Alfred Cole
January 18, 2000
Alfred J. Cole, 89, formerly of First Avenue, Carmen, died Tuesday at Hallmark Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was born in Amsterdam and graduated from Amsterdam High School. He lived much of his life in Schenectady.
He was employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 41 years, retiring in 1975.
Mr. Cole was director and past president of the General Electric Athletic Association, and was past vice president and a member of the board of directors of the Edison Golf Club. He was also on the board of directions of the Schenectady YMCA. He was a member of the Annie Schaffer and Rotterdam Senior Citizens Centers.
He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church and was a member of its Parish Council and its Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Agnes Covey Cole; a daughter, Norinne Cole of Rochester; a sister, AnnaMarie Sobero of Amsterdam; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Friday at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church.
Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady 12303; or to Annie Schaffer Senior Citizens Center, 101 Nott Terrace, Schenectady 12308.

Carmela Carbone
January 18, 2000
Carmela R. Carbone, 83, of Henrietta Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.
She was born in Ruviano, Province of Caserta, Italy, Feb. 17, 1916, a daughter of Leone and Filomena Puerto Izzo. She was educated there and came to Amsterdam in 1961.
Mrs. Carbone was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and a member of the St. Anthony Society.
She married Philip Carbone in 1937. He died in 1978.
Survivors include a son, John L. Carbone of Amsterdam; three daughters, Rose DiSandro, Angelina DeMatteo and Philomena Iorio, all of Amsterdam; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 8:15 a.m. Friday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker officiating.
Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Memorial Fund.

Dorothy Smith
January 14, 2000
Dorothy S. Smith, 94, of Dunedin, Fla., died Friday at Mease Hospital there after a short illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1906, in Fort Plain, the daughter of Edward and Ida Kinaman Schrell. She graduated from Fort Plain High School. She moved to Clearwater, Fla., in October 1977 and later to Mease Manor in Dunedin, Fla.
Mrs. Smith was secretary to George Duffy at Duffy Silk Mill and at Beech-Nut Life Savers in the credit department. She retired in 1977.
She married Chester Smith April 19, 1958. He died March 2, 1963.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was superintendent of the Sunday school for several years.
She was also a member of Otsquago Chapter 297 Order of the Eastern Start.
Survivors include two sisters, Marie Bowman of Nelliston and Evelyn Hardesty of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Robert Schrell of San Diego, Calif.; two step-sons, Wendell Smith of Canajoharie and Calvin Smith of Surfside, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 1 p.m. today at Mease Manor.
Mrs. Smith will be cremated. Burial will be in the spring in Fort Plain Cemetery.

William Wyszomirski
January 20, 2000
William F. Wyszomirski, 87, of Church Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born April 22, 1912, in Amsterdam, the son of Stanley and Magdeline Przybycien Wyszomirski. He attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a weaver by Mohasco Mills in Amsterdam. He later worked for ALCO Locomotive in Schenectady and then for Knolls Atomic Power in Milton, retiring in March 1976.
He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Church and its Sacred Heart Society.
He married Helen Gurtowski Sept. 14, 1935.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, William J. Wyszomirski of Rochester; two daughters, Vivian H. Rice of Nassau and Diane J. Hoppe of McLean, Va.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Leon Stanton
January 13, 2000
Leon R. Stanton, 68, of Puyallup, Wash., formerly of Delanson and Rotterdam, died Jan. 13 after being stricken at home.
He was born in Amsterdam and was a graduate of Delanson High School.
Mr. Stanton worked at Bellevue Dairy in Schenectady. He moved to Washington 22 years ago, and worked for Valley Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Stanton; a son, Raymond Stanton of Rotterdam; a sister, Lynne Cummings of Chesterville, Ontario; his mother, Geraldine Ross Stanton of Puyallup, Wash.; four stepchildren; and several grandchildren.
A spring graveside service will be in Grove Cemetery, Quaker Street, Delanson.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany 12205.
Arrangements are by White-Van Buren Funeral Home.

Ruth Buyce
January 20, 2000
Ruth E. Buyce, 93, formerly of Phelps Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility where she was a patient since 1995.
She was born in Mayfield and was educated in its country schools.
She was a glove cutter for the former Crosley, Hollenbeck and Wilkins glove companies, retiring many years ago.
She married Cornelius Buyce in 1923. He died in 1962.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Buyce of Mayfield; and four grandchildren.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville.
Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Humane Society, Box 688, Gloversville 12078.

Sara DeMagistris
January 19, 2000
Sara Maceyka DeMagistris, 79, formerly of North Perry Street, Johns-town, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
She was born Dec. 5, 1920, in Johnstown, the daughter of Henry and Sarafina Burda Maceyka. She was educated in Johnstown.
Mrs. DeMagistris was a homemaker and also helped her husband in the operation of DiMis Liquor Store in Johnstown.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Court Pinta Chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Her husband, John A. DeMagistris, died in 1998.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Mabin, Christine Nunn and Marybeth DeMagistris, all of Johnstown; three sons, Jack DeMagistris of Gloversville, Edward DeMagistris of Johnstown and James DeMagistris of Carson City, Nev.; two sisters, Marie Kropay and Elizabeth Vacek, both of Johnstown; a brother, John Mace of Scotia; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the memorial fund at St. Patrick's Church.

Stephen Kralovic
January 20, 2000
Stephen E. Kralovic, 78, of Briggs Street, Johnstown, died Thursday at the Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a long illness.
He was born in Johnstown and was a graduate of Johnstown schools.
He served in the Army during World War II in Africa, Italy and Sicily. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Kralovic was a leather worker for Karg Bros. Tannery and a construction worker for Schenectady Paving Co., retiring in 1981.
He was a former member of the Johnstown Moose, Knights of Columbus Council 239, the Johnstown National American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans of Johnstown.
Mr. Kralovic was a member of St. Anthony's Church.
He married Mary Ann Valachovic Aug. 30, 1947.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Stephanie Kleist of Johnstown and Michele Rauch of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Church.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in the spring.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown.

Shane Borchert

Shane Borchert
Shane C. Borchert, 19, of Marshville Road, Fort Plain, died early Sunday morning from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Clinton Road in the town of Canajoharie.
He was born Aug. 29, 1980, the son of Timothy and Cynthia Pitcher Borchert. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Canajoharie schools.
He worked on the Borcherts farm, a fourth generation family farm, for most of his life. For the past six months he worked for White Mountain Cable Construction Corp. running fiber optic cable throughout the northeast.
He was a wrestler in high school and was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Sarah Louise Borchert of Fort Plain; paternal grandparents, Ward and Joyce Borchert of Fort Plain; maternal grandparents, Sally and Russell Mead of Fort Plain and Paul and Rebecca Pitcher of Sprakers; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Freysbush United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Baumback officiating.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Minden Volunteer Fire Department, 1029 State Route 163, Fort Plain 13339; or the Freysbush United Methodist Church.

David Garvey
January 21, 2000
David J. Garvey, 77, of 2115 E. Main St., Penn Yan, Yates County, formerly of Schenectady, died Friday at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.
He was born in Schenectady. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Ithaca College, received certification as an athletic director from the State University of New York at Cortland and pursued doctoral studies at Syracuse University.
He began his teaching career in Little Falls. In 1950, he began his career at Penn Yan Academy as a recreation director, and later became a teacher. During the 1960s he was vice principal, retiring in 1982.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member and past commander of the Johnson-Coatello American Legion Post 355.
He was a 40-year member of Lakeside Country Club, and was past chairman of the Yates County chapter of the American Red Cross.
He was a member of St. Michael's Church.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Doris Fullagar Garvey; two sons, Charles M. and David C. Garvey, both of Penn Yan; two daughters, Patrice Edgerton of Naples and Michele Wheeler of Penn Yan; a sister, Marguerite Ackley of Johnstown; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled this morning at St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan, with burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan.
