Avenue, South Corning, NY more recently of Bethany Court Yard, Horseheads, NY, died Sunday May 28, 2006 at Bethany Manor.
He was born February 3, 1913 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Leo and Bernice Kuen Gethin.
A lifetime resident of Corning where he had attended Corning Free Academy.
Dick and Hildur Marie Habelt were married December 31, 1940 in the Presbyterian Church in Painted Post, NY. Hildur predeceased him on June 22, 2001.
He was a retired employee of Erie-Lackawana Railroad and the Corning Building Company. He served as the Police Chief for the Village of South Corning and was also the Fire Commissioner for the Village until 2005. He was the Constable for the Town of Corning and a Special Deputy for the Steuben County Sheriffs Department. For many years he was a member of the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071.
Surviving his son, Richard F. (Barbara) Gethin of Apalachin, NY. grandchildren,Richard Peter (Valarie) Gethin of Newark, OH and Melissa Gethin (Michael) Panos of Bisbee, AZ, great grandchildren Hunter Gethin, Alexis Gethin and Paige Gethin all of Corning, NY and OmMani Skye Gethin Panos of Bisbee, AZ., Sister in law & brother in law, Doris and Lloyd Everett of Plano, TX. Also several nieces & nephews. Friends, Karen Gethin, Frank Lashure, Linda Riley, Staff of the Corning Radisson:Suzy, Su, Cindy & Deb, Bethany Court Yard, Dr. Rose Byland, Falk Center Staff and his nurse, Samuel Krohn and the Southern Tier Hospice Staff.
Dick was involved in politics and had a great interest in the Fire Department. He was always caring for others and his community
and was there to lend a helping hand. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Mary Agnes Hill
Mary Agnes Hill of 35 Pershing Street, died Friday May 26, 2006 at her home. She was born September 11, 1928 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Margaret Burns Keane.
A lifelong resident of Corning, she was a graduate of the local schools. She was employed at Corning Glass Works, working in the Service Products Division as a Credit Clerk, retiring in 1983. In 2005 she received her 60 year service pin from Corning Inc.
Mary Agnes and Paul F. Hill were married November 4, 1954 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY, Rev. Thomas F. Brennan officiating. Paul predeceased her on December 11, 2005.
Mary was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Resurrection Choir and the Rosary Society. She was a past member of the Corning Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Her survivors are, her sister, Eleanor Giambrone of Corning, NY. A very special nephew, Thomas (Ann) Giambrone of Elmira, NY, Nieces, Peggy (Jack) Simpson of Fayetteville, PA and Julie (Edward) Baer and a great niece,
Caroline Baer and great nephew, Peter Baer, all of Greenville, SC. A cousin, James E. Aker of Butler, PA.
At Mary’s request there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY, Tuesday May 30,2006 at 9:30am, followed by Committal Prayers and Interment at the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mary Watlock
Mary Watlock 88 years formerly of Argone Street, died Thursday May 25, 2006 at Founders Pavilion.
She was born February 24, 1918 in Plymouth, PA the daugther of the late Maxim and Maria Vinchuck Cipko. She received her education in the Pennsylvannia School System.
Mary and George L. Watlock were married February 2, 1941 in St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, Edwardsville, PA. He predeceased her in 1981.
She came to the Corning Area in 1941 and had resided here for 63 years.
Mary was employed with Corning Inc. working as an Inspector in the Apparatus Department in Big Flats, N.Y, retiring in 1989 with 43 years service with the company.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Corning, N.Y. and St. Mary’s Altar Society. Mary was loving and devoted to the children of the Parish and enjoyed sharing many gifts with them.
Surviving her nephew; Edward Murray of Colorado Springs, CO. Sister in law; Gerry Watlock of Scranton, PA. and several nieces.
She was predeceased by sister; Anna Murray and brother in law; John Watlock and dear friend Sonia Tostanoski.

Suzanne (Sue) Bonick Malnic 90 years formerly of Hibbard Rd., Horseheads, N.Y. passed away Saturday April 29, 2006 following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Corning, N.Y., May 30, 1915, the daughter of the late Mary and Charles Bonick.
Sue resided in Big Flats for approximately 50 ears and more recently lived with her daughter, Mary Teresa of Columbia, S.C., for the past four years.
She retired from Corning Glass Works in June of 1984, with 40 plus years of service.
Surviving her two sons and their wives and children; John Malnic of Carmi, Ill. and Thomas L. of Newburg, N.Y. Two daughters; Mary Teresa Malnic of Columbia, S.C. and Shirley A. (Malnic) Scates and husband, of Arlington, VA. Sister; Anna Chudanic and family and Brother in law; William Griffin and family both of Corning, N.Y. Two granddaughters; and Two grandsons, Seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, also several relatives and friends throughout the east coast.

Anne C. Sutherland 88 years formerly of Pearl Street, Corning and most recently she had resided with her daughter and son-in-law Penny Sutherland and Robert Strong in Ohio.
She was born July 23, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y. the daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Alexandra Szymkiewicz. A lifetime resident of the area, graduating from the Bradford School System.
Anne and James S. Sutherland were married September 4, 1937 at St. Stanislaus Church in Bradford, N.Y. James predeceased her September 14, 1982 after 45 years together.
She was employed as a inspector for Corning Glass Works and had received her 50 year service pin in 1997.
Surviving her daughters; Sylvia Webster of Martinsville, VA. and Penny Sutherland of Akron, OH. Sister; Stella Vegard of Elmira, N.Y. Grandchildren; Tracy Webster, Darby Webster, Eric Sutherland, Shelly Mitchell, Nicole Webster, Sherry Andrews and Jamie Deneka. Twelve great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son; Byron J. Sutherland and daughter; April A. Sutherland.
Sisters; Lottie Kopczynski and Helen Burris and Brother; Edward Szymkiewicz.
Anne had resided in Corning, N.Y. for 69 years and was a member of All Saints Parish where she had attended St. Patrick’s Church; The Busy Bees, Corning Women of the Moose, Hospital Chapter H.
She had rented her home to college students for 20 years. She was always happiest surrounded by everyone she loved, planning and preparing parties for all occasions. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

Patricia Pechenak

Patricia A. Pechenak 79 years, died Monday April 30, 2006 at the Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center.
She was born December 27, 1926 in Corning, N.Y. the daughter of the late James A. and Mary C. Stenger Mitchell.
She was a graduate of Corning Free Academy.
Patricia and George Pechenak were married in Corning, N.Y. in 1949. He predeceased her in June 1972. She had resided in the Corning Area for 47 years relocating to the California area to be near family.
She was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother. Patricia will truly be missed by her family and many friends. She was a past member of All Saints Parish and had attended St. Patrick’s Church.
After moving to California she became an active member of the Presentation of Our Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Carmichael, CA. and enjoyed all her hobbies; sewing, arts and crafts, bingo, cooking classes, walking, member of the Walnut House Band and also Bible Study.
Surviving her daughters; Barbara (Duane) Montopoli of North Andover, MA. and Linda C. Witzel of Fair Oaks, CA., Sister; Margaret (Robert) Lewis of Mesa, AR. Grandson; Brian M. Montopoli of New York City, N.Y. Granddaughters; Lorraine (Matthew) Montopoli-Caiazzo of Peabody, MA. Also several nieces and nephews in the Greater Corning Area.
She was predeceased by her brothers; T.J. Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell and three sisters; Marie Miller, Joan Capel and Helen Estoesta.

"Kay" Mary Kathleen Abel
(Kay) Mary Kathleen Abel 84 years formerly of 22 Manning Drive, Painted Post, N.Y. died Monday August 1, 2006 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
She was born March 21, 1922 in Elmira, N.Y., the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Jones DeLaney. She was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and Elmira Business Institute.
Kay and John F. Abel were married May 4, 1946 at Lady of Lourdes Church in Elmira, N.Y. He predeceased her December 4, 1989.
A lifetime resident of the Elmira/Corning Area and a member of All Saints Parish in Corning, attending St. Mary’s Church and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. More recently she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Campbell, N.Y.
Surviving her Sons; J. Laurence (Larry) and Nancy Abel of Hammondsport, N.Y., and Bill and Norma Abel of Hamburg, N.Y. Daughters; Mary K. Guzylak of Elmira, N.Y., Patricia and Fran Dotts of Pine City, N.Y. and Maureen Abel of Elmira, N.Y. Grandchildren; Karen (Jeff Chalk, Ryan (Kim) Abel, Lisa (Matt) Carozza, Lorie (Doug) Georgi, Kevin Guzylak, Kelley Guzylak, Chris (Jen) Guzylak, Patrick Dotts, Michael (Jamie) Dotts. Marguerite (Aunt Rete) Thurston Shay 88 years of 467 Crooker Hill Rd., Pine City, NY died Thursday April 20, 2006 at the Robert Packer Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1917 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Francis L. And Cora LeBarron Thurston. A graduate of Jersey Shore High School (class of 1935) Jersey Shore, PA, relocating to the Corning area in 1952 and resided there until she moved to the Caton area in 1973.
Marguerite and Elwyn C. "Pat" Shay were married December 30, 1954 in the First Baptist Church in Corning, NY, Rev. Crippen officiated. Pat predeceased her December 21, 1997.
She had been employed with Rockwell’s Department Store and the Corning City School District. She was a member of the Caton United Methodist Church and was a Past Matron of Crystal City Chapter #351 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a very active life member.
Marguerite was completely devoted to her extended family, sharing her love, concerns, her talents of knitting and crocheting and her undevoted support and praises for all their accomplishments. She will truly be missed by her family and many friends. She enjoyed music, playing the organ and giving lessons to others. Her love for nature and wildlife drew her enjoyment of camping throughout New York State and Florida. She also shared her love with her pets.
Surviving; her sister: Mrs. Marion (Hobart) McCracken of Williamsport, PA, Step sons; Carl, James and Thomas Shay of Sayre, PA and Gerald Shay of Green Bay, WI, Stepgrandchildren and numerous stepgreat grandchildren. Sister in law; Evelyn Thurston of Corning, NY. Nieces; Carol Thurston Webster of Potsdam, NY and Susan Thurston Icobelli of Chester,NY. Nephews; Thomas Thurston and Francis Thurston both of Corning, NY., Jon McCracken of Muncy, PA and Mickey McCracken of Poin Ciana, Fl. Several grand nieces and grand nephews.
There will be a Eastern Star Memorial Service Monday April 24, 2006 at 10:30am at the Caton United Methodist Church in Caton, NY. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am, Chaplin Kit Tobin officiating.

Robert J. “Robbie” Howard 51 years of 5219 Hornby, Rd., Beaver Dams, NY died unexpectedly Friday April 14, 2006 following a motor vehicle accident.
He was born November 22, 1954 in Corning, NY, the son of the late C.R. and Helen Danaher Howard. A lifetime resident of the area and graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Corning/Painted Post East High School.
Robbie and Andrea Phillips were married in Painted Post, NY.
He was employed with Corning Inc., as shipping engineer, in the shipping department of the Fallbrook plant.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, attending in the past St. Patrick’s Church. Robbie was a loving husband, father, step father and a great brother. He enjoyed sports, among them, horseshoes, baseball and golf. He also was a talented drummer. He truly will be missed by his family and many, many friends.
Surviving his wife, Andrea. Sons, Tyler and Brody Howard at home. Step sons, Grant Baker of Buffalo, NY and James Baker of Covington, PA, Step Daughter, Lynne Baker at home. Brothers, Raymond (Roberta) Howard, Kenneth (Laura) Howard all of Corning, NY, Thomas (Linda) Howard of Caton, NY and Richard (Chris Green) Howard of Gang Mills, NY. Also several nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends are invited to call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St, Corning, NY Tuesday April 18, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday April 19, 2006 at 11:00am followed by Committal Prayers and Interment at Goodsell Cemetery, Hornby, NY.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Robbie’s name to: Corning Meals on Wheels, Inc., 144 Cedar St., Corning, N.Y. 14830 or Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning, NY 14830.

Michael Sandwick

Michael Charles Sandwick 60 years of 292 ½ Bridge St., Ext., died Monday April 10, 2006 at his home.
He was born January 4, 1946 in Waynesburg, PA, the son of the late Ralph Vern Sandwick and Frances White Stillwell. He was a graduate of Waynesburg, PA High School and Corning Community College, receiving his distinguished student award. Michael was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Viet Nam Era (1963-66).
He relocated from Pennsylvania area to Corning in 1982. Michael served as a Disabilities Advocate and Counselor. He was a member of the United States Disability Veterans Association.
He was a loving father and grandfather, a self sacrificing person, one to always be available to others.
Surviving, Six Sons, Michael Scott Sandwick of West Virginia, Jason, Joel and Jonathon Sandwick of Florida, Shane Sandwick of Wellsville, NY and Joshua Sandwick of Corning, NY. Three Daughters, Jasmine Sandwick of Corning, NY, Tracie and Aleshia Sandwick of Florida. Granddaughter, Kylie Klarie Sandwick. Beloved Friend, Eileen McGready. Brother, Jeff (Becky) Stillwell of Waynesburg, PA. Also his canine friend Lawless.
Family and Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St, Corning, NY Wednesday April 19, 2006 from 4-6pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 6:00pm.

Joseph N. O'Shanick
Joseph N. O’Shanick 79 years formerly of Davis St., more recently of Founders Pavilion died Wednesday April 5, 2006.
He was born in Corning, N.Y. June 15, 1929 the son of the late Frank and Helen Kuzma O’Shanick. A lifetime resident of Corning and a graduate of Corning Free Academy (Class of 1944). He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp., serving during WWII with the infantry at Iwo-Jima. During the service he had received several medals, including the distinguished service award and the Purple Heart.
He was a retired lieutenant of the Corning Fire Department retiring in 1981 with 33 active year’s service.
Joe was a life member of the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071 and volunteered for many of their projects. Joe was also a lifetime member of the Corning VFW.
He loved his wife and family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the game of golf.
Surviving; his wife of 56 years Lucille. Son; Kerry (Debra) O’Shanick of Arnold, MD. Daughter; Shelly (Daniel) Madden of Corning, N.Y. Grandchildren; Lindsay O’Shanick, Amanda, Meghan and Daniel Madden. Also several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y. Saturday April 8, 2006 from 10-12 am, with the Corning Fire Department Honor Guard. A Corning Lodge of Elks, Lodge of Sorrow service will be held at 11:45am. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon Pastor Richard Lambdin officiating. Committal Prayers, Full Military Rites provided by the Corning VFW Ritual Team and Interment will be held at Coopers Plains Cemetery, Coopers Plains, N.Y.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Joe’s name to: Founders Pavilion 205 E. First St., Corning, NY 14830 or Southern Tier Hospice 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, N.Y. 14830.
