Edward Van Aernam
January 21, 2000
Edward R. Van Aernam, 55, of Ghent, Columbia County, died Friday in the town of Kinderhook from injuries received in an automobile accident that evening.
He was born Nov. 16, 1944, in Johnstown, the son of Earl and Gladys Getman Van Aernam Sr. He attended local schools.
Mr. Van Aernam was employed by Kling Magnetics of Chatham.
Survivors include three sons, Jason Whittman of Kansas, and Aaron and Eric Whittman of Luftin, Texas; three sisters, Florence Warner and Dorothy Shaw, both of Johnstown, and Jessie Dence of Gloversville; three brothers, Earl Van Aernam of Randall, Robert Van Aernam of North Bush, and Robert Smith of Texas; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Henry Vedder, elder of Christian Life Center, Hudson, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Calling hours will begin at noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Rose Tucciarone
January 23, 2000
Rose Russo Tucciarone, 79, of Saratoga Road, Glenville, died Sunday evening at St. Claire's Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Schenectady Oct. 27, 1920, the daughter of Juillo and Agnes Diorio Russo. She was educated in Schenectady.
Mrs. Tucciarone was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Schenectady.
She married Anthony F. Tucciarone Oct. 22, 1939. He died Dec. 19, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara David of Schenectady; a son, Anthony P. Tucciarone of Tribes Hill; a sister, Margaret Lucarelli of Guilderland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the N. Rossi & Sons Funeral Home, Union and North Jay streets, Schenectady, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Seward Place.
Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Church Memorial Fund, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady 12305.

Louis Aldi
January 27, 2000
Louis A. Aldi, 80, of Evelyn Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born April 7, 1919, in Gloversville, the son of Michael and Angela Mazzaro Aldi. He was educated in Gloversville and Schenectady.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Western Pacific with Company G 27th Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters.
For 20 years, Mr. Aldi was employed in the maintenance department of the New York State Air National Guard in Scotia, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Amvets Post 21 of Amsterdam and the Polish American Veterans. He was also a member of the 109th Alumni Association.
Mr. Aldi was a coach for many years for the Amsterdam Wee Men Majors. An avid bowler, he was a member of several area leagues.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He married Florence McCoski May 5, 1946.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Louis M. Aldi and Joseph R. Aldi, both of Amsterdam, and Gary R. Aldi of New Hartford; a brother, Andrew Aldi of Schenectady; a sister, Antoinette Andolina of Amsterdam; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 8:15 a.m. Monday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church with the Rev. Edward Sipperly officiating.
Interment is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.

John Rocco
January 27, 2000
John C. Rocco, 86, of Christman Place, Amsterdam, died Thursday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Richfield, Conn., the son of Rosario and Rosina Rocco. He was educated and raised in New York City.
Mr. Rocco assisted his father in the family's grocery business in New York and Old Westbury. He later worked for the former Grumman Aerospace before retiring in 1978.
He moved to Amsterdam 20 years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's of Alcantara Roman Catholic Church in Port Washington.
He married Carmella Trinchitella July 2, 1949.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, John Rocco of Schenectady and Russell and Richard Rocco, both of Lake City, Fla.; a daughter, Joanne Sollecito of Amsterdam; a brother, Dominick Rocco of Westbury; two sisters, Angela Frivold and Jean Feruzzi, both of Westbury; eight grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Hagaman, with the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz celebrant.
Spring interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Church.
Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

William Snell
January 27, 2000
William H. Snell, 65, of Gloversville, died Thursday at home following a long illness.
He was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Gloversville, the son of William H. and Elsie Kniskern Snell Sr.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gloversville.
He was employed in the grounds and maintenance department of the Gloversville School District until his retirement in 1987.
He married Caroline Grant Aug. 10, 1957.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Robin Wentworth and Sandy Campani, both of Gloversville; two sons, William and Randy Snell, both of Gloversville; a brother, Raymond Snell of Bleecker; three sisters, Barbara Froman and Carol Gill, both of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Donna Snell of Gloversville; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 3 p.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 12 James St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Peter Ellis officiating.
Spring burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Children's Camp Fund, 12 James St., Gloversville 12078.
Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.

Valerie Prager
January 26, 2000
Valerie Prager, 97, of Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born and educated in Vienna, Austria, and moved to Gloversville in 1939, where she lived the rest of her life.
Mrs. Prager worked for several years with her husband in his business, the Ernest Prager Leather Co.
She was a member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary and Knesseth Israel Synagogue.
Her husband, Ernest Prager, died in 1955. She was also predeceased by a son, Charles Prager, last year.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Sharon Prager Mulling of San Antonio, Texas, Renee Prager Popkey of New Port Richey, Fla., and Diane Cocos of Milwaukee; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Sunday at Knesseth Israel Synagogue.
Burial will be in Knesseth Israel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 Fulton St., Gloversville.
Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home.

Rudolph Stander
January 26, 2000
Rudolph D. Stander, 73, of 27 Park St., Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
He was born April 21, 1926, in Buffalo, the son of Rudolph and Nettie Rhodes Stander.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the European Theater of Operations, and received the Victory Medal.
Because his education was interrupted by the war, he returned to school and was a 1947 graduate of Gloversville High School. He also took interior design and decorating courses in Philadelphia.
He worked for 14 years as a bank clerk in Manhattan, and later was a data processing clerk with the state Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany for 21 years. He retired in 1988.
Survivors include a cousin.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Getman Memorial Home, 15 E. State St., Gloversville 12078.

Sophie Surento
January 28, 2000
Sophie Greco Surento, 89, of Wilkes Avenue, Amsterdam, died early this morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Arrangements by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.

Henry Przestrzelski
January 27, 2000
Henry Przestrzelski, 65, of Indian Road, Fort Plain, died Thursday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Arrangements by the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, are incomplete and will be announced.

Anthony Nagiones
January 29, 2000
Anthony J. Nagiones, 87, of Summit Avenue, Amsterdam, died Saturday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was born May 15, 1912, in Amsterdam, the son of Anthony and Mary Borkowska Nagiones. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Nagiones was the owner of the former Burlington Cigar Shop until retiring in 1970.
During World War II, he served as a private in the U.S. Army.
He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the former American Lithuanian Club.
He married Frances Kosinski July 27, 1940.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Linda Risch of Amsterdam; a sister, Ida Siarkowski of Amsterdam; three granddaughters; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed at 11:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir's Church.
Interment will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Casimir's Church or to a scholarship fund in his name for Amsterdam High School graduates.
