Joseph Davi
January 31, 2000
Joseph J. Davi, 88, of Berthoud Street, Nelliston, died early Monday morning at home after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Sicily, the son of Salvatore and Elizabeth Rappa Davi. He was educated in a country school in Flat Creek. He came to this country as a child and lived in this area most of his life.
Mr. Davi was employed at the former Arkell and Smith sack factory in Canajoharie for 17 years and then worked for the village of Nelliston as superintendent of public works, retiring in 1974. At one time, he served as chief of police for the village of Nelliston.
During World War II, Mr. Davi served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain. He was a former member of Crystal Lake Snowmobile Club.
He married Agnes Barretta Nov. 3, 1933, in Fort Plain.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Salvatore V. "Sonny" Davi of St. Johnsville; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Williams of Canajoharie; three sisters, Nancy Davi of Ocala, Fla., Mary Zuccarrello of Ocean Township, N.J., and Ann Darrow of Sprakers; a brother, Anthony Davi of Canajoharie; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A prayer service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
There will be full military honors at graveside by the Fort Plain VFW Post 3275 Memorial Squad in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service Inc., P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie 13317; or Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville 12078.

William Redding
January 30, 2000
William H. Redding, 78, of Evelyn Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Montgomery Meadows where he had been a patient for the past two years.
He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Suffern, the son of George and Kathleen Ford Redding. He moved to Gloversville as a young man and lived in Amsterdam since 1974.
Mr. Redding was the former owner and operator of Mohawk Taxi until his retirement.
He was of the Catholic faith.
His married Helen C. Fruchie Dec. 11, 1951.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Joseph Redding and Vincent Redding, both of Saratoga, William Redding of Boulder, Colo., and Thomas Redding of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Matilda Lobell of Saratoga; two grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
A calling hour will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ida Massari
February 1, 2000
Ida T. Massari, 80, of 6769 State Route 5S, Fort Plain, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica.
She was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Schenectady, the daughter of Ralph and Rosena DiGiorgio. She was educated in Schenectady and lived in the Fort Plain area since 1941.
She was employed for 20 years at the former Nelson's Laundry in Fort Plain, retiring in 1978..
She was a member of St. James Church of Fort Plain and also its Altar Rosary Society.
She married Chester A. Massari Sr. Aug. 5, 1939.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Chester A. Massari Jr. of Rochester and David J. Massari of Philadelphia; five brothers, James DiGiorgio, Anthony DiGiorgio, John DiGiorgio, Louis DiGiorgio and Ralph DiGiorgio, all of Schenectady; two sisters, Mary Ranze and Deloris Fazio, both of Schenectady; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church in Fort Plain with the Rev. Kenneth Swain.
Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Church.

Irene Hatch
January 31, 2000
Irene M. Hatch, 88, of Palatine Bridge, died Monday at the Robinson Terrace Health Facility in Stanford after a brief illness.
She was born April 2, 1911, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Ferenc and Veron Pinter Matauz.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, and Sharon Hospital, Sharon, Conn.
She was a member of the Pine Plains Methodist Church, Pine Plains, and the Pine Plains Garden Club.
She married George E. Hatch Sr. July 14, 1933.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, George E. Hatch Jr. of Palatine Bridge; a daughter, Elaine McCaffrey of Chicago; a brother, Frank Matthews of Milo, Maine; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be private.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Regina Golab
February 1, 2000
Regina J. Golab, 79, of Wallins Corners Road, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at home after a long illness.
She was born in Amsterdam Sept. 10, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and Rosalia Galusinska Majewski. She was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1939.
She was a governess on Long Island until returning to Amsterdam in 1944.
She later worked in the planning department of the General Electric Co., Schenectady, until 1955, and later became a homemaker.
Mrs. Golab was a 40-year member of the Ladies Independent Bowling League, and a member of the GE Athletic Association and the Sacandaga Boat Club.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
She married Adam J. Golab Oct. 7, 1950.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, James J. Golab of Amsterdam; and two daughters, Lisbeth Golab and Carole A. Martin, both of Amsterdam.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam.

Rose Pezzente
February 1, 2000
Rose M. Pezzente, 88, of Hover Avenue, Amsterdam, died Tuesday morning at home after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 19, 1911, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Carl and Angelina Mucci Sampone. She was educated in Amsterdam and was a graduate of the Reynolds Business School. She was a lifelong city resident.
Mrs. Pezzente was a machine operator for many years with Breton Industries, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, the Christian Women's Society of the church, the Mount Carmel and 5th Ward Senior Citizens, the former Catholic Daughters of America 1735, the Columbiettes of Council 209 Knights of Columbus, and the bingo workers of Mount Carmel Church.
She married Thomas Pezzente in 1928. He died in 1939.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Galeazza of Amsterdam and Caroline Lynch of Perth; two nephews; one niece; and one cousin.
The funeral is 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The Christian Women's Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will meet at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam.

Irene Veeder
January 31, 2000
Irene Veeder, 81, of Mohawk Street, Fultonville, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a brief illness.
Arrangements by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, are incomplete and will be announced.

Warren Knuth
January 31, 2000
Warren C. Knuth Sr., 74, of Maple Avenue, Ballston Spa, died Monday at Wesley Health Care Center.
He was born in Charlton and was a lifelong area resident.
He worked for Cumberland Farms in East Greenbush, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
His wife, Margaret Knuth, died in 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Knuth of Saratoga Springs and Darlene Hayden of Middle Grove; three sons, Carl and Warren C. Knuth Jr., both of Ballston Spa, and Donald Harwood of St. Johnsville; a brother, Lewis Knuth of Ballston Spa; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, West High Street, Ballston Spa.
Spring burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 25 Hyde Blvd, Ballston Spa.
Contributions may be made to the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Thompson Street, Ballston Spa 12020.

William Collins
January 31, 2000
William J. Collins, 82, of Kingsboro Towers, Gloversville, died Tuesday after being stricken.
He was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Fonda, the son of William and Lillian Vollmer Collins. He was educated in Fonda.
He worked for Glen Mohawk Dairy of Fultonville as a dock foreman for 20 years and then as a lock tender for the New York State Barge Canal, retiring in 1989.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Navy Sea Bees.
He was a member and past commander of the Fonda VFW. He was a member of Fonda Snell Hose Co. of the volunteer fire department, the Johnstown Moose Lodge, and a charter member of the Navy Sea Bees of America.
Survivors include a brother, Henry Volmer of Painnals Park, Fla.; three half-brothers, Robert Collins of Missouri, Charles Collins of Florida, and James Collins of Fultonville; a half-sister, Betty Zeno of Amsterdam; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Barter and Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of Johnstown Reformed Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Calling hours will begin at 9:30 Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Humane Society or a charity of one's choice.

Kenneth Miller
January 28, 2000
Kenneth E. Miller, 67, of Plains Road, Ballston Spa, formerly of Johnstown and Stillwater, died Friday at Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital in Albany after a short illness.
He was born in Passaic, N.J.
He worked at Fort Orange Press and Hamilton Press, both in Albany, and Amsterdam Printing Co. as a bookbinder.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a staff sergeant and served as a tank leader with the 1st Marine Division.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Finn of Marlboro, Mass., and Debra Frieburger of Ballston Spa; a son, Kenneth E. Miller Jr. of Mechanic-ville; a sister, Dorothy Miller of New Jersey; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service with full military honors is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at 1 p.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the 1st Marine Division Association in Mayfield.
Arrangements are by Devito-Salvadore Funeral Home, Mechanicville.
